I'm giving a combined 3.5 star rating for both the restaurant and the bar/lounge. This restaurant and lounge, now embedded at the Village Inn, used to be in another location but moved into the newly renovated hotel. It's still quite popular with the locals, so allow wait times on the weekends. LOUNGE (3 Stars): Stopped in on our arrival night and went in for a nightcap. There were four people working the bar/lounge area, but service wasn't great. In fact, we had to request that the bar be wiped down and it was sticky and wet from the previous patrons who were long gone. Cocktails took some time to make and deliver. Seemed like a lot of locals were hanging out, and even though they made cocktails, I would say that this is more of a beer/shots/jack-n-coke kind of place. RESTAURANT (4 Stars): Stopped in for breakfast two days during our hotel visit. The service was better than in the lounge, the food was tasty, and the portions generous. Everyone kept telling me I had to try the breakfast burritos, so I chose the Chorizo Burrito ($14) and it was okay, not "wow". On the other hand, I thought that the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs ($22) with biscuits & gravy was very good, as were the Pancakes ($20), French Toast ($20, and Ham Swiss Scramble ($10). Dave's Place carries through with the mid-century modern décor of the hotel and is a convenient addition to have both a bar and nice restaurant available for your stay, or to visit for locals. We were seated in a booth which was a tad uncomfortable due to a gap between the bottom and seat back. Overall though the renovation of the whole property is very nice. Very classy with outdoor spaces with firepits. Not sure if they served food out there but still a nice place to relax. Our server was pleasant and efficient. It was a Saturday night so they were serving prime rib. My hubby and I both ordered it, one 14oz and one 12 oz. We had a choice of soup or salad. I initially wanted the lobster bisque but after tasting it changed my mind. It was not good. Dinner came and while the flavor of the meat was good, it was overcooked. No pink at all. In hindsight I wish we had sent it back because of the cost. We ate some of it and took the rest home. I will juice it up for french dips. It came with a delicious baked potato and fresh, if slightly overcooked vegies. All in all it was a good dinner. Although I'll probably try something else next time. read more

Dave's Place is in my top 3 favorite restaurants in Lompoc! The artichoke they have available after 4pm is a MUST! I'm not going to lie, I've ordered it 7 times since Valley Inn opened and sadly 3 of those times they were not edible :( they were so undercooked that I wasn't able to even eat them because it wasn't coming off the stems. Sadly those 3 times happened through DoorDash so it's not like I could ask for it to be remade, I just had to deal with DoorDash customer service. However, when they ARE edible it's so delectable that I chance it every time. The experiences I had with DoorDash (4 times) the food was cold every time. The 3 times I sat at a table in person, it was a phenomenal time. Because of that, they earned 4 stars. But avoid DoorDashing. In person, the food is fresh and delicious, full of flavor, and I've never had to wait for a table. The service was good. For lunch, you need to try the tri tip plate! I absolutely loved it. My spouse tried the club sandwich and loved it! The thick sliced turkey made the club sandwich stand out for quality and flavor versus other places that use thin sliced deli meat. I LOVE the patio seating, and that you get the choice to sit out front or in the back. I've sat at both and enjoyed both patios. Overall, I suggest eating in person (avoiding online delivery services) and you will have a pleasant experience! read more

Came in with my son on 5th April at about 3:45pm. Driving through the area and decided to stop by. Didn't know the closing hours changed from 8pm to 4 pm. I understand, it's Easter Sunday. At the cashier's station waiting area, two employees completely ignored us, answered the phone, though, and let the caller know they were closing in ten minutes. The lady who answered the phone faced us as she turned to get the phone and simply ignored us. She hung up and both continued to ignore us. I made a comment about a modicum of customer service would be nice such as letting us know they were closing and it seemed to trigger then. I will not be recommending this establishment to out of state coworkers who occasionally stay at the hotel. This type of poor "customer service" is rare in our area. read more

This restaurant was attached to our hotel, so we were set on trying them out for either dinner or breakfast! After a morning of driving and going to the beach we were excited to have dinner with drinks at Dave's Place. We came in and the place was very busy! We opted to sit at the lounge and we got the last table available. The lounge was lively and the staff was so friendly. We ordered drinks right away and looked at the menu. We decided on ordering a clam chowder for each of us and sharing a BBQ combo plate with two meats and two sides. Everything was soo good and great portions. We especially loved the clam chowder and the baby back ribs! We totally recommend this spot and we heard their breakfast is also delicious!! read more

Finally got to try Dave's Place, and I think it was absolutely delicious. It was a beautiful day, so we sat on the patio, and we ordered some artichokes for appetizers. We must have caught them on a good day because the artichoke ended up being one of the tastiest artichokes I've ever had, and the aioli was fantastic. The corn was good and the steak skewers were even better. Our service was great and we had fun touring the grounds once we finished eating. Such a great place. read more

So about 7 months ago I was disappointed in Dave's Place, went back this last weekend and thought id give it 1 more go.....again was disappointed, went for breakfast and got the chicken fried steak and its was pure salt, I managed to get down a 1/3 of it down mixing it with salsa and the egss and called it quits cause it was still salty!!!! This place has got it going on! I came in on a Wednesday and it was lively! It's a beautiful set up with a great view of the outdoors. The server was friendly and attentive, she made sure we had everything we needed throughout dinner. I ordered the trip tip dinner and my grandma got the steak skewers. Dave's place is a great place to eat for lunch. Our experience was overall a great time, with kind staff, and good food. The lunch menu has a wide selection of items. After looking over the menu, I ordered the chimichurri burger. The burger was cooked to my liking, but unfortunately was a little bit overpowered by the blue cheese. This did not allow me to taste the other elements of the burger very well, but from what I could taste, it was great. While named the chimichurri burger, it did also seem to be a little light on the chimichurri. The patty itself was great and juicy. The staff were very nice, and the service was great. While I did enjoy the burger, I did have to scrape off the blue cheese to be able to taste the rest of the burger. I also found the price quite high, but I think that the prices is pretty typical for the area. Another member of my party ordered the bananamisu. I was able to taste this dish, and I thought it was quite delicious. The bananamisu had great flavor, and the creamy desert was wonderfully complimented by the flavor of the banana. The price of this item is great, at $4 for this pretty large side. We were able to share this with about three people, after our meals. Overall, the lunch service was pretty great, but there were some factors that brought down my experience. For lunch, I would rate this place 4.5/5. read more

The food here deserves a standing ovation -- seriously, every bite was next-level delicious. From the crispy fried zucchini with that INCREDIBLE dipping sauce to the flavorful sandwiches, perfectly seasoned fries, and rich, gooey chocolate cake... Dave is clearly a master in the kitchen. You can tell a lot of care goes into the food, and it shows. The aesthetics of the place are beautiful and welcoming -- it has that cozy yet elevated vibe that makes you want to linger. That said, the service didn't quite match the quality of the food. It wasn't terrible, but considering it wasn't super busy, it could've been more attentive and friendly. Still, the food and atmosphere won me over, and I'll definitely be back for more. Hoping for a stronger service experience next time, because everything else was top-tier. read more

We came to Dave's place about a week after the soft opening. My husband and I were excited to try this place out and it was a nice place to celebrate our anniversary. It's a semiformal restaurant with black tablecloths, and cloth napkins. We appreciated the decor, many photos displayed of Lompoc valley. We loved the ambiance. The lighting, the palm trees and pool outside, and the glow coming in from the lounge. The red booths and unique lighting fixtures give a vintage feel. Food was good. My husband enjoyed the new York sirloin. I enjoyed the fish n chips. Pricing seemed a little high in my opinion. My husband loves red meat so the BBQ options were great. I don't eat red meat myself thus my options were limited. It would be nice to see more poultry options in the future. We plan to come back again with other family. About three or four weeks ago, we went to eat lunch at Dave's place. My husband ordered ribs, which were supposed to be half pork and half beef. They were not they were all pork and the waitress never notified us of this and he didn't notice until after he started eating them. I told the waitress and she acted like it was no big deal so I asked to speak to the manager and the person who cooked the ribs came and talked to us. When you order a meal, you should get what you ordered. Nothing more nothing less. If they run out, they should let you know at the time you put your order in. Overall, during our lunch, we were never once asked if we want refills on our drinks so it was not a great experience. read more

Went to Dave's on a Friday night and had the prime rib, my wife had the lobster ravioli, both were excellent. It was very busy and wait staff were very busy. A young busser named Skyler absolutely took our experience from good to great and filled in every one of our requests helping cover the busy wait staff. He's friendly and efficient. read more

I was excited to try Dave's Place after the remodel and the buzz about the place. I came here for breakfast midweek. The restaurant is lovely, and pleasing to the eye. They also have a lovely dining section outside. I was seated promptly. My waitress was very nice and the service was good throughout my meal. I ordered bacon, eggs, hash browns, sourdough bread, and coffee. I was hoping that the hash browns would be crunchy and tasty. I was served a block of dull, dry potatoes; with little flavor or pleasing texture. The sourdough bread was likewise, boring. Dull. I'd love for Dave's to offer some higher-end sourdough bread. I'll pay a couple dollars more for better bread. They serve very good coffee, and that's a plus. It's been a couple of months. I'd like to try Dave's Place again. I plan to return with my hubby and friends for another meal. 4-stars for very good service and coffee. Thank you! read more

If I was rating solely on service this would easily be a zero stars rating. When we arrived we waited 10 minutes to be sat with only 3 tables in the restaurant. After receiving the food we waited another 10 minutes for sauces at this point we were the only table inside. My drink sat there empty for the duration of our meal. The food was good, not great but not terrible. I used to love the village coffee stop cafe. I remember the meat being a less dry at the other location. The ambiance is nice however that is overthrown by the terrible service. Overall if you're looking to spend 50 dollars on lunch for two and wait 45 minutes and not receive any service this is the spot for you. read more

Disappointed... we reserved a table early for NYE on December 7th, we were told we were the first to place a reservation. Showed up early, first in line, and were not on the reservation list. Staff added us and asked us to sit and wait, for about 10 minutes we watched as they seated the rest of the line in all the booths, had to stand up and ask, and we were then seated at a lone table on the dance floor (booths were all taken). Sat for another 10+ minutes before we were able to order, staff was clustered at the check-in mostly, not on the floor - most booths were looking for the staff. The menu was different than we were shown when placing the reservation (was advertised as pre fixe menu with multiple courses). Ordered our drinks (dry, dirty, vodka martinis) and dinner (Filet Mignon, Mahi Mahi), the sides arrived after about 10 minutes (French onion soup, but served with no crouton or Gruyère?), after another 10 minutes we asked about our drinks, said the bar was backed up. Received the mains after another 10 minutes, drinks arrived shortly afterwards ... not dry, not dirty, and no olives... lots of sweet vermouth (yuck) Mahi with beurre blanc was very very bland, had to salt it heavily to get any flavor (I don't generally add salt to food), potatoes were mush. Filet Mignon was drowned in a garlicky brown sauce (why?!?), but also bland. We ended up leaving a lot on the plate (and was so hungry). They did remove the drinks from the bill, and said they had two bartenders in training? Unfortunately we have been there for dinner a few times before and each time had not so great service (long waits for service, missing sides, wrong food delivered). I think we will just avoid the restaurant going forward, the bar is still a bit spotty on service (sitting for quite some time with the bartenders ignoring all but the seats next to the taps) but sandwiches and burgers are pretty good. Lowered expectations. Bummed as it's such a great location, and atmosphere - and just down the street. A sad end to 2025. read more

The food is noticeably worse and more expensive than it was at the Village Coffee Stop. Sad to see our little neighborhood diner get turned into a charmless and mediocre hotel lobby. I tried to sit for brunch one weekend and even though half the tables were available, they couldn't sit us for an hour because the kitchen was too swamped. Needless to say we went elsewhere. Was initially seated next to 3 LUSD (Cabrillo High?) guys that were loud and foul mouthed ( lots of loud MF and other foul talking). Ask to be reseated and gave reason.. This is my fourth experience with Dave's and the best yet. My hubby and I went for dinner last night. He had fish and chips (only on dinner menu) and I had the half rack of pork ribs. They use rock fish and hand make an 805 beer batter. Outstanding. He subbed (+$2) zucchini sticks for fries. And they were great. Meal also comes with slaw. The ribs were smoky and meaty with a light brush of bbq sauce. Meal comes with a corn succotash and you pick two sides. House red potato salad is very good (in case you're interested). My friend and I went to Dave's for a girls night out, our server was Trish she was absolutely amazing!!! She recommended the malibu pineapple verblanc Mahi Mahi with mashed potatoes and green beans!! Omg it had incredible flavor!!! It was do die for!!! My friend ended up getting the steak kabobs, loaded baked potatoe and sautéed mushrooms but we were so excited we only got a picture of my plate lol. Trish was very professional, knowledgeable, personable, and kept checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed! The next time we go im definitely requesting her as my server!! My daughter and I went for dinner tonight and I must say we were very satisfied with everything Dave's Place has to offer! The food was excellent and the service was top notch! Trisha was very attentive and helpful in suggesting a drink I would like and when I couldn't decide between the tritip sandwich and the salmon dish she gave great feedback on both. I landed on the salmon because I just love salmon and it was delicious! I had the pineapple margarita too and it was so good! Trisha gave us excellent service that made us feel welcomed and comfy.
