Red sangria. Nice robust flavor you'd expect from it and refreshing.
    Kevin L.

Five fishermen was on couple different restaurant recommendation lists (eater Montreal being one of them) and being a seafood lover, I was excited to give them a try. I ordered their scallop ceviche at the recommendation of the bartender serving me and it was a-OK. And since those resto lists had Five fish experience as an entree rec, I ordered that, too: I was expecting to get relatively full for a $53 seafood dish but that wasn't the case as all the fishes on the plate were quite tiny in size. I added their sautéed maritime mushrooms and that was pretty delish. If it weren't for the mushrooms, I would have still been a bit hungry at the end of my meal. Service was pretty decent. Was expecting a bit more attentive service for my check being over $130 plus taxes and tips as a solo diner on this visit. Their red sangria was pretty nice and old fashioned was not bad. Sadly their chocolate dessert let me down - was just a bit better than what I'd get from a grocery store.

This is a review of the downstairs Little Fish Wine Bar, which for some reason doesnt come up on Yelp. My opening dish was called Burrata had a small cut half round. It was overwhelmed by the salad. You also miss the experience of cutting into the round and having the whey ooz out. Tasty, but falsely advertised. I'd rather pay more for a proper Burrata dish. The lobster thermador was ok, but I'd still prefer a regular steamed lobster dinner. The carrots, though apparently blanched, were very hard and I prefer a creamy coleslaw. I sent back the toffee cake dessert. The cake was cold, the toffee was cold and hard and insufficient in amount even if it were warm. Service was great.

Food was great. Good service and a nice ambiance. Lobster fish and scallop and shrimp all perfectly cooked. The scallops were the best. Very nice char. Another great spot on my quest to keep eating lobster. You know what they say. When in Nova Scotia...eat donairs!

The 5 Fisherman Restaurant, conveniently located on Argyle Street in downtown Halifax, is easily accessible on foot. The accommodating staff welcomed our large party of 12. Prompt service ensured timely delivery of drinks, appetizers, and main courses. The attentive staff consistently checked in on our table. The seafood, a highlight of the meal, was universally enjoyed. The seafood platter sampler was particularly impressive. The crispy mushrooms were delicious. However, the undercooked risotto was disappointing and not recommended as a main course for vegetarians. It locked the lemon fl labour and tasted like pea mush and undercooked rice. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. It was loud though and hard to hear everyone.

After hearing about the history of this restaurant and seeing it on multiple "must eat in Halifax" lists, we decided to visit on Halloween thinking that it would be spooky. It was a great restaurant and a great dinner, but if you're going for the spooky/historical aspect, it really isn't noticeable. The Five Fisherman has an upscale nautical theme, which is done in a classy and non-cheesy way. It fits perfectly with Halifax's Atlantic location and culture. Our waitress was really nice, and gave recommendations of things to do in the area. I got the filet with peppercorn sauce. The filet and sauce were both great overall, although the steak itself could've used a bit more seasoning. We also got some sort of chocolate peanut butter dessert, which was good if you like dark chocolate.

Their ambiance is the best with lovely interiors and attentive servers ready to take your requests or orders. We ordered: 1. lobster dinner - came with potatoes, biscuit slaw and butter to dip your lobster into 2. Lobster bisque - very flavorful but the portion is on the smaller side 3. Crab cakes - yummy 4. Tagliatelle - pasta with seafood - Not that flavorful but hits the spot

Madea reservation but there was seating available if you don't mind not being in the main dining room. Main dining room was quite warm and was uncomfortable for the first 10minutes while we adjusted. Ordered the strawberry daiquiri but it was just a can. They must have added a squeeze of lemon to the cup as the glass was super sour but if you drink from the can it was only sweet. Not a fan. Five fisherman experience we shared 2 orders between 3 people. Definitely designed to be 1 per person. Each of us could have easily eaten 1 order alone. Everything was cooked perfectly and 100% would recommend. Each of us liked everything on the plate. Cesar salad was good. Normal but good.

Excellent meal, great service! Highly recommend . Oysters were fresh and tasty, the 5 fish meal was delightful

This restaurant made my entire trip to NS. It was our 10 year anniversary and we desperately wanted seafood. Entering the establishment we could instantly tell we were in for a lavish experience. The handsome, great smelling server (having just got a new cologne) was so friendly and attentive. As we settled in with drinks, we had our first two apps, the scallop ceviche and local oysters, and they were incredible. Our server found out it was our anniversary and came over with champagne which was so thoughtful, we had our mains and we laughed and ate and the entire time we were so happy. At the end of our meal our server brought us a slice of chocolate heaven and lemon love and I instantly knew I'd come back here again. All the food was presented with craft, care and the most delicious ingredients. Thank you for making our evening an experience to remember.

We are in Halifax n came across five fishermen with great reviews n thought we'd have dinner. Great choice. In the heart of Halifax nice clean restaurant w friendly staff. We were four n tried diff appetizers - the seafood chowder, crab cakes, pumpkin soup n the warm tomato salad. The pumpkin soup was ok nothing to brag about but the seafood chowder, crab cakes n salad were great. For entrees we got the shrimp n sausage pasta, halibut, filet mignon n the five fish. The pasta was so delicious w generous amount of shrimp. The halibut was different but was v good. The five fish was great too and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Generous amounts of shrimp, scallops, half lobster meat n fish topped off with a white sauce. The filet was v juicy . We topped it off w lemon mousse, peanut butter/ chocolate bar n strawberry pastry . The deserts were good but a lil smaller n pricey. All in all it was a great meal.

Mixed emotions about that but it was a good spot for a quiet meal. We shared several appetizers and, as I said above, everything was good. The tuna tartare, maybe really good and the oysters as well. Skip the $45 lobster cocktail app. Yes, there sure is a deceptively generous half pound of lobster on that funny little plate, but it and any other seafood listed as part of this dish are drowned in a runny, very dill forward cream sauce. The chorizo shrimp pasta was fantastic. Pasta was al dente. Textures and flavors wonderfully layered. Delicious. The burger was fine. Fish and chips also fine, fries were fresh and hot. Great wine and cocktails list, languid but friendly service on a Thursday night in July. The interior space is all cement, metal and stone. Nothing offers acoustic relief from every tipsy guffaw, loud comment and the noise of the bartender shaking that martini, scooping the ice or collecting glasses. I wished I had brought my AirPods. If you're tired after a day of exploring and just want a decent meal in a place that's easy to find, go for it. We did see a couple wrestling with the $150 seafood tower. Two wide tiers placed too close together. It looked challenging. I know it was because we could hear them negotiating it from across the room.

Even though it was breakfast, I like that their menu offered some lunch options in case you're looking for something more heartier. The food is fresh, tasty and well-seasoned. I ordered the seafood chowder which was delicious and included tons of seafood. The breakfast options are plentiful, but whatever you do, be sure to try their blueberry lavender jam! It's so delicious and made fresh in-house with local blueberries. It was so good, that I wanted to buy a jar, but couldn't since I had a long flight afterwards and it needed refrigeration. I'd definitely recommend this spot to grab a bite and drinks and I hope they offer a shelf-stable blueberry lavender jam soon!

We came by on a quiet weekday evening in the lead up to the holidays, and the menu was as diverse and creative as ever. The small plates were calling to us - and as always, they let us try as much as possible. The ricotta toast light and bright, with layers of seasonal savouriness. Tender slivers of poached pear, spiced walnuts, watermelon radish and arugula came together for a wonderful mix of tastes and textures, and a fig balsamic glaze brought further sweetness and richness. My wife and I have always been fans of dahl curries, and Black Sheep's presentation was next level, or even multiple levels, for what is normally not a particularly visually appealing dish. Seared halloumi was perched on top, surrounded by a colourful mix of papadam, raita, pickled fennel and red onion, and cilantro. The resulting composition was an enjoyable spin on this dish, while still sticking respectfully close to its roots. I first came across ćevapi/ćevapčići at a Bosnian grocery/restaurant in Ottawa, and loved the grilled, casing-less sausages, and how they paired with accoutrements like ajvar (a red pepper and eggplant sauce), red onions, and flatbread. When I saw it on a restaurant menu in Halifax, it was an automatic "yes"! The little pork sausages had a great char from the grill, and had a rustic grain to the meat, but were still quite tender and juicy. The extra bits complemented them well, with the vegetal freshness of the ajvar, some tartness from the tomatoes and pickled red onion, and a salty pop from the feta. Last but not least was an order of fries. Since they opened, Black Sheep's hand-fries have consistently been some of the best in the city, and their iconic squid ink mayo still makes for delish dipping - with a goth vibe. I hope Black Sheep is doing well in their new digs, because the food that they're making is still as destination-worthy as ever, and now they have the space to match it.

Yet, there's something about the some fancy or warm version that was tastier. Who doesn't like garlic butter with lemon and chives thrown in for freshness? It was delicious, but a tad overcooked so the lobster was chewier than the cold version. If you're hungry, one roll will not be enough. Luckily, it comes with a quarter spear of pickle and bag of chips (they were out of coleslaw and potato salad by the early afternoon). Not necessarily filling, but enough to leave you satisfied. If you can hold off on diving into the roll, I recommend walking further down the harbourfront to find a table away from the main food area.
