The food is so good!! Wow! The restaurant is clean and nice. The service was kind and attentive. If you want a drink from the bar, allow at least 20 minutes for each. SOOOOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOWWWWW!! They need an Efficiency Expert for the bartender. Even an Efficiency Idiot could make huge improvements for the bar here. My goodness. Did I mention it was SLOOOOOOOWWWW??? Again, the food is top shelf. Get the butter naan. My wife found the Shrimp Tiki Masala a bit too spicy, but she was warned. The Mango Malai Chicken was just perfect. Wow!! You should go here. Just give yourselves several hours if you order more than one drink.

On April 21st, 2023 the OCC Nova Scotia reviewed Besharam Bar & Grill as part of our hunt for the CHOTY (Curry House Of The Year) and in search of the 8th OCC approved curry house in Canada. Members vote anonymously on 5 categories from 1-10 with 10 being outstanding - and an average score is given to each restaurant we review. Besharam Bar & Grill: Quality - 7.875 Service - 8.375 Value - 7 Customer Care - 8.625 Atmosphere - 7.75 With an average score of 7.9, Besharam Bar & Grill is OCC approved! After ascending the stairs to reach the dining room, our appetites were built and we were greeted by the friendly waitstaff and promptly shown to our table. The restaurant had a cool atmosphere with live cricket showing on the TVs, and the Kingfishers were flowing. The owner made a point to come over and explain the history behind Besharam Bar & Grill. He explained that Besharam is an Urdu word meaning "shameless or unashamed", which is what the chefs aim to be while creating their seasonally changing menu, which features some very unique items. We ordered the Gongura Curry and Chicken Sixty-Nine as they came as chef recommended dishes, and they did not disappoint. We also had a variety of naans, including a chilli garlic naan which was a highlight. The speed and quality of service certainly matched and even exceeded our expectations. There were no glasses left empty, and the waitresses were very attentive and polite. We started out with a round of poppadoms and a version of tandoori chicken named "Sharabi Tandoori Chicken" - the way the owner described it was a chicken named Kokila got drunk and caught on fire. Much to our surprise, the waitstaff actually lit the chicken on fire after being set on the table. It was quite the experience and a great presentation! The portions were average size, and we split 8 curries between 9 people, along with 3 appetizers. Everything came out piping hot. Had we not gotten appetizers, we would have likely needed a few more curries. The cuisine was very well done - we ordered 3 types of naan (plain, garlic, and chilli garlic) to sample a variety of breads. The breads were delicious - crispy on the bottom, but extremely light and fluffy at the same time. We think the dough may have been fermented. They tasted very fresh. We also ordered the butter chicken which had a very nice kick to it, the chana madras which had a really deep & developed flavour to it, and the paneer tikka masala. The waitstaff were eager, enthusiastic, very friendly, made great recommendations, and ensured we were well taken care of. We appreciated the backstory given by the owner, and were impressed with the thoughtfulness put into the overall concept. In summary, we are pleased to officially OCC approve Besharam Bar & Grill. We had a most delightful dining experience and would certainly recommend it to anyone in the mood for exceptional customer service and an authentic Indian curry. - OCC Date of visit: April 2023

    The Narrows - Narrows house

I can't believe The Narrows Public House isn't here in Yelp, and I may regret adding it. This place…read moreis a special dining experience. Even though we knew about where it was, we walked right past the beautiful two-story historic house initially. We knew by taking a look at the website they do not accept reservations, which was fine with us. We were, however, going on a Friday night. On walking into the main entry, that space was packed wall-to-wall. Within a few short minutes, one of the staff greeted us. They don't exactly have a formal wait list here, from what I could tell. The staff member offered us the drinks menu and asked if we'd like to order something while we waited on a table. We ordered up a couple of pints, then looked around for some open space to stand. They have two standing bar rails, one in the main area near the bar itself and another one in the middle dining area. This place has about the most creative layout of booths and tables I've ever seen. They do have an outdoor patio out back, but we didn't take a look at that. They have quite a few very comfy two-person booths around the interior. It appeared the way the wait list worked was that they either have a phenomenal memory, or they actually use the bar tab you open to work like a wait list. It seems to really be more about how many you have in your party, and the exact size of any tables/booths that open up. We might have waited about 30 minutes or so for our table for two up in the front of the main dining room. Every single person on the wait staff here is amazing. Let me just get that out of the way. The beer list is great, loaded up with so many good local and Nova Scotia craft beer options. The food menu is what really makes this place special, though. We were on vacation, so we may have a tendency for our eyes to be bigger than our stomachs can handle. There was just so many amazing looking dishes. We started out with a pickle jar, fried taters, and the tomatoes appetizers. I have to say, and my wife agrees, the tomatoes dish was the best of everything we had. Its made up of sliced cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, shallots, capers, and garlic chips. All that is sitting on top of creme fraiche. By the time you're finishing the dish, you start thinking about a straw to finish up that creme fraiche. Good grief, that was so good. Don't pass on the fried taters, though. Those seemed to be mashed potatoes formed into rectangular big fries, cooked almost like panko and served with horseradish sour cream. After all that, we could only muster splitting the deli style chop salad with cold water shrimp on it. Our great waitress talked us into an order of the brown bread, a very soft kind of Irish soda bread I believe. That bread just melts in your mouth. If you decide to venture out to The Narrows, you're in for a total experience. You'll feel like you stepped back in time to a real British pub... the house must be from somewhere around the mid 1800s. Every room is warm and cozy, with beautiful woodwork and curious antiques in all sorts of nooks and crannies. You may have quite a long wait depending on the size of your party and how busy the place is, but trust me... its worth every minute.

Rasa means essence or taste in Hindi - something which the OCC was fully exposed to during our meet. Greeted by the Manager upon arrival, we were swiftly shown to our table and a cold round of Kingfishers arrived promptly hereafter. Taking advise from the waiter on menu recommendations, we had a wide variety of dished, breads and sides - all elevating the overall dining experience. Rasa; Flavours Of India states on their website that they have "an obsession with perfecting the details. From the number of ice cubes in your drink to the spiciness of each dish, your complete satisfaction is our top priority." A statement we can confirm to be bang on point. The dining experience was elevated and highlighted by the attention to detail, whether being the authentic decor, the well trained and top professional staff or the bowls in which the dishes where served - Top Mark! The cuisine did not disappoint either - everything from the creamy and perfectly spiced Butter Chicken, the homemade Naan Bread to the crispy poppadum's had fully seen the Chefs obsession with perfection and attention to detail. The dining was capped off with a traditional Masala Chai Tea - another great recommendation from the waitstaff. Waitstaff was eager, enthusiastic, very friendly, made great recommendations, and ensured the cold Kingfisher kept flowing with plenty. In summary, we are pleased to officially OCC approve Rase: Flavours Of India.
