    Store front (as of 8/31/2024)

Saw the review on YouTube and decided to give it a try. The store is right next to Cow's ice cream shop. There was no line when we got there. The guy greeted us politely and he seemed friendly. There are 4-5 seats provided in the front of the store. First you pick the style of lobster rolls you want and then pick the side which are chips, coleslaw, and potato salad. There are Local (cold lobster rolls), Fancy (warm lobster rolls, and Half-and-half. We got one of each. The market price on the day is $31 plus 15% tax. They accept credit card payments. We all agreed that the price was too high for the portion and not worth it. We had better lobster rolls in Portland, Maine. My lobster rolls had a lot of bones and for the cold one I feel like they put too much mayonnaise. Overall it tasted A-ok.

So I have to say when I ordered a large lobster roll at Daves and I got it, I was super disappointed. It was tiny. It was my first lobster roll and I felt ripped off. After three weeks of going to through the marintine provinices I realized that this was a general size of a lobster roll. And the flavour was good. And comparing it to other places, it had an amazing lobster meat ratio. so I would say this is a good experience. What was not a good experience was how long we had to wait for this lobster roll to come out. It took almost half an hour. And that is shoving already cooked meat into a bun. If you are that short of staff hire some. That is what prevented us for going back to this food truck. And that is why they lost a star.

As soon as our ship pulled into port I went on a lobster roll quest and loved the 1/2 hot and 1/2 cold lobster roll I ate at Dave's

On the hunt to try as many different lobster rolls around Halifax area and this came up. This is a take out place so you would have to eat on picnic tables around. This was right at the Halifax harbour front, right next to cows. It was a good lobster rolls, different from other ones that we tried. This came with a bag of covered bridge brand chips. The covered bridge brand chips were good and very crunchy. Definitely worth a try for a good lobster roll. The lobster was very fresh and tasty. Seemed about the same size as you would get around the east coast. We did get the larger size lobster roll, not sure how big this was compared to the regular size but overall it was very tasty.

I'm a sucker for the food shacks on the waterfront. Who doesn't like being on the boardwalk, and having a tasty bite to eat while you take in the sun and the people watching? Dave's opened up last year, and I hadn't tried them yet, so I swung by while on a leisurely spring stroll. Being a lobster place, and that this is a heavily tourist-ed area, I shouldn't have been surprised at the price, but still, $17 for their regular lobster roll, chips and a pickle can give you pause. I waited a few minutes at a nearby table before my order was called out, and soon I was noshing on the classiest boardwalk grub Halifax has to offer (sorry, random hot dog vendor by Stayner's). The lobster was lightly dressed in mayo, with a mix of claws, knuckles and some more finely shredded meat. The chunks were ok, marginally overcooked, and the shredded meat was meh, as it was fairly watery, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was from frozen. The buttered and grilled roll was really good, lightly browned and crisp on each side. The pickle was fine, certainly not up to par with the local Naked Pickle brand (RIP), and the Covered Bridge sweet potato chips are always enjoyable. It was nice to try out, but unless you're a hardcore lobster fan, I'd suggest saving your money for a full meal at one of Halifax's many great restaurants.

I loved visiting the waterfront today. What a great place! We came across this lobster shack so of course we had to have the lobster roll (since we're out east, and all). It was very tasty. Lots of lobster meat and mixings piled into a warm roll, then served with a bag of chips and a slice of pickle. Yummy. The only thing not yummy was the price. Jesus! $21 for this little sandwich. Oh well!

Good lobster roll along the water. It comes with a bag of chips- sweet potato, salt and vinegar, salt or bbq. You will have to wait for the food to be prepared. They actually toast the bun which is a big plus. They have 2 different styles: 1. The local: light mayo and celery 2. The fancy: butter, lemon and garlic If you can't decide, you can get half and half which is what I did.

Really excellent lobster roll down on the boardwalk in Halifax. Made fresh, tasty bread with big chunks of lobster claw. Great coleslaw too.

Hats off to the gluten free options, including calamari. Our waiter was excellent, knew his menu and gf possibilities. Never a bad choice but there are better ones in the area.

Skip the $45 lobster cocktail app. Yes, there sure is a deceptively generous half pound of lobster on that funny little plate, but it and any other seafood listed as part of this dish are drowned in a runny, very dill forward cream sauce. The chorizo shrimp pasta was fantastic. Pasta was al dente. Textures and flavors wonderfully layered. Delicious. The burger was fine. Fish and chips also fine, fries were fresh and hot. Great wine and cocktails list, languid but friendly service on a Thursday night in July. The interior space is all cement, metal and stone. Nothing offers acoustic relief from every tipsy guffaw, loud comment and the noise of the bartender shaking that martini, scooping the ice or collecting glasses. I wished I had brought my AirPods. If you're tired after a day of exploring and just want a decent meal in a place that's easy to find, go for it. We did see a couple wrestling with the $150 seafood tower. Two wide tiers placed too close together. It looked challenging. I know it was because we could hear them negotiating it from across the room.

First off, the atmosphere is lovely--refined but not stuffy--and the service was wonderful throughout. Our server was friendly and attentive, which really helped set the tone for the night. We originally wanted to try a couple of cocktails, but the prices were sky-high, so we stuck with beer instead. Thankfully, the beer selection was solid and went well with our meals. I ended up ordering the burger, mostly because the steaks were way out of our price range. That said, I was pleasantly surprised--the burger was excellent. Super juicy, with a delicious aioli and tomato jam that really elevated it. My wife had the vegetarian risotto, and while she enjoyed it once everything was mixed together, the base risotto itself was pretty bland. Not a bad dish, but definitely not worth what we paid for it. If we weren't on a budget, we might have been able to explore more of the menu--and maybe that would have changed our impression. But as it stands, this one's a 3 out of 5 for us. Nice place, but just too expensive for what we got.

We came by on a quiet weekday evening in the lead up to the holidays, and the menu was as diverse and creative as ever. The small plates were calling to us - and as always, they let us try as much as possible. The ricotta toast light and bright, with layers of seasonal savouriness. Tender slivers of poached pear, spiced walnuts, watermelon radish and arugula came together for a wonderful mix of tastes and textures, and a fig balsamic glaze brought further sweetness and richness. My wife and I have always been fans of dahl curries, and Black Sheep's presentation was next level, or even multiple levels, for what is normally not a particularly visually appealing dish. Seared halloumi was perched on top, surrounded by a colourful mix of papadam, raita, pickled fennel and red onion, and cilantro. The resulting composition was an enjoyable spin on this dish, while still sticking respectfully close to its roots. I first came across ćevapi/ćevapčići at a Bosnian grocery/restaurant in Ottawa, and loved the grilled, casing-less sausages, and how they paired with accoutrements like ajvar (a red pepper and eggplant sauce), red onions, and flatbread. When I saw it on a restaurant menu in Halifax, it was an automatic "yes"! The little pork sausages had a great char from the grill, and had a rustic grain to the meat, but were still quite tender and juicy. The extra bits complemented them well, with the vegetal freshness of the ajvar, some tartness from the tomatoes and pickled red onion, and a salty pop from the feta. Last but not least was an order of fries. Since they opened, Black Sheep's hand-fries have consistently been some of the best in the city, and their iconic squid ink mayo still makes for delish dipping - with a goth vibe. I hope Black Sheep is doing well in their new digs, because the food that they're making is still as destination-worthy as ever, and now they have the space to match it.
