Is it a dive bar? I wouldn't say that because it's not sticky enough. The Hubs customarily has the munchies once alcohol was involved. This place is perfect for us as it is $6 for all good items. Drinks are where they earn back the money. Generally $5 per 1oz of alcohol. The menu have quite a few funny puns which find it interesting to read (e.g., Rap City is actually all the wraps in the menu). This place definitely runs the same business model as The Warehouse restaurant group that's prevalent in BC (now established in Alberta, Quebec, and Ontario as well). It was Sunday 5:30pm when we were there. Only us and then 2 other patrons that came in right after us. Customer service: super easy servers and staff. Water is served right away. We ordered a fireball shot ($4) and served right away as well. Kitchen service: we ordered the Bacon Soda and the Going Bad on Em Anyways ($6 each). They arrived about 10mins of ordering. Going Bad on Em Anyways: beef and cheese in a tortilla seared (quesadilla) with tortilla chips, salsa and sour cream. Not bad on the beef portion. A bit smaller than Warehouse portions. Bacon Soda: well dressed burger. Bacon is nice and big and crispy. The fries are well prepped and good. Again, a tad smaller than Warehouse portions, but hey, not too bad. Overall: servers are attentive, food is decent, atmosphere is chill pub, cheap food for downtown. Compared to a $6+ meal at McDonald's, we'll come back here any day.

Really fun stop around a bunch of more rowdy bars. It was a Thursday night and many people were out for Halloween but this bar was quieter so we walked in. Had a draught beer, a Red Bull vodka and a tequila mixed drink. All were really good! servers were nice and attentive. Cute and decorated for Halloween. Music was playing music video on the tv with each song, from Miley to BSB to Avril Lavigne. Snoop too! Fun!

We stopped here for drinks and dessert. Fun music, clean table, accurate drinks, good lava cake and ice cream, pleasant waitstaff. We enjoyed our visit.

Nice lively place aimed for college students.. everything is for $5 ... you might have to order 2 things as the serving is small.. but still bang on the money value... overall place was nice and will like to visit them again. Ordered the jerk chicken taco and butter chicken with rice. Both were decent.

Knowledgeable staff and great pricing on food. Good place to go to before a Mooseheads game.

Great food, even better drinks. The atmosphere here was awesome. Easily the coolest bar I've been to on the east coast.

If anyone is thinking of paying them a fee to hold onto your coats my only advice to you is avoid…read moreit at all costs if possible and save yourself the money otherwise risk losing your coat and receiving intimidation tactics from the bouncers and security. I have been here a few times and I had decided one time to use the coat hanging services. I paid the fees, took a number and They put that same number on my coat so they know what belongs to who, simple right? I guess not because at the end of the night when I'm ready to head home I go to pick up my coat and they tell me they accidentally gave it to someone else, the coat that had an identification number and yet THEY GAVE IT TO THE WRONG PERSON. The coat wasn't cheap either and yet even though the coat girl admitted that it's completely on her for giving it to the wrong person I was offered NOTHING, zero compensation and zero real accountability. Instead the security in their infinite kindness opted to sweep the situation under the rug despite my distress and tell me there's nothing they can do now about it so i should leave. So Im now writing this review one coat short of what i used to have, hoping people will see this review and learn from my experience.

Many changes over the years have taken place from having a bouncer to having someone almost frisk you. I know times have changed but I know other locations do not do that. The Dance floor is WAY to small, tyring to dance on that floor is dam near impossible. On a Saturday night it is standing room only. Normally when I am at the Dome I stay within the walls of Cheers and do not venture out in to the kinder-garden bars where they are supposed to be 19 yeah ok. Dome does have some great bands to enjoy and it is always excitement when you do down.

Charlie's is a pretty chill place to go hang out and have a few beers…read more The crowd can be a little rough around the edges but I guess the university throngs have pretty much pushed the average drinking man out of every other bar in Halifax. Pool tables are a nice addition... I wasn't really sure what the $2 cover was going towards besides upkeep? A grungy/funky spot in the North End that's for sure!

This is not a tourist bar, unless you are a linoleum architecture tourist, or a $2.75 tequila shot…read moretourist, or a tourist of watching tight knit groups of locals sit around in circular formation. Charlie's is where you go when you want to go to Cheers. (Not the Cheers on Grafton St., the Cheers on TV according to your 6 y/o mind, which is really just the the theme song, fuzzy visuals, and conflating real life people with Cliff and/or Rhea Pearlman.) In short, it's where you go when you come home nostalgic and want to see all your old friends, enthusiastically buy each other drinks like it's a genuine gift, dance to one of those weird new electric blue jukeboxes, shout and pontificate around a pool table, and generally have a back slappin, squeezey hugging, chortling little time. The decor is like any affordable house, only the door has a key code and a woman sits at a table with a guest book when you come in. This does not make you feel cool, but it does make you feel like life is funny. The bartender is so used to over-friendly drunk patrons that nothing can melt him. I imagine that deep in his core is something more kind than anything I have ever known, but it is too precious to be shared. The last time I came here, someone apologized for asking me to dance when I turned him down. Apologized. For my rejecting him. A dark little mineshaft to the salt of the earth this place is, lemme tell ya.
