This unexpected place has delicious food. I enjoyed the chicken and hummus. The service was friendly and it was very clean. I thought the pita bread tasted a little stale, but everything else was truly wonderful and the portion was great.

Really good hidden gem. I wouldn't have thought this liquor store would have a decent plate of food, but here we are. The food is seasoned well and the fact that you can walk throughout the store and buy drinks and other things to go with your meal is a plus. Good spot.

The Green Olive impressed me. It's Located within a clean convenient, liquor store with some tables for dine in space. It's not the right place for a date to impress someone with looks. But it will make its case with the quality and taste of its food. You can hear the meats being prepared freshly. Undeniable sounds and taste. Delicious kabobs here. I got the Combo plate with rice and 3 different meats. Hummus is made on site. Pita bread is from a package. Overall, a very good experience. Service was professional and courteous. You do have to wait because it is fresh to order. No problem for me. I would rather wait for fresh than being served something that has been lingering and languishing past its prime. Definitely worth a try. especially their hot sauce!

Grapeleaves. IDK what those ham strip lookin things are.

Shrimp is WAY TOO SALTY. 1st time trying this spot. Ordered the shrimp and a side of grape leaves. No customers were in there, but they were making doordash orders. Service was quick. The shrimp was awful. Way too salty. Borderline inedible but I was so hungry and had to eat something. The rice was good! The salad was ok. The humus was meh. The pita bread was cold and dry cardboard. Awful. The grape leaves (6 to an order) were new to me. Never had them before so I did not know what to expect. Rice wrapped in leaves. They were acrid. I guess it's an acquired taste? IDK I could not finish the 2nd one. I do not recommend. Table sitting area was nice and clean and ample. Do yourself a favor if you eat here, DO NOT order the shrimp. Awful. I will be back to be fair and try something else.

Passing through Santa Maria and was hungry and thinking about Mediterranean food. Not far off Highway 101 on Main St is The Green Olive. Dining area with seating inside a nice liquor store. The food is fabulous! Good portion and friendly service. I had a combo plate with chicken, shrimp, and ground beef kabobs. It included a nice salad, rice, hummus and pita bread. They have other sauces available to add for your meal. They have homemade fresh daily cookies also. Took an oatmeal raisin cookie to go. Very tasty and not sweet. Thanks for everything!

From the outside, it does not appear that there could be a restaurant with fantastic Mediterranean food. Walk into the liquor store towards the right side at the back tucked away is a nice, clean, quiet and authentic Mediterranean restaurant. They have delicious dishes, such as barbecue, shrimp, chicken, beef, hummus, veggie platter, and all sorts of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food fair. The food is fresh and it is made for you on the spot. Everything is seasoned perfectly well, not too much, just enough. Portions are sufficient. Service is friendly and prompt. This is a little hidden gem that you must try.

Gyro and chicken kabob plate

Food was great, although I did find the pita to be a bit dry. I was also highly confused where the restaurant was located. But found out shortly after it was inside a liquor store. Staff were friendly and I can't wait to try the other items on the menu The next time i'm in town.

What a hidden gem inside a liquor store! My husband had a catering event at work from them and loved it, so we went today with my parents and had a delicious lunch! The portions are huge for the price and is enough to take home. I highly recommend this place.

So, the place was nice (it's in the back of a liquor store). I got the mixed grill, and the meat tasted like it was under cooked (Especially the kofta) I thought the Kofta was going to be lamb, but it was ground beef, and it had an undercooked taste. The chicken was okay.. Overall, if they get a better cook, this food will be good.

Lamb Shawarma. Order more pitas!!!!! Haha

As soon as I walked in, I was mesmerized by the refrigerator row of wine/champaign bottles. The bar area is well decorated with a dark background and small lights to emulate a dark starry night. Their service was not good in our L.A.-opinionated minds. Yes, we were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival. We waited maybe 20 minutes before someone eventually came to take our order. Mind you, the whole time we were ready to order, the waitress who seated us was walking back and forth, setting up tables around us. She clearly saw that we were ready to order but didn't even offer to take our orders or get another staff who could. This is a place to come to if you are NOT in a hurry and are here to simply chill and take life SLOCAL style. The food here seems like a fusion between American and Mediterranean style. 1. Octopus Appetizer (4.5/5) Large octopus tentacles served with a combination of vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, roasted peppers) toasted with garlic and olive oil. The vegetables and octopus were all cooked very well. The octopus was fresh and melts in your mouth. 2. Grilled Asparagus (2.5/5) Large asparagus that's seasoned lightly, but it was not cooked correctly. It had a very stringy-fibery texture. 3. Philly cheesesteak (2/5) The hoagie bread was grocery store quality at best. We were sad that it wasn't even toasted or warmed up, so ended up ditching the bread/bun and just ate the inside. The cheese was at least nicely melted. The onion and bell peppers were fresh, but the steak was "meh." Definitely not quality beef. The beef itself was also not seasoned enough, so was bland and dry. 4. Onion rings (5/5) Fried to perfection. Loved that the onions were fresh and it was easy to pull apart with each bite. The aioli sauce that its served with is plain and bland though. 5. Crab cake (4/5): Crabby patty anyone? All I tasted was fried Panko batter. Wish the patty itself had more flavor and spice. The garlic aioli sauce that came with it though was good. 6. Dr. Marquis Salad (4/5): Fresh spring mix lettuce topped with ground beef and crispy bacon, tomato, sliced avocado and tossed with their house-made olive oil, salt and pepper dressing. Overall, it was a hearty salad with plentiful flavor. It was just a bit weird to have ground beef in salad, but I guess that's what makes this salad dish unique

What can I say about this restaurant. Five star in my opinion…read more First time visiting this place and it was exquisite. We arrived on a Friday night and they were kind enough to find us a table without reservation (I would still recommend reserving for the weekend). Customer service A plus. Ambiance was so beautiful, we felt we entered another dimension with the patio seating. We ordered Falafel, Baba Ghannouj Chicken Kabobs and Pita Bread. For a cocktail I had a tequila based one called Standard. Everything was made to perfection and fresh. Timing between entrees was perfectly calculated. We were seated like in a private terrace which we loved.

However, the experience felt a bit underwhelming for such a very expensive price tag. The Food & Drinks: Pita Bread: A disappointment; it lacked the soft, hot moist texture you expect and honestly felt like it came out of a bag. Hummus: Just okay--nothing to write home about. Beef Shawarma: This was the highlight of the meal; it was actually good. Alcohol: Be warned--the markups are intense. They really gouge you on drink prices, so you might want to skip the cocktails. The Experience: The "cool factor" has dipped a bit since they stopped offering hookahs, and since there were no belly dancers during our visit (maybe we were just too early?), the entertainment was lacking. Also, keep in mind that you must be in a large group if you want to snag one of those coveted fire pit tables. The Verdict: Go for the views and the relaxed vibe, but manage your expectations on the value for the price.
