I have not been to Dr Yu for so long (two years)and glad I was able to find her in Pasadena. She was my gynecologist since the she bought arcadia ob/gyn. She is no longer in arcadia. She is very careful of prescribing medications to you. She will make sure it will benefit you. She is wonderful! She is at 10 congress Pasadena 505. Parking is expensive but I guess once a year is not so bad. read more

Firstly, want to note that I am seeing Dr. Deborah Yu as a patient at UCLA Pasadena OBGYN (May 2025). I just started OB/GYN care for pregnancy and having been a UCLA patient for years, this is the first time someone has gone above and beyond. There was a specific lab/test I needed for my health, and Dr. Yu spent extensive time trying to get it ordered through UCLA. She was familiar with the test from having been in private practice, but went to extra lengths to be sure that I could receive the right test. Never have I had a UCLA doctor call after hours to try to help. My fiancé also met her and we both felt good about care at our first appointment. 5 stars. read more

One star review because: - The office receptionist wouldn't give me a receipt to use for my HSA - They claimed that it would take a month to get everything processed with insurance before being able to give me a receipt but it ended up taking 3 months and I had to call 6-7 times - Wait time was extremely long - Dr. Yu was nice but she misdiagnosed me. She gave me a diagnosis on the premise of having to complete a blood test for confirmation when I believe she should have waited until the blood test was done to say anything. Dr. Yu is one of the best doctors I've ever met in my life! She's very knowledgeable, professional, very easy to talk to and always tells me like it is. I was referred to her by my doctor over 20 years ago and I have referred her to all of my family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and everyone loves her! She truly cares about your well-being which is rare to find in most doctors because their goal is to get you out of the office as quickly as possible. When she closed her practice I was so sad and panicked, not knowing if I will ever find anyone like her. Luckily, she moved to Pasadena, and I made every effort to change my insurance plans just to be able to see her again. Before Dr. Yu, my two other OBYGNs were not as knowledgeable nor as easy to talk to so I don't understand all the bad reviews I read on this site. I'm not one to write reviews and it takes a great deal for me to carve out time to do so. She's one of the best doctors and deserves to be recognized for her hard work and dedication. read more

Pros: Parking is ample and easy, front desk was very nice, Dr. Yu answered all my questions quickly and efficiently, quest diagnostics is next door to get your tests done right after your visit. Cons: not many, except they don't have like an online portal or something to check your status of tests- they called me and left a message to call back, and it made me nervous, and when I had time to call it was just to say everything was fine. Lol So for me, as a larger woman I always get comments about my weight and that the root of all my problems was my weight (there is fat bias in medicine, and studies show that doctors won't order tests or get specialists bc there is a bias against fat people) but she didn't even mention any of that. Which I was surprised because I get weight comments for every doctor. (I didn't get diagnosed with adhd amd ocd for 30 years because of it, a doctor refused X-rays on my broken toe when he knew I had a hockey stick slammed on it) Anyways, Dr. Yu spoke really fast, and literally got to the point and answered everything and did a full thorough exam WHILE EXPLAINING EVERYTHING!! Typically most doctors just poke and prod you and leave before you can even have a chance to speak. Some people might not like this, but for me, this is the type of communication I like. Quick, and to the point. If you aren't someone that likes that then I suggest you get a different practitioner. I work in healthcare too, and we are always pressed and forced to see as any patients as possible so the fact that she did the exam and explained everything, answered like 4 questions and had ability to introduce herself and make small talk is a miracle and a testament that she's a good doc. I also have to mention that this was the least painful PAP I've ever had, because she actually used the right size equipment, and the most thorough pelvic exam- as in she really pressed against my belly to feel the pelvis vs others that don't go deep enough so they're just pressing on my tummy fat but not past it. read more

A dynamic duo of sisters who I can speak volumes of. I am beyond grateful for their flexibility and most of all their care! Dr. Yu answered all my questions and explained to me what "normal" meant by the other doctors even though it was not "normal" for me. I can go as far as Dr. Yu saving my life! Low iron, low hemoglobin -- she helped me get a diagnosis and I was able to get needed care before my trip. With my very tight schedule she squeezed me in and performed surgery and called to make sure I was doing okay. I had wonderful office interactions as well with the front desk. I'm going to do a two-parter here; About Dr. Yu and her staff... Dr. Yu - AH-MAZING! Although I admired my OBGYN in New York, I needed to find one in L.A. since I recently moved to the area. I was also a few weeks pregnant. My friend had referred her to me so I figured, "Why not? If I don't like her, I can find someone else." At first, Dr. Yu wasn't what I expected. I was used to my OBGYN in New York - a very happy chatterbox. Dr. Yu? Not so much. Don't get me wrong... She was very professional and I never felt rushed with any of my appointments. She would always ask if I had any questions or concerns that she could address (in which case she always did and made me feel at ease). Dr. Yu checked me and my baby out and told me everything was normal. You see, she's the type that would talk (a lot) if something was abnormal. After a few visits, I realized it just took a little time for her (maybe me as well) to warm up. She is very professional and knowledgeable. Everything she had told me about my unborn baby was spot on; gender at 11-weeks, weight, expected due date, even down to the time of delivery! She may not do that with everyone, but she was on point with me. I was very impressed! Staff: Personally, I never had a problem with the staff. They were always nice to me. However, I *think* most of the reviews were geared towards ONE of the four assistants there. She was nice to me, but I can see how others may not like her tone in speaking with patients. Glad to have Dr. Yu delivered my first and only baby. She talked slow and calm and always asked if I have any more questions before ending each visits. I never felt rushed. She's a busy lady that would call me herself on small little things on a Sunday night when I expect a receptionist to do so. She really worked around the clock. I delivered my son at Methodist at 7 am and she's been around since 4:30 am. I did have a smooth pregnancy in the beginning but it turned downhill around the later stage. My baby's neck was wrapped with the umbilicard cord "like a scarf" around a month before my due date. He was a "sunny side up" baby to begin with. If he did get back to the right position, it would be advantageous to my delivery but pose more danger to his neck since the cord may be twisted one more time. Fast forwarded a month later, when I was admitted to the hospital on a 7cm, the contractions would alert the nurses to rush in to my room because my baby's heart rate also went down with it. It was really not the best experience, but I believe during that one hour of pushing, it was Dr. Yu's skills that made me not needing to get an emergency c-section since I was so close to it. Possibly because of the cord, my baby's oxygen had dropped to a point I had to deliver with an oxygen mask (that was before covid). If I remember right, she used her hands to twist my baby back from "sunny side up" back to the right position carefully so I was able to deliver naturally. I was glad to have not went with a medical group, but instead signing up for one good and skillful doctor and received that much needed support/reassurance every step of the way. read more

After meeting Dr. Yu once in June 2013, I would not recommend her. I thought she was supposed to be a good doctor according to everyone's Yelp reviews here, but seriously, when I actually went there, Dr. Yu was so not very friendly. I can tell she knows her stuff. She is knowledgeable, and if you're the type who doesn't ask questions, you'll be in and out of there in no time. However, if you do have questions, Dr. Yu is NOT the doctor to go to. Her behavior shows that she is on a time crunch and treats you like you are just a # and not a human w/feelings. Among all OBGYN doctors I have ever been to though, she is the only one who did a rectal exam on me which is where she sticks her hand up your anus. When I talked to some girl friends about this procedure, many said this was quite strange! So I'm not sure what it is about this "rectal exam." Then when she recommended that I get an ultrasound, I asked her if it was possible if I could go to an imaging center of my choice. She said something to the effect of... "I just need to get the results in a timely manner. If I don't get those results, it's not my fault if something bad happens to you. For example, one of my former patients died from breast cancer, but the imaging center never sent me the results of the patient's ultrasound." So wow... how caring it is for her to say something like that?! So yeah, I'm not going back to Dr. Yu. read more

I, unfortunately, am one of Dr Yu's patients. She gets very annoyed when I ask questions or have concerns. I called last week for simple reassurance and she would not talk to me over the phone. Instead, she made me go through my insurance for a "tel-a-med" phone conversation. This is an example of a doctor who only cares about the money and not one ounce of actual caring for people and their health. I will be changing doctors promptly. So disappointing. read more

I spoke to this Dr. And she is very rude. She is in a hurry to get done with you and is the worst at costumer service. I was trying to ask her questions and it escalated and she turned into this immature person talking over me and raising her voice. It was unprofessional. After reading the reviews on here, I have been trying to see Dr. Yu. I've been trying to get an appointment with her since January of this year and it's currently August and I still haven't gotten an appointment. Everytime I call in, the staff will tell me that her next available day is in 2 months (no joke or exaggeration), so I make an appointment. When the day comes, I'm either on my period or I have to work and have to reschedule again, and that re-starts the clock another 2 month. Here I am 8 month later and still haven't seen her yet. What if I have an emergency? do I need to wait 2 months? I might be dead by then. I'm sure she's a wonderful doctor, will never have the chance to find out! read more

Doctor Yu is truly a professional. I chose her as my OB when I was pregnant because during our first trimester visit she was thorough and straight to the point. She is a busy busy lady and she still made me feel as if I was an important patient. I like that she does not seem emotional and has a calming and stoic demeanor. Throughout my pregnancy, Dr. Yu took the time to make sure my baby was on the right track and that we were equipped for each stage of the pregnancy. During my delivery, Dr. Yu performed an unexpected c section for me. I was more than confident that she would deliver my baby safely and that I would have a smooth and speedy recovery. I love Dr. Yu. Dr Yu is one of the best gynecologists I have come across for the past 25 years. I was having issues for a while experiencing heavy bleeding & very painful menstrual cramps. An ultrasound was done & they discovered a fibroid in my uterus. For over six months several gynecologists were unable to diagnose correctly and did everything BUT help me! They left me in a worse state mentally & with very high medical bills. Dr Yu was highly recommended by one of our friends, and with one visit, she was able to tell me exactly what was going on and what the next step was for me. She Actually CARED about me & took the time to explain everything. We then scheduled a surgery shortly after. It was a 20 minute procedure, she removed my fibroid. Being a patient of Dr. Yu's is like seeing an old friend. I hadn't been to her office in years due to needing services at City of Hope but it was as if no time had passed at all during my visit today. She greeted me warmly and took her time discussing my medical history and concerns she had. She asked me throughout my visit if I had any questions. Dr. Yu is a caring, thorough practitioner. I referred my daughter to her practice and she is currently a patient of Dr. Yu's sister, Michelle (she has rave reviews for her, too). The staff is a rare find, as they are also very welcoming and friendly. The woman at the front desk was just lovely, as well as the woman who took my vitals. It's been almost a decade since Dr. Yu delivered my first child, and now as I'm preparing for my second child, Dr. Yu was the first choice for me as my OB. Even though she no longer accepts HMO, and only takes cash or PPO insurance she is worth it! She is just as gentle, knowledgeable, professional and caring as before. Problem is people now know how great she is and everyone wants her to deliver their babies. Yes, prepare to pay more for a great OB, Im paying cash for office visit until the PPO plan kicks in at the beginning of the year. Yes, prepare to work with the staff, they are bombarded with tons of patients everyday and have high workload. Yes, plan to schedules appointments way in advance, don't expect to be seen last minute, she really doesn't have the flexibility given her time at the office and at the hospital delivering. Suggestion when you see her is to bring a list of questions beforehand, and ask away! She is super knowledgeable. I started going to Dr Yu since the beginning of this year and i love her. she is very professional and kind-hearted. She has done a surgery on me recently and it went very well. Even though she has a "cold" face most of the time and doesn't smile but i can tell she cares for her patient. Every time i did blood work or exam, she would call me personally to keep me posted what is the result and how to proceed without me going into the office. We switched insurance companies just to see this doctor and because the nurse never mentioned it was only for Gyn, we are now have to start our search again for a OBGYN. Was pretty psyched to find an ob gyn with good reviews using my health insurance's ridiculously specific search engine based on my location, plan, and assigned medical group. Not impressed when I called and was told that Dr. Yu does not accept any HMO plans though the information her office has listed with the healthcare provider specifically states that she does. To increase the disappointment in service the office personnel did not state that it was a mistake, a change in services offered previously, and worse yet didn't take action or say that she would take action in updating the information with the insurance provider. Upon calling the insurance provider they state that even though a patient may be told this information only the Doctor's office is allowed to update it. Shame on them for not taking the initiative and being polite about their own mistake in not keeping the office information up to date. read more

If you grew up in a Chinese home like me, where your Mom always went to the doctor with you, you'll know what I'm talking about here. I grew up going to my Mom's family doctor...Chinese of course, so they talked about me more than the doctor talked TO me. His English sucked...my Chinese is not so good...the combination made for a not so good doctor-patient relationship. When it came time to pick an OBGYN, I was so happy when my BFF told me about Dr. Deborah Yu. Of course, this was something I was hiding from my Mom, but I knew if the day ever came when my Mom would need to come with me, it'd be okay because Dr. Yu is Chinese. She's also very Americanized, which is perfect for me. Dr. Yu is very kind and has a way of making you not feel uncomfortable in that very cold room. She takes her time to explain everything and answer all questions you may have. An appointment can be hard to get (I usually call a month in advance). Each time I've gone, I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes past my appointment time...that's certainly a rare thing to find in doctor's offices these days. read more

Really rude office staff. It's a shame b/c the doctor is actually really great. Don't forget to bring cash b/c the office staff will not tell you that they ONLY ACCEPT CASH, even on your very first visit as a new patient. The front office receptionist was unapologetic that no one in the office had told me beforehand. Please, please, please do not forget your cold-hard-cash b/c the nearest ATM is across the street in the Methodist Hospital. It involves having to J-walk (no nearby crosswalks) across the heavily busy 4-lane, Huntington Dr, where cars are going 50mph. It takes roughly 30 mins for a round trip from the doc's office to the ATM and back. At this office, any mistake done on the office staff's part automatically becomes the patient's fault. read more

This review is not for Dr. Yu, but for her poor staff. Dr. Yu is really good one. She is always listen to the patient. Let you feel no rush. And the complaint is for her stupid staff. She is really unprofessional. I called hundreds times to finally got someone to pick up the phone. Because I did feel uncomfortable for some personal issue and request to see Dr. Yu ASAP. And guess what, the staff said, you are not emergency enough. The all spots are full, you have to wait couple of weeks to get the spot. Dr Yu is the best ob gyn I've had. However, her staff are probably the most shittest I've every encountered. Dr Yu is VERY straightforward and very well informed. She is very mono toned though, which I'm sure might not sit well with many people. I might want to try her sister out next year for my next annual exam, I really cannot stand her staff. Location isn't hard to find, if you're traveling south of Huntington, the building is on the right (hospital is on the left side), there is a private lot =) Must make appointments at least a month of advance. Oh course it depends on the urgency, say if you're pregnant, I'm sure they'll rush your appointment.. Don't forget to bring cash! The stupid office staff does not inform you when you call for your appointment. I only know from reading yelp reviews, so I came prepared!! Dr. Yu is a great doctor BUT her staffs are horrible!! Good: Dr Yu is very patient to answer questions and you never feel being rushed! She will even make phone calls herself to patient to give updates and such. No complaint about her at all. Bad: staffs are unfriendly and rude. Today I was about 20 mins late to my appt due to traffic and road block. The staff told me I can't be seen cuz I am more than half and hour late. I told her its not 30 mins yet, and she said its 3 mins to 4pm! ITS NOT!! It's 7 mins!! She is a liar and just gave you lame excuse to cancel your appt. Dr. Yu should seriously replace her staffs!
