Good quality ingredients and good vibes. However...I order the same few things here and noticed that the dishes aren't standardized. Something is different about the dish (especially portion sizes varying wildly) every time. It would be awesome if they settled on a set way to assemble these dishes and trained everyone on that. Recent example: I ordered fries for pickup about 1/2 hour before closing. They probs should not have taken my order and just said "kitchen closed." What I got was half the usual amount, and looked like the cold dregs from the fryer. Seems like they forgot the order and/or had already shut down the fryer, and just gave me those leftovers when I showed up to pick up the order. But sometimes I have the opposite experience. I want to add, I got a personal pizza here and dough was severely undercooked. I have also seen people keep their food prep gloves on while handling register. Overall seems disorganized, and maybe the owners are better suited to retail than restaurants and should just focus on the gas station. read more

I waited a full hour for my food and honestly have no idea how it even tastes--because I ended up walking out. The experience was that bad. In the end, I wasted an entire hour of my life for nothing. There was zero transparency from the start. The cashier didn't bother to mention that the kitchen was severely backed up until after we had already paid. That's completely unacceptable. If there's going to be a long wait, customers deserve to know upfront so they can decide whether it's worth it. To make things worse, this place is cash only, and their credit card machine conveniently "wasn't working." That should also be clearly communicated before ordering, not after. I came with my girlfriend--she usually picks the spots, but I chose this place for once and instantly regretted it. We waited an hour and still never got our food. The downside is that one time I was there, the owner (I'm guessing) was straight up yelling at an employee right in front of several customers. I am so upset that I paid $21 for my plate that I am writing this review as I sit here at the restaurant. The food is awful and the service is just as bad. We were a party of four that ordered. Right after we sat down a party of about 12 bicyclist sat down beside us. After about 40 minutes of waiting the bicyclists next to us started getting their food before us. The girl with the braces was coming out and screaming names and handing it to them at their table. I was upset. I walked up to the register and asked why we didn't get our food yet. She told us it was ready and nobody claimed it and it had been sitting there. She also said she yelled our name. We were sitting right next to the bicyclist she was serving, so clearly that didn't happen. When I opened my meal I got a big plate of dry, cold chicken. I was furious. You can see it in the photo I posted how bad it was. Hands down never coming here again. Waste of money and time. Save yourself the wait and just avoid this place. read more

I really loved this place during the soft opening days and I was so excited to support a restaurant in my neighborhood. But then they changed the recipes raised the prices by a lot - almost double. I requested my rib-eye skewers medium rare. They were served well-done and cold. My husband's falafel was also cold. The rib-eye was also overspiced, which the restaurant didn't used to do. I asked for no pickles, but got pickles anyway. They started putting pickles - on the rice!??? My husband and I complained a little and brought it to their attention that everything was cold. They made an excuse that they prepared one plate and let it sit while they prepared the other plate. I said that we were sitting right there the whole time and if one plate is done, they should bring it out. I got a mild apology. "We'll try to do better next time." I lost my appetite. We used to get our steak medium when we went and there were no pickles on the rice and no heavy spices on the meat. No cold vegetable underthe meat. It's unappetizing. I've been a customer of Happy Mediterranean since its Soft Opening, but my experiences have become increasingly disappointing. The first visit was okay, but since then, the consistency has been lacking. Since then, prices have increased significantly. The quality of the food has been hit-or-miss, with changes like the removal of hummus from the chicken shawarma bowl unless you pay extra, and sometimes receiving dry rotisserie chicken instead of shawarma. The food also takes almost an hour to arrive, and often comes out cold. Each visit also brings new employees, suggesting a high turnover, and the owner's behavior is extremely unprofessional. I witnessed the owner publicly berate an employee over a pizza, even going so far as to threaten to fire him. It was clearly intended to be a display, but all it did was make the atmosphere deeply uncomfortable. No one should be treated that way, especially in front of customers. I won't be returning, and I strongly encourage others to think twice before supporting this establishment. This kind of environment definitely affects the quality of the food and the overall customer experience. read more

I was highly disappointed and dissatisfied with the food taste, food quality, service, wait time, and prices. An absolute wreck of an establishment. I arrived and ordered before a party of 10, then proceeded to wait at the cold tables (which had heaters throughout, but none were turned on despite the chilly temperatures). After 45 minutes of waiting, I noticed the cashier was bringing out food, one by one, to five of the ten people in the party that had arrived after me. At that point, I went up to inquire about my food, only to discover it had been sitting out in the cold. When I asked why she hadn't at least called out my name--especially since I had watched her personally deliver food directly to the large party--she replied, unbothered, "I did." No apology. I'm not even sure I believe her, given the eye contact I made with her every time she stepped out from behind the counter. Now, onto the food (which was obviously cold): absolutely gag-worthy. The chicken shawarma was utterly disgusting, with unflavored meat that no one in my party could choke down without sipping their drink after just one bite. I typically prefer chicken on the dry side, but this wasn't edible. $21 wasted on just a plate of that. Everything it came with lacked flavor. Next, the gyro bowl. It normally comes with eight vegetables, but the person ordering requested only three. Despite this, the portioning was as if the other five vegetables had been included, so the bowl consisted almost entirely of meat and bulgur, with barely a hint of veggies. Very disappointing, especially for a warm dish that had been left out until cold. I will make it a point to tell all my friends, family, and any stranger I come in contact with to stay far away from this place. read more

The interior is beautiful, with elegant marble floors and walls and a large window that lets you watch the cooking in action. The atmosphere was lively with great music playing in the background, creating a warm and welcoming vibe. Our server, Georgious, was outstanding; friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable about every dish on the menu. He described each plate like he knew it by heart, which made choosing our meal a delight. At one point I walked up to the window to watch the food being prepared, and one of the chefs looked up, smiled, and went right back to his work; it felt personal and genuine. And the food? Long Review...... There were Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. And everything I got that said vegetables had a variety of fresh delicious vegetables. I got my food delivered, so I'm not sure what the restaurant was like. I got the fried vegetables and falafel bowl . The falafel had a lot of flavor and were crispy on the outside. The bowl was tasty and I like the variety of vegetables. A little bit of each thing placed on top of rice, I loved all the creamy sauces ( garlic, Taziki) , chopped pickles and beets. I would say this more than enough food for one person. I got the half skewer shrimp . Which was four shrimp with some kind of tasty sauce, on top of lettuce with some pickled beets and carrots on the side. A great option for a light tasty meal without bread. Basically protein with a good amount of vegetables Fattoush salad is one of my favorite salads in the world and I'm glad they have it. I like it with extra pomegranate "dressing ". Sauces /dips Garlic sauce - If you know what this is, you'll be excited they have it. I dip everything into it and mix it into everything but also I like garlic. Baba ghanoush - I'm pretty sure they make this eggplant dip in house and it has a nice smoky flavor Tzatziki- creamy and thick. Sometimes I get this places and it's super runny but this one was good. I have now eaten here around 60 times. I've had everything on the menu ( except the salmon ) and it's all fresh, full of flavor and continues to evolve. I was very happy to see Sunrise Farms produce finally make it into their kitchen. I especially enjoy the chicken kebab with Fattoush, hummus and grilled vegetables along with their warm pita bread. The food selections are amazing. I just wish they had dolma. Everything was more than appetizing and fresh to order and worth the weight and the ambience was relaxing, even though a thunderstorm rolled in fairly quickly, but we had already finished eating. Really great food. I got the chicken shawarma sandwich on pita and my husband got the chicken kabob sandwich. The flavors of each were unique and delicious. I also tried the falafel and hummus. This used to be our healthy, tasty go-to. I'm okay that the prices went up, since they've done that everywhere. And it's always taken awhile to get the food (due lots of call in orders??) but there are changes that will affect how much I go there in the future. 1. It is starting to look grimy and not pleasant to be in (it was kind of classy before, which is saying a lot for a place that looks out on a gas station): The kitchen equipment (the ends you can see from the glass in the waiting and dining areas (not seen while in the kitchen) are dirty with old food particles. There is a cover over the outdoor eating area nowadays, so it stays warmer which is a plus, but it also shows the grime on edges of the floor, rust on the heaters, and storage of a number of unused kitchen counters & large kitchen whatnots in the waiting and dining areas. Giant blue plastic trash/compost cans are the weights holding the canopy secure but add to the disarray. And, outside, old yellow weights, a huge ladder, and tons of bright orange cones all around the glass front and side make it look even more unpleasant. 2. You can skip noticing much of that if you go at night and/or get food to go, and wait in the car, which we often do so didn't really notice these changes as they were evolving, but now even the food presentation has changed. Our bowls used to come in wider, recyclable metal containers but now they're in narrower (but higher sided) all plastic, non-recyclable containers. Instead of the nice presentation of food & appetizers (allowing you space see and chose what to eat or what to mix together) it's all piled on top of each other, and you can't mix in the sauce or your food will spill out (best to bring it home and deconstruct it, or if very hungry, just start shoveling it in ;0) And, maybe because of the container change, they no longer add the advertised dollops of sauces on it. They now give another bit of plastic as a mini tub w/lid with a larger amount of mayo-like stuff, probably aioli (pleasant enough but not the same without the other dollops). Their rice has some kind of thin pasta mixed in it now. And while it looked pretty, a person I recommended it to was gluten intolerant so skipped their rice. I haven't yet been back to ask about what is in their rice, so it could very well be rice vermicelli... Also, the last time we ordered their homemade pita to go along with our baba ghanoush, it was just a whole cold pita, not toasted/warm/cut-that was just an added bummer. :0( CONCLUSION: All the non-recyclable plastic containers used, lack of advertised sauce(S) (they used to add multiple dollops of other things maybe baba ghanoush, hummus, something spicy, and smaller amount of aioli) in their bowls, the ingredients all piled on top of each other, and the unkempt atmosphere keeps me from recommending it anymore (the last person I recommended it to was not comfortable coming back). And it will no longer be our main go-to (although, we want to support this guy and will continue to check back). POSITIVE NOTES: The shawarma bowl I got the other day was still tasty (even w/out the aioli). The owner is friendly, and it is warmer to sit and wait or eat there these days due to a full coverage canopy and the heaters (although it might look best inside at night). They play fun, rockin' 80s music--often at an intense decibel, so waiting in the dining room or your car is more preferable on days when you're just not feeling it, otherwise feel free to enjoy rockin' out ;0, HELPFUL HINTS: Call in your order, then get there 5 min. or so before they say it will be ready so it's not cold. And double check for any sitting at the counter in case they forget to call your name (sometimes they're busy and don't realize you are waiting). read more

My boyfriend and I went here this past weekend for lunch. We did our usual and grabbed a plate to share between both of us, and we went with the beef plate this time. In the past, we have had chicken shawarma which easily a 10/10. The beef was just as good, if not better, than the chicken shawarma. The cashier was very friendly and helped us decide which salad we wanted. We tried the fattoush salad for the first time and it did not disappoint. I was a bit surprised to see the fries changed from the last time I had them, but thankfully they are still good and well-seasoned as always. We sat in their dining area which was in the shade and had plenty of seating options. I hope Happy Mediterranean will stay in Lompoc for many years to come! We ordered takeout here. Aside from it taking a long time there were parts of our order missing. The portions are big but the quality of the meat and salads were poor. The cheese in the Greek salad was spoiled and the Kafta was very dry. The bulgar also looked very different on the menu then to what I got. Beside these negatives the falafel was very good.
