This kitschy cantina gives all the vibes of Mexico. Unique architecture & design feels like you're eating in a greenhouse. It's like a greenhouse picnic and it's pretty cool. The food is reminiscent of authentic Mexican street food from the enchiladas to the tacos and everything in between. Loved my tacos and margaritas here! My family was visiting and we have heard great things about De Nada, but did not know we'd need a reservation. We arrived on a weekday for dinner time and was told the wait for an indoor table would be over an hour. We sat outside and once the sun went down it was bearable. The old time patio furniture was very uncomfortable for eating at the table, but we were grateful to have a spot. I have to say the verduras taco is one of my new favorites in Austin. I usually have low expectations for the veggie option, but wow I will go here just to order these! It includes Mushroom Picadillo, Grilled Zucchini, Refritos Negros & Queso Cotija. I also enjoyed my shrimp taco: Molcajete Salsa, Achiote Shrimp, Rajas, Chipotle Slaw, Cilantro & Onion but it only had a few small pieces of shrimp in it. Chips and salsa were great. I enjoyed 2 mezcal margs on the rocks and loved them! I know people say the margs are so super strong here, but maybe it's just the regular ones. The mezcal margs were great, although I didn't feel like they were extra strong compared to usual. My fiance's tacos were unfortunately way too spicy, but he did love his prickly pear margarita. Vibes were very loud & crowded which I wasn't expecting, but i should've as it was a fri night! Parking is a challenge (small lot), but street parking behind the restaurant worked fine. We scored seats at the bar and ordered a Paloma and the El Chingon Marg. Both were strong, refreshing, and perfect for a hot Sunday afternoon. Heads-up: their margaritas are capped at two per person for good reason! The chips arrived warm, served with three distinct salsas--classic red, smoky, and spicy verde. I also ordered their "secret sauce," which packs serious heat. I'd rate it a 5 out of 5 on the fire scale. De Nada also has a very expansive tequila and mezcal list, plus interesting Mexican beers such as Estrella Jalisco a wonderful Mexican lager. I've been to De Nada a few times and always enjoyed it, so this experience was honestly really disappointing. We came in with a group of about 15, and from the moment we sat down, our server was immediately aggressive. Before we could even get settled, he was loudly telling us not to switch seats and speaking to us in a way that felt more like we were being scolded than welcomed. Throughout the night, multiple people in our group noticed that anytime someone moved or asked a question, he made sarcastic or rude comments under his breath. It created a really uncomfortable vibe for what was supposed to be a fun night. The food itself was fine, chips, queso, quac, and tacos were solid, but the service completely overshadowed it. What made things worse was the lack of transparency around gratuity. When I asked, I was told auto-gratuity was 15%, but it was actually 20% on the bill. I even added extra on top of that at the time, which I regret given the experience. And to top it the bathroom situation is a mess. There are only two toilets, and there was easily a 15 person line. We were forced to stand awkwardly next to dining tables while waiting, and other guests were getting annoyed at us for standing there... but there was literally nowhere else to go. Not ideal when you just want to enjoy your night. Food and drinks came quick which I very much so appreciate. I completely understand that large parties can be hard to manage, and we were doing our best to be respectful and cooperative. But there's a big difference between setting expectations and being outright rude. I've had good experiences here before, which is why this was so surprising. I really hope management addresses both the service and the overall guest experience, because no one should feel talked down to or stressed out just trying to find a bathroom. read more

I'm not sure if I've heard so much about De Nada that I had too high expectations or if it was just the experience on the whole, but I would say this was just an OK spot in my book. The parking is essentially non-existent and while there is a street behind it to park on, make sure you have a flashlight or your phone to see your way to / from the restaurant and your car. I made a reservation, which is highly encouraged - but they will hold you firm to your table time limit (even when there is no one waiting to be seated at it). There is a large air conditioner in one corner and it appeared to be leaking fluid as the floor around me was very wet (and more so after my meal than before it started). The queso was just OK in my book - I've had better, but I've also for sure had worse. I ordered the birria quesadilla, which presents more as an empanada (and yes, I know it's the traditional Mexican street vendor way) and was encouraged that I'd want more to eat. I went for the two crispy tacos, which were described as mini street tacos (so I was imagining together they would be the size of one) - but they were standard Old El Paso sized taco shells, so I certainly had more food than I had bargained for - and the tacos were nothing special. Everyone knew about gluten allergies and advised that almost all of the menu (if not all of it) is GF, so I ate freely and without concern. When book club lands on st paddys, the girls met up at de nada. We got mango frozen margs to start and they were strong but delicious. We got on the waitlist for a table and we waited about 1.5 hours, there are outdoor tables you can sit at while you wait for your table. I was skeptical of the food because places with good margs rarely have good texmex food. Maybe i was starving and alittle tipsy or the food is actually good but i munched everything down. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had a reservation for 10 people on a Friday at 7:45 and were seated immediately at a big table outside. The host told us there was a strict 2-hr limit for tables and that we would need to leave by 9:45. The table itself was clean, but the chairs were really rusty and dirty. I was wearing white pants, so I had to carefully select my chair for fear of it literally staining my pants. Service was also pretty slow, and it was a bit difficult to flag down our server when we were ready to order or needed anything. The food itself was ok, nothing out of this world. I ordered 2 tacos, which was the perfect amount, and ate some chips and salsa which we ordered for the table ($9 btw). As far as Mexican food goes in Austin, there's definitely better in town! Parking was hard to come by as the lot was full. We ended up parking on the side of the road outside of the restaurant. At the end of the day, it was a good place for groups, and I liked that they were accommodating to dietary needs (we had vegetarians and peanut allergies in our group).
