I do not recommend Montague Hills Dentistry. Had a dentist I have seen for 8 years and was very satisfied. Was told I had good dental hygiene, few problems. Kaiser offers dental via Delta Care USA as part of my package plan. Saw my regular dentist for cleaning in 2025, no issues. Waited 5 months and decided to try the Kaiser plan dentist. Was assigned to this office. They had no openings for three months, but took the appointment anyway. They did numerous x-rays, more than I ever had experienced. Felt like they were trying to find something wrong with me. The dentist comes in looks in my mouth for about 8 seconds and then says I need deep cleaning and a cap that never gave me any problems removed and redone. He said a gap between that tooth and another would cause me to eventually cause a root canal. I did not agree. I knew I did not need deep cleaning or a cap removed and redone. I asked to just have my teeth cleaned. He refused to clean my teeth unless I agreed to deep cleaning and a new cap. I got up off the chair and left. Set up an appointment with my old dentist. My regular dentist cleaned my teeth, x-rayed the tooth that so called needed a new cap and found no problems. No deep cleaning needed. Obviously to me he was trying to drum up extra income for himself. Then weeks later his office staff calls to ask when would I like to have my cap redone. Unbelievable! I am reporting him to Kaiser Delta Care USA. Beware! read more

I had a filling that fell off on Monday night. I called Tuesday morning to see if I can get an appointment. The soonest available was Thursday. I had my original appointment booked at 6:20. Asked if I can come in earlier. they booked it at 3:40 then called again to see if I can come in at five because at 3:40 appointment never got booked. I got there at 4:50 was not seen till 5:20 and stated that yes I would need to get a filling done and that I would have to come back. This dental office is in insurance network. However, they use items not covered by insurance in the treatment. For example, D4265 (Biologic materials, $105) is commonly used in extraction. Insurance covers 80% so that you only need to pay $21. However, this office uses A10065 (Colaplug , $250) instead of D4265 (Biologic materials). Insurance doesn't cover A10065! You have to pay out of your pocket. The similar item is (0006) Zirfit Crown. The insurance doesn't cover it. You have to pay yourself. Why make patients' life so hard? read more

I chose this Dentist due to the reviews on Yelp. My issue is the lack of communication, shady billing, and violation of my HIPAA rights. During my visit, the dentist told me I had cavities behind my braces (brackets) and I needed to take my brackets off prior to getting them treated. I made an appt with my ortho but I forgot the paper with the listings on them. I called and the receptionist to inquire if she could fax them. She was very rude and said they are on my molars. As a result, my ortho said they wouldn't have to take my brackets off. (I could have started treatment a while back if I had known this information). I've only had 1 cavity in my life and after coming here I was told I had 6 more. When my ortho looked at my mouth he said he couldn't see any and recommended I get a second opinion. 2) My husband went here too and was told he needed over 500$ worth of cleanings? What? 3) I asked for a copy of my daughter's chart because they billed a "debridement" but NO ONE communicated that she had a wound or infection that needed to be cleaned. Additionally, They refused to give me her chart after I asked. This is in violation of my rights under HIPAA. The lack of communication, shady billing practices, and HIPAA violations are a no for me. My appointment was 10:30 and waited for 35 min 'til I got called In. It took exactly 5 minutes to clean my teeth by the dental assistant. While she used the cleaning tools to scrape my teeth and water was plashing and dripping all over my face and neck. Of course she's not a dental hygienist or Dentist to perform the procedure that why she did a horrible job. My biggest mistake when selected this dental office in the first place. It has taken me years to find a dentist that I felt comfortable with as I am just terrified of them. The first time I went into the office the front desk staff are amazing and very friendly including the hygienist. On my appointment consultation I spoke to the dentist Dr Celis and we went over some options on what we could do in my situation he took his time explaining everything and that's how I knew that he was the right dentist. One thing I'm terrified about is the injections to numb you I didn't even feel that at all he also had to extract two teeth I did not even feel when he did that . The first thing they want to do is Extract your money from your wallet and then they do shoddy work. They cant do root canals so they swap it out to their other dentist friend. I have been a patient at this clinic for several years and I have always received a great service not only from both of Dr. Celis but also from their entire staff. I have had major treatments including 5 crowns, fillings, and cosmetics and I couldn't be happier with their work and the quality of the materials they use. Dr. Celis have replaced some of my old crowns which were not old at all but were just coming apart and since, my new crowns (which by now are 2-3 year old) are still in perfect condition and beautifully done. Nobody likes to go to the dentist and that is a well known fact, however Drs Celis made every visit a pleasant one. The staff was super friendly and professional. The office is clean as a whistle and parking is not an issue. I had to come back a couple of times as I had a small infection on my gums, which was treated in time and with no further consecuences. One of the things that caught my attention since the beginning was the fact that they use the latest technology, it may seem expensive but it's worth every penny. When I was in elementary school, one of my front tooth got chipped and I had to get a porcelain crown. Throughout the years the metal underlying the crown's porcelain started to show a dark line which was very embarrassing! When I went to Dr. Celis, he recommended a new LAVA technology. for a crown Dr. Celis and his staff made the process painless and easy. My new LAVA crown looks so natural and even feels natural. I can definitely see and feel the difference between my old crown. People are always amazed when I tell them my front tooth is a crown. I've also had my silver fillings replaced to match the color of my teeth. Dr. Celis and his staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The office itself is very clean and modern. This is such an unprofessional and unethical office. I called since yesterday and continued today to get my husband in on an emergency appt because his lower partial needed an adjustment which was causing severe pain and discomfort . The front desk said she would need to check my insurance and also had to talk to the doctor. She called back and said manager Juanita wasn't in and that she handled this kind of emergency and also said doctor would not adjust his partial cause he didn't do that kind of procedures...What kind of doctor would refuse seeing a patient either because I had delta dental HmO or was too busy to see us...I was told to call back today at 10am to talk to Juanita but she called in sick and they were short handed....I do not recommend this office they don't care about taking care of their patients I wouldn't give then any ratings . read more

I recently selected Montague Hills Dentistry based on the reviews I saw here on Yelp. However, I am disappointed and extremely frustrated with the service I received from their staff. My new insurance listed my co-payments very clearly, but Montague Hills Dentistry insisted that their schedule of benefits listed that I had to pay over $150 more than my co-payment for the services I needed. I faxed them my schedule of benefits, which I had downloaded from my insurance's web site, and then Montague Hills decided to DROP my insurance plan...that seems sketchy to me... To make matters worse, Tracy, the manager/receptionist/etc., was incredibly rude. Her tone was harsh and she refused to let me speak to her supervisor, she claimed she was her own supervisor. They dropped my plan after they suggested my follow-up services, but would not give me my X-rays to take to a new dentisit, a dentist I had to find because they decided to drop my plan. They wanted to charge me yet again to give me a copy of my X-rays (my insurance representative said they are supposed to at least transfer the X-rays digitally to my new dentist at no cost). This business may look shiny and pretty in their online pictures, but they are more concerned with making money than customer satisfaction and service, and I for one do not want people like that taking care of my dental needs. And the service? My entire exam and cleaning took 15 minutes. Dr. Celis did both, and he did not floss my teeth. I sure do miss my old dentist, Dr. Dirocco in Berkeley, I wish he was covered on my current plan... read more

Dr. Celis is this wonderful dentist who is just blessed with the lightest hands on the planet! I've been coming here for 3 years now and it has always been a pleasant experience. I've had my 4 wisdom teeth extracted and yes, it was painful, but he did it quick. He's very meticulous with cleaning and is also really nice, making sure im doing fine and am comfortable. the dental assistants are also very helpful and knowledgeable. they are very much trained well in this facility. What i also like is that they call me for whatever's due. cleaning or follow up appointements. With my busy schedule...that's the last thing i would ever remember doing. The office itself is really clean. the equipments are all still covered in plastic and the atmosphere is so light and relaxing. even the bathroom is a complete zen. CUSTOMER BEWARE!!! - TOTAL RIP-OFF & OVERCHARGE YOUR INSURANCE!!! Lately I have been having the worst experience ever at this place. I have been going to Montague Hill Dentistry for several years and never had a cavity my entire life, even prior coming to this location. The day I came in for my appointment and mentioned to the front desk that I now have Dental insurance, was when all of the sudden "Dr. Oscar Celis" now says I have 3-4 cavities during my checkup. I was shock to hear such a thing and trusted them to fix the problem areas... which was my first mistake. The next 3 visits I came in, they kept finding more cavities, this was getting ridiculous and now I really questioned them because I have always been very careful with my teeth and gums, but they are so MONEY HUNGRY that they use up all of my insurance money for each visit. They try to push you to get fillings or bonding done so they can charge you more and your insurance more but they don't come straight out and say it, they use "SCARE TACTICS" to convince you to do it. Just to give you an example of how much they over charge, they charge $80+ just for mouthwash. I asked them what is so special about your magic mouthwash that taste exactly like Listerine and they chuckled and laugh knowing that what they are doing is wrong and never gave me an answer. The dental insurance doesn't even cover the entire cost for this magic mouthwash and you end up paying part of it out of pocket. That's just mouthwash, god forbid if they convince you into fillings or bonding. I'm not the only person who have reported about these FRAUDULENT SCAMS that Montague Hills Dentistry performs on their patients. Read the other reviews and not the 5 Star review that their own staff have given themselves or asked their friends/family to do. read more

I can't say enough about the two brothers who are the best dentists I've encountered. They immediately put me at ease and have a "home town" vibe that makes you feel like an old friend. They are very professional and use the latest techniques and state of the art equipment. I had regular visits (2-4 per month) over a year and a half period while using Invisalign. I will soon relocate to Southern California and wish I could take these guys with me. They will be a tough act to follow. read more

I just went there for normal annual cleaning. doctor i saw told me i need deep cleaning, and other cavity fillings etc etc. it would cost me 700 dollars, and my insurance would not cover it. when i asked for my x-ray - it would cost 50 dollars. This is my first visit with Dr. Oscar Celis to have my (broken) wisdom tooth extracted for the 1st time in my life (1st tooth) ever! I was nervous and uncertain but Dr Celis answered my questions and assured that there should be no pain at all. After 2 shots of local anesthesia, Dr. Celis worked fast, pulled it, stitched it with a collagen types of plug to fill the hole. The whole procedures, I felt NO PAIN, just pulling pressure. I am a patient of this practice for over 7 years. Never had any issues. Do all my dental work here. Staff is always friendly and honest. Never pushy! These days we have so many choices, right? Needless to say, we live 40 miles away from the office but we still keep this practice as our primary dental provider due to high quality and technologically excellent team. I saw some negative reviews posted here. When it comes to medical costs it is always the situation when people are quick to suspect doctor of over-charging. But come on, how can you post 1* review after being a patient for a few years? I would understand if someone walks out and not satisfied with the service after the first visit. This dentist Oscar Celis office is very unprofessional. They cancel my appt 3 times already before I ever had a chance to go in. I have been waiting for over 3 months to get this appt. because they said they were busy and all booked up. So I waited forever this appt on Monday after waiting so many months. Someone from the dentist called me on a Friday to cancel my appt on Monday because she said there's an emergency. I think her name was Danielle. But not sure if it was Juanita. Anyways it was rescheduled for the next day which was Tuesday. I asked her if they will make sure they won't cancel that appt since I'm not allow to bring my baby and other kids to the appt. She told me no kids allow. So I said ok I'll make childcare arrangement. Then on Monday, I get a call from Juanita who said she was the office manager. I was out at that time. She told me that she has to cancel my appt again because of a emergency. I told her they already cancel and I had already made arrangements for my kids to be watched. She told me she can fit me next week at 11am. I said fine. I'll take that appt. A few hours later, I called to confirm my appt since I never got a text or email from Juanita. Danielle answered the phone a few hours later and told me my appt is moved back to 3.5 weeks later. I was so mad. I asked why they kept canceling my appt. I am well past my 8 months of wait. I'm not going to wait another month. I asked Danielle can they move up some other patients because it's not fair they keep canceling my appt. She told me because I'm a new patient, the other patients are a priority. I said but this is not fair. Please make an exception because it was not my fault they keep having emergency and canceling my appt. I, of course was mad. I raised my voice because I'm frustrated that I have to make my day and time available and make arrangements for my kids and they act like I'm not important just because I'm a new patient. And I'm pretty sure due the circumstances, they should be able to make an exception and squeeze me in. Then Juanita (office manager) took the phone from Danielle and told me because I'm being rude, she will cancel my appt which was set for almost another month back and I am no longer welcome as a patient. I called my insurance and file a report. They said what they did is wrong and I have a right to be frustrated because I didn't expect Juanita to just cancel my appt didn't care about why I'm so frustrated. I have a life too. I can't keep making appt and they keep saying they there's an emergency. Juanita shows no concern about how a person feels and how busy their lives can be. All she care about it taking patients who have better insurance. I understand that Danielle was just doing her job and maybe I should not raise my voice at her but I was upset. But for Juanita to take the phone and gave me no warnings or bother talking to me when I was just saying I'm sure they can make some accommodations to fit me in the schedule sooner, she just cancel my appt. She's heartless knowing I have kids and I'm very busy and yet my appts keep getting pushed back.
