I always tell myself I am going to write a review for a fantastic business and I never get around to it. This place finally made me want to sit down and write the review. There are plenty of auto shops within a walkable distance of my apartment and I have to pay for a Lyft to get to this place (no one to give me a ride), but the Yelp reviews were so good I made the longer trip anyway. I needed front brake pads & rotors replaced. Turns out I also had a nail in my tire, he patched that up for me and filled my tires, no extra charge. It was just done when I picked the car up. The cost of the parts & labor was very reasonable, and the job was done quickly. Couldn't have asked for more. The owner was short staffed (the only one there) but still dropped everything to help me with what I thought was a nail in my tire. He found it was a bent rim with a crack and pointed me to a place that could straighten and weld it. I had an excellent experience taking my car to Rodriguez Auto Shop. Ramiro is a very honest mechanic. I came in with a failed emissions test and needed repairs done to my engine to pass the test. He did a great job with communication and keeping me updated on what was needed for the repair. I had taken my car to another shop before going to Ramiro, and the service was SIGNIFICANTLY more affordable at his shop than at the other shop! I came into Rodriguez Auto Shop at 12:30 on a Friday, half-frantic as I was going to be late for my sister's wedding rehearsal. The previous shop I took my flat tire to the day prior had ignored the fact I said I needed the tire in the morning and hadn't even touched it by time I returned to pick it up (see my Pep Boys review for full backstory). When I walked in, I was under the assumption that I needed a new tire given the prior shop's assessment. I explained the situation to the mechanic & he offered to stop the task he was on to assist me. After inspecting the tire, he offers to patch it given the time constraint (while also explaining the potential risk given the patch's location). I took him up on the offer to patch, and in less than 15 minutes I was able to get back on the road and on my way to my sister's wedding rehearsal. The location may seem a little odd given that it's wedged between two residential houses on Ashland, but the customer service is far better than what you'll receive at big-brand shops. I plan on returning soon to get a quote on brake service & 4 new tires. read more

Rodriguez Auto Shop had some great reviews, so I called them up (along with a few other places) to get some price quotes. To be honest, I went there because they were the cheapest. But they're more than that. I always get scared that when I go to get anything done on my car, the guy is gonna take advantage of me because I'm a woman who clearly knows nothing about cars. And when I walked in and was asked how many cylinders my engine had... and I had no idea, I braced myself for a $1000 oil change. Buuut it didn't happen. It is normally $20.00 for a patch, so it would be $40.00 for the two, Gil only charged me $30.00 and put the tire back on for me. Great guys, great service. Tuffy usually fixes my tires ($35 to replace + tire cost) but they were having issues with their machine. My tire was just sent to them by an online store (tirerack) since Tuffy didn't have my tire. So, they just told me the names of a few other places. Cassidy won't put on a tire that's sent in from an online store. CarX wanted $150-$175 to change a tire (what??) and couldn't do it for 3 hours. Bucaro Brothers was totally booked (not appointment only - but still had no time). They sent me to Rodriguez Rodriguez put it on in 20 minutes for $25. I wish I knew about them earlier. I probably could have saved money on some other stuff. (EDIT) The only problem was - they never checked the tire pressure & I was driving 5 lbs low... they never even said - go to a gas station to check it & fill it up because we can't fill it here. I could sense the unevenness rather soon after the change though. read more

Romero was very nice on the phone, told me no appointment necessary but just to call so they could clear a spot for me. needed an oil change and a new horn. quoted me a fair price with options between new and used parts and then when I arrived it was 35$ less. love this place! This is an honest and decent place to go when in a pinch with your tires. A friend of mine blew a tire about a month ago. The CarX down the street wanted to sell her new one but this shop was able to patch it for about $25. It was a nasty tear in the tire too and the repair held. He dropped what he was doing go help us out right away. A month later I ended up with slow leak from a screw in my tire and brought my car in. Again, he dropped what he was doing to do the repair right away and was only about $12 (mine was a much smaller repair). I'm so very pleased with his service that I had to Yelp this store. Forget the big box service centers that just want to sell tires. if you need a quick, cheap repair and keep using your tires, this is a place to see if it can be repaired. I'll definitely go back. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN.......bought two tires within a month and a half and one tire had a slow leak. I called and talk to the owner and was told to come in with my reciept and I did and he would not replace the tire. ....mind you he charges 50 per tire and I definitely was not about to give him another 50 for a tire that didn't even last me 6 months. Ramiro will be my go-to mechanic. I needed emergency brake work done and he and his shop gave me fair pricing and provided great work, quicker than expected. He even identified broken parts that, I was told previously by another shop, was a non-related issue in the suspension of my Jeep. Without having him give everything a look over, I would have spent hundreds of dollars replacing parts that did not need replaced. I've owned many cars and have come to know mechanics in different cities - Ramiro really knows how to get good work done cheap. I found a nail in my tire one night and I was leaving for a 2 week vacation out of the country early the next day so I was really in a pinch to get it repaired. I called Rodriguez's first thing in the morning and he had me bring it right over. He did the job in about 15 minutes, no wait, and even did a quick check on the rest of the car since my maitenence required light was on. He did it all for cheap, too! I haven't had any problems with the tire since, I'm extremely pleased with the service and especially the flexibility to get it done right away. Been to several of the higher rated auto repair shops in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area and this is the best. Dropped off my 2012 Buick Verano before Labor Day weekend with weird engine noise and shaking at idle, but no check engine light (hard to diagnose). Ramiro made some calls around to local dealerships and did some research and pinpointed exactly which sensor needed to be replaced. He even left a message for me over the holiday weekend. After such good service, the final bill was also more reasonable than I had expected. The first freezing cold Chicago temps resulted in a flat tire. A random passerby attempted to put the spare on, but the bolts wouldn't budge... I called Rodriguez Auto Shop and they came to my rescue! I wasn't far so they came to put air in my tire. Again, the freezing temps wouldn't allow air in. I drove back to the shop with Ramiro's wife. Mr. Rodriguez may not speak perfect English, but he is honest & fair & ensures you understand how he's solved the problem. I just needed an oil change but based on the negative reviews Midas got and the GLOWING reviews Rodriguez got, I decided to go to Rodriguez. $35 for an oil change and nothing else. If I go to the dealer, I can get an oil change, car wash, and tire rotation for $30 and $17 with a coupon. I can go to Midas, Jiffy Lube, any car service chain and get an oil change with free tire rotation for $20 with a coupon. Maybe this place is good if you have a serious car problem but i feel really ripped off read more
