    Gyro Sandwich
    ThucDan H.

Such a clean store, we saw workers walking around fix up the lobby every 5 minutes. Cashiers could tell we were first timers right away and offered to help us with the menu. We ended up getting the chicken shawarma sandwich and the gyro sandwich. We also got a side of fries, WHICH WERE MASSIVE!!! The gyro came with a tzatziki, while the chicken shawarma came with a garlic sauce. The chicken was loadedddd with dark meat, could've used more of the pickled veggies tho. Gyro was perfect, good balance between meat, pita, sauce, and pickled veg. If we came back we would definitely get a combo instead of separate sandwich and fries, you definitely get better value that way. I want to try their plates next, I saw some people eating the chopped salad and it looked so refreshing and delicious on their bowls! Casual place where we still felt looked after by staff! 100% recommend!

Still a really great restaurant! I love the lamb tikka sandwich. One of my absolute favorite things on the menu. The falafel is wonderful and well seasoned and just amazing. The service is also good here in fact I think it's gotten better. The ambience is functional and clean. It's well maintained and well lit. Still one of the best middle eastern restaurants in the north Scottsdale area.

    Tractor Lemonade - excellent!

Great vibe and Noam at the counter was a standout -- exceptional service, warm and efficient. Tractor lemonade is a must. Food didn't quite match the Yelp Top 100 hype. Hummus was lovely, but the chicken shawarma was dry, falafel too hard, and fries overdone. Next time I'm going straight for the sandwich! My Middle Eastern food benchmark is Mazra in Redwood City -- extraordinary. De Babel has the bones to play in that league. Hey De Babel team, show Noam this review for extra smiles!

We came here for a late lunch a couple of weeks ago on a beautiful winter day! Their food is definitely top notch and the service was excellent. It was packed inside so that gives you an indicator of how this place performs. We were a little disappointed with the outside seating. We tried 2 tables, both of which were dirty and/or wobbly. We also had to move because there was an awful trash smell from the neighboring business just lingering while we were eating. I know they don't control the trash smell, but the cleanliness was an issue. Hoping that can be addressed by reading this review!

    Tons of food!!!!

The theme of our meal at De Babel was abundance. We ordered two lunch plates; one chicken shawarma and one gyro, each with a side. We were not aware of the large portions, even with the lunch plates here. We ordered a side of hummus with the chicken and the chopped salad with the gyro. My husband commented that the side of hummus was bigger than a tub of hummus you'd buy at the store! I don't know what the green veggie was on top of the hummus, but it was enjoyable. We also ordered a side of French fries that ended up filling the tray our food came on. We both thought the total for the food was a little high after ordering, but that was because we accidentally ordered enough food for 4 people instead of two! We had a ton of leftovers, so we enjoyed the delicious food twice!

Finally got to try the spot that's everyone's raved about and it really is worth the hype! At the table we tried the hummus, the chicken tawook, the schnitzel and the shawarma. Hands down!! The shawarma won. The staff was incredibly nice and they have such a cool vibe in there! Definitely check out the spices that are on sale there as well! Key takeaway: I cannot recommend the shawarma enough! If you're going here get the lunch special shawarma and fries you will not regret it!

This is my go to for Mediterranean food. Its a hidden gem! I like to get the sample platter. It has everything. Stuffed grape leaves, hummus, babaganoush, falafel balls. I've also had their lamb tikka plate which is delicious. Lamb is tender and so flavorful. Their chopped salad is fresh and amazing.

This place has been on my eating list for awhile but I don't get up this way too often but today when I was close by at Gateway Trailhead, we checked around the area and found De Babel was close by and came in for lunch. This place is about as busy as it gets and hard to find a table to sit down at, this is a fast casual place, so you order your food at the counter, take a number and the food is delivered to you. We ordered the falafel lunch plate with Caesar salad, a side of fries and okra. We waited about 15 min and then the food came out. The food here is excellent, everything we tried was good. The prices definitely have been affected by inflation and hard to justify $7.50 for fries but they were good! Falafel very well made and the okra was really good (but also bit more oily than I like). Pita bread was the fluffy poofy ones, my favorite! Overall, a really well executed restaurant and very good Middle Eastern food. I would return when in the area and maybe as a lunchtime splurge as I can't seem to justify $35 for lunch really. Call me a cheapskate but to get all these items at Baiz, it would probably cost less and I would have a few meals for a few days, but hey people got to pay the rent and their employees. I get it.

Vegan review: I've been curious about this place based on all the glowing reviews I've read. We visited on Black Friday, which can always be a challenge for a business in a strip mall, but they were well staffed, and we had no wait in line. The menu was strait forward, but it would help if they indicated which items were vegan. To get a taste of the place, we ordered a falafel sandwich with tahini and schug on the side, plus a side of hummus and a side of rice. All arrived promptly and accurately. The falafel instantly took me back to one I had in Munich years ago. It was the pickle combo of turnips and cucumbers that sent me there! I loved how crunchy it was, and the pita was soft but supportive. No falling apart! If De Babel were closer to home, I'd come back for the falafel. The schug was also excellent - a nice flavor kick! I didn't enjoy the rice or hummus as much. The hummus had a bit more tahini than I prefer, and the rice was plentiful, but a bit bland. Not offensive, just not as great as I'd hoped. Unfortunately I was too full to try the vegan tahini ice cream. Maybe if I'm back in the area I'll give it a try!

What a fantastic surprise this place turned out to be! We decided to go out on Thanksgiving (I know, I know - shocking!) and when almost everything was shut, D-Babel was open... and naturally packed for lunch. It's a very clean, beautifully set-up spot with quick service and a quick turnaround vibe. We ordered the lentil soup, stuffed grape leaves, one chicken shawarma, and one lamb kofta shawarma and in true hungry-on-Thanksgiving fashion, we definitely overordered and ended up taking some to go. No regrets. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the staff was genuinely lovely. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a great Middle Eastern meal. A total gem!

    Chicken Tawook with chopped salad

One of my favorite meals this year and it was $26. The perfect meal is a precisely grilled skewer of meat, a fresh, crispy flavorful salad , with a dip like hummus or raita and a hot fluffy pita bread. Oh man, their pita. It has just the right amount of flavor. Whatever their yogurt dip is - its not sour cream, its not yogurt, its not cream cheese. It's some magical mixture of the three. I could bathe in it.

Superb, delicious, friendly employees. De Babel is my favorite and have been dreaming of their falafels since I had it at a catered event. This was my first time at the actual restaurant and I will say it gets very busy! We came on a Saturday for lunch. The restaurant is very organized and clean. There's plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. We ordered hummus, falafel (a must), chicken tawook and my husband ordered gyro. There's nothing I would not recommend. I just wish it was closer to Gilbert :(

    Jenifer M.

Food was great, place was clean. Very nice staff. Gyro very good. My son got the chicken and loved it. I want to try the tahini ice cream!

Parking is valet only, but since I'm not about that life, I found some parking on the street in a residential neighborhood five minutes away on foot. Ambiance (5/5): Definitely one of the areas in which thea shines. While they have both an indoor and outdoor area, I highly recommend sitting outside on the rooftop. If you do, you'll experience scenic views of the mountains in the background. If you can catch a sunset here, even better. Outside of the views, the restaurant has the fresh decor you would expect from a Mediterranean/Greek restaurant. There's also an outdoor area, and an indoor bar area, if you're just looking for drinks. Service (5/5): Attentive, friendly, and efficient service. Exactly what I was hoping for, especially on my birthday. They were kind enough to hook me up with a dessert for my special day. Much appreciated! Drinks (4.5/5): A full bar with a nice wine list and an interesting cocktail menu. I split a bottle of wine with my parents, but also started off with a refreshing cocktail. Food (5/5): I started off with the flaming saganaki because how can you say no to cheese flambeed table side. Dinner with a little entertainment. If you've never had saganaki cheese, it's a delicious Greek cheese. Pair it with some pita bread and you have yourself a delicious app. From there, I had the grilled skirt steak with crushed potatoes. Naturally, I ordered my steak medium rare. The skirt steak was sliced and cooked perfectly. The potatoes were well seasoned and paired nicely with the steak. All in all, a perfect meal. My parents similarly had great things to say about their selections. Thea isn't cheap. And it does have the see and be seen type of vibe which I'm not a big fan of. Yet, despite all of that, it's an excellent dining experience all-around. While it's more of a special occasion type of spot in my book, I'm definitely looking forward to stopping by again sometime!

But sadly for us, we didn't live anywhere near their original location. So imagine our joy when this location opened a few years later. They are so friendly, talkative, happy and will take you through the menu if it's your first time or repeated trip and want to try something new. I can only image they treat their employees well for everyone to be this pleasant. Food: always amazing, always correct when omitting ingredients for allergies. Massive selection of usual Mediterranean dishes and some great great unique choices. Their lamb is incredible, chops are fantastic but a slightly longer wait to cook; definitely worth the wait. Choices are as massive as their servings. And you can get all the protein choices in plates, bowls, salads or on the side for when you are really hungry. Catering: Nearly every visit we see the staff gathering large container of food for Catering. This never seems to slow down service. Last visit we saw a member of staff counting the food inside the plastic domes to ensure the Catering order was complete. Order food, get a number stand and sit back and wait (not long) for delivery to your table. I'll add here that each time the food is delivered, its with a smile and well wishes. The food and portions are fantastic, they turn hummus into an artwork, they really take pride in their food. My favorite us the Green Corner Mixed grill, I was asked how I would like the meat cooked. Never been asked that before, so I said how do you like it...medium which was extremely tasty... as I am one of those who usually like meat well done. Can't finish, just walk over and pick up togo boxes and bags. One thing that always makes me feel that Green Corner is truly good and authentic food is seeing a number of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean families enjoying their food too. Always a good sign that you have selected a good restaurant. They have a nice outdoor patio and very clean interior. That tiny note is one of the great understatements in Scottsdale dining. What it really means is: bring people you like, clear your calendar, abandon moderation, and prepare for a full-scale feast. Eight of us booked it. At $200 per person before alcohol, and with a wine list good enough to encourage thoroughly defensible excess, this is not a casual dinner. But the first board hit the table and any concern about value disappeared. The charcuterie spread looked less like an appetizer and more like the catering plan for a small celebration: ribbons of prosciutto, mortadella, salami, sweet and spicy sausages, imported buffalo mozzarella, piles of cheeses, fruit, nuts, grilled peppers glossed with olive oil, toasted bread, and a large bowl full of premium Italian cheese made from the milk of Mediterranean water buffaloes - true "bufala." We barely made a dent in it. The single best bite I had all night may have been the simplest: bread, buffala, those peppers, and a generous fold of prosciutto. Salty, creamy, sweet, smoky, rich. One of those bites that shuts down conversation for a moment. Then came the pasta course: huge paccheri, almost obscenely generous, cooked exactly right and coated in a deep, meaty sauce that tasted as though it had been simmering all day for this exact purpose. There were grilled sausages too, plus a warm, fiery n'duja condiment that made an already indecent meal even more indecent. And then there was the arugula salad - simple, sharp, properly dressed, shaved with parmigiano, somehow good enough that later, when we went around the table naming favorite bites of the night, more than one person picked the salad. That tells you something important: this was not just abundance. This was abundance with standards. Then the pig arrived. Whole. Burnished. Beautiful. The skin was the kind of thing people spend years chasing and almost never find: not merely crisp, but shatteringly, absurdly crisp - paper-thin, glassy, almost like caramelized lacquer. Underneath was luscious, fatty, slow-roasted pork that managed to be rich without losing its structure. Put a piece of that skin on top of a little meat and rendered fat and the effect is almost unfair: the greatest pork imaginable riding on the greatest cracker ever made. The potatoes alongside were outrageous - roasted to that perfect point where the edges are savage and the interiors go soft, clearly acquainted with pork fat and every blessing it can bestow. The greens held their own. Nothing on the platter felt like an obligation. Everything deserved to be there. By then the table was already wrecked in the happiest possible way, and yet dessert still came out in what felt like a parade: chocolate - the sticky toffee kind, butterscotch budino, gelati, and more sweets than eight people had any business facing after everything that preceded them. It was excessive, theatrical, and completely in keeping with the meal. The kitchen had chosen its thesis early - pleasure without apology - and saw it through to the end. What made this dinner memorable was not just the scale, though the scale was frankly ridiculous. We all left with full bags of leftovers, each one loaded with containers from different courses, and it still felt as though the meal could have fed another full table. Plenty of restaurants can overwhelm you with quantity. Very few can do it while making each component feel like the best version of itself. The mozzarella. The peppers. The pasta. The salad. The pig skin. The potatoes. The luxurious pudding. Nothing felt like filler. Nothing felt mailed in. This meal felt like Thanksgiving, Easter, a wedding dinner, and a fiftieth anniversary feast all rolled into one, then tightened up by a kitchen that knows exactly what it is doing. It was glorious, yes, but more importantly it was precise. If you have six to eight people who genuinely love to eat, book the whole suckling pig dinner at Virtù Honest Craft. It is one of the great shared feasts I have ever had anywhere. It's my new death penalty meal.
