For my first appointment, scheduled at 4:00 PM, I was left waiting in a room until all the staff had gone home. When I opened the door to make sure they hadn't forgotten about me, the office was dark. I could only find one staff person who said the doctor had gotten stuck with another patient. No one had bothered to let me know, so I asked for a co-pay refund and left. I never even got to see Dr. Yu. No one was apologetic and I've never heard from the office since. If you want personal and compassionate care, do not go to this OBGYN office! They don't care about their patients. read more

Our complain is mainly about Dr. Yu Practice. She herself is an ok doctor (although she did get the week of the baby wrong at 7 weeks due to having an older technology for ultra sound). The one and only time we went to her office we waited a total of 3 hours for our session (the office could have called and let us know they were running behind). MAIN MAIN Reason for not going here: dealing financially with this institution is a nightmare! Everything is cash based, which means when they charge you ahead of time to pay for your session and then your insurance also covers the cost because the staff made a mistake in checking your insurance, you have to chase these people for months straight and still don't see a refund check back. I have called this place and talked to the billing department at least a dozen times since and they always had some excuse for not issuing a check and we still haven't seen our money back (13 weeks later) read more

I called them today and asked for an appointment. My insurance company told me that Dr. Yu is in their net. I should be able to go to see her. But the staff said they don't accept my insurance. Deborah Yu and Michelle Yu are both good doctors. This rating is for the office front desk lady in Monterey Park location. She is an older lady who always sit at the front desk. She is very rude. There was one time, She wanted to charge me for the ultra sound, and I called my insurance agent and proof her wrong. She got so mad and purposely made me wait for one hour before I can see the doctor. I went to her and asked her why other people who came after me already went in. I saw the list and I should see the doctor long time ago. She took away the list from me and said I would be the next one. Come on... Admit her own mistake shouldn't be hard. I am extremely impressed with Dr. Yu. I've been so tired of being disappointed with MD's. I'm a travel RN and needed to get in quick for some severe personal gynecological problems. Luckily, I was scheduled right then when I called d/t a cancelation. She listened to me, gave me emotional and verbal support, and called me several days later to check on me and said, "I'm so glad you're doing better." That meant a lot as I was in a 10/10 pain for days. I will definitely be seeing her again. read more

My first visit was 1 hour and 45 minutes waiting and now I am over 1 hour and 30 minutes into waiting with no relief in sight. If you are pregnant and looking for OB doctor. Dr Deborah Yu is the right one for you. I have never had a doctor that can answer your phone call if you need her. I can attest to that she is very dedicated to her patient. I cant imagine how can she find time for herself bcuz she is in and out of the office cuz she also goes to the hospital to deal with her patients. But at the same time she will make time to make a phone call for you if she has some concerns with your condition. Ive had a complicated pregnancy, she was very confident that she can take care of me. She explains to me very well about my condition. She never left without asking me if I have more questions. I have been in and out of the hospital before Dr Yu delivered my baby via csection, and most of the nurses at Methodist Hospital have high respect with Dr Yu. They can vouch that I chose a right doctor. I am grateful she is my ob doctor, she saved my life. read more

Upon discovering we were pregnant, we began the trek of finding a good OB. Surprisingly, Dr. Yu stood out as one of the only physicians with a significant amount of yelp reviews. The account doesnt even seem to be monitored by the business so the traffic seemed very organic. We took a shot and scheduled an appointement for our initial screening for my wife and soon to be baby boy. We spent the next 9-10 months with her and a few visits after our delivery. Here are our impressions: 1) Scheduling was not an issue, but keeping time was. However, this is the nature of the beast when it comes to OB and a sole practictioner. Unless you're fine with seeing multiple doctors to accomodate the schedule when one is out, you're going to have to wait. OBs deliver babies and unfortunately for them, not on a set schedule. You may be left waiting for her to arrive to the appointement through no fault of her own. Shes very busy and always in surgical scrubs. 2) Dr. Yu is a work horse. We saw her working late hours in the hospital when we were there after delivery and during hospital tours. She called us after hours a few times to call out test results. If shes late to your appointement, its because she was in surgery or delivering a baby, not playing golf. It was frustrating obviously left waiting in the office an hour past your appointment, but if you're realistic, you'll understand shes tending to other deliveries and will be happy to know shell be there for your when you time comes. We wanted 1 and only 1 OB from start to finish and thats exactly what we got. I dont know her numbers, but Dr. Yu work and works hard. When she calls us at 9pm for follow up, its reassuring to her commitment to her patients. We delivered by Csection on a Saturday at 5:30am - a time most of us would rather be in bed. She was not the warmest initially, but she gave us the time we needed. Some visits were very short but we never felt rushed. You could tell Dr. Yu is handling a very busy schedule and handles A LOT of maternities and deliveries. 3) The office is fairly standard and not much in terms of bells and whistles. It would have been nice to have a ritz carlton experience, but a competent doctor that would be there for us when we needed was far more important. Her staff is not to be desired and they were often very short. A few smiles could go a long way and were certainly lacking. I'm sure managing her practice along with all of the girls in the office is a task most of us would want to pass up. Sure...the rude front desk and waiting times had us on the fence a few times. However, Dr. Yus expertise and follow through was excellent and why we stuck it through to the end. She's working, working, working...and we knew when our time came, shed be there working for us. She delivered our baby boy via csection and the incision and scarring were minimal. If you're looking for the best OB, you found her...I think the number of reviews for Dr. Yu compared to the lack of reviews from every other practioner tell you something. read more

Expect long waits and poor office follow through. Dr Yu is very knowledgeable and she is a great doctor that truly knows her field. Because she is good she is so booked up and extremely hard to get a hold of. We have called several times and its been so difficult to even get the front office to answer. It's usually their telephone service that answers and it's really useless to leave a message because the office never calls you back. I guess that unless your call is of extreme urgent nature they will call you back. We have left messages with the answering service (we called during regular buss hours) and the phones are always tied up. We even complaint to the phone service and all they could so was to apologize but again no one calls you back from the office. We even complaint to the office and their excuse is that they just moved so their line are down. For all we know it's always been like this. If you think that calling at 9:35am on a Wednesday that it should be fine then, think again. The office doesn't answer at that time so it's also the answering service picking up the phone. They go to lunch and don't pick up the phone for 1 1/2 hours, again it's the phone service that answers during this time. You must be so persistent and keep on calling. You need to have Dr. Yu on auto redial! The waiting at her office is horrible. You wait forever and it's packed with patients. Even when they finally show you to your own room you still wait forever for Dr. Yu to show up! We have considered changing doctors for our second pregnancy, however because we don't know any other good doctor we are putting up with all of the poor service. They just moved to a new medical center so do except long lines and your records to be lost or hard to find. If you have plenty of time then you can wait for Dr Yu. If you have to work or are a busy person, it would be best to find another doctor. My wife has tried calling other times for by regular issues and it's always the same thing, trying to even get the office to pick up their phone and even schedule a regular appointment is extremely hard.. read more

Three people have gone in since I asked n no sign of being called anytime soon. The staff is insensitive n incompetent. Just got called in. It is 4.16 pm. No apologies whatsoever. You shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get an appointment with your doctor, but that's exactly how it feels with Dr. Yu. First, it takes a month or more to get an appointment. Second, the phones are often busy during office hours, but you can't call after hours because they don't check their voicemail messages (they say this in their VM!!) and their office hours differ by day of the week and the office is totally closed for lunch (12:30-2). The front office staff are without warmth--they never say "hi" or anything when you arrive; you have to stand there for a while before anyone bothers to look up from their paperwork to toss you a checkin sheet. read more

My husband is a physician at the Methodist Hospital. When I first got pregnant 8 years ago, He asked the OB nurses there whom they would pick to deliver their babies, and the answer is an unanimous "Dr. Yu"! Therefore, we chose Dr. Yu to deliver all three of our babies through natural delivery. She is experienced, knowledgeable, ethical, dedicated to patients, and simply awesome. You may have to wait sometimes, but she's definitely worth waiting for! All the friends I referred to her have been very happy with her care and trust all our babies in her hands. I delivered my third baby 6 months ago, and 8 years later the nurses there still can't stop signing praises about Dr. Yu. She's skilled, gentle, and simply the best. If I ever get pregnant again (hopefully not with how expensive kids are nowadays...), I would definitely go to Dr. Yu again! read more

She delivered my son in November. I can't believe how time flies. She's a great doctor her staff is ok but she's very knowledgeable and caring toward her patients. I recommend her to anyone who wants a good doctor to deliver your child . Down side she's super busy so definitely come early to your appointment because you will have to wait anyway. FYI I have att and there's no reception in there so no INTERNET while you are waiting....no wifi.. :( if you have time-warner hotspot it might reach to her office depending where you sit. I am truly thankful for Dr. Deborah Yu. I found my cervix was shorten during 22 weeks. I almost lost my baby. She did cerclage for me which has a great success outcome. I delivered the baby almost in full term. When I stayed in the hospital, she visited me everyday. She gave me very good treatment and professional answers. Also I would like to thank all nurses in the Methodist Hospital who took care of me. Because of Dr. Yu and all the nurses, I got my most precious gift--my little angel. Dr. Yu is the best doctor in the world and I'm not joking. I have been seeing her for 6+ years and she always takes time and explains things in detail. What impresses me the most is that once i was very concerned about a test result and she actually called me herself to tell me the result on a Sunday. Sunday! How many doctors you know who actually takes time to call her patients, let alone on the weekend? Also, sometimes if it's really urgent, she would talk to you on the phone herself instead having you talk to her assistant. She's caring, competent, and overall a pretty amazing doctor. read more

Dr. Yu is by far the best doctor I have ever come across. I have been a patient of hers for 9 years and could never imagine going to any other OBGYN. She is very knowledgable, makes me feel calm and at ease, and never makes me feel like she is in a rush to leave the room. I say that as a patient who tends to have a lot of questions and worry a lot. She delivered my son in 2015 and as I am currently pregnant again, I look forward to her delivering my second child. I thoroughly enjoy seeing her for any type of visit, and will remain under her care until the day she retires! I was referred to Dr. Yu by my GYN when I became prego. Had been with Dr. Kee Koh in my last pregnancy and was so nervous as I had complications and wasn't sure who else I was to go to since he had since retired. Been with my GYN for over 15 yrs. and as she put it, "I only want to send you to the best of the best." For that, I am so grateful as Dr. Yu has proven to me to be the best. I have worked in over 33 hospitals in my career and she is definitely at the top 5% in my book. So professional, caring and knowledgeable. Never feel rushed. EACH time I leave my appt., I feel assured I am in the best hands :) I have found that she is an OB who will prepare you in what to expect..negative or positive during the course of treatment. I appreciate this as this deceases my anxiety level. I cannot say enought nice things about her, but what I can tell you, she is terrific! Her office is very busy and yes, as some yelpers have commented, she doesn't really smile that much. Well, I have found that to be true sometimes, but generally she smiles and I can even get a laugh out of her. Her job is stressful so I would not even think anything of it. I have not found it difficult to get an appt. but that maybe because I have regularly set appts for followup with her. Her staff Tracy and Stacy are also very nice. Each time they greet me with a smile and along with Dr. Yu, they make me feel valued as a patient. My work offered to pay 100% for my HMO medical plan during my new enrollment period and because Dr. Yu mainly takes PPO, I decided against it. Being in healthcare and knowing how much MD's get paid under HMO plans, I felt also that Dr. Yu deserves to be paid better. Yes...I pay about $400 per month out of pocket for my PPO plan and will have a high deductible/co pay for my hospitalization, but the peace of mind I have knowing that I am being cared for by Dr. Yu makes it all worth it. read more

I love Dr. Deborah Yu! She has great knowledge within this profession, straight forward and honest. All the qualities that I look for in a doctor. She is patient and answers all questions. Yes, there is usually a long wait for her. But her patients are understanding of her time. She not only sees patients in her office, but she has to tend to her patients that give birth at both Methodist and Huntington Hospitals. She is there for a patients when they her most. This is my first tim that I go to Dr. Debra Yu. I didn't know the front desk people are so rude and so unprofessional, they make appointment every 15mins, the doctor cannot even catch up the appointment times. I was there 3 or 4x already, each's wait is longer and longer, the shortest time I had wait was 1 1/2 hour, the first time I was there I waited 2hours. The Receptionists tells you that you cannot be late more than 10mins, otherwise they will have to cancel your appointment. AND THEY DON'T FEEL GUILTY TO HAVE YOU WAIT FOR 2 HOURS COMPARING WITH 10MINUTES? THIS IS RADICULOUS. IF THE DOCTOR CANNOT CATCH UP THE APPOINTMENTS, JUST MAKE APPOINTMENTS EVERY 30MINS INSTEAD OF 15MINS. They gave me an order form for my Ultrasound, they don't give me clear directioins, they gave me Methodist hospital address, but the place I suppose to go is the Women's clinic is outside of the hopsital, they made me missed my appointment and wasted me almost 2hours to find the place. I'M HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU to go another OB if you mind the wait and you don' t want to be upset with the FRONT DESK PEOPLE, I NEVER MET SUCH RUDE recitionist in my life. read more

I did a lot of research for Ob Gyns, not through Yelp but through references and other methods. Dr. Yu has been my Ob Gyn for over 6 years. She delivered both of my boys and is THE most hard working doctor I know. She is very busy but I never had to wait more than 20 minutes to see her for my appointment. She answered all of my concerns and questions and I never felt rushed during our one on one. Her staff members are great! The 3 ladies were always helpful and had a pleasant attitude. Dr. Yu is a TRUE professional and is dedicated to her patients. When the hospital would page her, she always called me back. I truly admire her because being an Ob Gyn, you constantly have deliveries that aren't scheduled and we knew we were in good hands. This is the 9th OB that I researched and checked. She is absolutely Magnificent. She explained everything in detail. I left feeling more knowledgeable and cared about. She called me personally to follow up on lab results and we had lengthy phone conversations. She made suggestions I had never received before and they have been making a big difference in my life. The front office staff was very friendly and attentive, they called me in right away despite the fact that I was there 30 min early. The office is clean and efficient. I work in a high end surgeons office in OC and I am very picky about what Dr I go to and Dr Michelle Yu exceeded my expectations. She's wonderful, I know a lot of people complain about the wait or having their spots rescheduled etc but please keep in mind she delivers babies for a living and she's 100% worth the wait ! even though I waited maybe only 5 min. LOVE DR YU! She is phenomenal. I went into labor (with my first baby) last May and when it was time to do an emergency C-section no other doctors were around so she had to call her sister, who is also an OBGYN to assist. Which I thought was pretty cool. The wait time isnt THAT unbearable...plus when its your turn to have one on one time with her its nice that she stays and listens and doesnt try to rush you when she is available. Through my entire pregnancy she only had an emergency once where I had to re-schedule. (not bad I think) considering how many pregnant broads there are in Arcadia. The stress tests towards the end of the pregnancy were crazy annoying. One almost took an hour. But that wasnt the MA's fault, my baby was in a funky position so the strap/heart monitor wouldnt stay in place long enough to get a good reading. All of the staff is wonderful EXCEPT for Karen (the short, skinny one with glasses). Shes quite snarky and never smiles. Everyone else- the main back office MA (I dont know if I ever got her name but shes the taller one that normally has a bun) and receptionist Melissa are fantastic and really personable. Dr. Yu is also good with calling back patients herself and genuinely cares. Thank you for being straight forward and blunt but also calming my nerves through my first pregnancy. From the moment I found out we were expecting I was horrified/had a stomach ache thinking about the process of labor and delivery: Ew to getting your vag. cut down through your butthole during natural labor and double Ew to basically being sawed in half for a c section haha The most traumatizing experience i've ever been through and would do it again in a heart beat. For the next baby we are definitely coming back to Dr Deborah Yu. read more

When it comes to my health and the health of my baby, I can't think of a better physician than Dr. Yu. She is very knowledgeable, personable, and always, ALWAYS leaves time to answer any questions you may have. Dr. Yu has the perfect combination of giving you the information in a clear and straightforward way, but maintaining a spirit of care and compassion. She delivered my son in 2003 and I only stopped seeing her for a few years when I moved out of the area. As soon as I moved back I booked an appointment with her. Yes, it is hard to get an appointment. This is because she is a fantastic doctor and is quite popular. When I started seeing her again I had to book my appointment 2 months out. Hey I've made restaurant reservations that far in advance and this is my health we're talking about! I've had relatively positive interactions with the staff in Arcadia. The staff in Monterey Park didn't have the best English skills so it was hard to leave messages with them. I'm not sure about now, but in response to a previous post, she used to work out of both offices. Her sister Michelle also worked at the Monterey Park/Garfield office. I saw Deborah Yu at the Monterey Park/Garfield office for months while I was pregnant with my son. You always had to be really clear with the staff which Dr. Yu you were seeing though. Now I'm seeing Deborah at the Arcadia office (since that's office my current insurance plan works with). I'm now dealing with a screw up from a lesser OB/GYN that I saw while I was living out of the area. It's scary and going to require some procedures to fix, and I'm so glad that I'm back with Dr. Yu. I wouldn't trust my body in anyone else's hands. She always answers every question and I always get a return phone call when I leave a message. Dr. Yu is great and we completely trust her with our babies. Everything from the good review about Dr. Yu is true. Professional, patient, knowledgeable ...etc. However, the staff part is true too. Went to see her this Tue PM, first time. The reception was nice and helpful, been told to fill out my historical medical info and waited about 10 mins or so. Nurse has called my name for blood pressure and weight measurement, then to be taken to the exam room waiting for doc. Not so long, Dr Yu came in and said Hi, she understands Chinese unfortunately cannot speak in full sentence - that's okay for us and we are impressed about her thoroughness and professionessum. She spent quite some time in the ultrasound while questions and answers were being shared during that time. We want to know the gender of the baby and Dr. tried so many times while unfortunately the baby "sits like a monk with the legs crossed right above your cervix" she mentioned. Hahhahaha. I must say Thank you to Dr. Deborah Yu.. She is a GREAT doctor... She cared and delivered for me back in 2008.. She spends the adequate time to discuss any and all your concerns that may arrise.. She makes you feel very comfortable and that your care is what's important.. I couldn't really say that about the staff.. However, there was a woman by the name of Connie I believe.. She was very nice and did her job! Now that I am pregnant now.. I was advised that the office no longer accepts new patients?? Very nice and fast Dr. She is high efficient, so you need to know what you want to ask for. Otherwise she will just go through standard procedure very quickly. She is very busy, rooms full of patients whenever we visit. And it's true, that you have to wait at least 40 mins. Stuff isn't too bad as other said, they are polite enough not hurting feelings.
