horrible place for brakes. i was working at e&r towing which is a sister company of "xpert" to make a long story short they are thieves. this is now my 3rd time my brake lights are on after sending my car to these losers and i barely drive my car and it hasnt even been a whole year since they "fixed" the problem. The first time i sent my car they were paid to put in new brake lines new everything, these bums did nothing so one day as im driving with my son in the car im coming to red light as i hit the brakes they completely go out on me and I somehow manage to miss cars in front of me. I called my supervisor at the time and explained to him his idea of sending my car to xpert was a horrible idea i almost killed me and my son thanks to these idiots. That was the first time the second time in a few months my brake lights comes on again only to find out for the same reason. these guys are professional scumbags read more

I need to state that I drove 57 miles to get to this shop, purely because I found them on Groupon last night, 57 miles I look forward to driving as long as a have vehicles that need repair. Sam and his staff are the best auto shop I have ever been to. They care about the customer, their customer's safety, and they understand that a happy customer will become a repeat customer. My car parts are special, this business man went to buy my special parts and did not charge me a lot to fix a problem I didn't even come in for. They wanted me to be safe and ticket free. Amazing. I went to a shop-which-will-not-be-named to ask them to change out my burned-out headlight, and got a very confusing description of how "something" was broken, the mechanics weren't sure what the problem was, the bulb wasn't the right kind for my car, a bunch of stuff might need to be replaced, etc. Came to Xpert because they happened to be open, and was told that the only thing wrong was that the clip holding the bulb in was broken, so the bulb was loose. The bulb wasn't even burned out. Quick fix, and I was back on the road. Friendly, competent people. Highly recommend. read more

I have a 32-year-old car I drive only in the summer. It totally died on Elston Avenue about 200 yard from Xpert Auto Service. I walked into owner Sami's office and said "Help". First we were focused on getting a tow truck. But then he carried a battery charger/jumper to the car and we got it started. Drove it to his shop and he diagnosed that my battery had gone so dead over the winter that it was not accepting a re-charging from the alternator. Put in a new battery, and I was good to go. He solved what looked like a calamity: a dead car on the side of the street. Could not have been nicer, spent a lot of time on my problem, and after that just charged me for the battery. I really wanted to like this place, as it's nearly impossible to find a good, affordable mechanic in the city. The owner is polite and kind, but he's still running the business and of course it's in his best interest to make as much money as possible. Each day, the owner and/or employees post advertisements on CL for "$65" muffler replacement most cars. This isn't just the labor cost, so of course I contacted him and received a quote 3x the advertised cost including catback pipe and tailpipe. I come in the next day after a neighbor (who is a professional ase mechanic) told me the pipe is fine and it only needed a muffler. Roll in, fitting the advertisement part and labor list verbatim, and I'm still quoted over 2x the advertised price. It would make sense if I needed a custom muffler set up for a large car, but this was for a 2-seater subcompact, taking the smallest muffler and set up available. I figured I'd take the price if he included a brake fluid flush. Well, I do most of my own work and could handle the brake fluid job, but let the shop do it out of convenience. I watch the mechanic suck fluid out of the reservoir, pour some new in and call it ot a day...nope. That's not a brake fluid flush, I have to convince the mechanic that the air in the brake lines are at the caliper, hence why a flush is required. I don't like getting bait and switched, but I really don't like incompetence or needing to argue with someone that knows how work needs to be performed, but avoids it out of laziness. The owner was 'suprised' when I brought this event to his attention, but he had my money and wouldn't have had the mechanic do the work correctly if I had missed it. I didn't get ripped off, the work done was a fair price. But it wasn't offerered as advertised, and the mechanics don't seem to put much effort into their work. I'm not sure the weld job to the new muffler will last more than a year or two either, it looks like a child practiced their first soldering experiment from a diy kit. read more

After being quoted $1250 at two different inspection places and being recommended to replace my timing belt immediately, the owner, Sam, quoted me $850 and explained that although I should replace my timing belt soon, it's not imperative just yet. Timing belt replacements are big money makers for many mechanic shops. It's cliche by now to say that it's hard to find an honest mechanic, but I'd highly recommend Xpert Auto Service to others. Can't say enough good things about this auto shop, aside from the fact that they waited 30 minutes past when they were supposed to close just so I could drop my car off, they were also intelligent, polite, helpful, and timely with getting my brakes done. Great auto shop off of Elston. Both times I called in an spoke to Sam he was honest and upfront about what was needed. Able to fit me in with ease. One time I needed and oil change and told Sam about some noise I was hearing in the front of the car. Sam put it on the lift for me and saw nothing that needed immediate fix, but pointed out something that I could come in and do at my conveniece. It is nice knowing that I have a reliable auto shop that I can go to where I know I won't have to wait for days to get in and also know that I am getting good honest service. This place is not your typical shop. They are attentive quick and proffesional. I needed new brakes on my Nissan and bought a groupon for this service. Ive had terrible experiences with groupon vouchers in other shops. Trying to tell me about unnecessary repairs or actually causing damage so they can get me to pay for what they damaged. Not Here. They did exactly what I paid for. New brake pads and rotors for a great price with quick and courtious service. The owner told me i dont have to go through groupon to get a great deal and he was right. Ive told all my friends and family about this shop and they never disapoint.
