I have a 2012 Acura MDX that had an electrical short that kept blowing fuses. Therefore, I had no Radio/DVD/Navigation/ backup cam, key locks, seat memory function, tailgate, fuel filler door, or any key fob functions. I had taken this car twice to David McDavid Acura and they could not diagnose the problem. I lived with the car in this electrically compromised condition for 8 to 9 months. I knew it was a direct short somewhere in the car. I then read the reviews on Northwest Imports. I was convinced to give them a try. THEY FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM THE FIRST DAY!!! Most of this was due to intuition and logic used by the tech assigned to my car, and strangely enough the short was in an area that I would have never guessed (under the steering column). The repair was not that hard, once diagnosed, and the cost was very reasonable. If you have a higher end luxury car with all the advanced electronics in them, then I would go no where else but Northwest Imports. Bob and his crew are extremely friendly and patient. It was great to finally find a shop that I feel like I can trust. Give them a try.

How much does Northwest imports charge per hour for labor?

Our labor rate varies according to the make of car and the skill level required to do the job. Just a piece of advice, choosing a shop by the labor rate doesn't really tell you much. I had a customer come in for an estimate for a clutch problem on…

There is a danger though - you might feel a certain urge to smooch your mechanic in gratitude! Being new to Austin, and knowing I needed a engine remount I really just needed to trust yelp. I got a quote from two different, well recommended places, and trusted the reviews. With a quote of $431 for the engine remount, OTS was $135 cheaper than the other guy. I drove my car in, deciding that I basically had to trust the reviews. This is what I told James: "I really must depend on my car. I know the engine mounts need replacing. A tire I think is losing air, not sure about that. I sometimes have trouble starting the car, but I from what other mechanics have said it shouldnt be too serious. Ohh, and there is a check engine light. I have $750, and then I am tapped. Please fix as much as you can within that budget, and help me prioritize the rest". When I picked up the car - the engine remount was done. Several parts got replaced. It had two new wheels; a oil change and realignment. He couldnt fully diagnose the starter issue, except you guys, for a undiagnosed problem, it seems to have vanished. The car starts so much easier. Maybe something or other got tightened when they checked it out - I have no idea. He told me a few, very minor things that still need to get done, and then "within 6 months is fine". Then, he showed me pictures of parts and repairs, explained the details of why what needed to get done, explained his priorities for my car. My price tag? $699. Yes, below the budget, I had so boldly stated! Do you want a mechanic you can trust to be completely honest with you? How about one that will charge you simply what they need to get the job done? I can say this for sure - OTS are my mechanics! (and I will control any smooching tendencies)

Once I was moving, I only made it down the street before all power failed in my car and I had to coast to a stop. It is to my great luck and joy that I coasted to a stop in the parking lot of Oak Knoll Automotive. When I walked in, I was greeted by Bobby, who spoke to me like I was his friend and communicated clearly what he thought the issue might be, how long it would take and approximate cost. There were techs buzzing around the bays hard at work, so instead of making me wait forever, Bobby went out and took a look at my car himself and got it into the garage out of the 100+ heat. I ended up spending a couple hours in the waiting room (which was thoughtfully decorated and had plenty to read or watch) before Bobby told me they needed to keep the car overnight. This morning, I got a call from Bobby first thing where he told me the plan for the day and when I should expect to hear back from him. Like clockwork, he called me back to let me know my car was ready and gave me a price breakdown of the repair work done. All-in-all, this place was wildly helpful, communicated clearly about the work done, and priced fairly. Going into an auto shop as a woman by yourself can be intimidating, but this shop defies that expectation and rises to make for a terrific experience for all. I would recommend this place to my friends and family any day!

My car had died, and based on my understanding, I believed the battery was the issue. I had purchased the battery from this shop about a year ago and was told it had a 3-year warranty, so I came in expecting to have the battery replaced under warranty. Instead, I was told there was nothing wrong with my battery. The situation then turned into an issue with my alternator. I was initially quoted $1,500 for a new alternator, then $1,200, and eventually told Randy's "homeboy" could do it for $500 cash. I told him I didn't have $500, and he asked, "What do you have?" He eventually agreed to $200 cash. When I came back for clarification, I was told I was getting a brand-new alternator. However, when I returned, the same alternator was still on my car. I was then told that the positive wire on the alternator had been fixed and the alternator had been cleaned, and that was what the $200 was for. I was given a $0 receipt for the warranty battery, but no itemized receipt explaining the $200 cash charge. I left extremely confused and feeling like I had been misled about what work was actually being done. I don't know a lot about cars, but customers deserve honesty, clear communication, and documentation of what they are paying for. I personally feel like I was taken advantage of. Be aware of Randy and make sure you get everything in writing before paying for additional work.
