I have been seeing Dr. Hughes for... wait for it... 44 years - since 1977. For all that time, I've experienced nothing but absolute professionalism and cleanliness. His staff is very polite. Regular dental care, X-Rays, and emergency repairs have always been carried out quickly, efficiently and expertly. Dr. Hughes himself has an excellent chair-side manner. His technicians are all great at cleaning with a delicate touch. I've watched his equipment and computers constantly evolve, always with the latest technology. As an example, I bit into a piece of improperly washed, farm-raised sashimi that contained an aquarium rock which broke my tooth. That afternoon, he scanned my broken tooth with some amazing scanner. Software devised a design for what was missing. I watched in astonishment as a computerized mill carved a cube of really hard replacement material into my personal missing piece. He then glued it in, and my tooth was repaired. I think this took 30 minutes. Why we do business with Dr Hughes... Fast - I timed my son's cleaning today as 20 minutes with no Xray. This coincidentally matches the estimate 20 minute cycle set of the massage chair in the waiting room. I enjoy this little relaxation therapy treatment each time I wait for my kid's visit. Helpful - They go the extra mile. When my son needed wisdom teeth pulled, the ortho doc wrote up orders for top two teeth only. I told the surgeon we wanted all four pulled together, they did not confirm my wishes. I told Linda at Dr Hughes who then got a new order to override the ortho doc order. Another example was when my crown shifted to irradiate my gum, Dr Hughes just filed it down in to fix the problem. No big deal; I could imagine another business making a big Bill deal about it. No oversell - Dr Hughes is focused on health of teeth. I have been to some newer dentists who tries to upsell on cosmetic work which are not covered by insurance. Makes me want to put a sticker on my dental bib that says "no soliciting". Personality - We don't spend too much time together since the dental hygienist does most of the work. But when Dr Hughes comes to verifies the health of teeth, he puts people at rest with his jolly personality; very conversational and funny. I think he would do well in Stand-up comedy. read more

I have been with Dr Hughes for over 35 years. He has always done great work and has always been reasonably priced. I feel he is so good because he loves what he does. His staff has always been very personable and great at dealing with your insurance. He even offers a generic type a plan if you don't have a plan that helps with most of the regular procedures. I was helping my brother-in-law, over 80, find a good dentist in Milpitas. He'd recently moved and tried a new dentist who said he needed $10,000 worth of dental work. I told him to get a second opinion. After researching, I felt Dr. Hughes was a good fit for him. He had a wonderful visit with Dr. Hughes, and was impressed with his decency and honesty and reasonable fees. Dr David W Hughes and his team is the best. They are very helpful! My wife was in pain with acute pulpitis, seeking help from dentists that perform root canal procedure. Dr Hughes provided immediate treatment by rearranging his tight appointments. By immediate, I mean right away, without asking us to wait many days, let along the fact that back then my wife had not even been his patient before. The root canal was perfectly done and my wife didnt feel any discomfort after the procedure. Moreover, Dr Hughes never proposed any treatment other than what is really needed. We feel so thankful for this. And Dr Hughes is such a fun person~! His assistants are not only very professional, but also very caring, checking with my wife how she felt during treatments. And here, I must give a thumb up to his receptionist. She knows insurance policy through and through. She helped us best use our insurance plan, saving us so much money. Chose this place after reading hyped google reviews and experienced the complete opposite. This place is highly overpriced and money-hungry and did not even provide the full split of what cost a simple filler 1000+ dollars. For a root canal, he referred me to a place where was an apprentice and when I reached his office I was the only patient in the room. Going on the same pathways as Hughes tried to overcharge me here as well. Fortunately, I ended up canceling my appointment after hearing their charge. But still ended up paying 200 USD as appointment fees. When I called him like a day before to know how much it will cost and they never gave me a number until I reached there. read more

So what if its inside of the mouth, the customer's choice has to be respected! 3. They refer to other specialists for any involved procedure but insist on doing the first sitting with them (will lose more in insurance) 4. My experiences with Dr. Hughes have always been that his office should be the very definition of the term "Family Dentist." He's very personable, his staff is too, he knows what he's doing, and every time my wife had work done we've noticed what care he takes and what pride he has in his work. My teeth have required very little work -- a few fillings needed to be replaced, but I've always felt he was open and honest with me. The one time he had to refer me to an outside oral surgeon, I felt very comfortable with the person he recommended. Highly recommended. He's upbeat & funny, quick with a joke or a deep technical explanation of what we're doing (remember catalysts from organic chem class?). Great dentist. I had been going to him because my whole family had been going here for years and he is great. I remember one time, I had a toothache and I walked in and he was able to see me and temporarily fix the problem until we could book an appointment for a root canal. I normally do not post reviews, but I felt compelled to post one about Dr. Hughes and his team. Growing up I've had my bad run ins with dentists. So when I was first searching for a dentist for my 3 yr old twin daughters I took them to a dentistry who specializes in children. The dentistry had video games, cartoons on tv and little dental chairs. I thought it was a great place! After my daughters were seen for the first time I was at the receptionist desk to make their next appt because they had a cavity each, a door opened up behind the receptionist and I saw a small boy that was in a straight jacket crying while he was being worked on and his mom was at his head wiping his tears away. I took my girls and walked out of that place! My neighbor recommended me to go to Dr. Hughes. It was the best thing I had ever done! My daughters loved him (well as much as you can love a dentist) and I eventually had a son and Dr. Hughes was so patient with him. My son would kick and bite Dr. Hughes and Dr. Hughes never got mad at him. Once my son did not want to be worked on so I was at the reception area rescheduling his appt. When I looked over to see what he was doing he was on Dr. Hughes lap and Dr. Hughes was showing him the different instruments and then working on his mouth at the same time! We have been going to Dr. Hughes now for 20 yrs and he is still the best! I've recommended many of my family members to him and they all say the same thing! As I was pregnant I just went for a check. He gave me a good explanation for one of my tooth that I believed to a cavity and finally was just a gum setting. He also offered some samples. That great to be able to test the products before using and I will buy some of them. The dentist, Mr Hugues was nice and the staff too. The staff took care of my insurance problem. I went to Dr. Hughes for several years. He's very friendly and I trust him. He is conservative with treatments and recommends treatment that will be most cost effective for the patient rather than the treatment that will be most profitable for him. (This is an important quality I have found too many dentists lack.) The only reason I left is because I lost my dental insurance and his prices were a little high. 5 stars if you have insurance. 4 stars if you don't. read more

I have a small mouth for someone of my age and I'm unable to tolerate great amounts of vibration and pain. Dr. Hughes is the best dentist in the area to go to, no exaggeration. It was actually hilarious how he and his receptionist Carol would come to Quickly back when I was working there, so we already had a rapport going (not that you need a previous rapport for them to be super friendly to you). Of course no one likes to go get their teeth cleaned and feel the embarrassment of not having brushed/flossed as often as you were supposed to. But even before getting my teeth cleaned, Dr. H said, "we're just so happy that you're even here. Now you can say it's only been one day since you got your teeth cleaned!" With the biggest smile on his face. Made me feel way better about my experience. Cleaning and x-Rays went well, no cavities. I was thinking I would have Dr. H extract my wisdom teeth in the near future, but he actually encouraged and referred me to proficient oral surgeons where I would pay a lot less out of pocket with my insurance. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually a little excited to go back in 6 months. Please have your whole family do business with Dr. H, you will not be disappointed. read more
