Their half n' half ($29 based on the market price) was the ideal way to sample two of their creations, a roll made with cold and warm lobster fillings: The chilled version, dubbed the local, was tossed with mayonnaise, celery, and chives. I found it was refreshing for a hot day and given the ingredients were less flavourful, the lobster's sweetness was more pronounce. Yet, there's something about the some fancy or warm version that was tastier. Who doesn't like garlic butter with lemon and chives thrown in for freshness? It was delicious, but a tad overcooked so the lobster was chewier than the cold version. If you're hungry, one roll will not be enough. Luckily, it comes with a quarter spear of pickle and bag of chips (they were out of coleslaw and potato salad by the early afternoon). Not necessarily filling, but enough to leave you satisfied. If you can hold off on diving into the roll, I recommend walking further down the harbourfront to find a table away from the main food area. While there was tables available in The Salt Yard, it's also a seagull pit. Finding a clean table can be difficult and you'll have to watch out for a wayward wing brushing close to your head. While visiting Halifax I stopped for a hot lobster roll. For $36/with tax, I received a sandwich and a back of chips. The sandwich appeared to be not as full but pricier than lobster rolls I've had in the US. Somewhat disappointing was the amount of claw meat (which tastes more clay like than the succulent tail meat.) Now my biggest complaint was the chips which were almost all brown color instead of the normal light tan color. It could be the brand of chips but these were not my favorite. Saw the review on YouTube and decided to give it a try. The store is right next to Cow's ice cream shop. There was no line when we got there. The guy greeted us politely and he seemed friendly. There are 4-5 seats provided in the front of the store. First you pick the style of lobster rolls you want and then pick the side which are chips, coleslaw, and potato salad. There are Local (cold lobster rolls), Fancy (warm lobster rolls, and Half-and-half. We got one of each. The market price on the day is $31 plus 15% tax. They accept credit card payments. We all agreed that the price was too high for the portion and not worth it. We had better lobster rolls in Portland, Maine. My lobster rolls had a lot of bones and for the cold one I feel like they put too much mayonnaise. Overall it tasted A-ok. read more

So I have to say when I ordered a large lobster roll at Daves and I got it, I was super disappointed. It was tiny. It was my first lobster roll and I felt ripped off. After three weeks of going to through the marintine provinices I realized that this was a general size of a lobster roll. And the flavour was good. And comparing it to other places, it had an amazing lobster meat ratio. so I would say this is a good experience. What was not a good experience was how long we had to wait for this lobster roll to come out. It took almost half an hour. And that is shoving already cooked meat into a bun. If you are that short of staff hire some. That is what prevented us for going back to this food truck. And that is why they lost a star. read more

One of the best lobster meals, let alone rolls you will ever have. With that being said, it took forever. I'm not sure anything is worth that wait. Your standing there like a seagull waiting for someone to drop a crumb, for what feels like hours. 2 of the three workers were hustling (beard). I don't think you can go wrong with any of the places in the area so don't feel obligated to wait here because of the name. Not worried about price because the quality of protein. read more

On the hunt to try as many different lobster rolls around Halifax area and this came up. This is a take out place so you would have to eat on picnic tables around. This was right at the Halifax harbour front, right next to cows. It was a good lobster rolls, different from other ones that we tried. This came with a bag of covered bridge brand chips. The covered bridge brand chips were good and very crunchy. Definitely worth a try for a good lobster roll. The lobster was very fresh and tasty. Seemed about the same size as you would get around the east coast. I'm a sucker for the food shacks on the waterfront. Who doesn't like being on the boardwalk, and having a tasty bite to eat while you take in the sun and the people watching? Dave's opened up last year, and I hadn't tried them yet, so I swung by while on a leisurely spring stroll. Being a lobster place, and that this is a heavily tourist-ed area, I shouldn't have been surprised at the price, but still, $17 for their regular lobster roll, chips and a pickle can give you pause. I waited a few minutes at a nearby table before my order was called out, and soon I was noshing on the classiest boardwalk grub Halifax has to offer (sorry, random hot dog vendor by Stayner's). The lobster was lightly dressed in mayo, with a mix of claws, knuckles and some more finely shredded meat. The chunks were ok, marginally overcooked, and the shredded meat was meh, as it was fairly watery, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was from frozen. The buttered and grilled roll was really good, lightly browned and crisp on each side. The pickle was fine, certainly not up to par with the local Naked Pickle brand (RIP), and the Covered Bridge sweet potato chips are always enjoyable. It was nice to try out, but unless you're a hardcore lobster fan, I'd suggest saving your money for a full meal at one of Halifax's many great restaurants. read more

I ordered the large 1/2 and 1/2 and was sorely disappointed with the amount of lobster and the actual size of the bun. I believe I measured it as equal to my iPhone. I loved visiting the waterfront today. What a great place! We came across this lobster shack so of course we had to have the lobster roll (since we're out east, and all). It was very tasty. For what it is, this place scores! A lobster shack on the Halifax waterfront! We had the garlic and butter rolls in the medium size and we were not disappointed. The lobster meat was plentiful and the taste was buttery/garlicky perfection. Served with a side of chips-a perfect lunch treat. Now, it was raining while we were hear so we sat on the table under the umbrella because the umbrella was not large enough to cover the chairs. Because of the bad weather, it was not crowded. They actually toast the bun which is a big plus. They have 2 different styles: 1. The local: light mayo and celery 2. The lobster taco was outstanding!! The "fancy" lobster roll was basically a hot lobster roll and the lobster was super fresh - just like on the taco - but the bread was soaked in the butter so badly that it was not really edible anymore. I was surprised to find Dave's lobster was just a stand, not a restaurant. This is the fourth lobster roll we had this week and it was one of the best but also the costliest. I drove a long-ass way for a lobster roll and these guys didn't disappoint. Toasted and buttered roll, packed with lobster meat, and not at all overly dressed. Good texture, flavour, all around solid. Market price means expect to pay when it's lobster off-season. read more

This was actually the second time I had ever had lobster and I'm told the place I first tried it from over cooks it so I have no clue what plain, good lobster should taste like. I'll give here a 3.5. I don't normally rate take-out places, but liked here enough to do so... I was hanging out on the waterfront on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon with a friend recently. She lives in Ontario and was dying to have a lobster roll when visiting Halifax, so we walked by here and gave it a shot. Due to the $21 price, we opted to just split one as a small snack and got the 'Some Fancy' (lobster warmed in a pan of butter, lemon & garlic, served on traditional split-tap roll, buttered and grilled, topped with fresh chives & lemon butter. YUM!! I could easily eat 3 of 4 whole ones. The bun was just done to perfection and the lobster as well. We were the only customers at the time and waited maybe 5 mins at a table for the staff member to yell out that it was ready. Really nothing else to comment on. Came as a combo with kettle chips and a big slice of dill pickle. I will definitely go back here and try a different roll sometime. read more

Very disappointing. I heard Nova Scotia Lobster was the best. I did not have Lobster in Maine this time, because I wanted to try the Nova Scotia lobster. I like my Lobster Rolls "Connecticut Style". That is where the Lobster is in large chunks, and it served warm with drawn butter on a roll with a wedge of lemon. There is no mayo or anything else involved! That way the Lobster is still the star and not the "salad" that is in the Maine and other style Lobster Rolls. Well, once you get out of Connecticut, they are hard to find. However, this stand had one called "Some Fancy". So, I was excited. My Dad and I both ordered one. Needless to say, it was VERY disappointing. The lobster was chopped up and minced, like they were serving it Maine style. It was also loaded with chives. I had fun picking those out. Because the lobster was cut up so fine, I could not really enjoy it and all I tasted really was the chives and garlic butter. I'm sure Nova Scotia has some great lobster places and lobster rolls, however this one is not one of them. The service also seemed slow and not overly friendly.
