Over the course of two weeks, I called three times and stopped by during business hours to get a chirping noise diagnosed and corrected. No one answered. No one was there. No one returned my calls. This business is close to me and I saw a couple of fairly positive reviews on the internet. I like to support local, so I was willing to try and chase them a bit to give them my business-- I hadn't established a local mechanic yet and really hoped they would be the ones. Unfortunately, their lack of response has ensured I will never try them. I went to Delgado's up the street. They answered the first call, got me in the next day, and fixed the problem. If anyone from Wons sees this-- the first step in acquiring new business is answering the phone when we call. read more

I have a vintage convertible and I'm so happy I have found WAW for any service it requires. Jason really knows his stuff. Moreover, he is patient in answering all my questions and explaining things very clearly. Last time I had it in, because it hadn't started a couple times, he couldn't get it to repeat the issue. But he showed me where the starter mechanism was and how to tap it in case it was sticking. He didn't charge me anything. I will be taking my car to him every time it needs work. read more

I was a customer for a couple of years. I was happy with repairs and service, so I kept returning. However, my most recent experience left me disappointed. I needed some repairs, but the estimated repairs were more than expected making it difficult for me to proceed immediately. Fortunately, Jason, the owner, allowed me to stow the car until I could afford the repairs, which I appreciated. When I finally had the funds to proceed with the repair, Jason expressed concern about potential corrosion on the brakes or something similar and declined to work on the car further. Despite my attempts to reason with him, he remained firm in his decision. While I understand the importance of maintaining safety standards, I don't think he needed or wanted the work and didn't care what that might mean for his customer. This left me scratching my head and wondering what I'd missed. read more

Great Shop! Outstanding service! They helped me out with an emergency repair during horrible snow weather right the way! Definitely would recommend this place! read more

The first time I visited Wons he was in a different location. I tried him because a gentleman in his lobby told me he had been bringing his vehicle there for over 10 years. I asked him why, and what he told me made me leave my car for repairs. Jason moved the shop to his current location a few years later and I'm still taking my car to him. Here's why, he's a worker and keeps his word. Not only that, but he answers 'all' your questions with complete honesty..good or bad. He really knows cars too. I've learned a lot thanks to his insights on vehicle maintenance. If you're looking for a mechanic's mechanic, Jason's the real deal! I consider him a real friend now. I even stop by just to say hi to him from time-to-time because that's the way he makes you feel when he takes care of your vehicle. Try him, I promise you that you will become a customer for life too! Arthur E. read more

Jason is fantastic. Honest and does a great job! Much appreciated. Quick efficient and fairly priced. read more

I think Jason is one of the most honest repair people I've met. He never makes up anything... didn't charge me twice when I brought my car in..he could've made up anything..or just charged me for his time. he now gets all my business. And the work is always will done, and completed when he says it will be. read more

I wish I could give this business five stars, as I've done for the last 20+ years, but Jason has overlooked several problems with my car that another mechanic confirmed, including the need for new tires. He has insisted that I don't need tire rotations and thought that my car was all-wheel-drive when it is front-wheel drive. I don't know if he just doesn't need the business or what, but it's super disappointing because he has been nothing but honest and reliable since I started using him when his shop was on Byron and Ashland. I no longer trust his judgment, so I've taken my business elsewhere. read more

What can I say? Jason Won proves that the words honest and mechanic are not always mutually exclusive! He is an extremely honest, knowledgeable, and trustworthy mechanic. A great alternative to the overpriced dealerships I've used in the past. I have no problem recommending him to anyone I know. read more

I left a review on Google but I had to come to Yelp too. It would be wrong of me not to share this experience with more people. I'm sure I'm in good company when I say I've been gouged by dishonest dealerships and mechanics more times than not. Jason is such a nice and honest guy, you'd be crazy to go anywhere else. I never will again. He's got super fair pricing and is really good at what he does. read more

I have taken my car here several times for various issues, some more minor than the others and have always found Jason to be 100% aboveboard on all communication and honest about what needs to happen and when. I highly recommend them for reliable, no BS auto repair and others on the Bucktown Facebook group feel the same way! Support this local awesome place and you will not regret it. read more

Really appreciated how honest and straightforward the service is here. Took my 2004 RAV4 in with transmission problems and knew it would be an expensive fix, but was open to repair options since I'm in grad school for another two years and want to avoid a car payment. What I appreciated most when I got the call was an immediate recommendation and rationale of why not to fix the car, even though it would mean a $4000 job for them. That's integrity. Will definitely be back when I need service on my new car! read more

I know nothing about cars (and I'm BLONDE!) so taking my car to a mechanic can always be a little nerve wracking (will I get worked over, will they scare me into unnecessary repairs and gadgets, you get the idea). After reading other reviews on Won's, I decided to call them for my 60,000 mile check up. From the first phone call to picking up my freshly serviced car, it was such a great experience. Everything was explained to me up front, they gave me time to run their quote by my previous trusted mechanic in Arizona (they said the hours/work listed was reasonable for our car and the prices were good), and then the car was serviced in the amount of time they told me it would be. Perfecto! Since that first experience, we take our car their for oil changes and have always had a good experience. No upselling about getting special oil or buying a new filter. Just a good ol' oil change and I'm out the door. Most recently, they helped us (saved us) from buying a BAD car. We had the seller meet us at Won's so they could do an inspection and right off the bat, they told us all the things wrong with the car and shed some light on our car search-definitely saved us from buying a car we thought was in tip top shape. After that, I actually called and talked to Jordan (I think?) to get more advice, and he gave it out freely (recommended cars to look for in our price point that had the features we were looking for). Seriously. I feel like I can now say "I know a guy..." and will never get duped on car stuff again. Professional, friendly, good prices, and honest service. read more

We stopped in to the Western Ave location on a Saturday to replace a tail light -- we were, literally, in and out! Great service and incredibly gracious and personable staff. We will definitely be coming back! read more

I don't write a ton of reviews, so this place must have been something special, right? It was. I called this morning to get my car is due to the fact it has stalled out on me and was not running. I talked to Jordan and he was extremely helpful and quick to get me the name of Oscar who would tow my car over to the shop. Once there is was only a couple of hours before Jordan was calling and letting me know exactly what was going on with the car. He broke down the cost on everything I needed done and explained everything very well and due to my work schedule he was willing to wait for me to get there, which I thought was awesome. The car drives great, the service was awesome and the price was VERY reasonable. I think I know where I will be going for all my future car issues/maintenance! Thanks again Wons and Jordan for doing such a great job! read more

This is the sole mechanic shop allowed to repair my BMW 328i and X3. Jason the owner is honest and professional. He also knows luxury German cars and himself drives the superb Audi S4. I'm meticulous about maintenance. Too meticulous really. I once poured one quart oil too much into the 328i's engine that cost $1200 to unclog plus tow bill. I can rely upon the mechanics to thoroughly repair any issues including my dumb mistake. Only BMW can make checking the oil level and changing radio clock so complicated that one needs to read the owner's manual. Thanks Munich, Bavaria for over-engineering these two items. I can expect to be properly charged too. Jason primarily works on luxury vehicles, but also handles all vehicle makes. As a BMW driver, you won't wait 2 weeks for appointments like a certain BMW shop opened by two former dealership mechanics. You'll see plenty of BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, and Audi here. We premium German drivers are a fussy lot so it's a compliment that Jason's shop garners solid reviews. Won's also has a 2-car shop location on Irving Park Road. read more

Holding off on that fifth star for now, but I am happy to have found them. I went for very basic maintenance, which they did quickly and courteously. Jordon is friendly on the phone and in person. The place seems honest, although I haven't had an opportunity to really test that. The prices are fair. I'm not sure how thorough they were, didn't do a top-to-bottom check, and I don't feel as confident as I have at other mechanics, but I guess I only needed very basic service at this point, so I'll have to try them again for a more serious checkup to see how I feel then. I'll go back and I'd recommend it. read more

Used to go to Chicago Import Service in LP (gave Alex and his guys a great review) but recently moved to Bucktown so thought I'd try this place out given its right by my place and it specializes in European cars. Jason, who I think is the owner was friendly when I first walked in and based on conversation, he knows a lot about M3's. Dropped my car off for an oil change but later was called because apparently there was a couple of things that needed to be replaced/fixed (oil leaking). He didnt do the oil change since it would have been redundant given he would have had to remove the oil again so he wanted to know first if he should replace the parts. I knew my car was leaking (oil spots in parking space) so I knew the oil pan and whatever gasket needed to be replaced. Anyway, nice to know he waited for my response before doing the work and oil change - saved time and money. It took only a day to fix and get the oil change and the total was under the quote he gave me... not by much but better than charging more. I didnt notice this until later, but a huge reason for 5 stars is that my bumper was in a minor accident and was offset/hanging off a little but he set it so it doesnt look like my bumper is about to fall off!!! Talk about extra credit and going above and beyond. To sum it up, Jason does not charge you or recommend things you dont need fixed/repaired for your car. This shop is quick, priced competitively to other European Auto repair shops, and most importantly HONEST. Found my new auto repair shop and if I move again, I'm still bring my car here. read more

Had been going to Jason for 2 years to service my Cayenne in Lakeview, so was thrilled when he opened a location in Bucktown where I live. Have used him for everything from oil changes, new tires + replacing my break pads. Fast/friendly service + I always feel like I am receiving a fair price. Great resource to bounce ideas + questions off as well. Best mechanic I have used so far. read more

I have taken my Jeep Wrangler to Wons on two occasions. Both were emergency repairs and both were repaired excellently! I highly recommend this shop as the owner is so nice and listens to your concerns and provides great, quality workmanship at a more than fair price. For those of you who have modified Jeeps, my Jeep Wrangler is highly modified, lifted, oversized everything. The Jeep dealership and several other shops said they could not work on it and make the repair. I was able to call Wons and was told to bring it by. They were able to look it over and said they would give it a shot. The repair was done and now I know that this is the shop I'll be taking my Jeep to for any repairs or future modifications. Can't say enough about their professionalism and expertise. 100% satisfied! And I'm sure you will be also. read more

Won's is a good honest shop that does quality work. I had to have an expensive steering component replaced on my 190e and while initially disappointed that they wouldn't install a used part to save me money, I appreciated their honesty and desire to be able to stand by and guarantee their work, and it will likely save me money in the long run. The results of the repair were excellent. Jason the owner is very nice and easy to work with. read more

Won's performed some basic transmission maintenance for me a few months ago. I called to get a quote before I brought it in, and when they told me what it was (about $150 less than a chain quoted me), I actually said "are you sure???" because I didn't believe them. Anyway, the service was done quickly and affordably. They didn't try to sell me a bunch of other unnecessary repairs. The guys were friendly and not condescending at all (it's hard to believe at this stage in the game, but some people still talk to women about their cars like they are idiots). I will definitely be taking my baby back to Wons from now on. read more

You can trust this mechanic so bring your car here! I've brought my car here multiple times - all issues resolved and no sticker shock over the cost of repairs. After searching for a while, I almost went elsewhere, but I'm glad I decided to look again! Jason's a very straight shooter, and not at all pushy. He was a pleasure to do business with and finished my synthetic oil change very quickly. I barely had time to run across the street to the Verizon store and look at all the new toys! As I mentioned, I went in for a synthetic oil change for my 2005 Ford Focus, and showed up at the time Jason and I had discussed on the phone. I went in to find him at the desk, and he said I could pull the car right in. He asked if I was going to wait, and I told him that I figured I would, and he said something along the lines of that was fine, it should only be 20 minutes, anyway. I told him I might run across the street, but that I wouldn't be far. I went to the Verizon store for a few minutes, returning to the office to sit in one of the chairs they have for folks to wait. A few minutes later, Jason came over and told me he'd found another minor issue. I told him that I was sure that there were a few issues, but he told me it wasn't that bad. Turns out I have a rear shock with a busted seal, and it's been leaking oil for some time. Not a huge deal, but I'd want to take care of it soon. I returned to my seat to dub around on my phone for the remainder of my stay, and Jason soon came back to ring me up and get me numbers on the rear shock work. The estimate for both rear shocks came in at just under $250, which I think is very fair, and my oil change came in under the Yelp promoted price of $45+. I asked about a transmission flush service, and he tried to find a number for me, but ultimately he will have to contact a dealer to get accurate numbers, and offered to call me when he had them. It was a great, no-pressure, no-hassle experience. I will be back to get those shocks taken care of, and hopefully I'll get good news on the transmission fluid service, too. Stay tuned... read more

After leaving Wons after my most recent work, I realized that I had been lied to. The story is I originally brought my Audi in to get a headlight changed, when I went to pick the car up from Wons there was a warning light on the dash, turns out the problem was that the headlights did work but they lost the "adaptive headlight" functionality (headlights turn when the car turns). Before I left I pointed this out and they plugged the car in and decided that something needed to be programmed, it was very vague, but Wons said due to a faculty connecter on my car's ECU they could not finish the programming. They told me that it would be X amount to replace the connector, but that would not guarantee that it would fix the problem and that it might be in the wiring. I thought this was weird because I know that cars ECU connected worked a week prior but I said forget, I do not want to pay for it now. A week later I took my car to emissions and the test went fine, the connector was not a problem. I called told Wons and they said bring it back, so I did. They had my car for the day and at the end of the day they said the cars module lost the data for the headlights and could not be programmed but that I had to go to Audi. They also said that there changing of the headlight had nothing to do with the "lost data". I spoke with another mechanic, good guy just too far to go to for these little things, and he said that 1) it was a 99% change that Wons did lose the data 2) the normal way to do the headlights is to download the data from the old igniter and upload that data onto the new igniter 3) he told me that Wons could most likely fix the problem but without the old part is would be very time consuming and 3) At the very least it would cost $125 but most likely more. In short, Wons told me that it was nothing they did and nothing they could do to fix. I do realize that this sounds petty, but at the end of the day I had been a regular customer and had several jobs done on multiple cars in the last year, I even stayed for almost an extra 1/2 speaking with the manager about our S4's and track days. He seemed like a very good guy, but at the end of the day when push came to shove and he had to options of lying and getting out of the extra work or finishing the job that they started and I paid for, he opted to send me packing to Audi. This has always been the problem with mechanics, they get a bad name for not begin truthful and in this case, I was lied to and given the only option to go elsewhere to have the job finished. If you would have asked me 1 month ago I would have given this place five stars, but now I can't and I feel like they had no problem doing this to me, and they way I see it is they will most likely will do it again. read more

When my car overheated recently, I took it to Won's. Jason and Jordan diagnosed the problem in minutes and were able to order and install a new thermostat in the same day. I have a Saab and parts have become both very hard to find and expensive since Saab no longer manufactures vehicles. I called another shop that works on Saabs exclusively and the owner insisted I come in immediately and, when he found out what my mileage was, he tried to convince me to get a tuneup (aka, change of fluids and minor adjustments to the car) for around $1k. I asked Jason if that was necessary and if it was how much it'd cost for him to do it. He laughed and said it wasn't necessary but if it were, the cost would be a fraction of what the other shop quoted. The people at Won's are extremely courteous, knowledgeable, and provide services/repairs at a cost that's very reasonable. I will no longer take my car anywhere else when it needs service. read more

Never reviewed anything on Yelp before. Just got back from Wons after the fiancee came home with a dead flat tire. We live a couple of blocks away. I rolled it over slowly, at 6pm. He filled it up, found the (huge) leak, filled it with the tire composite, and sent me off for the grand total of $0 dollars. He's fixed a tail light for me in about an hour, put on new brakes for a very reasonable price, and now fixed this huge inconvenience in about 10 minutes total time. I think one time I also rolled in there without an appointment (he's actually pretty busy), and he took off an un-needed piece from the bottom of the car that was rattling around, again for no cost. The guy puts every other auto repair shop to shame. Plus he's a super nice guy. I was in such disbelief that he would fix a tire so quickly, for $0, that I had to write this. To the Firestone's of the world, I now hate you even more. read more
