It's aged and nothing fancy. I ordered shrimp and blueberry waffle. The food is made to order, be prepared to wait. I ordered a lemonade as well The food was very underwhelming for the price point. Absolutely delicious! Here today with my husband for the Steelers vs. Ravens game (go Steelers!!) and we stumbled upon this place, as it's close to the hotel we are staying at. We aren't from Baltimore, and it was a little confusing finding it, as it's located inside a food court. We got here around 9 AM and it was empty, not really knowing what to expect, and most of the other restaurants were closed. The ambiance wasn't there, but again, we were there at 9 AM on a Sunday (so I'm intrigued to see what it's like when all restaurants in the food court are opened). What gave us full confidence to try it out was the fact that they have a Food Network logo on their menu, so we had to try! We both ordered the two piece tender chicken with buttermilk waffles. It came out HOT and wow, it was insanely good. Everything was fresh (we saw the guy breaded our pieces of chicken and fry them!), chicken was seasoned well, crispy, and succulent inside. The buttermilk waffle was fluffy, light, and not overly sweet (which I prefer!). Served with syrup and hot sauce. Located in the Charles Plaza food court, about a 10 minute walk from the Baltimore Convention Center. The food court is kinda dirty and rundown looking inside and I questioned my decision to eat there as I walked around. When I arrived at Connie's there was one employee who took and cooked the orders in front of you. Since it's fried food you walk out smelling deep-fried. As I was awaiting my food, a couple of Door Dashers came in to pick up orders at separate times and the employee told each of them the orders had already been picked up much earlier. I found that odd and wondered if a random person had picked up the food. One of the dashers offered to wait for the order they were trying to pick up to be remade but the employee refused to re-do it. It seemed like a very unfortunate and tense situation. I'd hate to be the dasher or the person who had ordered the food. I was disappointed w/ the chicken. It was overcooked and tough. I could only eat a few bites of it. This hidden gem can be found amongst the food court. It took us a second to find it but when we did we were so impressed. The woman who took care of us was so nice and even offered us a free drink. The chicken was phenomenal and the options of waffles were so fun and interesting. My only critique for this place is that it takes a bit to get your food (but there was only one person working so totally understandable) and there is an additional $1.00 charge to add three slices of strawberries to the waffle and we only got a few. In this climate cleanliness is extremely important/necessary. Staff was friendly and I wanted to try this establishment for some time now. After seeing the up keep and food food handling safety... The menu pretty much is exactly what what it claims to be, chicken and waffles but what chicken and what waffles! The waffles (created before your very eyes) are not diet ones. The first time I visited I had one of these paragons of buttermilk excellence with a little syrup. Spectacular! The second time I tried one with some sliced strawberries, and powered sugar. Yummy again! The chicken I had each time. Before visiting this restaurant I never thought of having chicken and waffles together but this combination works well! I must describe the chicken in particular. You don't get frozen chicken. Like the waffles you can watch the chicken breast fillets (no bones) get their proprietory seasoning and caressed by hot oil! My last visit involved a ubiquitous staple of the Baltimore area, the Chicken Box. It turns out that Chicken and Waffles can handle spuds too! While I did not see them make the potatoes yield their rectangular strips, the fries were well seasoned, fresh, and abundant! There is no surfeit of condiments and the soft drinks, very diverse in range, are inexpensive which bucks the trend in most restaurants. It's a little hole in the wall but I decided to still try it out in-spite of the appearance since I was hungry and was headed back to church. If I could make a few suggestions it would be to add Eggs, Grits and Fried chicken wings to the menu. It's also a little pricey for what you get. I was also told but the young man who took my order that a lot of customers has suggested the same thing about the menu.
