De Babel is a quick, counter-service spot with a lively atmosphere, especially on a Friday night. We ordered the Chicken Tawook dinner, which came with two sides (we chose hummus and lemon rice). The portions were very generous. The hummus was smooth and enjoyable, and the grilled red onion added a nice touch. The fries tasted fresh, was overflowing, and the pita was large. The lemon rice was a little too tart for our taste, and the Chicken Shawarma had a good amount of filling but was heavy on the pickles. I had to remove some of the filling to enjoy it with the rice to mellow out the flavors. Overall, great service and vibes. It was a decent meal and we're glad we tried it. Arrived around 6:30pm on a Tuesday night and I knew I wanted a chicken shawarma pita and went to order only to find out they were completely sold out of shawarma, man was I bummed. I instead went with the Late Night Chicken pita, it was grilled chicken breast with melted cheese, lettuce, pickles in a pita bread. The pita was good, but not what I wanted and felt more American than middle eastern with the melted cheese. Their It's is fluffy and is stuffable. They make It right there. The desserts were tempting but we will try and save room on our next visit. We did purchase two Dubai chocolate bars that were ok but had to give them a try with all the hue. Also purchased Zara in dry form and dipping form. Exceptional food! I had the chicken schwarma dinner plate. It comes with two sides, and I ordered the chopped salad and the hummus. This is easily the best versions I have tried of all these items. The chicken schwarma was succulent and like chicken carnitas...so delicious. The chopped salad was cucumbers, radishes, tomatoes, parsley and oil and vinegar dressed - extremely fresh and delicious. Lastly the hummus....it was ultra creamy and smooth, great flavor and had a roasted garlic and a chopped pickle center. It was Ah-mazing....easily the best I've had. I'm from San Francisco, and was in town on business - I decided to make the trek based on the reviews. Happy to see way they rate so high. Having been to De Babel many many many times before, I am now able to write the best review possible for this amazing, family owner and operated restaurant. Right when you walk in you are greeted with a warm smile and greeting, usually a "welcome back" to returning customers. I believe the 2 brothers run the kitchen with other family while one of the sons runs the counter. They remember almost everyone that comes in and are genuinely some of the nicest people. The restaurant itself gives the upscale, casual vibe to match the elevated style of classic dishes they serve. Food wise, I always end up getting the Mixed Grill plate with either Fattosh or Tabouleh salad and Baba Ganoush. As a middle eastern person with amazing cooks in my family, I can say with great certainty that the Baba at De Babel is the best I have ever had in my life. Very authentic, smokey, and pure deliciousness. The meats are cooks very well and paired with the warm fresh bread, to die for. There is no shortage of food and the portions are huge. The Mixed Grill says it is good for about 2-3 people but in reality make that 3-4 people who are very hungry. Coupled with the bread and sides you will be very full. Their tahini sauce is also perfectly done. Everything here, no matter what you get is phenomenal and you will not be disappointed. They are generally busy all the time so go whenever but know you may have to wait a little in line to order. For large groups consider taking to-go as there are only a few large tables. Overall, this is one of the best middle eastern restaurants in the Valley and greater Arizona. You must try this spot and trust me, you will leave extremely full but wanting more. read more

Dee-licious Jordanian food! I love that Scottsdale has so many choices of places to eat. De Babel would be one I would consider to be near the top of my list. It's moderately priced, outstanding food, and some beautiful food. You will walk away full, satisfied, and looking forward to more food to eat the next day. It's very family friendly, too. The pita pockets are obviously handmade, thicker than I am accustomed to, and filled with good stuff: your choice of meat, cucumber, tomato, pickle. Several members of our family went with gyros meat. I picked one filled with grilled halloumi. We were all very pleased. The fries are beyond heavenly. Not only are they their own fresh cut potatoes, they are seasoned beautifully. We got two side orders of fries and could not keep our jaws from dropping when they arrived. Super crispy. Huge. One of the orders was the amazing truffle cheese fries. These are beyond reproach. All in all, two orders were more than 6 of us could finish, even though we tried hard. But yes, get them anyway! And definitely bring them home for a second and even a third chance. We ordered a mixed sampler, the Mixed Mezza, a beautiful, generous platter, which came with hummus, baba ganoush, tabouli, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, and pickles. The baba ganoush was so smoky good, the stuffed grapeleaves were moist and flavorful. We added a side of okra that made me giddy. It is stewed with tomatoes, garlic, and cilantro until very tender. I need to remember to cook it that way at home now that I tasted it. The only thing that I regret was not getting to taste the fried cauliflower and their crispy za'atar pita chips. Well, I guess lamb and lentil soup might have to be in consideration, too. I guess that is for when we come back, which indeed we will! read more

Everything was so delicious full of flavor and meat was tender. The pita bread was amazing! It was thicker than others and had a good chew to the texture! Great with all the dips. Before we left, we also ordered some dessert. We tried the Tahini ice cream, baklava and rice pudding. The ice cream was very creamy and had a nutty flavor to it.
