Scene: the year is 2020, there is a pandemic happening all around the globe and it's 7:00 Sunday evening on Mother's Day. My car hadn't been driven much over the last 7 weeks due to shelter orders to stay home, so my battery went bad. I had to get a jump start to leave my house for a couple of errands, but I thought once jumped, the battery sort of recharged itself. Not so Lois Lane! It died again at the gas station and the kindness of strangers took care of me. So, in a mild panic, I needed to find a way to replace my battery on a Sunday evening and Yelp steered me to Auto Zone. I was like, huh? But one reviewer said she got her battery replaced in 10 minutes & I was all like HELL YEAH. ON MY WAY! First of all: ain't NOBODY open late on a Sunday in Austin for an emergency like this, so I was already impressed when I walked in. Second: because it's late on a Sunday, there was only one in line ahead of me, so I was seen quickly. Third: Robert Ruiz might as well have revealed his Superman cape as he swooped in and showed me the battery he recommended AND it came with FREE INSTALLATION (!) by him because he's awesome. They typically don't change out batteries in my particular pain-in-the-ass car, but he said he could totally do it. Fourth: installation was complete in 10-12 minutes and I didn't have to wake up Monday morning having to seek out another jump and then go to have it replaced at some big box shop where I know the wait would have likely been much longer. Went in to the store today at around 3 for a simple engine check. There were three workers in the front, and one of the workers I didn't catch the name but it was a woman, she was helping a gentleman who wasn't capable of speaking and she was getting more aggressive in her tone towards the man because he wasn't responding back to her using words. I heard her coworker tell her "he's deaf he cannot hear you" and even after someone telling her the customer is deaf she still stands there and tells the customer to their face "I just am so frustrated I can't yell any louder for you to understand ". Clearly she was pissed off and annoyed with her job and doesn't understand what being deaf really means but that doesn't mean treating a deaf customer in that way even after being told by her coworker that the customer was deaf. Management needs to seriously look into training their employees better it was a sad thing to hear and see. read more

I had to go in to buy a headlight and their employees, Xavier Garcia and Jair maya were excellent. Xavier was very attentive to me and was very knowledgeable. I had brought cash 90 dollars into the store to pay for the new headlight and I had left the cash on the counter because I had left to look at headlights with Xavier. I have been coming here for 2 years now with my neighbor/friend Albert and I really love this location a lot. All the employees are always nice and welcoming and know their shit too, all get along well too. James is the man in Pro Services and always knows anything you need info on or to find the part! Wanted to show some love towards James and his crew... the O'riley's by my house the guys are ALWAYS grumpy/not friendly and act very inconvenienced when asking about looking up parts... Waited in line for 20+ minutes to purchase one container of oil. All of the employees saw that the line was 5 people deep and didn't open another register, hence the 20+ minute wait. It was very hot in there and the area is sketchy. I recommend going to the auto shop across the street. read more

I needed a battery for my car. I literally parked, walked inside and walked to the counter, ten minutes later, the new battery is installed, me happily singing along to Lady Gaga as I head home. Super quick and friendly service. I didn't even have to touch anything which is great because I don't like having grease on my hands. No appointment is needed but if you go, there may be a few minutes for a wait if quite a few people are getting batteries installed. read more

I see a lot of great reviews for this location but they must be old because all three employees I've spoken to are easily the least competent employees I've spoken to, in any line of business, ever. I ordered 3 parts. 2 were set to arrive from San Antonio, and one was apparently in stock at a different store. I drove to that store, and they didn't have it. I had it sent to the original store I visited. When I arrived a few days later, they said it it was never ordered. Two days later I came back and only one of the two parts I ordered from San Antonio arrived. They said the other part was AGAIN never ordered, but my receipt proves they were ordered. These guys are unbelievably bad at their jobs. You're better off riding a bike than dealing with these people. read more

If I could rate my experience at this Auto Zone with more than 5 stars I would. I went in as I assumed I was having issues with my battery to have it tested for free and it turned out that I did need a new battery. I have an old car, so getting the battery out of the tray was a nightmare as the nuts/bolts were rusted out. Oscar went above and beyond to make sure not to completely break the tray so I didn't have to spend more time and money getting it replaced. Thanks, again, Oscar! I came into the Autozone at 920pm and it was raining, apparently they were waxing the floors...as soon as I asked for windshield wipers the man who I assumed was the manager on duty was quickly to dismiss me...saying that they couldn't get to the product. There was a nice gentlemen (bald headed very friendly) willing to help me out. Really disappointed in the Gentlemen who looked like he was in charge...I felt like he just wanted to go home and was frustrated about how his day was. I just want to thank the service member who checked me out at the cash register and put on my windshield wipers. He was more than happy to help. Other than the guy who just didn't seem like he didn't even care. Very disappointed in management and/or whoever he was. If you are going to wax and stain the floors wait until after hours. So, my car eats up starters and batteries with a voracity not often seen in a four year old automobile. Yesterday, after a long day of work, I realized my car was dead due to several factors: 1. Karma 2. Starter sucking juice from the battery 3. I left the lights on. I called Jessica R. who didn't laugh at all - she gets extra credit for that - who hopped into her car and shot down to South Austin to save the day. Only, there was no saving as my car was super dead, not kind of dead. We called The Baconator for advice who started our way. In the meantime we sat on the curb outside Starbucks and put on our thinking caps. Eventually a totally hot guy coming out of the Starbucks suggested that I call the store I bought my battery from and see if they would come and switch it out. What?!? This cannot be!!! It is! Jarrod from AutoZone and his friend with the cast thingie on his hand came by and switched out my battery no questions asked. (All the while enjoying our dirty jokes! Yay for vulvas!) I never write bad reviews because I know how it impacts a business, but I have to comment on how my situation was handled. My car literally caught fire while I was driving because the AutoZone employee didn't secure the battery hold-down bracket correctly after installing my new battery. As a result, it came loose, began scraping against the positive terminal of the battery while I was driving, which caused sparks, and then flames. Someone literally ran me off the road so I would turn my car off and extinguish the fire. We lifted the hood and saw the loose bracket causing sparks. I took it to AutoZone the next morning, explained (nicely) what had happened, and asked them to secure the bracket. The employee who had installed the battery was so concerned in covering his butt and proving to me that this incident had nothing to do with him, that he actually tried to convince me that "liquid" on the battery had caused the fire. When I pointed out that a) there was no liquid on the brand new battery and b) metal on metal causes sparks, and that I'd seen the cause of the sparks, he looked at me and told me I was wrong. No accountability AND treating me like an idiot. Everyone makes mistakes. I would have had so much respect for him if he'd said, "Oh, my gosh, a fire! Are you okay? How scary, let me fix that for you. I'm so sorry." Then remedy the situation. Then this would've been a very positive review about a solid company that effectively and kindly fixed a problem. As is, I will never go back to AutoZone and am telling everyone this story. They are appalled. read more

I've kept going for years because this location is staffed by really nice folks who seem genuinely concerned about helping you with whatever you're working on. They always take the time to help, will come out and look at the problem, give advice etc. More than once they've saved me from a trip to the mechanic. read more

I called the local auto mechanic shop and they told me it would be $90 to plug my truck in the computer and get the codes. I went to AutoZone, I believe the gentleman who helped me his name was Jake. This guy was very helpful and informative, in short he was awesome. Came out of the store looked over my truck, hooked it up to a computer and gave me the correct code information. The guy set me on the path to fix my vehicle myself and save money. I will happily come back to this store from now on.! read more

I was looking at buying a used car on Friday after Thanksgiving 2012. A friend of mine who owned a used car lot said that instead of using a used car inspector, I should take it to Firestone. There they would just read the codes from the computer, possibly charge a small fee. I called Firestone, and, well, you can read my review of what happened there. It wasn't a good experience. I called AutoZone at Stassney and South 1st and they said, "Sure, bring it by!" I drove there with the car and a guy came out with a device to read the codes. He then walked right back inside to the computer and printed out everything that popped up. I was handed the paperwork and he said, "Have a great day!" Fast customer service, exactly what I wanted, and no sales pitch. I didn't buy anything on this visit but I do go to Auto Zone often and I love it every time. read more

I went in to get a battery at Advanced Auto Parts for my car and they quoted me $169.99 so I asked if they had a cheaper battery as I'm used to paying around $70. He tells me to go across the street (middle aged guy w/ glasses at computer) to Auto Zone and they should have one. I go across the street to Auto Zone and he (Victor Ochoa) quoted me the same thing and they have 2 in stock (waste of time). He leaves and then comes back and tells me they don't have ANY in stock. So I said that he should contact corporate to ensure they update their inventory system. So I go back across the street to Advanced Auto Parts to get the $169.99 battery and the guy fumbles with the battery forever and it takes him forever to get the battery out and then can't even screw it back in right so I just tell him to give me the parts and I'll do it myself. Just screw back in the terminals so I can get my car running and leave. I would've went out of my way to give them business for treating me right (was passing by and stopped but don't live over there), but after experiencing this I will NEVER go back to this place and will tell EVERYONE to steer very clear of this store. Worst service ever and their business will suffer from it. GO ELSEWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for nothing. I will screw it back in myself. I hope corporate reads these as well so you can take corrective action against these guys as they are tarnishing your brand name!! read more

Once I picked the new battery the employee (wish I could remember his name) took the battery and tools out and changed it. Jaime came out with the thingamajig that plugs in under the steering column to tell you why the CHECK ENGINE light is on. Then he walked me back in the store, looked up the code, explained it layman's terms EXACTLY what was wrong. He gave me two printouts--one with the part, and one with details about the code. He didn't try to persuade me to buy the part, instead he explained how it's a sensitive part that needs to be cleaned with a cotton-swab, and to try that first before buying the $80 part. 300 miles from home and my battery cable snaps. Ok, maybe I helped it along, but the end result was the same. Did I mention it was Good Friday? As in Easter weekend, everyone is closed and I have to be back in Dallas Monday morning? Panic. I was able to get the car running, another long story, and hobbled down to the nearest Auto Zone, where my knight, Raymond, was polishing up his armor. He helped me pick out the right part and then showed me how to fix my battery connection. In 15 minutes, I was back on the road. The employees at this Autozone are the greatest employees any business could possibly ask for. They are professional, smart, efficient, and honest. I have been twice, and received ridiculously helpful complementary noob-guidance both times. I currently own my first car ever, and both employees who helped me out on separate occasions were super patient and answered all of my unnecessary questions, even taking me and my replacement parts out to the car and teaching me all about extraneous details to quell my curiosity, going above and beyond the typical range of helpfulness. I even caught them on the phone one time from under my car while I was attempting my very first oil change, and was met with the most genuine desire to help possible; hours after I drove home from the shop, they were still more than willing to help me out regarding my recent visit and minimal purchase.
