Dropped my car off at a different auto shop because I had a check engine light code saying my oxygen sensor had issues. This other shop was not friendly, not communicative. They got back to me at the very end of the day and emailed me a quote that suggested not only replacing the oxygen sensor but several other things like the timing belt. $2,000.00 total. I asked co-workers if anyone had a auto shop they would recommend and someone told me Uptown Auto Repair. I gave them a call and the woman who works there (wish I knew her name) was immediately more helpful and interested in my problem than, well I'll just say it, Yost. She clearly has expertise and understanding that was utterly lacking from the person I dealt with at the other place. She quickly remarked that a certain part looked unusually expensive to her and was looking for ways I could save money. I dropped my car off I heard back from them that no, I don't need a new timing belt, and actually the oxygen sensor did not look bad either. Spark plugs and some things I did need. Ended up spending $350 instead of $2,000 for things I didn't need at a place that did not have my interests at heart. In my experience Uptown Auto Repair is run by honest, kind people. Our warranty expired with Lexus but we decided to go to Lexus service anyway for our 40K mile tune-up. We were told that we needed the tires and brakes replaced right away. We could visibility tell that the tires needed to be replaced but not the brakes. We decided to take our car to Uptown, where we've had previously work done with our previous cars, to have the brakes replaced. Nasser told us we still had ~6 months of use still left on the brakes. We couldn't be more excited. All we were out of pocket was $24 for him to do the inspection and minor work. They are our go-to for auto service repairs since they've demonstrated repeatedly to us they do business with integrity, quality service and better pricing than we've seen elsewhere. read more

I needed the brake lines on my Dodge Sprinter replaced. My first estimate was $1300-1500. The second was about $2000, with helpful suggestions that ran it up to $3500. I had a really bad experience with this place, which I thought I'd try based on all the glowing yelp reviews. I went for a 55K maintenance service for my 2008 Audi since they said they could do all the servicing for a reasonable price. The shop itself is a mess of cars which they do not have enough room for. They garage is very small and run down. There isn't even parking for customers. 8 hours later (a 2 cab rides because they don't provide any shuttle service), I pick up my car and find several chips in the back bumper. I checked my car before dropping it off and these chips weren't there. I am always in and out of the back trunk with my dog so I pay attention to that area. They had the nerve to accuse me (a pregnant woman to boot!) of putting my 'magnifying glass' on and said the chips were from my dog or from driving on the highway (both of which do not make sense at all considering the nature and location of the chips). It looks as if the car had been tapped by large equipment or backed into something in the garage. I had another car shop confirm this and they said that there is no way highway driving could cause it. They were incredibly rude dealing with me. In fact they made me cry!!! I'm pregnant and cannot hold emotions in. I felt ripped off and abused by this company. After all this, my car is still telling me that it needs servicing because they had no clue how to clear the computer. I'll never go to this place again and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

I took my car into an oil change place near my apt(not my usual place) and they informed me my radiator was leaking. They didn't do a full diagnostic but quoted me minimum $250 and closer to $500 to replace it if that was necessary. I decided to bring my car to Uptown to get it looked at since they did such a great job with my A/C a couple years ago. After dropping it off in the morning, a couple hours later they called to let me know they checked it out and there's no leak but a faulty radiator cap! To get it checked and have the cap replaced was around $30. I still can't believe it! I recommend everyone here because they are so honest! read more

As anyone whose had a car can attest, auto repair can be a financial black hole. Car problems are inevitable, but being gouged by a repair shop doesn't have to be. I went here when my A/C stopped blowing cold air, and chose this place even though it wasn't very close due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I'm happy to report they are warranted. My problem was fixed quickly - I got it back the same day even though I brought it in only 2 hours before closing time, and it worked like a charm. Additionally, the fix came with a guarantee - if there were any more hiccups with the situation, I could bring it back and have it repaired again for free. I'm not sure if this is standard practice, or just something that goes along with smaller problems like A/C fixes, but it gave me peace of mind and earned them a new lifelong customer. These folks were Great! Thanks to Nasser and Nasrin I now have a truck blowing Cold, Cold AC!! My 1996 Mazda Truck needed a part that was no longer manufactured for my model of vehicle. They sought one out from a junk yard, but the part that they brought was damaged in much the same way that my failing part was. Nasser and Nasrin did not accept the damaged part. Instead Nasser repaired the part himself and now my AC works GREAT! Yay!! I was afraid after all of this that this whole process was going to cost me a lot, but it did NOT! Uptown is the best repair shop I have ever dealt with. My husband has been taking his vehicles to Uptown for at least 20 years. I am a bit of a latecomer to Austin so I've only been taking my vehicles to them for about 13 years. We send everyone we know there as you will not find a more honest mechanic and business man. He and his wife run a small shop you can expect to get the best service for the best price. I maintained fleet vehicles for a company that insisted I used the dealership. When I was able to show them an average of 50% savings when using Uptown for repairs the powers that be decided the dealership was not such a good deal on our out of warranty cars. I have never dealt with a more honest and friendly mechanic shop. read more

I play in a band and we took our van here because the battery was not charging at idle, and it kept dying. We had a brand new battery so I took it to them to replace the alternator. After working hard on it for 2 days, they told me it wasn't the alternator, and that Chevy had recalled the same problem. So they put the old alternator back, and sent me to Chevy. And they didn't charge me a dime, even after hours of work. I will be taking all of my cars here from now on. I appreciate the honesty in service. read more

Unreliable and RUDE. They told me my radiator cap was broken so all the coolant leaked out and that was why my a/c was not working. They charged me 60$ telling me they flushed the system and found no leak. 2 weeks later, my car overheats and i find out from another auto shop that my radiator WAS leaking the entire time. Not to mention that the indian-owner-mechanic pretty much told me i drove him and his wife crazy after i called them 10 times over a few days after the repair (an exaggerated number), complaining about my a/c. He accused me of not trusting them. I don't think this was good customer service at all. You lose customers b/c of such rudeness. I didn't trust them and well, i was right not to! i wasted 60$ for nothing. read more

It's true what they are saying about this place. I overheard a coworker who hasn't reviewed it yet raving about the service so I checked Yelp. I liked what I read and dropped the car off expecting to spend upwards of $500 to fix a brake problem and an idling problem. Today my car is driving better than it has since I bought it. The check engine light is off. I took it in for repairs before inspection last year only to be turned away without a fix. So I took it to the dealer and they got the check engine light off temporarily, but they didn't find the problem. Half a day with Nasser and... all better. Brakes fixed. Engine doesn't stall. Uptown fixed my passenger's seat belt which inexplicably broke on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (in November 2017). The dealership said they would need to replace the seat belt and it would be $500 with parts and labor. I just had my first experience at Uptown Auto Repair and I was blown away! First of all, they quoted me about $400-$500 cheaper than any other place in town to get the timing belt / water pump / tensioner (not a cheap repair) on my boyfriend's car fixed. We dropped the car off at 8.45 am and it was ready same day, 4.45 pm! When we went to get it, they had done extra work (replaced all the front seals) for us, but that didn't result in a higher price -- in fact, the price they charged us was about $40 CHEAPER than what they'd quoted us! The owners are so friendly and nice, and they have a great warranty on the parts that they put in, I honestly could not be happier. There might be a little bit of a wait to get your car into this place, but that's to be taken as a good sign, as they're so popular! Really overwhelmingly positive experience. read more

What a great auto repair shop! I called them late on a Friday afternoon and they quoted me at half the price of other shops to get my power window regulator fixed. They even waited for me to bring in my car that night since I was worried about leaving it out on the street (the front window was completely down and I couldn't get it up). The husband and wife team were nice to me while I waited on my ride, even offering me free bottled water. While we were talking, I mentioned that I was on my way to see my boyfriend when my car broke. Even though they said they weren't sure they would be able to fix it the next day, the wife smiled and said "we need to help this girl see her boyfriend" and gave me a wink. Sure enough, my car was fixed bright and early the next day. The shop was also close to a bus stop, which was perfect since none of my friends were able to drive me there (they had all partied the night before). Overall, this was the best experience I've ever had with an auto repair shop. Quick, cheap, and run by extremely kind people. The only bad review on here had issues with scratches on her Audi. I will say that the shop is guarded by rottweilers. So, if you are worried about possible minimal scratches on your car, spend the extra money and take your car to a dealership service shop. But if you're like me, a poor college girl with a 15 year old Accord that has over 230,000 miles, I recommend the shop. I highly recommend Uptown Auto Repair and will be going there every time I need car help in Austin. read more

Nasser and Nasrine, besides being fine fine people...are just the best. They replaced a passenger-side rear view mirror on my 2004 Lexus driven by my daughter, and when it did not work properly (tilt up and down), no questions asked, said "bring it in, we already got you another, we'll replace it over the weekend." I am sad to say I probably wasted hundreds of dollars overpaying at the Lexus dealership (yes the coffee bar is great but I can always stop at Starbucks and the brake jobs are 3x the price as at Uptown)...the years I owned the car. Now that I gave it to my teen, she has a tank and can ding on it and Nasser knows what's important and what's not. I have never recommended an auto repair service until now but these honest, humane people just drove me to it. read more

I took my 2003 Audi to this place for a clutch replacement. I was somewhat skeptical at first, since I know that my car is diffcult to work on. The place is also has a very low-tech, no-frills feel. However, Nasser proved to be very capable, and was very friendly and honest. Audi wanted $3800 for the repair and other shops wanted $2500. Uptown auto quoted it for $2100, and the final bill exactly matched what was quoted. They seemed to have done a great job, and I will use them again. read more

I have been taking my car to Nasser and Nasreen since 2007. My clutch went out and I had no mechanic. I called 5 good friends, and got their mechanics names to get quotes for what I knew would be a really expensive repair. Uptown quoted me $250 less than the other shops, and they came with a stellar recommendation from a couple of friends. I was so glad I decided to go there - Nasser did a great job on my car and I've been going back ever since. They really do offer unbeatable prices and always stick to the quote that they give you. I have never once gone in and spent more than I was told it would be, and it's always less than other places tell me. Also, I've just stopped by to ask questions about my car, get advice about minor problems, or recommendations for things like tires, and Nasser always takes a few minutes out of his day to give the help. When I first bought my car the previous owner was unsure if the timing belt was replaced since he got a general tuneup/maintenence before I bought my Civic. I put it off getting the timing belt checked for a time. After that the distributor started acting up on me and I got it replaced. The orig mechanic I brought it to told me I needed to have the timing belt replaced and that it was rippling. This was in OCT of 2012. This other mechanic gave me a quote of $750 to replace the belt and told me if I did not due it soon my belt would break and cause severe damage. I drove with agonizing fear and only if I had to which included missing holidays with family and friends. After I saved up the money to get it replaced I decided to shop around to see if I could get a better deal. When I called Naserine they gave me a quote of 400ish. I was like hey that's a deal. So I took it to them based on all of the YELP reviews that their company has. They could have told me the belt needed to be replaced and got a lot more money from me. They told me it looked brand new (so the previous owner did get it replaced the last time he brought it for maintenance) and that they would do a general check up on my car. I needed a new oil change, all filters replaced, and a general tune up. It cost me 175 dollars with tax. They treated me with utmost respect, honesty, and courtesy. I have been to many mechanics here in Austin. And now I will never go to another shop again. I've never had a mechanic and since I grew up hearing bad stories about them I was very hesitant in trusting one. My fiance insisted I take my car to Uptown even though I had my doubts. Now I know that Nasser and Nasrine will always make my baby run smoothly at a very reasonable price. One time they accidentally gave a service that I did not want and they didn't charge me. I thought that was nice. They have always been very kind even when I showed them distrust. I will always bring my car to them now because they have simply earned my trust.
