Recharged a 2010 MazdaSpeed3 AC, replaced AC valves, installed new fan assembly and now running cold. Highly recommend the shop also for its fast turnaround in 1.5 days. Leaking power steering fluid, my 2004 4Runner just needed a few new hydraulic hoses. A few hundred bucks, I thought... The final tab was $1,500, and worth every penny. LugNuts fixed the rack-and-pinyon issues, the steering gear, and replaced leaking hoses. It's a 20 year old 4Runner with 185,000 miles, so that should be required normal maintenance. I really wanted this to be my mechanic shop for life because I've been burned so many times and yet still try to give every business the benefit of the doubt. We have a high lifetime value as we are the original owners of both cars and we stay on a premium maintenance schedule. We took our car here on several occasions and things were going well enough. Then we dropped off the car because their was a little squeak in one of the front brakes. Front brakes had been replaced with premium brakes and rotors turned less than 20k ago and the factories had previously lasted over 80k before replacement because of how gently my wife drives the car. Patrick called me and said the brakes were "paper thin", a line you will hear often if you ever wait for one hour in the lobby. I said fine go ahead and replace the brakes and rotors but please put my old parts in the cargo area. When I showed up to pick up the vehicle, Patrick said "Oops, they must have thrown your old parts away!" We haven't been back since. read more

I've been taking my cars here for nearly a decade, and Patrick & crew are the most honest mechanics I've ever known. A few years ago I had a power steering pump and a rack and pinion replaced at Lugnuts, which was far cheaper than what the Acura dealer wanted to charge me. The job took a few days and the steering felt like new when I picked it up, but something about the new gear sounded strange to me. I took it back a couple of times leaving them with my best description of what to listen for, and both times nobody else could hear what I was hearing. They made a note of it, and I moved on. I'm used to this with my cars, as I work with audio and I guess I have overly sensitive hearing--so I accepted that nothing was inherently wrong and that the new aftermarket equipment just sounded different. But two years after the job was done the steering started groaning in a louder and louder way that you couldn't ignore. I took it back to them and they re-did the entire job, free of charge! I hate to write this about a local business that I've gone to a number of times, but I am exceedingly angry at the way I was treated the last time I visited Lugnuts. I am going to say verbatim what happened so that there is no contesting of the truth. I brought my car in last week after getting a report done at another mechanic and Lugnuts quoted me almost $300 less than what the original report had quoted me. I brought my car in to Lugnuts to get it fixed based off of the report that I had done. While at Lugnuts, they informed me that there was another issue with the car that needed to be done as a safety priority. I fully agreed and let that $600 to $700 increase on my bill happen. I believed that it was necessary in order to make my car safe to drive. In total, my bill went from $1600 that the original mechanic quoted me to $2000 at lugnuts (LG had originally quoted $1200-$1400 based on the report). Then, less than a few days later, my car started to sound like it was struggling to turn over. I called to see if Patrick would listed to it to make sure I wasn't being hyper sensitive about car problems. I brought in the car around 5:30 in the evening and he told me "sounds great!" And so I left. About 14 hours later the battery was 100% completely dead. Nothing. I called Patrick asking about if something could have happened and to discuss how bizarre this problem was 72 hours post getting my car fixed and that I was hoping he could see why I was calling and trying to understand what happened. He went off on me. He said I was accusing him of breaking my car (I was not but this feels like projection) and that it "sounded fine" yesterday evening even though I clearly could hear something was wrong with it. He did NOT tell me to bring my car in to take a look. He did NOT have any empathy for trying to help me understand how this could have happened. He just said that when the weather heats up and cools down that this can happen - the lows have not been below 50 and the highs have not been above 75 so I doubt that's the cause. I ended up calling the original body shop back and not only did they say that there was no problems on the report in regards to my battery, but they also offered to have me come in and take a look at my car, even though they were not the ones who fixed it. I also was able to go to AutoZone, and they determined that I actually had a valid warranty (1 month!) on my battery still so I was able to get it replaced. But I will never go to this mechanic again I believe that he took advantage of my ignorance and overcharged me for things, I recommend going to almost any other mechanic than this one. I am sure that Patrick will come on here and try to argue what happened but this is verbatim what happened. read more

For an automotive repair shop that works on vehicles, they don't/won't work on transmissions. I went to get my oil and transmission fluid serviced, to my surprise they couldn't do a simple transmission change. The desk jockey was very rude to me and refused to answer my transmission questions. I will never consider taking my vehicle here, nor will I recommend them to anyone. A better option to get your vehicle serviced is Groovy Automotive or any where else besides Lugnuts . You can get all your maintenance needs taking care of in one location, one visit. read more

First, I would like to say thank you to Jason and Patrick for providing such an efficient courteous and clean environment at lugmuts. As well, to all the staff at lugnuts for how quickly and efficiently they get the job done correctly. I brought my car in late Friday afternoon to see if they could help me. I had been in an accident the week before and the AC had quit working. Unfortunately the lady who hit me did not have insurance, so this was coming out of my pocket as well!!! They quickly and efficiently figured out the issues with the vehicle and gave me a reasonable and fair estimate. Monday morning I dropped off my car and by Monday afternoon my car was already back in service. This may have taking a couple days at another shop and with a higher sticker price to boot!!! Called around to well-reviewed mechanics and found that Lugnuts had the cheapest diagnostic fee to find out what's going on with a check engine light out of all I called. ($75 v. $98) Within a couple hours, they called me to tell me what was wrong with it and gave me a price for the repair. It was expensive, but ultimately in line with the range of prices from other shops. I went to pick it up to have some time to decide what to do, and he suggested I check to see if my car was still under warranty. I didn't think it was. Turns out, I had 2 months left on my warranty and this was a covered repair, so I took it to the dealership and got it all done for free. Had Lugnuts not suggested that, I would've wasted $1,200! So grateful to them for that. Fast forward a week, and our *other* vehicle was acting up after we got new tires on it somewhere else. We took it back to the tire shop and they insisted it wasn't anything they did. So we took it to Lugnuts, who told us... get this.... the lugnuts weren't put back on correctly! Good experience at Lug Nuts. I brought my car in and waited there. They have a nice little waiting room with comfy leather sofas and a flat panel TV which was playing the olympics - I think in HD. Jason worked on my car, I think he's the owner and I may have gotten special treatment from him because of a connection. Had a bad squeak that was finally fixed - turned out to be mainly from a bad crank pulley (harmonic balancer). They had to order it from somewhere and Jason said it would take a couple hours to get there but he would drop me off at home and pick me up when the car was ready! The final bill was fair, especially with the shuttle service, and the work was quality. read more

When I was growing up, I was very much interested and spent a great deal of my youth looking for such wondrous creatures as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster, and chupacabras. Later I became a bit of a skeptic, but recently my mind might be changed because I finally found something rarer than any of these things: an honest mechanic. I've been going here since I moved to south Austin a few years ago, and it's always been terrific. The service is top notch, and I've never dealt with a more coherent and honest group of folks. They do excellent work and it's always way fast, too. If every mechanic shop were Lugnuts, the world would be a much better place. Twice Jason has turned down work to tell me it's still under warranty and I can get it done free at a dealer! Who does that? Honest, hardworking people who genuinely care about their customers, that's who. They've also fixed my brother's terrible brakes for cheap and in record time, well done! Never in my life did I think I'd be writing up a positive mechanic review on yelp. These guys impressed me from day 1...which was 4 months before I ever took my car in! I read great reviews, sent them an email requesting a quote, and they replied with a reasonable, straightforward quote via email (wonderful for my busy work life). When I finally took it in, they had my quote on record, walked out me to discuss another concern I had and then said they would have it up on lifts in 2 hours with the car back that afternoon. Even better? They did LESS work than quoted on my brakes! They said the front pads did NOT need replacing, they turned all my rotors, charged less than quoted (due to less labor and parts) and even accepted my GoLocal card for 15% off parts! Patrick and his crew always take great car of my wife's and my car and they are always upfront about pricing and why things cost what they do. Not only that, they're timely and really great about calling you and explaining things clearly-- I'm not a car guy at all, and things are always explained to me in a way that I feel comfortable making a decision. Examples of awesomeness: wife's brakes getting replaced and it was well over the $99 bucks you pay at Brake-check or similar. They explained that they're using much nicer discs that not only perform better but last a heck of a lot longer so in the end we'd be paying less over time than the $99 dollar jobs that would eventually cause us to replace other parts of the brake system sooner. Mind put to ease and they said we really only had to have the back brakes done and could come back in a few months to get the front done. my old beater car had an oil leak, apparently the oil pan was smashed (my car sucks). They ordered a new pan and got me up and running again. A few weeks later I noticed oil dripping pretty badly, apparently one of the gaskets was bad, and my engine was overheating and was bone dry on coolant (my fault, I refilled it before I brought the car in). They replaced the gasket, did a pressure check on the radiator to look for leaks, drove the car around to see if it was still overheating. The gasket was under warranty from them replacing the oil pan and they didn't charge me a dime for checking on the radiator. I'm not taking my car or any future one anywhere else and I always recommend these guys to others now. read more

On my lunch break today I noticed a metal-on-metal sound when I depressed my brakes. Since I'd be taking off on a road trip later in the evening, I was frantic to find a place that would be able to fix my brakes for a reasonable price before the end of the day. Normally I take my car to Yost for repairs (which is another awesome mechanic), but due to the fact that their hours are inconvenient and their location is far from my work I knew this wasn't an option. With the aid of my fellow Yelpers, I was pointed in the direction of Lugnutz. I called and Patrick told me that they'd be able to diagnose the problem, fix it, and have my car ready by closing time (6ish, as it says on their door) if I brought it in soon. I dropped my car off at 145 and got a call back at 215. I was told that my brake pads and rotors did not need replacing and that the noise I was hearing was probably due to rust on the rotors caused by all the moisture from the recent rains. I was flabbergasted. Lugnuts could have easily told me I needed expensive repairs or new brake pads or rotors or anything but instead they were honest. They didn't even charge me for taking the wheels off and taking a look at the brakes! I offered to at least pay a tip, but they wouldn't accept it. I will definitely be bringing my car back here next time it needs repairs and highly recommend it to anyone needing repairs/maintenance on their cars. read more

Lugnuts is one of the best auto shops I have ever interacted with. My family and I have taken our vehicle to Lugnuts at least five times in the last year and a half. All of our experiences have been very positive and the work is always quality. The most notable experience I have had with this shop was my second visit and a bit of an emergency. My truck broke down the day before my family and I were going to use it to move our household goods and needed to have the repairs done ASAP. When I arrived at the shop with two children (including an infant) I explained how urgent the fix was. The person manning the desk listened without irritation and added my vehicle to the day's queue. I crossed my fingers. It took about 30 minutes for them to diagnose the problem and give me an estimate. During that time, I once again interacted with the person at the desk to ask if there was anywhere the kids and I could walk to get some baby food as we had not planned to be stranded. In addition to directing me to Sprouts he also offered us some baby food he had in the office form his baby visiting earlier so we would not be forced to walk to the store. Although my kids and I ended up walking to the store anyhow I was FLOORED by the courtesy and compassion shown to us. My husband and I NEVER take our vehicles anywhere else. This place is great. I will definitely keep coming here for car issues. I recently went in just to have the car looked at - it had been making a noise that neither my husband or I had ever heard before. I gave them my pitiful "Well, it kinda sounds like a whoosh and seems to be related to when the wheels turn" explanation, and I watched as they really looked over the whole car. Patrick explained that the noise could've likely been from the bad tires, but said they were going to go ahead and give it a more in-depth look. Thank goodness! The brakes were totally gone. This was after having them worked on twice within the past year, and specifically requesting that they be looked at less than two months ago. So Patrick came back in and asked me to come and have a look at what they'd found. I really appreciated that he took the time and effort to explain all of the issues to me, and that he was happy to answer my questions in a way that was easy for me to understand. We spent several minutes just walking around the car and I got a pretty decent lesson on tire wear and how exactly brakes work. It turned out that the brakes were the major concern, but the car also needed struts (it's an 04 Hyundai with 100,000 miles on it). Patrick worked up a separate estimate for all of the work and explained how it could be broken up or done in different ways depending on how much money we could spend. They were able to overhaul the front brakes and fix up the rear brakes that day. I opted to wait while the work was being done. Aside from giving me the remote, Patrick was so nice that he even offered to drive me to grab some lunch since it was going to be a while before the work was done. (so give them a break and use these guys already)!!! In the past two months we have had the oil changed on the minivan, my dad was in from Ohio and needed an air filter (they were great to him- thanks!!), and we had some service done on the civic. As always....these guys are so reasonable for what they do. They don't try to rip you off!!! Lugnuts was the auto repair shop that I've been looking for. I've taken / sent three different cars their way in the last two month's. They were able to give a quick diagnosis in two of the three cases - the third one was more difficult but was still diagnosed within the day. In one case (A/C compressor), the person didn't have the cash to fix the issue. When asked if the shop would be willing to recharge the system if the compressor was replaced, they said no problem.
