I came here this week because I failed an emissions test and was recommended this place. I spoke to Manny and he worked with me on payment and gave me his word (which he confirmed the owner agreed with). I come back the next day to pick up my car after the payment deal was agreed on and implemented and Vanessa had a snarky attitude claiming that this deal I made with manny (and again confirmed with the owner) didn't exist. I asked if she could please reach out to manny as I was here yesterday and spoke to him and she did and he lied and said our deal wasn't what we agreed on. First-time experience: excellent service for an oil change. I called ahead to ensure they would be able to service my vehicle since it's a European make. They confirmed and assured me the filter was in stock. At check-in, they quoted my wait time for half an hour and sure enough delivered. When I expressed concern about one of my fog lights turning off/on, they replaced both bulbs - no more blinking light sensor. I would really be hesitant in taking your vehicle to David's Auto. They put new brakes, rotors, pads etc. on my ML 350 last year. I paid for OEM Mercedes parts and a year later I had to change everything out. I went to a different mechanic. Didnt want to deal with the head ache. I They charged me $750 so I had to eat that. The gave me after market rotors so they ripped me off. Charging me for OEM parts and putting on garbage. My brother took his mazda 3 to them and they ended up stripping the bolt on the oil tank and stripping a few of his lug nuts on his wheels. I woudnt trust this shop at all. read more

This was my second consecutive oil change with them, which unfortunately will also be my last. They didn't replace the push gasket when they changed my oil. I called them two days later after I noticed oil all over my driveway. They were nice enough to come pick it up a half block away at my house right away, fix the issue within an hour, then return my car. They also attempted clean the oil off the driveway which was nice. My issues are: 1- they didn't replace a part that clearly needs to be replaced on every oil change the first time, 2- they never once offered an apology or discount for the inconvenience, 3-the pretended as if this was a normal occurrence and they had no way of knowing this would happen, and 4- they didn't offer me a refund or discount on my next service in return for my continued business. I'd give them one star but they did clean my driveway without me having to ask. I'll take my car to VW to have them inspect everything just bc I feel like they can't be trusted to not cut corners, especially when they were in the wrong and seemed very displeased that I even confronted them. I'm not a hard to please customer at all, I just expect that simple jobs like this are done correctly and consistently. Also, if you're wondering, my car is a 2017 Volkswagen GLI with low miles. I had a 07 GLI before for 10 years and I never had this happen to that one, even after the 275,000 miles I put on it. read more

I don't have any capability issues here. I've only come here for oil changes and the service has been fine. David's seems to be a straightforward automotive shop with the usual repair / maintenance abilities. The staff is there to do a job and the prices seem reasonable. Things To Watch For: This small shop has an equally tiny parking area. Usually you'll pull up to the large door for access or you'll park on the street and walk in to arrange service. They're fairly busy, so if you require a moderate to serious repair, call ahead and make yourself informed so you know what to expect. Cons: If you have difficulty making a payment, I've overheard the staff attempt to sign customers up with financing through Synchrony. As a consumer, you should know that's always going to cost more than it's worth. Only issue I have is that David's doesn't have a private office to take your sensitive info over the phone so customers in the waiting area can hear everything if the staff has to repeat your SSN back to you. read more

I was referred to David's Auto by a friend and I think they deserve 5 stars for the work they did, but I had a terrible experience getting my car back: My heater and A/C stopped working so I went in to get it fixed. They initially estimated nearly $700 because they needed to rip out the dash to replace the parts.. about five hours of labor. Since it's almost winter, I decided to fork up the money. This was at 1pm and they close at 5pm, but the front desk told me they would call me by 5:30pm when the car was ready for pickup. I waited around my phone the rest of the day for their call. At 5:18pm I called them to get the status. No one picked up and the voicemail box was full. I called again and again without any luck. Finally I was able to get a lift to the auto shop, only to find everything closed. I needed my car that night and I had no way of getting it back! The next morning I had a flight to catch, so I called them promptly at 7am when they opened but, again, no answer. I eventually got a hold of someone and took an Uber there right away. The front desk first argued that she checked the caller ID and said I called at 5:30 pm. I showed her my phone to prove that I called earlier. Regardless, they were supposed to call me before locking my car in the shop for the night. I got some apologies for the miscommunication and they offered a free oil change for my next visit. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be going back. read more

I work in the tri-Taylor area, and have reached out to a few chain mechanics, most commonly Goodyear on Western and Ogden (who are typically jerks and waaaay over priced). David's Auto got me in on the day of for a tire change and a tire patching. I was quoted almost double at other mechanics, but David's was reasonable and very sweet while taking care of the work. They even topped off my fluids and helped out with another minor issue at no cost. Great people, great business. I would highly recommend them if you're in the area! read more

Unbelievably reliable! Having to get any work done on a vehicle is just the worst! Especially for a Mercedes Benz SUV! Most places do their best to hassle you for more money. What makes matters worse for me is being an easily impressionable girl (especially when it comes to cars), my old auto repair shop would add a countless list of extra bells and whistles and I would end up getting pressured to pay close to $300 for an Oil Change and end up having to come back for more, NEVER AGAIN! David's Auto is the place to go! Today's Oil Change was quick and easy; I even came in all by myself and got everything that I wanted and nothing more with ZERO BULLSHIT! Dropped off my car this morning, they were clearly very busy, I got the call to pick up within the next hour. I paid $74 and I'm still shocked, I was ready to pay at least $200 based on my previous experiences with my Old Repair Shop! Today wasn't my first visit, my engine light was consistently switching on/off a few months back and my old repair shop told me to ignore it and that nothing was wrong and even turned me away twice... David's Auto went above and beyond to find out what was wrong and honestly took care of the issue. They were totally informative and honestly looked out for my best interest! Dealing with them is so easy and what's more amazing is driving away and knowing everything is ok! David's Auto gets the job done! read more

I usually loathe taking my car in for repairs of any kind because, unfortunately, I have "gotten got" in the past by the ridiculous, pocket gougers who see a woman and automatically assume you're ignorant to cars. Therefore, they proceed to tell you about the bazillion dollars worth of repairs that you must get or you're pretty much going to die a horrible death the next time you attempt to step foot in and drive said vehicle. This shop, they aren't those guys thank goodness:). My experience with Tony and the staff was quite delightful. I came by after work to get my car's air conditioning checked out. As I pulled in, he noticed my brake light was out, as well. I was out in and out in about 45mins with recharged air and a new brake light bulb. All for a very reasonable price. Easy peasy. Tony was very easy to deal with and was just a picture of what customer service should look like. He was friendly without making me uncomfortable and clearly explained what they needed to do for my air conditioner. I would definitely recommend them if you need repairs. read more

This place is such a scam! Their prices are ridiculous and we've had to return the car on multiple occasions AFTER issues had been "fixed" since problems still ensued! We had to go to a separate mechanic who stated whoever had previously worked on the car did a crappy job which ended up costing us an arm and leg. Never again. read more

I took my Jaguar in for coolant level low fault! They replaced my thermostat and housing unit! It had been replaced 4 months prior! I took the old thermostat to the dealership, they told me the housing unit had been broken on purpose! Well 4 days after being fix, the low coolant level light came on again! The air didn't work, (when I turned my air on and stepped on brakes the car would shake) and when I turn the heat on my car would over heat) this place is a scam! They replaced a perfectly good thermostat with a off brand! Sitting here waiting for them to fix what the messed up! They're telling another guy the brake job he had four months ago what never done and he need brakes and rotors! I wouldn't even recommend an oil change from this place! read more

Great service! Very accommodating! Fair prices! Tony treated me incredibly well. I'm originally from Minnesota where my dad owns his own auto shop. Since he's always worked on my cars I'm incredibly weary of letting anyone else handle my vehicle. I had a leak in a hose before I was to drive back to Minnesota for Christmas and Tony made sure that I got in and out within a day so my trip would not be delayed. Quoted very high price, ripped me off, very unprofessional. Other Mechanic: Colon: 8726005894 quoted me 35% of the charge for the same problem when I sent him pictures and details. Problem was brake fluid leak. He told will take a lot of time because he dint want me to be there while he fixes a simpler problem and tell me how difficult it was. He quoted 360$ while the other mechanic quoted 160$ for the same work. On knowing this within 10 minutes I also asked him to cancel the fix, to which he told HALF of the work is done and he can't go back. Date : 26th March 2018. Don't come here. I was looking for a place last minute that could work on my car on a Saturday and they did without a hitch. They were kind and helpful in explaining everything and even though they closed at noon they continued to work on my car until it was finished at 2:30p. After being stuck at BP @ VanBuren/Ashland for 2 hours with my overheating Suburban , searching my phone for help, I was referred to David's Auto by another shop. With a child needing to be picked up from camp and a genuine concern I might not make the 1.2 mile drive to David's, I called to see if they could help me out. I made it and the diagnosis was easy but the part wasn't... fortunately for me, quick thinking and experience prevailed. They offered a solution to get me on the road safely, in time to pick my youngest up from camp armed with the knowledge of what will need to be done to correct the problem completely but with a little flexibility and time to do it. Since the adapter and hose weren't readily accessible, they cut both hoses, connected them to loop the coolant thru my engine, BRILLIANT! Only downside is that I won't have heat in my car on this 90+ degree July day in Chicago...bummer!!! As a small business owner myself, I realize anyone can leave a bad review but taking the time to leave a good one doesn't happen often enough, we're all just too busy. Great mechanics. Knowledgeable, communicative, and very thorough. Had a timing belt and water pump go out on me, and took it to the dealership; quoted $1200. No way. Took it to David's, and for a completely thorough inspection, diagnostic, and thorough explanation of what needed to be done, it was $543 out the door. On top of that, they did testing and re-testing of the engine to ensure it was good for the road. Moreover, they detailed what else might be something to look out for going forward, as my car is 2004 and has 240,000 miles...but still runs great. Blown away by David's Auto. Take your car here.
