I've come to DC Lash Bar several times to get lash lifts and most recently visited for my first lash extension appointment on April 8th at 12pm with Jenna. As it was my first time receiving lash extensions in general, I didn't know what to expect or what a typical experience would be. However, in the next few days following the appointment, I noticed that when I was brushing my lashes (as recommended by my technician Jenna), several lashes would come out. In addition, the application irritated my eyes and my eyes later became red. Lastly, I noticed that only 7 days after my appointment, over 50% of my lashes had fallen out (see first two images below). Unsure as to whether this experience was unique to me, I received a new set of lash extensions from another establishment to compare lash retention rates. I received my new set on April 26 and just yesterday, I went back in for my 2 week fill with significantly better retention rates (see third image below). From the first lash extension appointment to the second, my behavior and products had not changed. I even used the lash cleanser and brush that was provided to me by DC Lash Bar to clean my lashes for both sets. I paid $345 + 20% tip for this service, which, unbeknownst to me, turned out to be extremely poor quality. When I reached out with my documentation, they refused to give me any refund of any sort for this. I should've done my homework but also $345 for lashes is robbery (all of their other services are overpriced as well) and you can definitely get better service for a more reasonable price elsewhere. Due to the straight and stubborn nature of my eye lashes I have always wanted some kind of a magic fix to make them look long, curled and beautiful. I tired extensions once and found them to be very high-maintenance. Recently I heard about the "lash lift and tint" process (also called "perm and tint"); after talking to a couple of satisfied friends I wanted to give it a try. My friends live in different cities so I was left to find a reputable salon on Yelp. I finally came across "DC Lash Bar"; their high reviews and the fact that they specialize in everything lashes made them the winner. My appt. was with Mei Do. She explained the process ahead of time and told me what to expect. The room is comfortable and provides a relaxing atmosphere. I also liked that it was very clean, because let's he honest, nobody wants any kind of an eye infection! The whole appt. took about 45 from start to finish. UPDATE: the owner called me very apologetic and said she would refund me the full amount. I just had lash extensions done yesterday. Prior to laying down I showed the tech 3 very similar pictures of what I wanted. Fast forward 2 hours and 35 min later, and I wasn't in love with the final result. It looks like I have two giant wings on either side of my lashes, and the middle of my lashes are not full at all. The tech did say she could make them much fuller, but the receptionist came into the room while she was still working to tell the tech that her next appt was here. Since I wasn't in love with the final result and wanted them fuller, I scheduled a correction with the receptionist for the next day. I left feeling like my left eye was hurting and red. It was so red that I used visine before bed. I woke up this morning and my eye is completely bloodshot, and it hurts to blink. I got these done for my husband's birthday party today. I'm unable to wear contacts, and now I may not even be able to attend his party after planning it for months. The appointment started at 12:10 and I didn't leave until 2:40 Ish. I was shocked at the amount of time it took, and still I left feeling like I didn't receive the results I wanted. I believe the receptionist is new, she couldn't figure out how to charge my card. She stepped away to call the owner, and then she told me the owner hung up on her? I had to leave so she made me sign a blank piece of receipt paper saying she could charge my card. When I booked the appt, it charged my card for half the service. When I checked my email today, they billed me for a full set. So $630 total. (I'm sure they will reverse this, just letting everyone know about my experience.) I've emailed the front desk asking for a manager to call me. I got a Brow Lamination, Wax, and Tint with Jenna. She asked if I wanted to thread my eyebrows instead, I said yes. I did not know that meant she would take her mask off to cut the string with her teeth!!! The text messages from her phone beeped nonstop during my appointment. Since I'm laying on the table and she's leaning over me, the phone in her pocket which is right next to my ear and incredibly loud and distracting. My brow lamination didn't look like what I expecting. I was surprised the perm was in for only 5 minutes. The look afterwards was not the same look I see on everyone else. I followed directions and didn't get it wet for 24 hours. The next day you couldn't tell I had anything done except my brows were hard to touch as if I had gel in them. read more

Shayla was really nice but I'm a very light blonde and asked for a very very subtle tint on my brows since they're also very blonde (I even showed pictures of what I wanted). The wax shape is great (besides having some burn marks but I'd take that over the tint issue) but my brows are actually dark brown borderline black. Multiple rounds of tint remover didn't do anything so now I'm stuck with it until it fades. I also got an eyelash lift and they're curled so much that they're basically turned back towards my eye, making them look really short?? I also dislike when lash techs don't tint the bottom lashes but that's on me for not specifying I wanted that. Overall not happy with the service :( read more

Nightmare experience. Summary: I was close to having an anxiety attack three hours into what landed up being a FOUR hour nightmare - lashes took FOUR hours to get done! If the result was good at least that would be something but lashes are so sparse I look like I have thin spider lashes. I woke up with both eyes red, but one eye bloodshot and hurting. Everytime I look in the mirror I want to cry. In my decade of getting lash extensions, this is my worst experience. I have been doing lash extensions for close to a decade, including at DC lash bar when I am in DC, and I have NEVER had such a bad experience. My regular technician was not available but I was assured by the owner, Stephanie, that the one she was assigning me (Hiva) was 'a little slow' but good. I told her that if H wasn't good just to let me know as I had an important work trip over two weeks coming up and I had to make public appearances. Stephanie and another male receptionist when I called later assured me H was good. H was nice enough and tried, but clearly she hasn't been given the requisite training. Rather than just warning me about that, DC Lash preferred to make a quick buck. Close to three hours into my appointment, H hadn't even finished one eye! By this time, the small, stuffy back room they had assigned me felt like it was closing in on me and I could not breathe. The front desk staff (Amanda who was the only saving grace of this episode) led me with my eyes closed (since we were so far from done) to another room. I asked why a better ventilated room wasn't assigned to me in the first place since there were several rooms and I was the last one there. They (Amanda and a male receptionist) responded that they didn't think another room was available when I came. It was clear that I was suffering what was close to feeling like an anxiety attack, and I begged them to ask my regular therapist to finish up the other eye as she had been in when I arrived. They said that she had left and 'would not come back for me'. The male receptionist had the temerity (which he later conceded was wrong) to ask me why I hadn't informed them that I would require removal of my original extensions at the outset. I said that when I had booked with Stephanie, I told her my lashes were last done more than three weeks ago, in another country, before moving to the US. I had also not done my lashes at DC Lash for about two years. It was obvious from the context I would need extension removals, and if it was not and they needed to know this, that Stephanie should have asked. In any event, even with extension removal an appointment should not take FOUR HOURS. For my pains, I was presented with a bill of $300, which I would have paid happily if I were satisfied with the result or the experience. Both, however, were AWFUL. When H finally finished, the result was hardly worth four hours. It was very poorly done. There was a gap on the left outer third and the right eye, which she had to add to. She had also not lashed to the outer end of my eyes, or had used such short lashes they could not be seen, so my eyes look smaller than they actually are (they are large). I had told her I didn't want an exaggerated cat's eye, and to use slightly shorter lashes at the end. However, not lashing or lashing using negligible lashes demonstrates an unawareness that the outer edge matters for the size of eyes - something any trained eyelash technician will know. I kept telling H she needed to add extensions at the end, but she said nothing could be done, and after three attempts at asking her to address it and her looking clearly like she had maxed out her capacity, I stopped asking. I woke this morning with both eyes red but one eye in particular is bloodshot at the bottom half and hurts when I blink. I am also upset each time I look in the mirror. I am very upset that even though I told DC Lash that I had an important work trip, they didn't take this seriously and saw fit to assign an inadequately trained technician just to make a quick buck. Now I have - wasted four hours in the salon - wasted 45 minutes writing this review - I was contemplating whether to write it but I am so upset that I am I am also having to waste further time look into getting my lashes redone or fixed, though they are still red and sore. Of course, the owner of the salon has not reached out to apologise (not that that would really help since I will never get my time back and I am not sure what to do with such ghastly flimsy looking lashes), but that is simply courtesy. read more

Got my lash extensions done here a week ago by a really great technician and I loved them so much! they were not too dramatic, literally perfect length and curl and everything! Also loved how soft and lightweight they were, didn't feel heavy at all. But as each day went by, more and more of my lashes fell off. I've been getting them done for a while back in Texas for a good price and they stay for at least 2 weeks before I need a refill. Barely a week has gone by and most lash technicians would say I would need a new full set. A full set for hybrid lashes here is $345 (we are in d.c and I'm willing to pay, I know I'm not in TX anymore) It could've been my own lashes or the fact that I have oily eye lids too. They also offer complimentary lash removal if you get them done there so I'll be back to get them completely taken off. The process was painless and the results fantastic. 5 stars for Huyen--highly recommend. The technician--Jenna Luvsandavaa--who performed my daughter's lash lift was nice but not skilled. She got a significant amount of the various solutions in my daughter's eye when pulling on her lashes. The results were disappointing; her lashes on one eye are basically bent backwards rather than curled up. They have a very immature scheduling process. I was scheduled for a brow shaping and henna brow. The technician only scheduled me for a 30 min slot for both services? When I was 10 minutes late, they called to cancel on me after I traveled all the way to Georgetown from Shaw, $40 uber. How about next time you don't cram your appointments together so that you can honor the typical 5-15 min grace period like every other reputable salon, and actually have time to complete the service. How are you completing 2 services and performing the required COVID after-cleaning and COVID prescreening in 30 minutes? This isn't my first run in with this salon either. I had the lash service done last year. Although the technician promised that her products were irritant-free and all-natural, she must have applied them wrong because I had to come back the very next day to get them removed due to them viciously irritating my eye. And the lash tech had an attitude about it. Their customer service is very bad compared to other places I've been to in the area. Not worth the commute. A few days later, I went to another spa for the exact same service and it took nearly 2 hours. Let me start by saying that I've been getting my lashes done consistently over the past 3 years. I took about a month break from extensions and decided to give DC Lash Bar another try- I first came here years ago and had a good experience, I thought they were very careful during the application and the studio was beautiful and clean. Since then plenty of other lash places popped up in DC whose prices were significantly better- I'm talking half the price- so I went to them over the years. Recently I decided I was sick of shady basements and back rooms of salons and that I'd be willing to pay double for a nice, established, honest business. So here I am back at DC Lash Bar. I can honestly say this the worst my lashes have ever looked. Where do I begin- first of all my eyes look totally different with different length lashes and shape, the lashes are going every which way, there is glue everywhere that I've been trying to pick out with tweezers, and the cherry on top is that she ripped off the tape on my eyelid which ripped my skin off then proceeded to put her fingers that had hand sanitizer on them which caused such painful burning that I literally sprinted out of there. 2.5 hours and $290 later, I am home with tweezers and scissors trying to cut and pluck to salvage them before the wedding I need to go to in 2 days. EDIT: The owner Josie kindly reached out and scheduled me for correction with her (Josie) at their newly opened Arlington location. When I arrived, the front desk staff said someone else (not Josie) would do my corrections. I was surprised and disappointed since I was not notified before I arrived and I thought that if I had known I would've scheduled another time when Josie was actually there. HOWEVER, I decided to clarify with the technician who was going to do my corrections, and she called out Josie from another room, so I was able to do my correction with Josie as scheduled (thank god). Pro: - Very satisfied with results as of half a day after the appointment. We'll see if it will be like what other people said (that the lashes fall out very quickly) - Very good and friendly customer service. Josie asked me to check my lashes a couple times and waited very patiently while I was picking out the differences between my left and right eye (versus during my last appointment, I feel very rushed). She re-fixed my left lashes twice after I wasn't satisfied with how they looked in the mirror after her first attempt. - She kindly apologized for not seeing how my eyes were different at first. If she saw it earlier then she would have adjusted the length and curls of the 2 eyes more. Con - relating to point 2 and 3 above, isn't it best practice to inspect how the client eyes are, do the design of how the lashes should look, and then actually put the lashes on - made me panic by assigning me to another technician without notifying me before I arrived Overall - I guess this lash bar is more expensive than other lash bars you can find in the area because of the excellent service. I just called to discuss an issue I had when I was there last Weds. Lash cleanser was squeezed directly into my eye and I've tried to be patient as I didn't want to complain but I'm still having issues with my left eye tearing up after this happened last week. I called about 2 mins ago and said "hi this is _____, I'm calling because I was there last Wednesday and had an issue," and the person replied "OKAYYY" laughed and hung up. Is this a joke? I have been a client of lash bar since moving to DC last year. I've had many lash perms done that usually come out well, and if not they offer for you to come in and have it fixed. I recently decided to try eyelash extensions and the experience hasn't been great. I was incredibly careful the first 48 hours after the initial application as it's so expensive I wanted to do everything I could to preserve the lashes. Despite this- I was shocked how many lashes fell out the first few days. When I called I was told I could come back in and "this happens sometimes" but I explained I didn't want to have to pay for two ubers again to fix the service so they agreed to 15% of my next fill. The next time I came in I asked Shauntice what She thought could have happened- She said it must have been the glue, and that the day I came in She was "out of the good glue" so perhaps that's why they didn't last long/well. I'm happy to pay more for a good service- but for what they charge I have no idea how they think it's okay to proceed with doing peoples lashes with the "bad glue" and hoping they don't fall out quickly and charging the same price as when the "good glue" is used. Also- the second time I came back I mentioned cleaning my lashes twice a day. Shauntice asked why I would do it twice a day and said I only need to do once. I explained the woman at the front desk told me her "secret" to them lasting longer is washing them twice a day. Again, for the cost of extensions it would be nice if DC lash bar could at least offer consistent instructions on how to care for your lashes. Lastly, when I went in last week for a fill with Lauren it was a disaster. She immediately squirt cleanser directly into my eye- not on a cotton round but squirting into my eye. I immediately said it burned and asked what happened and She apologized, went downstairs then came back up and told me the front desk was waiting for me. It made me feel as if I did something wrong for being startled and upset that cleanser was shot into my eye. Eventually they had Adriel do the fill and She was wonderful- but a week later my eye is still incredibly irritated. I am so dissatisfied with my eyelash extensions, I scheduled a removal immediately after my appointment at DC Lash Bar concluded. Jenna applied my lashes and in fairness, she is quite talented and personable. I would recommend her if you are looking for a full/robust set of lashes; she has great attention to detail. Unfortunately, there was a massive break down in communication. I emphasized no fewer than five times, and clarified before and during the process, that I wanted natural looking lashes. On the website, their description of 'Natural' lashes aligned with the look I was going for and I quite incorrectly thought this was what was going to be applied. Our consultation period was brief and throughout Jenna assured me, "yes, these will look natural." When I opened my eyes, a full Classic lashes had been applied and what I received is exactly the opposite of what I wanted; large, overly curled, unnatural looking lashes. Sure, many of these lashes will fall out, I've been told; but there is nothing natural about the curl and length of these things - I am embarrassed to take off my sunglasses in public right now. I look ridiculous. I expressed my dissatisfaction over the phone - the front desk person was incredibly apologetic - but there was very little that could be done for me since I am leaving town for my wedding (hence the extensions). I was fortunately able to schedule an eyelash removal at another location so that I do not have these eyelashes on for my wedding day. Mai is the best! I've had several lash lifts and tints elsewhere and my lashes have never lifted and if they have, it never lasted more than a couple of days. I went to DC Lash Bar and Mai did a lash lift and tint and it lasted for 5+ weeks. I've also gotten a brow lamination and tint with Mai and it was perfect! Came to get my lash lift and tint and left happy! Prices are extremely competitive (but I'm from CA so to be fair everything is pricier there when it comes to beauty services). I will say honestly that the tint is negligible for me so I would probably skip that the next time. Josie was friendly and gave me visitor tips for the area, and made sure to explain the process thoroughly. Do note you will probably lose a couple of eyelashes in the process, but that is normal. When I got home and checked the mirror, I had two eyelashes in my eyes (that had gathered in the corner) and one floating around on my nose. The venue is gorgeous...the decor and feel is like what you would get from one's home, and everything is white, which gives you a sense of pureness! I walked in and immediately felt at peace. **UPDATED REVIEW!!** I have changed my rating from 4 to a strong 5 stars because of Shauntice Skye. She is OUTSTANDING and actually makes the high price worth it! Here's why: * she does not blind clients while applying tape to the lower lashes. Rather than shine the lights in the eyes, the area remains dim so eyes will not tear. She is the ONLY lash person I've experienced that operates this way; * she places a towel on your head/hairline. Since she's resting her hands on the head as she works, this makes a huge deal. It eliminates the possibility of getting lashes, glue, or anything in your hair. It serves as a great workspace for her. * she's about her business. She's fast and gets the job done. This is the first time that I've made my next appointment while checking out; and the most I've ever tipped anyone for doing my lashes. She is awesome. I intentionally delayed this review, as I wanted to see how my lashes performed. The 4-star review is not because of the results (Jenna and her work really are 5-star) but because I cannot understand the high price tag. I am all about paying for good service and spend way too much on my personal upkeep. That said, not sure why a hybrid fill is $220. Historically, I am an every 3-week fill type chic so this place may be cost prohibitive. PROs: * Jenna was extremely personable and made me comfortable. I like that she creates a map of how and what lashes she'll apply before starting. She gentle, fast and did a stellar job! * The entire place (beyond Jenna's room) is clean and as expected bases on the services offered. * The front desk staff were pleasant and answered all of my questions. * DC Lash offers online booking. CONs: * Jenna explained that her room could get warm so she worked to make me comfortable by keeping her door partially open. This is NOT Jenna's fault (the warmth), just a factor about her room. * Because the door was partly open, the happenings in the hallway were front and center, taking away from any attempts to relax. I would guess that for the first hour, someone (another professional who works for DC Lash) was on the phone trying to schedule spa-type services for herself (maybe?) and someone else (definitely). I heard her ask a lot questions about the services the place offered before deciding on what to book for her friend. It was reallllllly distracting. * Cost. As mentioned, $220 is high and COULD be worth it if DC Lash did some of the small niceties that make a place stellar. I suggest that clients get a little mesh bag filled with maybe 2 lash brushes; maybe a small sample of the lash shampoo they sell; etc. Offer all clients bottled water. Maybe offer mimosas on weekends or a glass of wine during week day evening appointments. Do SOMETHING that would make someone say - the cost is worth it...having a Georgetown address is just not enough...by the way, Arlington prices are the same so there's that... In all, I am a Jenna fan and would hesitate to book with someone else in DC Lash (the front desk folks explained that only some of the service providers do hybrid). I've been given other places to try since telling friends about the cost...we'll see though. Ok - so the prices are pretty insane to me (why is DC terrible in this regard?), but someone IS gluing tiny hairs one-by-one to graft them onto your existing lashes for about 1.5 - 2 hours... so, i'm not going to exactly cut corners in this area. I've gone once. after talking about my look, i lay down and fell asleep to a beautiful new look that really blew my mind! i tend to not mess around w/my eyes (sleep flat on my back, don't move, don't have contacts), so they ended up lasting 6 weeks. By around 8 weeks, I looked weird b/c of the random lashes that jutted far beyond the rest of my lashl ine. I also, to be honest, was relieved to not have to feel them. After that period of time (and i'm a picker, so that's just me), I just got annoyed at the very slight sensation of the mink. I could feel them and I could see them in my peripheral vision... prices make it an easy choice to not maintain this look here, but I'll def. try their services again for my next big major event. read more

I'm writing this because I felt the need to talk about how Mai Do has been consistently good at applying my eyelash extensions. She now works at the Georgetown location but the first time I met her was actually at the Arlington location. The first time I met her, I wanted a classic full set and she was really patient with me when I addressed all my concerns. Since I've never had extensions done before, I was worried it would cause me to have eye styes as I'm prone to that but she assured me that nothing like that will happen. She went through a couple things with me and she also explained how she would apply the lashes according to the shape of my eye since everyone's different. The entire process was painless and it went really smoothly and the result was absolutely amazing. My lashes came out perfect, it was exactly the look that I was going for. I've since upgraded to hybrid extensions and I've been going back every 2 weeks since then but that's only because I take really hot showers and you're not supposed to do that when you have extensions as they fall off way quicker. If you wanna do that, then you need to buy a pair of goggles, which I'm not really a fan. I got natural lashes for my wedding this weekend because I'm a cryer and didn't want to be worried about mascara running down my face. The location is easy enough to find in Georgetown. I booked an early appointment during the weekday and parking was very easy. I found a spot pretty much right in front of the store. You do need to pay for street parking though. The inside of the store looks like HGTV walked through. Whoever designed the store needs to come to my house. Send me a DM, I need interior design help. Shauntice did my lashes and they are PERFECT. I've gotten so many compliments about how natural they look. Even my nail lady was impressed (not an easy feat). The entire process took 1.5 hours. I was worried about laying there for hours with my eyes closed with nothing to do but to lay there with my inner thoughts but Shauntice played music, chit chatted with me, and when I fell asleep at one point she just let me sleep. It's a splurge for me but it's been very nice waking up with beautiful lashes. Now I know how the Instagram models do it!!! read more

My technician's name was Huywen, and she was absolutely wonderful. We took a few mins to talk about what I liked, what I wanted, my fears, and answered all of my questions. This was my first time getting a lash extension, and I had never worn falsies before. My fear was that I would leave the salon looking like the (albeit adorable) Snuffy from Sesame Street. I also have monolids, with no eyelid crease, due to my Asian heritage and was worried that if applied incorrectly, the lashes would scratch my eye. I am so, so happy with my result. Huywen has years and years of experience doing lashes and general cosmetic, beauty, and skincare. Went to DC Lash Bar in preparation for my wedding. Big Day/High Expectations. When I was shown my lashes ~ EEK ~ they were crooked, clumpy & different lengths. $300+ was the cost A week later I returned, as many had fallen off. They looked a lot better. More volume and straighter. Later that evening my right eye started tearing & burning. Yep, you guessed it. A clump of lashes fell off. I'm guessing the glue was the cause of the burning sensation. On a whim, I decided to try lash perm/lift and tint. Side note, I decided to do this over extensions due to the low maintenance. The studio itself is super cute and cozy. The only appointment available on the same day, was with Mai and I am sure glad she was my lady! She was welcoming and so sweet. I told her it was my very first time getting something like this done, so she walked me through each step and made me feel really comfortable through the entire 30 minutes. It's painless, but just expect slight discomfort since someone is working directly with your lid/eyelashes. This review is for a lash lift. First I had to wait 30 minutes because the person before me came late (they were nice enough to give me a discount for waiting so long). My lift was fairly quick since I was the last customer. After the lift I did notice that one of my eyes was more lifted than other and now after having them a week I can tell that one of my eyes is curled and the other one is flat which is disappointing. I was the last customer for the day so I feel like the tech probably just rushed thru it. Would I get a lift again- yes but at this place? Probably not. I am disappointed but I would recommend trying it for anyone who has straight stick lashes like me. Update: apparently if you're unhappy you have a 5 day guarantee so I went back and got mine corrected and they look even now. I hope they stay this way. read more

When I need a spray tan for an event, this is hands down the only place in the city that I'll go. Ruby is excellent and really takes her time to ensure I am happy before I leave. The quality of the spray machine is great and even heats as it sprays, so you're not naked and freezing in a room :) the color of the tan is very natural too, and not at all orange. Just a very natural bronzey tan. The place is very clean and decorated nicely. You feel like you're walking into a tidy little home. The staff is also extremely warm and welcoming. I have never had lash extensions before, but if I ever do, I will certainly come here. The last time I went, Ruby was not available and my tan was a little patchy and the color a bit uneven, but aside from that I have been very happy with my results. I decided to try lash extensions to see if I could get them every 3 weeks or so instead of messing with eye makeup. My experience with DC Lash Bar wasn't awful - people were polite, things seemed safe etc. - but it's been stressful and not something I want to repeat. I had two appointments, the first for a natural half set, and the second a week later to add lashes to move up to a classic set. I was early for both appointments, but they both started in quite a rushed way because the technicians had to run around the building trying to find brown lashes. The first appointment I made online and then called to confirm they could do brown - they said yes, but then the tech wasn't sure they had them and had to go hunting. The second appointment I made over the phone and repeatedly explained I would need brown lashes - but that didn't get communicated to the tech and she also wasn't sure they had them and also had to go searching. With my first half set, I only saw lashes fall out when my natural lashes shed (so they were still glued together) which is to be expected. Still, one of my eyes had a few lashes kind of group together and it just didn't look great after a week. I hoped moving up to a classic set would give me enough that I could go 3 weeks, but it's been two days and I've lost *so* many. I'm incredibly careful, but they're just falling out without my natural lashes - I woke up with 7 on my face the day after I got them done, and have noticed losing them multiple times during the day. I imagine I could ask to get them fixed...but I'm pretty over this experiment. Eye makeup is starting to seem like less stress by comparison! read more
