Fantastic experience!! After reading some of the earlier posts I wasn't sure what to expect with the food. The fish and chips were simply amazing, and the chicken tenders were great also. We went on a Sunday special, and the Guiness was $3!!! Great pint of Guiness, great food, great prices, and a great bar. I will be back as often as possible. read more

Recent visit to see some great friends in Chicago and they recommended going to Declan's Pub for a throwback college feeling night. Declan's was definitely hopping on a Wednesday night and we rocked the trivia! They had decent specials with OK food at decent prices. I am mortified this place has 3 1/2 stars. Why can I not give zero stars Yelp??? I just left Declan's and I am going to sound like a person with mental illness, granted I may just be undiagnosed. So in the spirit of being light and "funny" this review is going to be the random thoughts and quotes (most are quotes) during the 1 1/2 hours at Declan's. * It's on like Donkey Kong!!! (while thinking about writing this review) * "Why the F did I come here" (remembering the last HORRIBLE time we came. Last night was my third time coming here since they opened a few weeks ago. i've tried 3 different things on the menu and have to say the steak sliders are my favorite. The place just makes you feel at home the second you walk inside. I'd go here just to drink even if the food wasn't really really good which it is. They've got a nice variety of beers on tap and bottled beer. I usually start off with one of their frozen lemonades or margarita's though. i've gotten to know a lot of the staff which is rare for me because I'm not the type of person to chat up staff at bar's/restaurants. They seem eager to get to know the people coming in as a true neighborhood bar should do. I actually don't even live in the neighborhood which is the ironic part. I definetly see this place being in my small rotation of bars I haunt. My only beef would be that they said they are a Purdure bar for football and basketball, as I'm a graduate of Wisconsin. That would have just been to perfect if they were a badger bar but like my mother says nobody's perfect. read more

Great place to hang with friends and have some drinks. Food has been hit or miss, but I find the burgers and Corned beef sandwich their most consistent menu items. Their $3 Tecate's on the weekends can't be beat and Friday and Saturday nights tend to be a wild scene. read more

This is the sponsor bar for my flag football team. Drink prices are pretty on par for the area. The food is solid and priced very reasonably. They have a nice outdoor seating area in the warmer months. The staff are always friendly and attentive. One of the worst restaurant experiences ive ever had. Our food took over 2 hours to come out then came out cold. Waitress had 4 tables max and did not check up on us once! When we asked to speak to the manager she said she'd let him know then we waited another 30 MINUTES for him. It was a saturday afternoon but the entire place was almost empty. I am SO happy this place opened up. I live close by and never went to Spoon because I just didn't care for the place and I have been unhappy with the service at Saluki Bar for years, so hearing that this Irish pub was opening was great. And I have not been disappointed. The staff is always friendly, the place is always clean, they have an outside beer garden and bean bags in the summer. DeClan himself is always there and a really nice guy. I have all my friends going here now and we all love it. I definitely recommend this bar! read more

Terrible terrible terrible service. It took forever to place an order for food or drinks. Sometimes we had to go directly to the bar to get a drink. Had to remind the server for water 3 times. My friend ordered some food and she brought out an empty bottle of ketchup. Another friend wanted to give the server a credit card to start a tab and she said no you don't have to give a card, just don't leave. Please take your business elsewhere. read more

I went to Declan's to watch a Blackhawks game this week and had a fantastic time! They had just revamped the food menu and everything from the flatbreads to the burgers were excellent. The blue haven burger was especially delicious. Service was great too even though the bar was busy. I will definitely be coming back here again! read more

I'm only giving this two stars because I have worked in the restaurant industry for a long time and I know some things are out of your control. Stopped in here tonight with 6 people and it was moderately busy. Pros: Dogs are allowed on the patio (this is why we came). Some of my friends complain about the food but I think it is pretty good. You can usually get a table right away. The staff is generally pretty nice and unpretentious. Cons: The service is usually on the slower side, but it is expected when you can seat yourself and a waitress might get busy all at once. Tonight, however, was really bad. I want to preface this review by saying I don't blame her, but mainly the restaurant itself and training of staff as the poor girl was pleasant and probably inexperienced. The waitress greeted us in about 5 minutes of being seated and brought us water (good start). We ordered a round of drinks and they came out in a reasonable time. Four of the six of us were eating and my boyfriend and I ordered food while the other two wanted to hold off. After 5 or so minutes we were told one of the entrees was not available so she gave us time to pick something else. 20 minutes went by and the waitress did not return. At this point, I didn't want my entree anymore because the restaurant was clearly behind and we wanted to have a better experience somewhere else. (No biggie, just wasn't worth it). I told the waitress if my dinner wasn't ready then I would just cancel the order. This is restaurant talk for "I'm not really happy but I understand so I just want to leave." My salad was brought about 5 minutes later so I just took it. This was the first time we were told the Internet was down and we could either pay in cash or write down our credit card numbers. This has happened to me when I worked in the restaurant industry and it sucks, but the number one rule is you do not ignore the customer for fear of being yelled at. The other two ordered their meals and my boyfriend finally made his re-order. Another broken rule, since we originally ordered at the same time, do not put one order in if you don't have the other new order. You hold off and then go get the new order. Could you imagine being at a nice dinner and only one entree came out? My salad would have probably been pretty good except there was no dressing on it and the waitress never came back to check on me, so I just ate it anyways. We waited about 20-30 minutes for the next round of food to come out. The biggest issue we had is that we were never checked on for our drinks. All of our drinks were empty for at least 30 minutes. We asked for our check and told them who was on each check. Again, I know this can be confusing but if you even attempt to keep track of who had what, it is easier in the end. But, not surprising, we were given just one check and split it up ourselves. We got a half-hearted apology from one of the managers? explaining the Internet was down. I don't need an apology, not your fault. Just be genuine and train your staff on how to handle situations. I am not blaming the young waitress as she was very nice, but there are a lot of bars on Wells and we probably won't go back to this one unless we can't get a table anywhere else. read more

I went to Declans Irish pub looking for a cool laid back place to hang out and that is just what I found. I am a big beer drinker and like trying new kinds and they had a good selection of drafts and bottles to choose from. Service is god awful. All the employees are not friendly at all. It is also expensive considering the type of bar it is. In this area I would consider $5 for a craft beer to be standard, but they were $6 here. Not terribly expensive but on the high side. There is also is not a lot bar area which means you are usually creeping behind someone for a drink on busy nights. read more
