I really enjoyed my breakfast platter of pancakes, eggs, and sausage (all for just 4.95!). I was impressed by the large menu selection; they even have smoothies, burgers, grilled cheese, cheesesteak, gyro, and sweets like brownies, cookies, and banana pudding. The buttermilk biscuits looked really good.. maybe I'll get a breakfast sandwich next time. There are a few seats in the front, and a ton more tables in the back. My co-workers used to go here regularly to get lunch! I usually try to pick from their daily specials menu in order to try something new every time. They also list their specials on their website! I love the great customer service here, how fast the food comes out and the portions! We thought we would give this place a try since it was near our hotel. What a nice surprise. You order at the counter & a waiter brings your food to the table when it's ready. We both had the D&D Breakfast platter - two eggs, choice of meat, potatoes, & toast - for $5.75 and it was incredible! My husband went two more mornings while I was attending a conference. Came in and ordered French toast with bacon. I was unable to enjoy it because there was hair on my food. The guy at the register was very friendly and helpful and asked if I wanted it remade but at this time I was grossed out. Walked to the register to pay for my juice and when the cashier explained to the owner or manager that there was hair in my food he still expected me to pay as if I caused a loss of profit. Cute deli in the Mt Vernon area of Baltimore. We stayed at a hotel just a few blocks away. The hotel food was not great so we came here instead. There's a lot of space here and the staff were extremely friendly. You order your food, grab drinks, etc. and go to your table. They bring the food out to you and when you're done, you just go to the cashier to tell them what you had. Really laid back and they trust that you tell them what you ate/drank. You don't find a lot of places like this anymore, especially in larger cities. They're not open on the weekends unfortunately. read more

On the morning of April 3, my family woke up in Baltimore, at a hotel just a few blocks north of David and Dad's. We'd never been to Baltimore before, and on our walk to the Inner Harbor, we just happened to walk past this cafe. It was breakfast time, and the sign attracted us so we stopped in. We ordered a #3 (2 eggs, toast, home fries & choice of bacon/sausage/scrapple) and a #5 (three buttermilk pancakes and choice of meat) which was plenty of food for me, my husband, and our 6 year old son to split, and a bottle of Tropicana OJ and paid $12.47. The food was delicious! The staff was very friendly and I enjoyed the eat first/pay later system, which made it feel less like a breakfast-to-go system. We liked it so much that we stopped in our second morning in Baltimore as well and ordered the same thing. Very good. We saw they do a good lot of business catering as they were making lots of trays of goods to be picked up or delivered - want to make sure everyone knows you can stop in and get a wonderful breakfast or lunch, and they have a full custom drink menu (coffees, teas, smoothies) as well! This place has pretty good, albeit standard, breakfast food. I'm particularly fond of their buttermilk biscuit. They also have decent coffee and I like that they are open early. The staff often over explain their (pretty normal) paying situation, where you return to the counter and pay after the meal. Also this morning they were playing very loud Christmas music. (08/01/2011) Nice little place in the dark heart of downtown Baltimore's office jungle to grab a quick sandwich. Prices are a little high, but so is the quality of ingredients. Had the "Charles Street Special", $7.45; turkey had a subltle pickling spice flavor (like pastrami), lots of speckled brown mustard (which I like), Swiss cheese on the sandwich was melted through, and the rye was indeed grilled to a dark golden brown and crisped. What a great little coffee shop. I am giving them only 4 stars because this is the first time I have been here but will definitely not be the last. The cafe is open Monday thru Saturday and offers a wide variety of espresso drinks, some coffee and even does smoothies and frozen drinks. The options for smoothies and frozen drinks are more limited than the hot espresso drinks but very tasty. I had a frozen caramel latte and OMG it is one of the best frozen drink I have ever tasted. This is going to be a dangerous place for me since I only work a couple doors down from here the definitely have a new regular. The service was fantastic the person behind the counter was very friendly and energetic but was patiently waited and happily told me what they have on their menu and that she could pretty much make a drink anyway I liked it as long as they had the flavor in stock that I wanted. The customer service here is really some of the best I have seen in a long time. Not the phony how can I help you you're wasting my time attitude but a genuine smile and helpfulness that you don't really see all that often anymore. The prices here are about average no more or less than any of the other fancy coffee stores the thing that sets them apart is the friendly staff who are kind and courteous no matter what they are in the middle of doing. Every customer gets undivided attention. Can't wait to go back and try some of the sandwiches which are made at the restaurant (David and Dad's on Charles Street) and delivered to the store daily early in the am. read more

Bacon Cheeseburger with fries, Flounder Cheese Fish Sub, Honey Old Bay Wings, "Cafe" Salad, D & D Breakfast Platter, Cinnamon French Toast w/Powdered Sugar & Fresh Strawberries, Meatloaf Platter, Lasagna and Fresh Smoothie made my way w/Kale, Spinach, Pineapple, Strawberries, Yogurt and Agave. Came to David and Dad's Cafe on a whim. Highly recommended by the door man next door. The food didn't disappoint. The restaurant is beautiful and ornate. Needed a quick and easy breakfast this morning so I walked over to David and Dads on the corner of Charles and Lexington. The restaurant is cafe style in a beautiful old historic style Baltimore building. You order at the counter and can dine in and carry out. Decided to eat in. Ordered a Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream and a side order of scrambled eggs. The food came out promptly (I think I missed the breakfast rush) and it was delicious! My waffle was huge and super fluffy. Eggs were pretty good too. They serve breakfast till 11 on weekdays and I think al day on weekends but I'm not sure. And they're open till 8 for lunch and dinner. Hello again, I do love this place get here early enough and you don't have to look for a place to sit. There is a bell that lets you know someone is entering not sure if that was here last time I was. I got up early just for this place. It's 7am I'm not at work till 11 so clearly that says something. I'm a French toast person so you mainly find me there eatin that. My take out orders are different though. Around the afternoon hours, you can find chicken pot pies large and very home made looking. They have three areas of beverages so you will be fine when you run in for a drink. They have a bar area haven't been in yet but it does look nice. This is a great place to pop in, in downtown Baltimore when your looking for good breakfast. Oh and do beware at times you will run into a influx of business people but so far I've seen only nice people so so come on in and just order. Eating in or takeout don t matter pick one. I ate here while recently in Baltimore for a conference. It was a short walk from my hotel. The interior is just really cool, with the high ornate ceilings remaining from the days when it was a bank. It's just not what you typically expect when walking into a breakfast diner-type establishment. The food and service were both excellent, and really affordable. The high windows allow for a ton of natural light into the room, and also great people watching on the busy street outside. read more
