Looking for something new, we decided to take a little road trip to Alsea to try Deb's Cafe. We're glad we did. This is definitely a hidden gem in the country. Driving up, I was surprised to see a small house converted to a cafe with roadside parking. The inside is very rustic with wood paneling and furniture. It's a very inviting environment with humorous signs and old time historical photos. We are greeted as we walk in and take one of the tables by a window. Deb is the owner/operator and she does a stellar job with running the whole show by herself. She was taking orders, cooking, checking on customers, refilling drinks and never missed a beat. I had the bacon cheeseburger with fries. It is served open face with cheese, onions, tomatoes, pickles, bacon and lettuce. The sauce (a mayo blend?) added a nice depth of flavor and made it hard to put down. This has an excellent flavor combination from the cool fresh veggies combined with the hot seasoned burger with melted cheese. The fries are made on site from potatoes on a per order basis. Sliced and fried on demand, really fresh! Then there was the homemade pies. She makes them all herself from recipes handed down from her Grandmother. These pies are huge. I had the apple pie and it came a la mode with a creamy vanilla ice cream. It was cooked well and the filling has a nice thickness to it. Loved this small, welcoming and tasty stop in Alsea. It's quaint and clean. My burger was fresh made and hit the spot. Somehow I had room for pie! It was delicious. What a crust! We love the relaxing drive down Alsea highway to the coast. Passed by this cafe many times and there is always lots of cars outside but we never stopped until my dentist in Salem recommended them. Can't believe we let this one go by!!!! Breakfast was great! Deb was great! Service was great! She is " Wonder Woman" doing it all herself. Server and cook! Cute establishment with lots of fun stuff on the walls to entertain you as you wait. Prices also good compared to most and she buys local as much as possible. First you want to recognize this isn't fancy city folk stuff. This is a good place to grab a good bite. The waitress was helpful and supportive of the fact that I had two young kids with us. We spoke English and Spanish in our group and never once did we ever feel out of place. Sometimes in small towns it's a little uncomfortable, but this place was cool. I'm originally from Miami and now live in Eugene. Ive eaten a lot of burgers and a lot of montecristos at fancier places, and this place had a solid double cheese burger that hit the spot, crispy fresh fried onion rings, great fries, and a yummy montecristo. I would absolutely come back to this place. It was filled with funny little signs, and cool country art photography and deer horns. It was perfect for what we wanted on a sunny spring day. read more

As flat landers from the plains of the Midwest we were visiting the Oregon coast. On our return trip to Eugene to catch a flight home our alternative route took us through Alsea and a late great breakfast here. I always say this!! This is just my experience at that time. So I'm going to recommend this place . Although I got there at 11:30ish and at that time lunch. and I actually don't know if dinner could have been served. As I was told all the pies are home made which they have a big assortment. Plus all the soups of the day are also homemade. The curry and chicken pieces were actually ok. Tastes more like chicken soup but that's ok cause at least it was good. I also had a piece of peach cobbler and raspberries. Actually tasted like peach no raspberry flavor. But was pretty good. Although there was only 1 order taker and she was the cook too. Food came out pretty fast cause what I ordered was already cooked. As more people came is she was right on them and I feel since it was during the week and maybe 6 other people there , when maybe busier times there will be more help. Waitress was polite and friendly and the lighting was actually nice. They have good seating and a bar if you'd like. So I'll be at least going back to check out their dinner plates. So I'll give it a 3 star and re-adjust at that time. But for a little place it's not bad. read more

After a strenuous hike, we were ravenous, and Deb's was the place to be. Our burgers arrived quickly and were rather substantial. Their hand-cut fries were split, and my handmade clam chowder was very delicious. We thought highly of them. Our waiter was incredibly kind and helpful. Exceptionally rude service. I entered the restaurant with my parents and young children 1 hour before they were scheduled to close. The woman who appeared to own the place fussed that my daughter didn't close the door quick enough and was letting cold air out. The owner barked that she was closing in 15, then begrudgingly told us we could have a seat and pointed to a table. I commented on the rude way she was speaking to us because it was so uncomfortable and she scoffed. We were so uncomfortable we decided not to eat there. I should add, I have never taken the time to write a review for a restaurant - but I was so taken aback by how run down and unfriendly this place was given the reviews making it sound like a family friendly place to get a meal and take a break. This was our first trip to this quaint little cafe in Alsea. I am not sure about the hot and cold reviews on this site. It looks like the restaurant has gotten a complete makeover and I read where there were some health issues for the owner last fall. It does look like maybe the hours and the menu are not accurate, so check with them about hours and expect there to be some higher (but reasonable) prices when you get there. We had the hamburger and fries (both really, really good) and the chicken strip basket that I was able to get with a cup of excellent Cajun gumbo on the side. The chicken strips were hand-breaded and some of the best I have gotten in Benton County. The young man serving us was personable, and the food came quickly. Overall, we were very pleased with our visit and plan on this being one of our short-trip getaways from now on. read more

This place is just off the beat, and there is no beat so that's how far off the cafe is. This is where the whole town shows up, and the whole town is not a whole lotta people. With that saying, even though Deb (thinking there really must be a Deb) does not have any competition she brings it all to the table. I mean the reuben I had was fat with meat, goodies and great bread. My hubby had a delicious sandwich as well as a Siuslaw Brewing beer. The brewery is just a little bit yonder from Deb's after all. Yes there is a brewery out in the middle of nowhere and how cool is that. I'll get a review out as soon as I go back there and visit. I, on the other hand, wanted a glass of wine. The cook? or the owner came out to tell me that they don't get a lot of wine orders here so, he apologized for the one choice. The one choice was just what I wanted as it was a nice cold Chardonnay. (It was super hot out on this day). Of course she makes pies! Alright, there is another pie place up a little ways called Benton Pie company but that does not stop her from making her own. I was too full to have a piece but they looked great in the window. It's not a big place and it's rustic and definitely a great local feel obviously too. The pie we got was so bad!!! We got the 5 berry pie, which was way to thick, the texture of the pie resembled cheep refrigerated Chinese sweet and sour sauce, and had a paper thin crust. Who knows how old that pie was in the case. Also had the chocolate cream pie (again looked like it was over 5 days old) it tasted like jello pudding (Just because you made instant pudding does not mean its home made). The whipped cream topping took on a pink ish tan color from being in contact with the chocolate filling. In all of my days I have never seen this happen. The reason for the lonely one star was given for the country cafe ambiance, the best part about this whole experience was petting their cat outside of the restaurant. read more

This is a little cafe in quaint Alsea, Oregon. Deb was our cook and host and her son (Cody, I think?) was our waiter. The restaurant was clean and cozy, the food was terrific and Deb was an absolute pleasure to visit with. There were even chickens and a rooster on the front porch and lawn. Our party of 8 had the meatloaf sandwich, Monte Cristo, chicken Cesar wrap, Club sandwich, and the Egg Salad sandwich. Everything was delicious! Can I recommend brown gravy on your tots? Stopped there for lunch this weekend. We were very pleased. The service was great and so very friendly. The food was delicious! I had the fish and chips, which were very good and plenty of! We found a ball of hair in our to go order. The owners did refund us but later 86 my boyfriend saying he must have put the hair in there. He's bald and I am blonde and I was the only one who touched the order besides him. We are there a few other times and night and the cook was sweating profusely when she came out to talk to us. The servers are great but the food at night is awful. Breakfast is good the owner is there and we have never had any issues in the morning time. read more

We are from out of town and have been working down the road from Deb's for about a week. We come here every night after work to get a good home cooked meal. Very small town feel to the restaurant with Deb greeting everyone who comes in by name and chatting with them in between cooking up great meals. I always get the fettucini with home cooked rolls. The pasta is well cooked and the sauce is made from scratch for each batch. Her rolls are insanely good. I tried the milkshakes, and if you don't mind gaining 10 pounds, they're delicious. The pies are great too. My dad usually gets the healthier options like lean beef patties and steaks...also very good. Clam chowder on Friday's is pretty awesome too. Overall no complaints whatsoever. For a small town restaurant (the only one in town I think) it's great. Dunno what the other reviewer here is talking about...the food we've have gotten the past 5 nights here has been great in every way. I'd be a bit on the negative side too if I lived in Alsea and only had one restaurant to choose from though. read more

This place has improved a ton since my last review. Every time I go to Deb's I always get a cheeseburger and fries, and other than being overpriced, there is nothing wrong with the burger. It is WAY delicious. And you can tell the fries aren't those nasty frozen things, you can tell they made them themselves. They're crispy and salty and greasy and perfect. AWFUL. We stopped in for burgers on our way back from camping in Waldport. First, we went outside to find a seat and there were dirty dishes scattered about, so we had to clear a space to sit. Once we were finally seated, our menfolk asked what beers they have on hand and the snarky waitress snapped back with "I'm too young, I cannot talk about beer with you. You'll have to go inside and ask the chef about it". Then, we noticed our dog she was getting lonely in the (shaded) car out front, so we decided to grab her and tie her up under our table. She was fine. She just laid down and took a little nap by her people....at least she did until the manager came storming out saying we cannot have the dogs on the deck and we need to remove them now. For real? We're from Portland, so this is extremely odd to us, but we obliged because she muttered something about their insurance as she walked away - oooookay. Then, I ordered a side salad with my mushroom and Swiss burger. She asked what type of dressing I wanted, I said a balsamic vinaigrette, she looked extremely confused and then said "okay, I can see". Then brought me a side salad with mushy green peas, beets, and other assorted veggies and straight balsamic vinegar..... Seriously? Then, once we all received our food, my burger didn't have mushrooms, all the burgers were DRIPPING with grease, and THERE WAS A HAIR IN MY BURGER. Plus, the fries were limp and soggy. The tots were pretty tasty, but that's not saying much as I assume they're not handmade in house. Also, we had to ask for water refills and napkins because the waitress was oblivious. Absolutely wonderful! We stopped here for lunch after hiking in the area and were greeted by friendly staff and delicious food. I recommend the onion rings for an appetizer or side - perfect ratio of breading and onion. They served them with ranch to dip in. Clean, tidy...even the condiments had been wiped down (something you rarely see even in the big city restaurants...bet you take a look at the next table you sit at). Good food...can even choose what goes on your omelette, from the normal fillings to broccoli to pineapple. Portions are reasonable and prices are fair. Pie is homemade...not from the 'Pie Shack' down the road, making this town the great pie capital of Oregon, what with 2 superb pie joints, (we got the Marion Berry, plenty of filling and a light crust...no complaints...and I'm an old restaurateur). We came off a wet hike at Mary's Peak and had a late lunch at Deb's. We were the only group in the house. We were greeted warmly and served very quickly. The food was hot and very good. We have been stopping by this cafe for breakfast on our way to the Oregon coast for several years now, and have never been disappointed. Its warm, friendly small town atmosphere and delicious food keeps bringing us back. Love the outdoor seating on the deck which has been wonderful during COVID challenges.
