    Reuben sandwich and chowder

Gotta take a break . Driving from I - 5 to Yachats is arduous . In the town of Alsea , there is respite . Sat outside with the family . Dogs , too . Family style menu . Burgers , sandos , breakfast , etc...... Service was a little slow 'cause staffing . However , everything tasted good . Call it what you want....hole in the wall , greasy spoon , it's popular . Especially for motorcycles . Many motorcycles .

We love the relaxing drive down Alsea highway to the coast. Passed by this cafe many times and there is always lots of cars outside but we never stopped until my dentist in Salem recommended them. Can't believe we let this one go by!!!! Breakfast was great! Deb was great! Service was great! She is " Wonder Woman" doing it all herself. Server and cook! Cute establishment with lots of fun stuff on the walls to entertain you as you wait. Prices also good compared to most and she buys local as much as possible. Farm fresh eggs were a surprise and for that alone we will be back. Good job Deb!! Next time we will make sure and try your home made pies

First you want to recognize this isn't fancy city folk stuff. This is a good place to grab a good bite. The waitress was helpful and supportive of the fact that I had two young kids with us. We spoke English and Spanish in our group and never once did we ever feel out of place. Sometimes in small towns it's a little uncomfortable, but this place was cool. I'm originally from Miami and now live in Eugene. Ive eaten a lot of burgers and a lot of montecristos at fancier places, and this place had a solid double cheese burger that hit the spot, crispy fresh fried onion rings, great fries, and a yummy montecristo. I would absolutely come back to this place. It was filled with funny little signs, and cool country art photography and deer horns. It was perfect for what we wanted on a sunny spring day.

I ate literally, blueberry pie (heated) ala mode. My wife enjoyed tuna melt/fries. Tasty all. Nice clean little place way out in the coast range. Service was quick and attentive.

Amazing food and service, came in with a big group after a camping trip but food came quick and delicious.

This place is a gem. A fixture of Alsea that you shouldn't miss if you're on your way through town. We had great, personalized service and delicious home-cooked food -- fresh hand-cut French fries, an excellent Rueben, and a solid Caesar salad. The perfect place for us to stop on the way back (or on the way to, for that matter) the Coastal Range mountains! And, they have a lovely outdoor porch for those looking for outdoor seating

    Chocolate cream pie

The pie we got was so bad!!! We got the 5 berry pie, which was way to thick, the texture of the pie resembled cheep refrigerated Chinese sweet and sour sauce, and had a paper thin crust. Who knows how old that pie was in the case. Also had the chocolate cream pie (again looked like it was over 5 days old) it tasted like jello pudding (Just because you made instant pudding does not mean its home made). The whipped cream topping took on a pink ish tan color from being in contact with the chocolate filling. In all of my days I have never seen this happen. The reason for the lonely one star was given for the country cafe ambiance, the best part about this whole experience was petting their cat outside of the restaurant.

    What a great little cafe!!!

This is a little cafe in quaint Alsea, Oregon. Deb was our cook and host and her son (Cody, I think?) was our waiter. The restaurant was clean and cozy, the food was terrific and Deb was an absolute pleasure to visit with. There were even chickens and a rooster on the front porch and lawn. Our party of 8 had the meatloaf sandwich, Monte Cristo, chicken Cesar wrap, Club sandwich, and the Egg Salad sandwich. Everything was delicious! Can I recommend brown gravy on your tots? Why yes you can and it was awesome!

We got the seafood platter as an appetizer and it was so delicious! We got to try a little bit of everything. We were pretty full just off of that but got entrees. The ahi poke in the seafood platter was so good I had to get it as my main. The sauce was so incredible with fresh avocado. I NEED that recipe. I would come back to Newport just for the ahi poke bowl. My fiance got the dungeness crab mac and cheese and it was without a doubt THE BEST mac and cheese we've ever had. We are Mac and cheese connoisseurs so that says a lot. The sauce was so perfect and the crab was very generous. To top it all off I thought the post cards at the end were very sweet. I came to Newport when I was a child (maybe 7 years old) and I had lots of old memories that I relived on my trip. I sent one to my mom. Our waiter was absolutely lovely. We hope to come back one day!

Both were outstanding and way better than I expected. To be honest, the pasta dish was one of the best I have ever had and this is one dish that I am critical of because I have had really good Jambalaya pasta and some bad ones. This one was way way up there. The sausage was excellent and the chicken and shrimp were perfect, but the sauce made the dish. I can not wait to have it again. The whole staff was friendly and our waitress was excellent and very helpful. My only regret was not asking for a window seat when we got there. We had a reservation and there was a table by the window that was open, but we got seated by the entrance. A couple that walked in after us with no reservation got the table by the window which was odd. Again, not a deal breaker and I should have asked to sit there. I definitely would not hesitate to eat here again or recommend it to everyone. I am looking forward to the next visit.

I don't even really like caesar salad that much, and theirs is top notch. they split our plate for an extra $3 and it was plenty after appetizers. lastly, interiors: our table was perfect. they sat us right by the window on the water for sunset. Rainy Day, Great Bar Seat, and One Memorable Meal…read more It was a cold, rainy Oregon afternoon when I stumbled into Castor, and I'm glad I did. There happened to be one open seat at the bar, which is my favorite place to dine when traveling. Sitting at the bar lets you talk story with the bartender, learn the menu, and watch the cocktails come together. If you're eating alone, I highly recommend grabbing a seat here. The bartender was friendly, easy to talk with, and clearly knew both the menu and the craft behind the bar. One thing that stood out right away was their use of fresh local ingredients, which really shows up in the flavor of the dishes and drinks. I started with the Golden Manhattan, made with a pecan-infused bourbon that was fantastic. It had a rich, slightly nutty flavor with warm vanilla notes and just the right touch of sweetness. Smooth, balanced, and a great way to kick off the meal. Alongside that I ordered the chorizo clam chowder, which brought a creamy base with just the right amount of spice from the chorizo. Comfort food with a little personality. For dinner I switched gears and ordered the Creole Sour. This one really stood out. Bright citrus up front, a smooth bourbon backbone, and a subtle spice note that tied perfectly into the Creole theme. It had that classic sour balance, tart, slightly sweet, and refreshing without overpowering the drink. Dinner was the gumbo with hot bread and butter, and it delivered. Deep flavor, a nice slow warmth from the spice, and hearty enough to make the rainy Oregon weather feel like part of the experience. To finish things off I kept it simple with a neat pour of Ben Holladay, which made for the perfect nightcap. The staff were welcoming and relaxed, which made the whole experience feel easy and comfortable. This is the kind of place that works whether you're dining solo, meeting friends, out with someone special, or grabbing dinner with a group. The price point landed right where it should be for the quality of food, cocktails, and service. If you're in Corvallis and can grab a seat at the bar at Castor, take it. Order a cocktail, settle in, and enjoy the ride. It turned a rainy afternoon into one heck of a meal.

The shrimp and grits was bland and not very appealing. The frites were what seemed like a lot of small pieces and bits you'd find in the bottom leftovers of a big bag of pre-cut frozen French fries and, frankly, were overcooked. The French onion soup tasted almost burned, not rich and deeply flavored as would be expected of such an item. There was nothing about the meal that screamed or even whispered "fine dining" except for the price. We won't be back.
