We're new customers at Dave's, but have had a couple of experiences here now, and I'm confident enough to say I like them so far! The only room for improvement so far is that we didn't get any proactive calls with updates for our cars during the repairs. One ended up being much less complicated than expected but took longer than I thought and then we had to rush over to pick it up before closing... the other took several days (A/C compressor repair during this ongoing heatwave), and both times it was us calling for updates and not getting much feedback on expected final cost. Here's the good news though- they're heavily favored & we haven't been lied to once. Also, the longer you're a customer, the more discounts you earn. I can handle waiting a little longer than Firestone, knowing my repairs will actually be handled correctly THE FIRST TIME & I won't be getting told questionable things when they fix my car... and that's worth a LOT! read more

I was asked to detail my prior review per the staff. I was quoted at first $800 for spark plug change. I did not give them the pricing quoted to me from the infiniti dealer, which was $925. Then I got a call back, stating they were incorrect with their quote, the real pricing was going to be $1590 total to change out my spark plugs. So I said this sounds strange, a second quote, higher than the dealer. I said no, I would just do an oil change instead. I took my car to Garza and son's auto and got it done for $379.00. Hi, While trying to get my 2013 Jeep inspected I found you could not get an inspection done with the engine trouble light on, after having run the DTC's I needed to get the repairs done. Called a few places right before the Christmas break and most of the shops had about a 2 week wait just to get an estimate. On the way home around 4PM on a Thursday I remembered a young whipper snapper I knew from our church named Brad Updegraff was the owner of Dave's Automotive and decided to give them a ring (RRTX location) while on the road. The shop told me to swing by and drop it off before they close and they would have an estimate before end of day Friday. Got the estimate and work completed and my Jeep was ready to roll. I have been so happy with the service since I started going to Dave's Ultimate Automotive in South Austin. They are super organized, friendly, and communicative. They recently serviced my Subaru Outback, which had an electrical problem that drained the battery overnight. It turned out to be a small drain that was really hard to pin down. I've been going to Dave's Ultimate Automotive South for two years now, but no more. I was having some issues starting my car, and based on conversations with family, they thought it was the alternator. I took it over to Dave's Ultimate Automotive and dropped it off. They called me at 5:00 that day to let me know that it wasn't the alternator - the battery needed to be replaced. They presented me two options 1. A $360 replacement, or a $500 replacement. After speaking with friends and family, I asked why they were charging so much for a simple battery replacement, particularly when Autozone will put it in FOR FREE. The front desk person became flustered, talking about how the Autozone folks don't know what they're doing, how the labor has been paid out already, how they have no margins on battery replacement, etc. I drive a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer - not exactly the worlds most expensive car -I have no idea how they can claim it costs $100 in labor to replace a battery. I am in my first job out of college, and I appreciated before that Dave's felt like they were conscious of my budget - I felt railroaded after this past experience. I am not a car person by any means - I came to trust Keith with my car, as he seemed like a straight shooter. To his credit, I didn't work with him this past time - however, I no longer believe, after two years of coming to Dave's and thousands of dollars spent, that they operate in good faith and are not taking advantage of people's knowledge when it comes to cars. My AC also just stopped working in my car - prior to this past experience, this would be an easy call to go drop it off at Dave's Ultimate Automotive. At least I know where not to go! I would be extremely cautious in taking your vehicle here, as I am not convinced they are operating in good faith - it's unfortunate, because they seemed like good folks. These guys take honest mechanic to the next level and I refuse to take my car anywhere else because of it. 10/10 recommend! I took my 2015 Camry in because I felt the steering wheel banking to the right at slow speeds and after getting my tires and alignment checked (which were fine) brought it here to see what else was wrong. Turns out -- there was nothing wrong with it! They were honest with me, communicative, and didn't even charge my in the end because they didn't feel like it was right (even though they held my car for two days!) I never write bad reviews nor do I ever want to. But I'm curious if this is the norm here and I guess I should've asked when I was there. But I didn't. This was my experience though. I came in for an oil change for the first time. At other places, I usually pay between $60-70. They change both the oil and filter. And top off all liquids. This place did JUST an oil change. Nothing else. And i was charged $102. AND that was with a discount! I've never had this happen. Is that not insane?! Or is this normal for here? Genuinely want to know. I wanted this place to be my new spot to take my car but after this, prob not gonna happen. Couple stars for the sweet lab dog though and the guy at the front who was also very sweet. read more

I made an appointment at 9 am & arrived on time , I walked to go get breakfast & returned at noon to see my car had not been looked at still . I then asked about it then they took it in & I walked around another 30 min & was texted the issues that needed work but I got a tune up & fluids flushed instead of those issues that I guess were minor.& could wait? Confused ! They then (1pm) gave me a loaner vehicle to use which was nice. & I returned at closing to get my car. I get the impression they are too busy taking on too many vehicles all at once. My diesel particulate filter light was on on my VW. It was going to be almost a month before the Volkswagen dealer could see me. I was really worried that I was doing serious damage to my car having to wait for an appointment and the nice folks at Dave said they could take a look at it for me. my girlfriend knows very little about cars. And she came to these guys and trusted them with her vehicle that is a little more on the expensive side. I was unavailable due to work so I asked her to email me their estimate for a repair to only one side of her front end suspension after hitting a curb at low speed. The car has sport wheels and tires and it doesn't take much to bend a tie rod or ruin a tire. After a long paragraph in all caps from DUA that basically said your car is going to explode if we don't work on it she got the estimate back and they had insisted on replacing the following: both struts both amounts both sway bars and both lower control arms. additionally they told her it would be dangerous to drive her car if her rear drum brakes weren't replaced along with a full test to be done on her steering linkage and that she should also replace both front tires and get a four wheel alignment this was all because she checked the curb on one side and the vehicle was driving fine on the opposite side unfortunately she had a time constraint and they wouldn't be able to get the car back to her for two days regardless if she approved the work. so we went forward with it hoping for the best and cringing at the thought of essentially paying twice the price for work that only needed to be done on one side. The total was $2800. $1000 in labor. One week later the car started making a noise like the tire was rubbing . One week after this she pulled into a parking lot and a part fell out of her front suspension. we called DUA and told them that a suspension part had fallen out and that the vehicle felt unsafe to drive. "oh sorry we can't help you for three days" this is after they provided work that literally fell apart on a vital piece of machinery on the vehicle. at this point we pulled the plug and went to another shop gave them the park and they confirmed that none of the parts she was charged for were even replaced. they fixed everything for under $300. this is called theft and exploiting a situation by taking advantage of somebody. whoever Davis needs to re-examine his decisions. read more

I've taken my car here a few times over the past 6 months for oil changes, alignment and to check the brakes. Unfortunately I won't be going back. Expertise -- I asked them to check the brakes during my first oil change. They told me they do a full inspection of the vehicle for all new clients and would check the brakes. However, when my car was finished, I learned they didn't do the full inspection. They seemed busy and flustered so I let it go and I asked them to please check the breaks. They checked and said the brakes were at end of life and need replacing. I wanted to think about it and come back when I (and they) had more time. A month later, I happened to be at a Toyota dealership for another reason where they told me the brakes are in good condition and have plenty of life left. It was surprising because usually a dealership will be more "proactive" to get work done. I even went back into the dealership shop where the mechanic showed me proof that the breaks did not need replacing yet. Organization -- I've made three total appointments here and two of the three I was turned away because their schedule was overbooked. This most recent appointment was made a week in advance for an oil change. It's disappointing. The employees very nice.. maybe they're just too busy of a location for their size and need more shop staff. read more

You know I had a great experience dealing with Dave's Ultimate Automotive. First things, first...They have a night drop box. So if you break down during the night like I did, you can have it towed there and leave your keys in their drop box along with an envelope. The guys working the front, Andrew and Jason were awesome professionals and knew what they were talking about when it came to auto repair. I felt like they were being honest with me. They let me know when my pickup was ready. If you can't afford the car repair, they have a program through Snap Finance which was a life saver because it broke down at a time when I didn't have much money. I've been coming to Dave's for about three years now for all things car related. I've been driving the same 2006 4Runner for 13 years and, thanks to the crew at Dave's (shout out to Jason & Andrew), I'll be getting even more years out of it. They ALWAYS go above and beyond for their customers. They are also very honest and extremely fair. That really came to light this past week when I had to take my car to another shop to get my state inspection (Dave's doesn't offer them directly. They will take it to get inspected down the street for you but it sometimes takes a bit more time so I opted out of this option during my last oil change). While waiting for my inspection at Lamb's Automotive on Slaughter, I was quoted an outrageous number to fix my tail light... Which I could have sworn was not out... Something felt off so I immediately called Dave's and Jason was able to get me an appointment to figure out the root of the problem ASAP. Lamb's failed my inspection and did not bat an eye at me questioning their outrageous quote. Super sketch. Fast forward to my morning appt. at Dave's; Andrew was so helpful. He listened to my concerns and he immediately went outside with me to look at my car and see if my tail light really needed to be fixed. Turns out only a small portion of my tail light was out and there was no reason I should have failed my inspection. Andrew was awesome & saved me an unnecessary maintenance on my car. I also realized that Lamb's more than DOUBLED what replacing a tail light should cost. Andrew sent me down the street to their pals at Top Gun to get my inspection done in under 15 minutes - they also rock too. I'm so thankful to have found an auto shop that I trust and that always does an awesome job. Took it in worried that car felt unstable and too bouncy as if something was wrong with alignment or shocks. This facility completed a pre-purchase inspection of a used car for me. Their inspection was helpful, but not completely honest. They claimed that the brake pedal was soft and that the car's shocks and struts would need to be completely replaced. I bought the car and have now been driving it for a month and this is not true. The brake pedal is not soft at all and there is no performance issue with bouncing or cornering to suggest a shock/strut problem. They also gave an inflated estimate for the cost to replace the shocks and struts - it was approximately 2.5x the cost estimated for this ZIP on RepairPal.com. I don't regret going to the pre-purchase inspection here, but I wouldn't go back because their cost estimate seemed dishonest. read more

Called ahead and spoke to Keith who told me to bring my car in on Thursday when he was able to get some of the cars off of his lot. Had it towed Thursday, 12/29, didn't arrive til around 2pm. No call, no updates. I called at 5:35 on 12/29, and was told he never said he would get it in, says he would try but slim chance. 12/30 no call, no update. I called 3 times Friday starting around 2pm, 24 hrs after car was towed, the 1st time no answer after many rings, 2nd time told to hold, no one ever picked up after 10 mins on hold, I hung up. The 3rd time I spoke to Matt who said he couldn't say when they'd be able to look at it, "you're welcome to come pick it up", I was upset as I could've had my car taken to many other places. This is a holiday weekend and they will have had my car for 5 days without looking for it if nothing is done today. Matt told me having it dropped off on Thursday afternoon was like having it dropped off on Friday morning. Matt then passed the phone to Keith who argued and talked over me saying he never told me he'd get it in, but that he would attempt to get it in but it was a slim chance. Um, then why tell me to bring it in knowing that I was making arrangements to have it towed to your shop? Interesting how his tune changed from the first time I spoke to him to when my car was on the lot there. I told him I wasn't going to argue with him and he also told me I was welcome to come pick it up. No clue if they do decent work but my experience is they will play nice to get your car there and then you're at their mercy. Imo, very unprofessional and dishonest. read more

I have had several recent great experiences with Go Greene Automotive and I wanted to share how nice and accommodating these guys are. First, I needed a new headlight for my Jeep Wrangler and unfortunately, they didn't have it in stock at the moment. However, they directed me where I could go grab one right quick and they had their guy install it on the spot FREE of charge. It took all of 10 minutes. I showed up because my car was making very unusual sounds. After having it looked at, they came to me with a list of things they said needed to be fixed. I ended up approving the work that were solely related to the noise I was hearing since I didn't have much of a budget to get it fixed. The day it was ready to pick up, they lost my key for about an hour, where I had to wait for them to find it in the garage. Roughly $600 dollars later it still wasn't fixed. The noise had never even left. It got worse. A few weeks later I took it back. Not only did they not address the fact that they didn't fix it the first time, but they were trying to charge me another $600 to do more things to it. I left and took it to Qualtech instead, where they identified the issue within the first 2 minutes they were in the car and fixed it within a day for half the price. This happened months ago and the reason I chose to write about it now is because I'd like to think people are not trying to rip you off but sometimes just genuinely don't know what they're doing. I tried to get past what happened and not make a fuss about it, but given the times where every dollar makes a difference in your financial state during these times, I wish I had my $600 dollars back that they most definitely did not deserve.
