If you have a manual transmission, I strongly recommend taking your car somewhere else. I paid over $2,000 for a clutch replacement, and instead of fixing my car, I ended up with a whole new list of problems. First, the repair took about a week. I understand this was a couple of weeks before Christmas (last year), and shops can be short staffed or dealing with employees being out sick. What I don't understand is why I had to call every single day just to get an update. Communication throughout the entire process was almost nonexistent. The day I picked up my car, I noticed a strong burning oil smell just before I got home. I immediately turned around and drove back to the shop, where they discovered they had forgotten to reinstall a transmission seal. As a result, transmission fluid had leaked all over my exhaust. When I got home, I checked the transmission fluid myself and found it was nearly empty. Running a manual transmission that low on fluid can cause serious and potentially permanent damage. I took the car to another shop to have the fluid topped off, and they also discovered that Eagle Transmission had forgotten to reinstall one of the exhaust bolts that had been removed during the clutch job. Unfortunately, the problems didn't stop there... I began experiencing hydraulic issues with the clutch and returned to speak with the owner, Scott. I explained my concerns, including the fact that the transmission had never been properly refilled after they corrected the leak. Rather than addressing the workmanship, Scott's response was, "Your transmission is a piece of sh*t. It has spray paint on it, which means it's from a junkyard. You need a transmission rebuild, and that'll cost you another $2,000." If that were true, and my transmission was in such poor condition, you would think they would have mentioned it before installing the new clutch instead of after I returned with problems. To make matters even more concerning, Scott didn't even know where the transmission dipstick was while we were discussing the fluid level. I was so frustrated and insulted, I had to walk out. After receiving advice with another Eagle Transmission location in Cedar Park and doing some research, I returned a few days later and simply asked Scott if they could bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Even after our debate I offered to pay for the service, but he flat out refused. I'm a very patient individual and rarely leave negative reviews, but this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with an automotive repair shop. Between the lack of communication, careless workmanship, missing hardware, a transmission left nearly empty of fluid, and the way my concerns were completely dismissed, I cannot recommend this location to anyone... especially if you own a manual transmission vehicle. I hope sharing my experience helps someone else avoid the frustration, wasted time, and unnecessary expense that I went through. read more

Heard very good things about Eagle so requested a quote. Was quoted what I considered an extremely high price for rebuilding a transmission with upgraded parts. Over $1500+ more than anyone else. That's either a "go away" price or "see how much we can gouge 'em for" price. I know what it takes to rebuild, the cost of parts and labor, and parts upgrade cost. NOBODY is worth that much. Would it have been good work? Unknown, this rating is based on the business interaction, not the quality of work performed. We had our transmission replaced last year and this year we began having a knocking sound. Our regular mechanic could not determine exactly what the problem was so we took it back to Eagle since our transmission was under warranty. It turns out it was not our transmission, but the flex wheel between the transmission and the engine. Eagle was able to diagnose it and fix it within just a couple days. The car is running great now. I am a person who normally does most of the mechanical & diagnostic work on my cars myself, especially since many moons ago I was a professional automotive journalist. However in this instance, my Subaru WRX (which had developed a nasty habit of devouring its clutch every 22K-23K miles) there is so much engine/transmission/transfer case packed into such a tiny space that it was not a job that was easily done by one man in a driveway on jack stands no matter what the skill level (especially not one with giant paws), it was a job best left to professionals - and the time it took reflected that. I was providing my own high performance parts, living in Wimberly I had shopped around the entire greater Austin area trying to find someone who would install my upgraded parts without up charging me for their labor and with good reviews. These were the guys who had the best shop rate and did not charge me more for using my parts (though they did not warranty them). I had them replace every commonly replaced component except the clutch pedal itself, in the hopes that this time it would last longer than 22K-23K miles. They had the car ready in two days (I dropped it off at the end of the 1st day), and after a proper break in, it continued to hook up great - though I almost never do any hard launches on this OEM "racing" clutch. Had I written this review immediately after picking it up, or even 6 months ago they would have gotten a 5 (or even a 6 if I could) star review, but I am writing this 23,000 miles later - and yes, it's eaten yet another clutch, so I need to get this extraordinarily expensive clutch replacement done yet again. But these are great guys in a great shop and you will never go wrong in choosing them to fix your wonky transmission. After getting ripped off by a shop on N. Lamar for a simple clutch replacement, I brought my car here and they fixed it. They had to replace the transmission because the previous 'repair'. Eagle Transmission replaced the the defective parts and I was back on the road. After a couple of weeks i had issues and learned it was the throw out bearing and or slave cylinder. The car would get into any gear. This repair and labor was covered by the warranty Eagle Transmission provided. If I have any issues with any other vehicles in the future I will definitely be a return customer. Scott was super helpful and explained everything to me about what my Jeep was needing since I had express how another shop had done work when I first moved here to Austin and didn't explain anything to me but charged me a whole lot. I forgot to post this awhile back but when we first moved out here in February our car was making a weird noise near the front axle. Fiancés dad thought it could have been something wit the trans. I love Tim! He just saved me about $3000 yesterday. Not kidding. I took my car into Flamingo (bad, bad shop). They told me I had a bad transmission and if my warranty would cover it AT ALL, I would need my transmission "blown apart" for $850. I contacted Eagle and they said that only costs $400 or less. So I towed my car to Eagle. Tim called me after a half day with the good news that they did not need to blow anything apart, I just needed two new camshaft sensors. And he had already done it. And he had already talked to my warranty company and got it paid for. Tim was so friendly and respectful. He didn't talk down to me like the guy at the other shop. I am so happy that he took the time to investigate my problem thoroughly. I really could have easily been out a lot of money, since there is no way my warranty would have covered something that wasn't broken. I can see why they have an A+ with the Better Business Bureau. The waiting area, which I didn't have to use, was very clean. Wow, I was sure that something was wrong with the transmission in my 1999 Mercury Mountaineer. It shifts a little funny under just the right conditions and I wanted to get ahead of a problem and fix it before it causes more damage. Ken test drove my truck and checked everything out only to report that it needs ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. He even said he would say my transmission was in good condition! I was not convinced and asked if someone could ride with me as I drove. "Sure can" said Ken. We talked as the transmission shifted and he explained what was going on with the transmission and why he thinks nothing is wrong with it. Although I could not replicate exactly what I have experienced without Ken in the truck, he spoke to patterns they see with this particular transmission, which is not what most Mountaineers and Explorers have because I have a V8 engine. On Tuesday evening my transmission unceremoniously dumped, spewed and poured most of my transmission fluid out along the lovely streets and parking lots of north central Austin. It was after 7pm, so I drove home cautiously and searched online for a nearby transmission specialist with a good reputation. I found one place with an A+ Better Business Bureau rating and ZERO complaints about a mile from my house. Eagle Transmission on Buell Rd at Burnet Rd. At 7:30AM Wednesday morning I delivered my car to their shop. The manager Tim and I discussed what a gorgeous day it was and he asked if I need a ride to shuttle me home. I was close to home so I walked, but it is always nice when a car repair shop recognizes that their patrons might need transportation help and offers a ride. I was impressed. He said there were about 5 cars ahead of mine and that he'd call after 2PM with the diagnosis & estimate. Fair enough. I left hoping for the best and fearing the worst. I've had transmission problems before and they were never cheap, always 4 figures. So when he called before 2PM, I was pleasantly surprised. Then when he told me it was simply a bad hose and that they had already replaced it, I was giddy to be getting my car back in less than a day at the shop! THEN when he said that there would be no charge, I ran over to pick my car up before he could change his mind! Seriously?! That's amazing. This level of service demonstrates a true respect for their customers and I thoroughly appreciate such honesty and integrity when I find a business that really proves itself. And the car is running perfectly again! With any car problem I always hope it's something easy to fix, but RARELY does it turn out that way. The only "repair" I ever got for FREE was when the Subaru dealer solved that loud clunking under the car by pulling out an errant can of tomatoes that had fallen out of my grocery bag and was rolling around under my driver's seat! I had first taken my SUV to a plus transmission specialist where they had confirmed transmission problems. I had changed my mind to have it fixed there after reading some reviews and took my business here where it was determined that I actually didn't have any real transmission issues other than a small leak from a seal on the bottom of the transmission which they fixed for about $120 with tax. I was relieved that it was not my transmission with the issue but a misfire with the engine which was causing my SUV to "buck" at random times. The only thing I wish this place would be better about is calling back and giving updates but I can understand they are busy since they know what they're doing here. The good news is, the clutch they installed previously is still just fine -- no complaints there. The bad news is that one of my shifter cables died. Ever driven with just your odd numbered gears? It's suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper fun! As before, they didn't take long once the parts came in and my baby is back in service. The only teensy little quibble I have is that they had to move my air intake to get to one end of the cables. When they put it back, they used different screws on the box cover. I'm pretty sure the original ones stripped out and they made the best match they could (Honestly, I was expecting to replace them next time I cleaned my filter anyway). It would have been nice if they'd mentioned it so I wasn't surprised by unexpected brass and weird slot shape when I lifted the bonnet. read more

Excellent Customer Service I just picked up my car (after hours because I wanted to go see Hunger Games and the movie ended after the shop closed - and Brandon totally worked with me on that with no hassle - paid by credit card over the phone, swung by after the movie) and when I turned the ignition switch the engine sounded better than it had in years. My husband and I nearly clapped. Brandon worked with me over the phone - my transmission went out at night. The next day I called and had it towed to Eagle, even though I've never been there. Brandon did a great job of explaining things to me and providing me information so I could make decisions about how to proceed. Also, he was very friendly, which made the stress of dealing with car trouble a lot easier. All of this was over the phone. They warrantied the work for 3 years, 30,000 miles, which is more than a co-worker got when she had similar work done elsewhere. I wasn't surprised when I logged in and saw a 5-star average. Since my transmission had to be rebuilt, they're having me come back in in 2 weeks so they can take a look and check that everything is as it should be.
