Goat Thali
Tahir N.

We met friends here for lunch on a Sunday. A nice open space with the TV playing in silence. I had seen mention of the goat thali in another review so I ordered that while my wife ordered the vegetarian thali. As it turned out, our friends also ordered the goat thali. The thali does not come with bread, so my wife ordered roti, and my friends ordered garlic naan. Since the thali comes with plain rice, I stuck with that. My thali came with goat, curry, yogurt, tomato, chutney, potato, crisps, yellow dal, salad, shukto and white rice (not basmati but ok). I liked the flavor of the goat curry and the meat was tender, and had absorb the flavor and happily there were only a few small bones in my serving. I had a masala chai as it was cool outside, and that came to the table, piping, hot, unsweetened, and to my taste, which is to appreciate it being a little bitter, but not too bitter They have QR codes to order off the menu at the table, so I think the server was expecting us to do that at first but eventually they came to the table and we placed our order. They took our orders, brought us our food and then basically left us alone to enjoy our conversation. That's fine by me.

Chicken burger with fries

Interesting to see Bengali restaurant in Bay area, good to have different options for Indian cuisine. Have visited once a year back and the space is quite big and the location is pretty good, since its in downtown San Jose. Inside, it was clean and decorated tastefully. We were a large group and I remember the service was slow, but maybe it was an off day for them. I have Door-dashed multiple times recently and tried different things. One dish that stood out for me is the chicken curry (kosha), its definitely my favorite. Apart from this the other things I have tried are: Chicken burger (didn't enjoy this, the dish seemed stale to me, even the side of fries tasted off), paneer chilly (first of all, the quantity was too less and the paneer was hard), mango rasmalai (didn't enjoy this either, tasted very artificial, I couldn't eat more than a bite).

PEAS KOCHURI (2 PC) + ALOO SABJI

DoorDashed the mustard fish last afternoon and it slappeddddddd. As good as being back in our mother's house in Kolkata albeit a bit oilier than what one would use to cook at home. However 10/10 taste. Also ordered the Peas Kochuri, aloo combo. Really delish aloo but Kochuri filling could be more generous and tastier. Did not taste the green peas much.

Mutton Cutlet

Nice Indian (Bengali) food. Rare to find this cuisine in the Bay area. The Mutton & chicken cutlets were very well done. Found the fillings in the Peas kachuri to be a bit lacking & the alu sabzi watery, tasted ok. The kosha mangsho was pretty tasty, again would prefer a bit thicker gravy, did go well with the luchis(pooris). Sorshe(Mustard) fish curry was well done, good with plain rice. Disappointed with the Biryani - did have the mandatory egg & potato, but found it dry with sparse mutton(felt like chewy lamb) pieces. Overall a mixed experience, but I would give it a try again to try some local fares - phuchka(pani poori), kathi rolls, indo-chinese chowmein & lollipops. Place is very neat & nice, service a bit slow.

Peas Kochuri (2PCS) Aloo Sabji

Saw this in my recommendations and the menu looked very interesting. So had to try. 1. Double Egg Chicken Kathi Roll: The chicken was juicy and very flavorful. 2. Peas Kochuri and Aloo Sabji This is the first time I had peas kochuri and frankly, I could eat it even without the sabji However, the sabji definitely complemented it really well. It was probably the best aloo sabji I have had in the bay so far. 3. Masala Fries These were nice and crunchy and also spicy. 4. Chicken Chowmein Since Kolkata is the birthplace of indo-chinese, I had high expectations, and the noodles didnt disappoint. Very flavorful, unlike a few places where the chicken pieces are bland themselves. Will definitely order more.

As a bengali foodie, I approve of the taste of the food as long as we classify as Bengali-Fusion. Taste is all great but if we take an "authentic bengali" judgment hat, Mishti pulao should be of "Gobindobhog" rice and the Ghugni should have goat keema. Mishti doi and Nolen Gurer sondesh are the Chef's own creations. All good and understandable fusion modifications.

Gobi Manchurian = YUM!

I cannot rate the atmosphere since we got the food 'to go' but before it changed owners they did not allow inside dining so now that it does I'll keep the star review consistent. We ordered food for lunch and it was super easy to order online through their website, it was ready in a short window of time, and the food was delicious. I'm sure the gobi Manchurian would be even better at the restaurant but it had great flavor and the sauce was nice and spicy. The rice was plain but fresh. The spicy chili/sesame naan was soooo good! It says it's spicy on the menu but I think it's difficult to control the spice level of the fresh peppers. It wasn't a spicy as the gobi but the flavor was smokey and nothing like I've ever had on naan. The garlic naan was also fabulous! I look forward to visiting the restaurant to try even more.

Sorse RUI ( Musturd Fish)

Pretty authentic Bengali food. I intentionally stayed away from the usual chicken tikka masala fare (which is nothing but sub standard tomato and cream gravy in almost all US based Indian restaurants). Ordered the pea Kachori and mustard fish. Liked both. I would recommend this to restaurant to others. What I didn't like was the cleanliness. I mean the restaurant was kept fine , but the tables were sticky, the floor was sticky, which in my opinion should be addressed. (Hence 4 stars for now).

The Eden Gardens is a lucky place to get bengali/east Indian food. I finally was able to get tandoori chicken I have been craving for a long time here. I was so hyped to find out they have Kati rolls too. Mango lassi serving is a little small but it's very good. We had paneer, butter chicken, tandoori fish, and a few rice dishes. Service is quick and on point. Ambiance it's super well decorated and cozy.

If you want to explore different type of Indian food this is your place to try. There are very few East of India cuisine places in the Bay Area (3 in total). They also have regular Indian fare. We got Luchi (fried bread), Goat kasha, Sorshe Rui (fish cooked in mustard gravy), Rice and chai, lime soda. Drinks were really good. Strong hot tea. Lime soda was perfect. Luchi was soft, crispy on the outside, hot. A must try. Mangsho kasha- It was good goat curry but definitely not kasha! Kasha mangsho has deep brown onion gravy.. So even though it wasn't kasha the goat was soft, tasty. Sorshe Rui- good quality and quantity of fish. Perfectly done (paatla jhol) thin gravy with green chillies on top. Service was good. So here are my recommendations if you want to diversify your Indian food exploration. You won't find these in most other places (total of 3 exist in the Bay Area with one being more bangladeshi food). Lots of following dishes are vegetarian/vegan (v) friendly- Appetizers- veg chop(v), enchor-er-chop (v), fish chop, chicken chop jhal muri (v). All rolls- egg, double egg, egg chicken. Phool makhana sabji, begun basanti, shukto, aloo potol, ghughni, aloo posto all of these are vegetarian friendly. Rohu kalia, sorse rui, shrimp malai curry. Accompaniments -Misti pulao, luchi, peas kochuri. All desserts. You will thank me later. Will be back to try all these dishes one by one.

Week of poila baishak( Bengali new year) always craves for some good Bengali food. We went to Eden gardens for dinner. The fish fry was tasty. Kachuri was good. The size was pretty good. Chicken kosha was ok. We also tried the Naboborsho fish thali. It was $24. It was pretty good.

Lopa is also here at Durga Puja for Paschimi. Fantastic street food.

Same great taste, food stall style. Thanks Lopa. Arch, thanks for being a great host.

Review for @_theedengardens_ in San Jose: - Price point: $$ ($30-$50pp) - Cuisine: indian (Bengali) - Ambience: walls beautifully decorated with nostalgic Bengali arts in black and white, a little loud in the weekend evenings, afternoon ambience is great! - Food review: 1. Chicken Dum Biryani- 8/10 (average) 2. Luchi and goat kosha 9/10 (really good!) 3. Korai shutir kochuri (pea-stuffing) 7/10 (very little stuffing) 4. Fish fry - 10/10 (our favorite!!) 5. Tandoori chicken - 7/10 (little dry) We are happy to have an Indian restaurant in bayarea catering to Bengalis. Prices for some of the items seemed a tad high. The ambience was great. We loved the decor. WE WILL BE BACK TO TRY THE OTHER ITEMS! Recommend for: authentic bengali cuisine

Jubba is serving up some of the best food i've ever had. As a newbie to somali food, I am now hooked. we came in on a friday around 6:15 and there was a steady group of people enjoying their food. we ordered at the counter and took a seat outside to enjoy the weather 1 Sambusa 1 chicken wrap 1 beef plate the sambusa arrived first and initially I thought Samosa in my head. But the sambusa has a better structure, holding its shape after multiple bites. the Dough is softer but still crispy. it came with beef , chilies and other vegetables. so so good. the perfect appetizer for us. it came with a spicy green sauce that seemed to be the common sauce for every dish then the stars of the show. The sizzling hot beef plate served with veggies, rice and a salad was unbelievable. add on a lemon and some more greens sauce and you're in for a treat. the rice alone was so flavorful and it tasted like there was meat drippings on top. the beef was so tender and fell apart in 1 bite. I was blown away with the dish the chicken wrap... man. I'm not sure what kind of bread, pita was used but it was fantastic. a huge wrap with lettuce, onion chicken, sauce and other veggies. It was so messy and hard to eat with your hands so we resorted to eating with a fork and knife. Unreal. Unreal. massive portions again which are a theme here. But holy smokes this was so good. The chicken has a nice char, but is also juicy and saucy. the spongy pita neutralizes the bombardment of flavor from the meat, and the veggies compliment everything with some crunch and texture. Service was great and very helpful. They were extremely friendly and a delight to talk with. We will be back 5/5

One of the few Indian restaurants that doesn't taste like they have three main sauces they pull from with no effort to make flavors differentiate or pop. The dishes here taste like the chef's actually care about the food. Service is polite and simple. Very low maintenance. Not a restaurant if you like to be picky. Come to enjoy it as it is. My only complaint (and it is minor) is that, because they do a lot of take out, they have a lot of drinks and other items prepared to just grab and go for you. This doesn't work if your order anything other than water to drink at the table. They offer really interesting and refreshing tea/lemonades, yet when they bring the drink it comes prepared to go in plastic cup, sealed, with boba style fat straw (as opposed to the very elegant picture on their menu). It stood out as massively tacky and ugly, especially because of how thoughtful the design choices are for the table scape and the rest of the dining experience. Strange place to cut a corner. Even opening the to go cup at the counter, pouring it into one of the lovely water glasses (which is what I did, lol) would be easy and streamline the beautiful experience.
