I am been seeing Dr. Luu for quite a while. I can confidently recommend people to him and know that their dental needs will be taken care of. He also takes time to educate patients on how to take care of their dental hygiene. Something I've learned is that I need to chew my food softly to prevent trauma to my gums so prevent further root canals. He also does all cleanings himself. The front office tends to be pretty accommodating when it comes to scheduling. Whenever I have a major issues, they do their best to get me in as soon as possible! I went here back in 2022 to get a cleaning. He had 4 dental assistants or hygenists on standby, but he proceeded to tell them he did NOT need help and he can do the cleaning himself. He would not give me the saliva ejector and I was drowning in water the entire time. He would ask me questions with my mouth open expecting me to answer them. Then proceeded to tell me to use the ejector that was on the rack. I started choking on the water and 2 of the concerned hygenists came over asking him if he needed help. The fact they had to COME OVER and offer help, it was so wrong. He shoo'ed them off like they're some pests. The poor girls just looked at each other and stood by the front desk doing nothing. I also had water dripping all over on the side of my face and splattered everywhere, nobody to wipe it because it was just him speed running the cleaning. After that traumatic event, I went to the front desk to ask about my wisdom teeth extraction thinking they would accept medi-cal because I called into the office beforehand asking if they accept medi-cal, to which they say yes. They then proceed to tell me that they don't accept my insurance and that I have to pay around $2,700+ for the extraction. Under medi-cal rules, your wisdom teeth could be covered if it's medically necessary. I told them that my wisdoms are causing me eating/biting issues. They would not tell my insurance this and proceed to BILL me for the wisdom teeth as a cosmetic procedure. I left immediately, never came back. Don't even know how this place had such a high rating, but seeing as they literally offer free services for "good reviews" it all make sense. Take the fake reviews out and he'll be at a 1.7 star at best. Edit: I also forgot to mention, before the cleaning, I asked him about a cracked filing I had and that there was a dark spot indicating a potential cavity. He kept shutting me down saying it was a stain, to which I asked him several more times whether he's sure it's not a cavity. He denied it being a cavity at all and I believed him. Turns out, 3 years later, this "stain" is now a full blown cavity and needs a root canal. He did not want to work on the cavity because I had medi-cal and he would not get paid well. He's willing to sabotage your teeth health over money. Stay away! read more

Please note: Dr. Kim Luu gives discounts for dental care for writing "good" reviews on Yelp. This is not one of them. This was my 5th time going to Dr. Kim Lu in 3 months for a cracked tooth and filling. The first filling broke 4 hours after the first visit on March 10, 2024. See attached photo of broken filling. My second replacement filling broke after 4 weeks that was put in on March 13. For 4 weeks, I endured prolonged pain and discomfort in my mouth while the filling was in. When I returned to his office for an emergency visit following his 2-week vacation, he said the issue had to do with my habit of grinding my teeth and having a strong bite. He then he mocked me for looking up remedies for my tooth on internet by reaching out to with Dr. Google. Dr. Luu kept telling me to purchase his pricey custom mouth guard and have a porcelain crown put over my cracked wisdom tooth. After I left on May 8, 4 hours later the third replacement filling broke, and I again notified his office. I came back on May 10th, Dr. Luu polished the cracked tooth and asked me to reschedule to redo the filling for a third time. He said I should have waited 24 hours and had jello in the meantime. I was not told that during any of my prior visits. Again, he kept pushing to purchase the more expensive porcelain crown for my wisdom tooth. He also told me that he once had to redo a filling for a patient seven times during the Great Recession. He blamed this stress on the patient at that time. I would be stressed too if I had to come back that many times to see a dentist for a filling. A few days later on May 13, I sought a second opinion from another dentist, Dr. XXXXXXXXXX, to check my tooth at another dental office. Dr. XXXXXXXXXX said Dr. Kim Luu should have used blue articulated papers when testing my bite after putting in my filing because my mouth is numb and I cannot feel my teeth. Dr. XXXXXXXXXX told me my filing should be covered for a year and to go back to Dr. Luu and ask him to use blue articulated papers. He also said the filing was probably put in too high which caused the discomfort. Finally on May 22, 2023, I saw Dr. Luu for the fifth time. I asked Dr. Luu to use articulated papers to test my bite because I would be numb from the filling procedure, as Dr. XXXXXXXXXX had said. Dr. Luu said he had used articulated papers in our previous visits. This is unequivocally false. This can be confirmed by recordings each of my visits. I never saw him use blue articulated papers on my tooth at any time. When I asked him to please use blue articulated papers, Dr. Luu got sensitive about this dental knowledge, the quality of his work, and the inconsistencies of his diagnosis. Rather, he blamed me for the cause of my repeated visits and tried to gaslight me, the patient. I again asked to put the filling in like he said two weeks ago. He refused to do the filling. If he had told me he would only polish my cracked tooth, I would not have taken time off my schedule. He said he would only polish my tooth, as he had done in the previous visit. I also told him that my tooth hurts and that food gets in between the crack with the broken filling. Dr. Luu's response was that food could not get in between the crack in the tooth. That simply is not true. It happens almost daily. This cracked tooth cannot stay "as is" per Dr. XXXXXXXXXX, the other dentist I saw. I left his office frustrated and upset. As a patient, Dr. Luu comes off as a know-it-all who, at his very core, is very incompetent at the science of basic dental practices. I told him that I was ashamed that he also graduated from my university. He needs more training and lacks empathy. As a dentist, he should take time to remember what he's actually said to his patients and be more attentive and thorough while treating them. He seems more interested in filling his wallet than caring for patients. read more
