I really recommend the lobster club $23 . We tried the lobster mushroom $16, reminded me a lot of "garlic escargot" it was pretty good. I got the pan haddock $21, I would not recommend this one. Fish and chip looked a lot better. This place is known by locals for the lobster club and that did not disappoint. read more

Stopped in Hackett's Cove for lunch. Snagged one of the few tables outside. Beautiful scenery outside. Our server was professional, quick, and friendly...and busy. This place filled up. I peeked inside and what I loved was there was local art for sale which gave the restaurant a really cutesy feel. Decent menu with a good selection...but we were here for seafood. And apparently they are famous for their lobster club. so little kiddo got a mini lasagna, we ordered the spicy garlic shrimp and the calamari for starters and we all had lobster clubs. The starters were really fresh. Shrimp was slightly overcooked but really flavourful. The Lobster club was AMAZING. Fresh. Great combo of rich lobster, crispy bacon, fresh veggies. Cute and friendly diner in Hackett's Cove, a short drive from Peggy's Cove. Very friendly staff. This diner is in the middle of coast-side rural Halifax, so you have to manage your expectations accordingly. The staff was mostly young kids for the summer - but they were all respectful and were trying hard. We were seated outside on the deck around sunset, and were a group of nine. So off the bat, we were very appreciative of them accommodating around group in a wonderful setting. Food was solid. Nothing overly spectacular. - Fish and Chip was excellent. We had three orders overall and it was crispy, crunchy, but not overly greasy. Tatar sauce was fine, but not amongst the best we have had on the trip. - My son enjoyed the burger. - I had the lobster roll and it was really good. Two people had the lobster club and said it was fantastic. - only draw back was that anything with mussels was very salty. My husband and I ate here twice during our stay nearby. We loved it! On our first visit, we walked in at 8:15pm- the place closes at 8:30. They happily invited us to sit down. I ordered the lobster roll special and husband ordered the fish and chips. We weren't terribly impressed with the food- my lobster roll had waaay too much mayo in it- but the service was great. We asked our waitress where we might buy some booze at the time of night (so we wanted some whiskey to sip on back at our seaside cottage. Wanna fight?). She suggested the grocer store Sobey's which was another 15 minutes down the road. She actually called them to see if they were still open and then wrote down directions for us. So nice. We came back on my birthday for dinner (earlier this time). I splurged and ordered the seafood platter (fried scallops, coconut shrimp and battered fish with fries) with a side salad and husband ordered the mac & cheese special which came with a small caesar salad. His mac & cheese was ok, but my dinner was great!! The piece of fish was tender and moist underneath the batter and the coconut shrimp. Oh, the coconut shrimp. The waitress said the appetizer was served with a Thai chili dipping sauce and asked if I wanted some. Yes, please! Sooooo good. Then I dipped the fried in. NOM. Since it was my birthday, I ordered birthday pie! Coconut Cream Pie. Husband had the waitress put a candle in it (actually, she found two) and he sang me happy birthday. Very sweet. And the pie was yummy! We sat outside on the porch on our second visit and it was delightful. Sun setting and a nice breeze. A really nice place for a meal if you're in the area. read more

The Finer Diner was opened a couple of years ago by two locals - a young husband and wife team. He's a carpenter and did an awesome job fixing up the place, which, by the way has a great terrace for summer dining that overlooks one of the smaller coves around Peggy's Cove. The view alone is worth the trip. She's an artist too, so between them the decor is wonderful...artsy, yet homey. They wanted a place for locals really, since most of the year you have to go somewhere else for a good meal...a place where everyone could congregate and catch up with the latest news about their neighbors...like it is at a community dinner at the local church. The food is perfect diner food - club sandwiches, roast beef dip and my favorite...liver and onions with awesome mashed potatoes. The desserts by the way are made by another local and each and every one is fantastic. read more

Was looking for a place to eat after Peggy's Cove and stumbled upon this restaurant Pros -The atmosphere is very nice. The restaurant is built and looks like a house and has interior and exterior dining options. We chose exterior. -Food tastes pretty good, but nothing spectacular. -Amazing desserts Cons -The portions you get for the price are very little. You can see in the pics the lobster roll doesn't have much lobster and the side is quite small as well. For $20 it's not a lot of food. -Service was slow -Overpriced Overall, I'd say this restaurant is pretty good, but there are better alternatives in the area. read more

This small cafe has been in existence for more than 10 years. The reason is obvious upon our first visit. Attentive staff, multiple seafood selections, and quality presentation. My spouse had her first lobster roll and is now talking about moving here. I tried a self-designed combo of spicy shrimp, lobster chowder, and falafel. If you're hungry after scrambling over the rocks at Peggy's Cove, I recommend skipping the diner there and driving down the road a few minutes to the Finer Diner. I had my first visit there this weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the service and the food. They have a solid menu with a lot of seafood offerings so I opted for the crunchy salmon sandwich and it was delicious. The generous portion of fish was coated in a spicy, crispy breading and came with fries (which were fine, but nothing special). It was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. We were too stuffed to order desert, but I did see some delicious looking pies on their way to other tables. Next time I'll know to save room! read more

Oh yummy!!! If you're visiting this part of Canada, you can't leave without a lobster roll. Everything at The Finer Diner was so fresh. Even the french fries somehow tasted fresh! The service here was fantastic. Our server was so sweet and accommodating. The diner was pretty no frills as far as decor and atmosphere, but the food wholly made up for it. I also tried the lobster club sandwich and the seafood chowder which were also both as delicious as the lobster roll. My only wish was that I had more time in Halifax and could've come back to The Finer Diner for more! read more

This place is open year round (except Christmas Day). We stopped here for lunch after visiting the lighthouse, and it was great! The place is clean, service is efficient and friendly, and the food is very good. I ordered the fish cakes dinner that came with a nice-sized green salad, a side of baked beans, and something new to me called green tomato chow. This green tomato sauce was delicious on the fish cakes! DH ordered the lunch special, sweet and sour chicken sandwich that also came with a side Caesar salad. Our meals were $14 and $12. The dessert choices were so wonderful that we had to indulge! Rubarb custard pie and our other choice blueberry apple crisp with vanilla ice cream! My ongoing questt for decent chowder took me to the Finer Diner, a neat little place near Peggy's Cove. The gravel parking lot was quite full, at about 1pm when we arrived. When we left at about 3, it was empty! The lunch rush must be significant here. The chowder here was creamy without being pasty, and white fish, lobster, and perhaps some other small bits were all present. Quite enjoyable, with soft potato chuncks, and potato particles in the sauce. The best ppart of the dish was the roll that came with it! I am pretty sure it was home made, dense and soft without being sticky. So lovely! read more

The Finer Diner is, well, a diner. In decor and food it certainly is finer than most diners, but that doesn't say much. When in the Peggy's Cove and Hackett's Cove area, the Finer Diner is one of very few dining-out options. It is on-par with the other restaurants in the area. While the service is quite friendly, the food is mid-grade...not bad, not great. It is very good to see that they have some vegetarian and wheat-free options for meals, though the dessert menu is lacking in a wheat-free option. The fried fish and the vegetarian lasagna were both passable, but not as good as one could make at home. Still, the place was a godsend in a "tourist" area that is distinctly short on dining options. Be aware travellers! The Finer Diner, like many restaurants in the area, hasn't clued in that staying open later than 8pm might benefit both them and weary tourists. Get your dining-out done early in these parts! read more

Chowder was best we've had in Nova Scotia so far The haddock was a small portion... But if u get the fish and chips u get way more meat for less $$. The lobster club sandwich was good. The Finer Diner is situated in a beautiful location, but both times I've been there, I left disappointed. The food is overpriced and mediocre. My friend and I went there tonight, and were absolutely bewildered when they brought us our food. I ordered the fish and chips, which was decent (though they skimped on the fries AND the fries were soggy). She ordered the halibut dinner, but when it came, there was barely any food on her plate: a tiny piece of fish, a few very thinly sliced portions of carrots and zucchini, and very little rice for $16. While our server was receptive to our complaint, nothing was done about it (because we had already paid, apparently nothing could be done). No one came to check on us during our meal either. Very disappointed. Won't return. read more

The chowder was amazing. So sad I only ordered a cup. but I had to make sure I had room for the fish and chips -- which were also good, by the way. The batter was light and crisp and the fish was well cooked -- always a plus! My partner ordered a full breakfast and blueberry pancakes and was well impressed. The carrot cake was delicious! My only beef was the creamcheese icing - it's my preference to have carrot cake sans cream cheese icing because it's.. well.. it's cheese and sugar! *shudder* However, I realize this is a subjective preference so I wouldn't remove marks for that.
