This is what the dent looks like after Orlando popped it out FOR FREE. I wish I took a before picture, but the entire piece was dented in.

I never write reviews. It takes either an intensely good or bad experience to motivate me to take the effort to write about it. But I had such an outstanding experience with this mechanic, I felt so compelled to write this review on google/yelp. I brought my car in recently for a regular maintenance check. I met Orlando, who looked the car over, and told me what I'd likely need done. Then, he spotted a huge dent on my car that I'd had for years. Without me even asking, he got a suction and popped it out for me for free!! Btw, I've had this dent for years and brought it to 5-6 auto shops throughout NYC and Chicago that all quoted me $700. But Orlando was honest and real with me, and said if I was driving in the city, there's no reason for such an expensive fix. Orlando is SO honest, fair, and thoughtful (for example, because my car is under certain mileage, he used company-specific parts in case my car is under warranty and I need to take it to the dealer in the future). If fixing the dent was any indication, he really just wants to help fix your car without upcharging. And he's quick, knowledgeable, and skilled. As someone who knows very little about cars, I always wondered how mechanics learn the large body of knowledge to fix all the different kinds of cars (like my 2019 Honda seems more computer than car sometimes), and it's clear that he's well experienced and read. Which really can't be said about everyone! Also, Orlando took the time to educate me about the interval of time to replace things, what I needed to look for, and even how to sand down/paint over my residual dent. I never even asked him to do all of this. He just makes the extra effort and clearly cares about his customers. I've NEVER had such a good experience with a mechanic! I referred him to my entire residency program. In a city full of auto shops, he's DEFINITELY worth the drive even if he's out of your neighborhood!! Please support this local business, everyone was wearing a mask in the pandemic, and he turned my car over within the day.

Orlando and his team are very honest mechanics. They are fairly priced and do a great job. Highly recommend them!

Unfortunately, after giving them multiple chances, the experience has been consistently disappointing. Each time I placed an order, they would call me back, recognize me by name, but never seemed to have my information or quote in front of them. I had to repeat what work I wanted done, review my paperwork again, and go through the same conversation each time. They also tried to talk me out of certain parts I requested, saying they weren't a good investment, but when I agreed to go with their suggestion, they said they'd call back in a couple of hours... and never did. This has happened three times now. At this point, it feels like they pick and choose which customers they want to deal with and which jobs are worth their time. For the customer, it ends up being a frustrating waste of time and energy. If you value clear communication, follow-through, and respect for your time, I would look elsewhere.

I can't say enough great things about Avondale Auto Repair, Nathan, Rick and their staff…read more As a first-time customer, I came in with what I thought was a simple issue--my 2017 Toyota RAV4 key fob suddenly stopped working. I'd replaced the battery before, so I tried that again... nothing. My (very mechanically inclined) husband tried too--still nothing. That kicked off the search for a replacement, and wow--what a frustrating experience. The dealership quoted me $600 to replace and program a new key. Automotive locksmiths were all over the place--$180, $250--and the whole process felt vague and transactional, like you couldn't get a straight answer without jumping through hoops. Then I found Avondale Auto Repair through the Costco Auto Program--and everything changed. Rick answered the phone, and within seconds I felt reassured. He was straightforward, knowledgeable, and refreshingly honest. Instead of trying to sell me something, he explained the pros and cons--how aftermarket keys often don't last, and how they source directly from the dealer but can usually save customers about $100. No pressure. Just real, helpful information. When I came in, that same feeling continued. The shop itself is clean, bright, and welcoming--nothing like the typical auto repair environment. Nathan (Rick's brother-in-law) was at the front desk and immediately made us feel comfortable. Friendly, genuine, and incredibly helpful. Before recommending anything, he opened up my key and inspected it to confirm it wasn't just a battery issue. That alone told me everything--I wasn't being upsold. They were actually trying to help. Then Rick came back from lunch and did the same thing again, just to double check. I paid a deposit and they said they'd call once they got the key from the dealership. It took a few days. Even though they were short-staffed they week of my FOB order, Nathan handled everything with professionalism and kindness. He called three different dealerships to track down my key (since it was out of stock everywhere), coordinated the order, and made the whole process seamless. When I came back to drop off my car, even the staff helping me park were warm and courteous--it's those small touches that really stand out. We used to have a go-to repair shop nearby, but after a change in ownership, it just hasn't been the same. Now, we've found our new place. Avondale Auto Repair didn't just fix a problem--they earned our trust. And that's everything. That's how you do it, Nathan and Rick!

Many other folks had the same idea, so I knew this place was reputable (in addition to all its great online reviews) They gave me a call by 10:30am letting me know they could fix the whirring with a new belt. Also identified my brakes were at their end of life and offered to replace. Their quote for 4 new brake pads was extremely reasonable. By 1:45 my car was done being serviced and I went back to pick it up. Easy check out. No line. Very nice staff. A complete success. Overall, I had a good experience with Ashland Tire & Auto. I brought my car in for exhaust repairs,…read moreand they completed the work the same day. The repair cost seemed fair, though on the higher end of the expected range. One issue came up afterward: when I picked up the car, the tire pressure light was on. I initially assumed it was nothing serious, but by the following evening, one tire was completely flat. To be clear, I understand there's no way to know for sure whether the tire was damaged while the car was at the shop or while I was driving it home or the following day. I genuinely acknowledge that uncertainty. That said, the timing concerned me. I took the car to Just Tires, where I had purchased all four of the tires in 2022. I was told that the flat tire could not be repaired and needed to be replaced. Replacing two tires, which is fairly typical (depending on tread wear and matching) was recommended. The total cost, including tax and installation, was about $575. I discussed the situation with Ken Papas at Ashland Tire, and I appreciate the way he handled it. He didn't dismiss my concern, but he also fairly pointed out that neither of us could pinpoint when the damage occurred. He offered $150 toward the replacement cost, which I accepted. I think that was a reasonable, good-faith gesture, even though covering the cost of one tire would have felt more satisfying. I'm leaving a positive review because the exhaust issue has been resolved (so I assume the original repair was done correctly) and because Ken handled an uncertain situation professionally. I'd consider using Ashland Tire & Auto again.
