I told the front guy the issue with my car. They ran a "courtesy" multipoint inspection. Front guy sent a fancy report with issues my car had. I called and I authorized to fix one thing. Front guy told me the total and the numbers didn't square up but I waited to talk in person. When I went to get my car and mentioned that numbers didn't square up, front guy got flustered and said he was charging me just for labor ($200 plus just labor seemed excessive). I was in a rush and got the feeling that talking to a wall would be more productive then I paid and left feeling I was scammed (I got charged for the "courtesy" inspection too). I've taken my car to this place before and all was fine until this time. There are two other car mechanic shops near by, it's time to try them out. read more

Beware. I called to schedule service on my GLE350; specifically, I wanted a front end alignment. Someone answers that was clearly on a remote device because the static was extremely loud. I told the individual I'd call back. I called again and same experience. Rather than apologize the guy snaps at me, "I can hear you!" So ok I'll move on. I requested service and he said,"what's wrong with your car?" A hum, nothing I would like an alignment. It was a strained conversation to say the least. Preventive maintenance must be foreign to this shop. I asked how long would they need to keep my car, "I don't know, we'll call you when it's done!" Now this guy never ask what make car, is it pulling nothing. I've always taken my car to the dealer and that's what I'll do this time. E & J suggest you learn to show some patience and some lever if customer service. I'm a local home owner and frankly wouldn't take my car here now if it was the last shop in the area. read more

TOTAL LIARS. They assured me on the phone they could fix my Sienna electrical problem, but I had to leave the car. I told them I live an hour away and was only interested if I could wait why they did the diagnosis/estimate. Ryan checked with his manager and said, "yes" I could wait. Upon arriving at the appointed time, after driving an hour there, Ryan said I'd have to leave it, said he never told me I could wait, called in the manager who rudely fought with me that I was wrong and that he would never have approved that commitment. These people lied to me, probably just to get me into their shop, pull my car apart, and then leave me with no option but to do whatever repairs they wanted. Have been very disappointed since new ownership- used to be such a reliable and trustworthy neighborhood auto shop. Got a quote today that was 15% ABOVE dealer repair price, then was told I could get the dealer price when confronted with this. I expect the best price, the honest price, the first time! And that's not the first disappointing experience my family has had- miss the old owners!!!! I'll add another star for the outreach phone call I received today. Clearly an effort to repair the experience yesterday and that is recognized and appreciated. An explanation was provided for additional cost compared to dealership quote. I was initially told higher cost was because quote included price of a belt, now I was told price included extended warrantee. Just wish the pricing of a major repair was more consistent. read more

I asked to replace the transmission fluid with a filter and gasket. I repeated several times that it is necessary to remove the AT pan and replace the filter. In the end, they did nothing as I asked. When I did ATF flush next time, the gasket was like a plastic, so nobody even touch the pan many years. read more

They also said they may or may not be able to work on it today. What a joke! I can't imagine the absurd price I'll have to pay if my car actually needed work done to it. This is my favorite Auto repair shop. I have been going to them for about 8 years with my Honda Pilot. They make sure you are driving safe. I really appreciate the service they give with the diagnosis that let you see what the troubled parts look like on your car. So you know what is being fixed. I think it's pretty cool you get emails with the report on you car. And that helps as a women trying to explain to someone what was wrong with it. For my husband to pass up mechanics that he personnaly knows to bring it only to E & J is saying alot. If you want great honest service and treated right this is the place. Found this place through a friend who gave high recommendations. Came in for a brake job and they were able to take my car in and update me on all of the things that were wrong with it; they gave me a priority list of what to repair. One thing that they were able to tell me that other places could not was that my car was missing a coolant overflow tank! This explained why I had so many overheating problems during the summer and I am glad that I am able to handle this now. If you are caught without a ride back home and are forced to wait for the job to be done, like I was, it was not bad at all. The person working the front desk, Ed, was very polite and lighthearted, making conversations easy and enjoyable. He answered any and all questions that I had and I learned a lot since I did not know much about cars. They also have a 24 month warranty, which is included in all services. The place is also Repair PAL Certified. Both of their mechanics are certified by the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and are both Master Automobile Technicians. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and worth it in time and money. When coming here, you will be paying for great car service and peace of mind knowing that these mechanics know what they are doing and have a strong family history in the mechanic business. I recommend this place to anyone that wants honesty and integrity when dealing with their cars. These people care about you by putting their all into the cars they work on, unlike big chain shops that just go for sales. Brought in my Chevy cruze because i was hearing a noise coming from the tires every time i would start driving. I had just recently replaced brakes and rotors a couple days ago. I told them that i had just replaced them. So they (person in the front. Forgot his name) checked them out and gave me a call that the inspection was done. When i get there. He starts telling me that he and the mechanics think that the other mechanic put on cheap material. So they recommended me to get new brakes with them. Which i did and they were not cheap. Replaced them and the noise is still there. I brought it back and left it for a day. Next day i went and picked it up and they told me they found something but fixed it. Wrong. The noise is still there and they wanted me to bring it back. I under stand that things like these happen but for them to tell me i got cheap material put on so i can buy brakes from them is wrong. I can't call off work just to go waste my time going back and forth when. "they found something and fixed it" but the problem is still there. I live in the area and have been using E&J for years now. I can walk home after dropping my car and they always do a good job. I know the guys that work there by name, and they are always courteous and go out of their way to fix my car problems. My wife has a Saab which can be difficult to find parts for, but they always go the extra mile to take care of it. They are not the cheapest around, but the prices are not unreasonable and the job is always well done. It's a reliable neighborhood mechanic. I wish I could give negative stars. 1 is too much! Took my 2007 Chevy Impala there for a slight trans leak. Cost was over $400 which I thought was high but they were recommended by family. When I got the car back a noise developed. Took it back and they wanted another $200 to fix an air conditioning damper. Funny how they said it was coincidence. Did some research and it was a $20 part and a friend installed it. Now the car doesn't shift properly and a grinding sounds. I brought it back. Again they said it was a coincidence. Nothing they did. They want another $2400 to fix it. Tomorrow the car is getting towed to a different shop. They quoted me and said no more than $1500 to rebuild the trans and front differential. Stay away! Wow, these yelp reviews definitely do not reflect the overwhelming fervor that the google reviews possess that ultimately led me to go to here in the first place. I do agree that their prices aren't necessarily the best you'll find, but I found the service to be incredibly fast and ridiculously honest. When I first walked in (btw, I brought the 1st time user's discount coupon from their website), the service man was summing up the issues with the gentleman in front of me's situation. The guy had asked what would happen if he didn't replace a part immediately. Without hesitating, the staff told him he didn't need to replace it now, and to just wait until he got his brakes fixed. So...he REFUSED to take the guys money. Super honest and friendly, and they provide recommendations of what you need and when you need it. Because of the small size of my Yaris, they had difficulty in replacing the headlight which was out (I hadn't noticed), and didn't charge me extra for the amount of time it took to get into the panel. If you know a lot about cars and how to do repairs cheaply, this is not the place for you. If, on the other hand, you want your car checked out for anything and everything under the sun to get an honest synopsis of when you'll need to get it fixed, you can't find a better shop. They even sent me a reminder in the mail of when I needed an oil change. They would get 5 stars if they'd just come down in price a little bit. I will never bring my car to this place ever again. I am extremely offended at how they tried to take advantage of us. Brought in my car to get my back brakes fixed. I informed them that I already had breaks, just needed them installed and they said they would take a look and see what they could do. They called back and said they could not use the new brakes we had becuse they were strictly front brakes, not back brakes. That didn't sound right to us, considering we recently purchased a brand new kit including a new set of breaks for both the front and back. We previously had a separate mechanic put on the front brakes a few months ago. Keep in mind, front breaks will only fit on the front and back brakes will only fit on the back. That's the way they are made. They informed us they would need to order them because ours wouldn't work on the car and it would come out to around 500 dollars. We decided not to use them and take it to a different mechanic. This mechanic put on the back brakes no problem and charged 150, a quarter of what this place was trying to charge us, and dishonestly at that matter. I'm disgusted. I think they saw that it was a jaguar, my husband told them what he did for a living making good money and they tried to take advantage of us. While I was waiting to pick up the car from this place, I saw an old man walk in with an issue for his car and I can't help but wonder how much money this business has swindled him out of. Before you use this place, I strongly recommend getting a second opinion to assure you are not being suckered in the way they tried to sucker This is a response to your comment John. I am aware of the conversation that was had with my husband. You are correct in that he did not want to accept the reimbursement of the 200 dollars we paid to get our car looked at. We are honest people and because you guys did a seemingly thorough check of our car, we wanted to pay for that. Now, whether we can trust anything you wrote on that check is another story. We have zero trust in you, not because there was a miscommunication, but because you blatantly lied. You DID NOT say that it was a liability issue and you needed to order your own parts. What was said was that the brakes we had did not fit because they were strictly front brakes and would not fit on the back brakes. That, John, was a blatant lie. You were just not expecting us to question it and take it to another mechanic. I wonder what else you guys have lied about to customers in hopes that there would be no follow up? If you would have said in the first place that you strictly needed to order all parts for you to install them, then we would not be having an issue. The issue is the dishonesty. The man who called my husband apologized for "lying" not for a miscommunication. I especially don't appreciate you trying to brush this off as a miscommunication and not accepting any responsibility for the lie that your company told us. Very, very unfortunate experience with E&J. I am experienced at auto repair and, unless my visit was a total anomaly, they seem to be charging a great deal more than you can easily find elsewhere. Yes, they were fast. Yes, they definitely knew what they were doing. Yes, they are courteous. But they charged me $553.85 for a water-pump replacement, about twice what I would have paid elsewhere, and I felt railroaded into taking it, because they had already charged me $89 for the estimate ("minimum one hour"). I had already told them exactly where the problem was, but they insisted on hoisting the car and hooking it up to confirm. It must have taken them only a few minutes to do so, and they found I was correct, but they still charged me the minimum of an hour diagnostic time. Next, they charged a full two hours for the actual work, which I know must have taken about half that time because I know from experience that it's a very easy pump to replace (I didn't have time to do it myself). In short, I felt cheated and I told them so. They grandly announced my $10 "first-time customer" discount. That discount amounted to 1.7% of my total bill. Every item, from mechanic time, to parts, even to radiator fluid, was heavily padded in its pricing. They may provide good service, but you can do far better elsewhere on price and not lose on service. Other recommendations that I didn't get to try (because E&J gouged me on the estimate) include Nal's on Irving Park and Superior on Lake near Pulaski. read more

My husband went to E & J Auto Service for a Oil Change and Rotation of Tires. He was very impressed with the shop and the professionalism of the owner and the mechanic. They did his oil change and also did a free inspection of the car. He needed some filters changed but was told he didn't need the rotation of his tires right now. He can wait until his next oil change. Other shops would of done it just to get the money. If you need any work done this is the place to go. read more

Always answer the phone personally, don't rush you with your car concerns, and get the job done quickly and reasonably priced. Found them about 2 yrs ago and its the only place I go to now. Even when I just pulled in with headlamp trouble fixed it while I waited and was in and out quickly. One other good thing I never had any of that re - repairs. Terrible customer service. I stopped by earlier in the week needing an oil change and was advised that it would be best to make an appointment, which I did. I got a call the morning of the appointment asking to reschedule for the following day, it was inconvenient but I agreed. I dropped my car off 20 minutes before the appointment time and was told that they'd call me when it was ready. Two hours and twenty minutes after the appointment time I called to make sure it was ready before walking back, because surely an oil change doesn't take two hours plus? I was told that my car had not been brought in yet and probably wouldn't be ready for another two hours, no apology. So now I've taken two mornings off work, and still need to get an oil change. I was having issues with my A/C blowing hot air and went to the dealer. After 6 hours and $160 in they said I need a compressor that will be $1250 W/Labor. I wanted a second look so gave this shop a try and WOW! Great friendly service and explained every process in detail. So the end results? It was not my compressor and was just a leak from the hose connecting to it. I paid only a small fraction from what the dealership quoted. When given a price I usually call my guy and so far my guy without his own garage has agreed with the quotes they give. And as for being a small neighborhood shop they aren't that old school as far as tech. My entire family is very pleased with the service that E & J provides and we have been using them for over 20 year. They are honest, up front people that do great work. I do a lot of my own work such as oil changes, brakes, etc, but I don't have the tools or know how to do every repair. I don't think they have ever had to keep one of cars more then 2 days and that was probably because they were waiting for a part. They are close enough for me to walk to and from so I will often drop the car off in the parking lot the night before and leave the keys in an envelope in the mail slot so that it is there for them when they get their the next morning. I usually hear from them in the afternoon that it is done. Oh, and ladies they will not treat you like you don't know what you are talking about. My mother and other female friends have always felt they were treated fairly and honestly when they went in. They are very easy to recommend to friends. They also have an online website that you can track all the work that has been done on your car by them so that you can see when what was done. E&J might look conspicuous from the outside but don't let that fool ya! My family has been taking our 4 cars to E&J for years. Each time we've had great customer service, reliable work done, and in a timely matter all done by a family owned, local small business. I have a Pontiac Sunfire that one day my car's computer just literally fell out from the undercarriage (no joke). So I towed it to E&J and of course they were as perplexed as I was! Thankfully John and the guys there were able to fully reconstruct my computer's wiring and system. That's no easy task! It took a few days but a seemingly impossible job turned into a no-brainer for E&J! Same car, but whenever I make left turns, there's a sort-of scrapping noise coming from the left front end. Of course my dad freaked out (this was when I was 18) and immediately took it to E&J. They worked on it all day and couldn't find a problem. The best part? They didn't charge us a dollar! They really treat their repeat customers fairly. Sure, they're not the cheapest around and they will charge you to run a diagnostics test if your engine light is on (even if you went to a place like Auto Zone first), but hey, they need to make sure they know what they're dealing with. It makes sense. Only big gripe is that they're not open on weekends. UGH. Come on guys! at least a Saturday when everyone's not working! Overall E&J is a great place to service your car and they take most car's warranties as well!! read more

I went E & J because a friend referred me. The father of the group took very good care of her. The son did too for the first year or two. Then, my my oil changes turned in to $350.00 issues every year. I was told I needed a tune up each year. My care had about 8,000 miles on it. So I had my car tuned up each year because of the issues the son found wrong with my car. I talked to another friend and the same thing was happening to her on her brand new car. I've been taking my family cars to E&J for several years now. They do good quality work on a timely basis. One thing I really appreciate about E&J (particularly since I'm not much of a car expert) is that they will not perform unnecessary work. On more than one occasion, I have brought in cars with complaints or issues, fully expecting to be dinged with a big bill only to learn it was a minor problem or adjustment. I know some other shops that would not act handled such situations with the same level of integrity. You might be able to find a shop (particularly some chains) that charge a bit less for certain services, but these guys are honest pros and I place a real premium on that. read more

Great experience at E & J Auto Service! During my last oil change my dealer said my rear brake pads were approaching the end of their useful life on my 2013 Ford Fusion. Balking at the dealer's quote and being somewhat handy I decided to do them myself. I managed to change the brake pads but decided to let the pros handle the brake bleed. I dropped my car at 7am and explained the situation. By 9am I received an email with a detailed PDF containing a comprehensive inspection of my car (it even had photos). Joe the order even called me to let me know my rotors needed changing too. He quoted me a great price and had my car ready for my wife to pick up by the time they closed shop.
