I'm not really sure how this place has 4.5 stars. I brought my car in for a battery change. When I went I left the car. A couple of hours later I had to follow up. Then they forgot to look at the brakes. Ugh! Then when I went to Zelle him he didn't even recognize his own writing. Asked me how much he quoted me. This was on 9/22/25. 2 weeks later. I have a completely dead battery (called AAA for a jump). Goes on to tell me that I left the lights on or something. That I should disconnect the battery every night. If you're a female, have a guy take it. I'm sure this wouldn't have happened otherwise. read more

Would not recommend at all. I brought my car in to get an estimate on fixing the brakes and was not impressed with the experience. 1) They charged me $30 for the estimate. This was never mentioned to me when I talked with Raul about checking out the brakes. Of course the $30 BS estimate fee would conveniently be removed as long as I agreed to their ridiculously high repair estimate. 2) Their estimate was almost double what I ended up paying at another shop in the neighborhood. I brought my Nissan Sentra to Raul's Repair Services after their quote and response on Yelp for a radiator. You can also give the assist to fellow Yelper - Alex A, who endorsed this repair shop as well. I brought my vehicle in 30-minutes after the shop opened because I felt that the sooner I brought it in the sooner it would be completed. I felt anxiety from not knowing how much it would cost for my radiator repair after visiting 'Wons Auto Werks' on N Western Ave who's price was in the $600 range. Once I sat down with Raul to give him my information, he assured me the cost would be $280 and the expected finishing time would be a little under 3-hours which relieved me of that anxiety. Prior to visiting I had planned to drop my car off and pick it up in a few days, but had no idea that I would be leaving with my car the same day. As the mechanic worked on my car I burned 3-hours visiting businesses within Avondale neighborhood, then returned with minutes to spare before my car was completed. It was a relief before leaving Raul's to pop the hood of my car to see a different radiator then driving off with no worries of it smoking. I definitely recommend Raul's Repair Services because of their reasonable prices and convenient repair time. Prior to getting in my car I made it no secret that I was satisfied with the service with plans to return for future repairs. I've been coming here for a few years now. I had brought 2 of my cars in for an oil change and new brakes but one of my car was having some other issues, there where a few lights that came on and when I booked the appointment they got me in right away. They would show me what the issue were, how much it would cost and how long it will take. And let me tell you, they are quick and their prices are so reasonable. I used to go to a neighborhood auto shop for over 7+ years but they will always give me ridiculous prices and I will always have to bring my car back in days later after they "fixed"'the problem so I finally had enough!! I chose Raul's based on the sterling Yelp reviews. Yelp rarely steers me wrong but this time was an exception. After suspecting a gas leak in my car, I called Raul at 9 am on a Saturday to ask if he had availability to service my car. He said to bring it right in. Less than 40 minutes later, I had the car at his shop. He then told me he could not service the car because he had too many cars to do that day! I reminded him that I had just called and he told me to bring it in and he just shook his head and said he couldn't do it. No apology at all! Then he said I could leave the car with him and he could look at it at the end of day. I asked him if he was able to back that promise and TRULY look at it by end of day and he shrugged and said, "Maybe." HUH??? I have rarely been to a less professional and custom-centric service business! My car is old AF, but it gets me to point A to point B so I keep it and also because I've had it for over 18 years, I love it. Though I have neglected it in recent years, I still do my best to invest in it when necessary, like when your plates expire and your check engine light has been on forever and you get a ticket, you know times like that. lol. Thinking it wasn't a big fix, I dropped it off at a shop close to the train station and the quote they gave me brought me to tears and shame. Told my boyfriend and he said let's get another opinion. Since the pricey shop was able to tell me exactly what they thought was wrong, I had solid info to give to other auto shops for quotes. Shopped around via Yelp and Raul's was the first to respond! I hate calling so this is such a wonderful option. Other shops never replied, shame on them! But really liked the reviews so was super glad that Raul's replied. Their quotes in writing were absolutely fair and saved me a ton of money compared to the first shop I took it to. I also had a gas leak that they needed me to bring the car in for them to look at for a proper quote. Took the car in - they have a great driveway port, so just rolled in! And within a couple of hours Raul Jr. called me with their findings. Saved me money in the long run because he didn't find TWO of the supposed 5 things wrong that the other shop advised. Said those two issues (valve vents or what not) were working fine currently and should be able to pass the test. Boom. Money saved. Gas leak? Yes. Did I smell it? No. What the hell. LOL. Quote he gave was half of what I was told at bad shop. He even complimented whoever worked on my brakes before, said they did a good job. Really, who does that? At the end of the day, I am a very pleased customer and will be happy to refer everyone to this shop, as well as come back (hopefully not, but most likely so, ha ha). REALLY GOOD PEOPLE HERE. I'm not sure where to begin...for the past couple years I've brought my Dodge Caliber 2012 in to Raul's and they are always excellent. Excellence has been a consistent experience. if I could give zero stars I would I took my car to have water pump replaced timing chain and many other things when I got my car back it was making noises from chain I took back 6 times he claimed he did not hear anything would not even check job they did another belt they replaced broke I had to have fixed at another mechanic that told me they put belt in wrong that mechanic heard the noise from my car said it's timing chain to take it back to rauls took back several times he claims he never hears noise just to not fix or take responsibility for what they did now what this mechanic did to my car had cost me my car the timing chain exploded inside motor etc I had to go buy another car resulting from this if you don't want to lose your car to bad work being done do not take to this shop you will regret it they don't know what they doing I have proof of everything that was done and also taking it numerous times to be checked the job they did they will refuse to honor the warranty in writing on they paper receipt they give you they are breaking law I have year warranty they refuse to honor it read more

I took my car here to get an oil leak checked out. They did a full inspection of my car and found some other issues. That was great! I'm glad they found the problems before it got worse. Raul (the owner) was throwing out prices of the repairs I needed. On my calculator it was one price but some how on Raul's it was $300 more. When I asked where did the $300 extra come from, he ignored me. I asked if labor was negotiable and he said sure. He called the mechanic into the office and asked him what can he do about the labor charge? The mechanic walked out of the office and immediately started texting Raul who he literally just walked away from. I don't know what was so secretive but it was weird. I did get a couple gaskets changed from them for $500 and paid $30 for them to clean my engine to see if the oil leak was fixed. I still have to go back for the follow up inspection of the gaskets. They seemed to know what they were talking about but the secretive texting and extra unexplained charge was confusing. I'm still iffy if I'll go back. Like I said they know what their talking about but the prices could be better and explained better. read more

My daughter's car broke down on a Saturday night. The alternator went out completely. I had the car towed to my home and needed to find an amazing mechanic. I sent out a quote and of course it being a Sunday I didn't think I would hear from anybody. Raul responded immediately with a quote. We had the car towed on Sunday night and left it at the shop. Monday Morning (today) Raul and his team worked on the car immediately not only did they replace the alternator, belt and front brakes. He texted me pictures and was amazing with his service. They took my vehicle in quickly and informed me of the problem, I was the same as quoted (which I might was a fair and responsible price)! I cannot recommend Raul's enough. Have you ever heard of the project management tradeoff between speed, quality, and cost? They say you can only choose two of those factors - but Raul's is remarkable in consistently providing all three. We had a particularly troublesome situation where what seemed to be a simple repair just couldn't get solved. We moved into the state a couple of years ago and when we had to renew our registration failed the emissions test. We knew this was due to an ongoing problem with a coil pack that we had been dealing with for a while (but not taking too seriously b/c our home state doesn't do emissions testing). Basically a different coil pack would go out every other month and we were getting them replaced but really slowly. Based on my prior experience of trying to get this repair done with a good mechanic back home, I knew how much the part cost and what the labor was. A guy at the emissions place recommended 'his buddy' across the road for the repair, when I called they quoted me literally 4x what I knew the cost should be (the repair shop across the street from the Skokie Illinois Air Team location, in case you're curious...). That's when I started looking around and found Raul's. I called a few places and it was Raul's that gave me the price I had been paying for the repair back home. Even though Raul's is about 35 minutes away from us, I decided that I would rather deal with someone that seemed to be honest from the get-go. It ended up being that the repair required wasn't quite as simple as the coil. Raul's proceeded logically, starting with the cheapest/quickest possible options to fix, trying to pin down exactly what the issue was. When all was said and done, it took about 4 trips to the shop to get it finished. My husband has some experience with repairs on our model of car previously, we scoured forums about the issues, and kept in touch with our old mechanic so that we understood the logic of how they were going about trying to fix the problem. Although the repair was annoying and troublesome, it was clear that Raul's was working in a way to try and save us money. One thing I was consistently astounded by was how fast they were each time the car went in, and ultimately how much money they opted not to charge us because of the trouble. I remember one time I took it in I asked if they could go ahead and change out a squeaky flywheel on the serpentine belt track - I swear that as soon as they pulled the car in the bay they had popped the trunk and were whipping the belt out! Any work we were charged for was pretty much at the cheapest price we could get. After figuring out how to go about the repair (it required doing a bunch of other stuff unrelated to the error code), they ended up taking our car into the Emission Testing station themselves and getting it cleared for us! Well I had been coming to Raul for years...even before he got on Diversey Ave. But this last time was like 6 weeks ago and my car is still having a problem which I had Raul and his guys fix as he no longer does the work. It's crazy to me that you trust someone to fix something and pay them for the work to find out 6 weeks later the work wasn't done. Then you call him and their response is buy the part and we'll install it cheap....ummmm no I'm not going to pay you for something I already paid you for. At this point, I would just have to say is be careful and maybe double check to make sure the work is being done correctly the first time so it's not double the cost. read more

I took my 2000 Ford Explorer in because it failed emissions testing, and Raul's Service gave me an estimate of $300 to fix it. Once I gave them the go-ahead, they had it ready in a day, and they advised me how to drive it to reset the car's computer and prepare it for retesting. I needed a new muffler (which I knew would need to be replaced) and a new oxygen sensor (also not a big surprise.) the total for the work was $290, under the estimate, and I passed emissions tests the same day. I needed work on my Mazda because it wasn't running. I contacted this location. They had it ready for me on the same day. Then I had another issue where my started completely stop working. I called them again they had my car ready in 2 days. I get it's the weekends it's busier. That's better than the other dealership I use to take it to. He would make me wait in order to check my car and charge me $75 just to check it. I recommend Raul's Repair shop for sure.
