Been coming to Davila for almost a decade. Fast, reliable, and honest every time. Always flexible, I always have a last minute request when I'm picking up the car (something I forgot to mention the first time) and they'll take care of it right away. Up front about pricing, they put thought into giving you the most value. Never had a service tech apologize up front for the cost of a repair... a couple of years ago they basically replaced my entire suspension (Chicago streets....) and service tech suggested to reduce the cost to only replace the worst components right now and delay some less critical components for 6 months because they could last a little longer. I asked him to just replace everything right now. But again, when's the last time a tech put thought into balancing cost vs value for you? I left a 5 star review awhile back for how kind and quick the service was. However, I have just been to a new mechanic and learned I was lied to. My exhaust pipe fell off/was dragging behind my car a couple years ago, came in to Davila, they said they had to replace the whole thing because it was too rusted to weld back on so I paid for (what I thought was) a new one for $1k. I recently went to a new mechanic because I now have an exhaust leak with a cracked y pipe. They just called to say my entire exhaust is made of old pieces all patchworked together, which was never discussed with me at Davila. Now I'm dropping $500 to fix. Never coming back. read more

The mechanic said that it can he one of two things. We can try the first will cost about $1000, but if that doesn't solve it, then the 2nd is $1800. So could have been in potentially $3800. Took it to A & A Automobile Service and Kevin fixed it for $450. Do not take your vehicle here. read more

I have been a customer of Davila Auto Service for over 25 years. Now that I am retired and do not use the car as often I don't see them much but recently when I needed them they cane up in a big way. I had a check engine light warning come on so I made an appointment with Jaime to bring the car in. On the day I brought the car in they were running a little behind, so Jaime called me to let me know and what he was doing to correct the problem. I had mentioned that I needed the car to pass the emissions test by the end of the month because my license plates were expiring. Jaime and the mechanical staff corrected the ECM problem and with my permission took the car for a test ride to the testing station, you do not get that type of attention anywhere! Of course the car passed the test and my 24 year old Toyota Solara car is running like new. Not only on this job has Davila Auto Service gone above and beyond. A year ago I had to replace all the brake lines due to rust and old age, when the car came back to me I was not satisfied with the braking power. Davila Auto Service did not argue with me they simply went back to recheck and correct the problem bringing the ABS system back to factory standards. The mechanics are certified and very knowledgeable. The receptionist, Gisella is very pleasant and efficient in explaining the bill, the work done, and the warrantee. I come here for all of my Auto service needs. I only trust Aaron (the manager) with my car. The service is fast, efficient, and entirely honest. As mentioned in previous reviews, the guys and gals at Davila Auto Service clearly care about integrity and customer service. Every employee I have interacted with is always willing and able to help, even going above and beyond to help me when my car died and I needed a new battery in a pinch. Prices are incredibly reasonable in regards to the services rendered. Lastly, entirely unrelated - there are a lot of great lunch options in the area (especially on Cermak) and all of the guys have great recommendations on where to go in the neighborhood. I recently had my vehicle towed to Davila Auto Service on 21st and Ashland with my engine light on. As a first time customer I wish I had done my research, but figured they have been in business for 30 years and are a local shop. My car was in their shop for a couple days and was told I needed to change cylinder 5 injector on my engine and would cost $527.00 ($110 an hour and the part itself $206) I approved the work and was called at the end of day to pick up my vehicle as work had been completed and they had test drove the car and no issues arose. I went in to pick up my vehicle, walked into their office and signed the receipt and even tipped them. As Jaime (manager) walked me to my vehicle he said "oh by the way these lights (airbag light and traction control light) came on as we were test driving it in the rain, we feel that maybe because of the rain and dirt they came on. Has this ever happened to you?" I replied with "No, never in the 7 years that I've owned my car has that happened." He replies with "If it doesn't come off in a couple days bring it back and we will take care of it " As I was driving home, which is also in the neighborhood, I realize my steering wheel is not aligned. My vehicle has no issues with alignment. I drove it back to Davila's the next morning at 8 A.M when they open and tell Jamie about my steering wheel and how the lights need to come off my dash as they were not there before. He says ok leave it and we'll take a look at it. He never calls me until I call him at the end of day to ask why he hasn't called me. He says they have been busy and will call me back, he calls me at 6:40 P.M. to tell me that there's a part in the steering wheel that needs to be replaced and that they will cover the labor but that I'd be responsible for the part. I of course am not happy to hear this as I had none of those issues before. I speak with him nicely and ask why they are making me responsible for something they did. He arrogantly says nothing is going to change, we will not pay for the part. I am sadden that as a woman it is already hard to find a trustworthy and honest mechanic and trusted the local shop in the neighborhood and they could care less to make things right. Has anyone had to deal with Davila's before? Encounter the same issue as I did? Also any one thinking of taking your vehicle to them, be aware of this business. read more

I got my truck towed over there for nothing and I got even think they work or look at my truck and trying to charged me money for doing nothing to my truck and I had to pay an other tow man to bring it back ! These guys came recommended to me by AAA. From start to finish the entire process was one of the most pleasant one's I've ever had and I have never said that about taking my car into any auto repair. 1. They have a tow service available (cheaper than if you have to pay for AAA) 2. Someone called me right a way with an estimate that I thought was only for parts but turns out for parts and labor. 3. I asked him to check on something else for me and he did a free estimate. He was completely understandable when I told him I would have to come back for that. 4. AAA members get a 5% discount. 5. And throughout the whole time I had to keep calling them and begging them to find out what was wrong with my car and how could they fix it. I went here for the first time after my car got broken into and the steering column needed to be replaced; it was the only auto shop that AAA would tow to for free. They tried to tell me that it would be around $500 to replace the steering column. Luckily, my father is a mechanic who was able to talk them into doing some re-wiring that cost $40 (although it meant I had to start my car with a screwdriver, but for that price I didn't care). I went back when I had an exhaust leak, and the Ashland location told me they weren't equipped to fix that. They sent me to the location in Summit (63rd and Harlem) and I went along with it because they said it would be a quick, simple procedure. It wasn't. I got there at 9AM and left at 2PM, and I was very glad I brought a book with me because there is nothing to do in Summit. A few days later, I realized they had forgotten to completely solder the exhaust pipe to the car, so every time it hit a bump in the road it would bang and clang. It took me a while to carve out enough time to go back to Summit for them to fix their mistake. They told me then that they had used the wrong size tailpipe for my car (an Oldsmobile, shouldn't be that difficult) and I would need to come back again so they could switch it out. I said no thanks! All I can say is try to stay educated about what your car really needs, or you will get taken for a ride. read more

I called the manager at Davilla auto repair, on Thursday, and he asked me what time I could come in, to find out why my fans were not working, and I told him, Friday, at 8 am. After one hour, I was told that it was an electrical problem, and he didn't have the time to inspect it further. They are supposed to be certified, yet, they couldn't figure out why my car fans, wasn't working. I will never go back again. read more

These guys are great and super honest. I don't have a garage so somethings have to be done there. My wife took her car there for a brake pad replacement and they only replaced what needed replacing. Told her it needed nothing more than brake pads and that was it. Another time, my brakes failed and I had to go there ASAP. I was strapped for cash and Gabino was super honest. He got my car on a lift and showed me that all it needed was a brake line that had ruptured. He fixed it and the owner accepted a check. 45 minutes is all it took. I sent my buddy there and they were totally honest and let him know that his truck needed no repair as it was just a common noise from his truck. NO charge for the assessment. When you go there ask for Gabino. This dude is rad and so is his boss. read more

Please avoid. We went to Davila due to a friend's referral. However, the service we received was disappointing. The mechanic suggested we change about 6 different parts including an air filter and the spark plugs which he claimed were not even the correct plugs for our car. After giving an outrageous estimate for this laundry list of items, we asked if it would fix our car's original problem with intermittently dying due to heat. He said he would have to check the car again to see if something needed to be changed. This was the reason we brought the car there and communicated this at the start. We left and received a second opinion. Their claims were unsupported and unhelpful. And those spark plugs were the CORRECT plugs already. Beware... Don't get swindled. read more

They charged me $600 dollars to change an alternator! Thats just too much. I asked the owner if the alternator was new and he said yes when I looked up the product it ended up being a used one that was just remanufactured. He told me that it was almost $300 for the alternator when in reality it is only $170. I am never going back. read more

I cannot say enough about these guys! My 2013 Toyota Highlander was towed to Davila, suggested by AAA, because my engine wasn't running right and some dash lights turned on. I was hesitant because my car had only been to a dealership, my experience was great! Turns out a rat (welcome to Chicago) had made its way into my engine and chewed some of the wiring!! They showed me everything (gross) and assured me they would inspect everything and replace what was necessary. I called back a couple of hours later - they had fixed everything and the charge was $210!!! I thought this was a steal - I'm sure the dealership or a dishonest mechanic would have taken me for a ride. When I picked up my car, they were so concerned that it not happen again. DON'T TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!! I took my car to get fixed at this place because there was a weird noise happening whenever I hit the brakes. They told me I needed new brakes, so they replaced all of the brakes. Then about a month later the sound came back again. So, again, I took the car in and this time they said that since the brakes were under warranty, I wouldn't be charged anything for the service; I thought great! They said they fixed what was probably the problem... A week later the noise came back, AGAIN. By this time I had moved to the north side and frankly did not want to deal with them again, so I took the car to a place by me. The new mechanic said that the rear brake shoe was cracked and needed to be replaced and that whoever installed the brakes did not do a good job because it wasn't adjusted correctly and they didn't refill the grease (which may have caused the shoe to crack). The guy offered me a reasonable deal, so instead of having to deal with Davila again, I decided to PAY another time rather than having them do it for free (it very clearly would have been under warranty), since they couldn't get it right the first two times. read more

Took my car in for a rough running . Had the to sit in the car and showed him what it was doing. Call me back in about a week and said the car was ready. When I drove the car nothing was working like when I brought it in. My radio was not working, the heater/defroster wasn't working lighter in front not working. Don't stay away from this place RUN AWAY from this unrepairable joint. What cost me a small amount now turn into $ 1600 out of my pocket if I want to correct the problem that this place cause. If you want your car mess up, this is the place to take it to.Worst place in Chicago. Have taken my cars over 40 yrs to shop, had some issue but never like this clip joint. NEVER!! NEVER!!! again. I will recommend this shop to friends and family. Went to take my car to pass the emissions test, and it failed, I went to a machanic and was told that it needed a new catalytic converter. I was quoted $1,060.00. A friend referred me to Davila Auto Service, they changed some filters, changed the oil, and was told to go back to emissons. Well my car passed the test!!
