    Lobster Club

This is a roadside diner type restaurant with indoor and patio seating. The dishes we had were liked by everyone. Portions were generous and the food was fresh. The batter on the haddock was light and crispy. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Stopped in Hackett's Cove for lunch. Snagged one of the few tables outside. Beautiful scenery outside. Our server was professional, quick, and friendly...and busy. This place filled up. I peeked inside and what I loved was there was local art for sale which gave the restaurant a really cutesy feel. Decent menu with a good selection...but we were here for seafood. And apparently they are famous for their lobster club. so little kiddo got a mini lasagna, we ordered the spicy garlic shrimp and the calamari for starters and we all had lobster clubs. The starters were really fresh. Shrimp was slightly overcooked but really flavourful. The Lobster club was AMAZING. Fresh. Great combo of rich lobster, crispy bacon, fresh veggies. Loved my cup of chowder. Little one gobbled up her mini lasagna. Would recommend here for sure!

View from the deck - party of 9. Thank you for the hospitality.

Cute and friendly diner in Hackett's Cove, a short drive from Peggy's Cove. Very friendly staff. This diner is in the middle of coast-side rural Halifax, so you have to manage your expectations accordingly. The staff was mostly young kids for the summer - but they were all respectful and were trying hard. We were seated outside on the deck around sunset, and were a group of nine. So off the bat, we were very appreciative of them accommodating around group in a wonderful setting. Food was solid. Nothing overly spectacular. - Fish and Chip was excellent. We had three orders overall and it was crispy, crunchy, but not overly greasy. Tatar sauce was fine, but not amongst the best we have had on the trip. - My son enjoyed the burger. - I had the lobster roll and it was really good. Two people had the lobster club and said it was fantastic. - only draw back was that anything with mussels was very salty. That both the mussels dish itself and the seafood pasta. - chowder was just ok. Great spot. Friendly staff and good people.

Best sweet potato fries I've had in a long time. The lobster roll was equally delicious. The place is a Mom and Pop restaurant. The staff was friendly and nice.

    Nice inlet right outside restaurant.

Stopped in for lunch while driving the coast. Had the lobster roll with coleslaw and poutine...excellent! Friendly staff and beautiful cove to look at while eating.

    Lobster roll and onion rings!

It's nothing fancy, but the food was excellent! Great lobster rolls and even a lobster club! Some even had the fish cakes and deep fried clams. We all loved our meal and the wait staff were very efficient!

My husband and I ate here twice during our stay nearby. We loved it! On our first visit, we walked in at 8:15pm- the place closes at 8:30. They happily invited us to sit down. I ordered the lobster roll special and husband ordered the fish and chips. We weren't terribly impressed with the food- my lobster roll had waaay too much mayo in it- but the service was great. We asked our waitress where we might buy some booze at the time of night (so we wanted some whiskey to sip on back at our seaside cottage. Wanna fight?). She suggested the grocer store Sobey's which was another 15 minutes down the road. She actually called them to see if they were still open and then wrote down directions for us. So nice. We came back on my birthday for dinner (earlier this time). I splurged and ordered the seafood platter (fried scallops, coconut shrimp and battered fish with fries) with a side salad and husband ordered the mac & cheese special which came with a small caesar salad. His mac & cheese was ok, but my dinner was great!! The piece of fish was tender and moist underneath the batter and the coconut shrimp. Oh, the coconut shrimp. The waitress said the appetizer was served with a Thai chili dipping sauce and asked if I wanted some. Yes, please! Sooooo good. Then I dipped the fried in. NOM. Since it was my birthday, I ordered birthday pie! Coconut Cream Pie. Husband had the waitress put a candle in it (actually, she found two) and he sang me happy birthday. Very sweet. And the pie was yummy! We sat outside on the porch on our second visit and it was delightful. Sun setting and a nice breeze. A really nice place for a meal if you're in the area.

The Finer Diner was opened a couple of years ago by two locals - a young husband and wife team. He's a carpenter and did an awesome job fixing up the place, which, by the way has a great terrace for summer dining that overlooks one of the smaller coves around Peggy's Cove. The view alone is worth the trip. She's an artist too, so between them the decor is wonderful...artsy, yet homey. They wanted a place for locals really, since most of the year you have to go somewhere else for a good meal...a place where everyone could congregate and catch up with the latest news about their neighbors...like it is at a community dinner at the local church. The food is perfect diner food - club sandwiches, roast beef dip and my favorite...liver and onions with awesome mashed potatoes. The desserts by the way are made by another local and each and every one is fantastic.

We had a large group of 7, and for the size of the restaurant is thought it was going to be difficult to get a table because it was lunch time. However, I was surprised; we were sat immediately :)! Our drink and food orders were taken promptly. The entire duration of our meal we always had attentive service by our waitress. At the end the price point was good and the food excellent for other adults and kids! - We'll be back! -Oh yeah.... Music ambience was the "Oldies but Goodies"! Heard great music from Johnny Cash, Bill Haley, and Beach Boys to name a few. Made for a relaxing experience!

Was looking for a place to eat after Peggy's Cove and stumbled upon this restaurant Pros -The atmosphere is very nice. The restaurant is built and looks like a house and has interior and exterior dining options. We chose exterior. -Food tastes pretty good, but nothing spectacular. -Amazing desserts Cons -The portions you get for the price are very little. You can see in the pics the lobster roll doesn't have much lobster and the side is quite small as well. For $20 it's not a lot of food. -Service was slow -Overpriced Overall, I'd say this restaurant is pretty good, but there are better alternatives in the area.

For our lunch spot, we chose Tom's Lobster Shack, based upon reviews we had read. Man oh man! What a find! Don't let the 31$ price for one lobster roll stop you from making the leap. If you don't, believe me you will cheat yourself from enjoying one of the most decadent treatments of locally caught fresh lobster ever. Think about the movie "What About Bob" in the scene where Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss) finds himself hosting one of his patients, Bob (Bill Murray) who has invited himself for dinner: The oohs, ahhs, yummy, this is soooo good, Gnom Gnom Gnom, litany uttered by Bob as he devours his food with appreciation and gusto is kind of what escaped my lips as I savored the best lobster roll ever ... even superior to those served in Maine. Score another point for Canada. It was so tasty, I thought I heard a strain of the refrain from "Oh Canada" in the background. The only downside was that it was unseasonably hot and there were not enough shaded tables to accommodate everyone, but Tom doesn't control the weather. This is definitely worth the drive if you find yourself in Halifax (only 1 hour). And there's free parking,

We like to try new foods and we don't always like them, but the adventure is in exploring new food cultures. The food here was really good! Some folks that tried the Rappie pie or bites weren't enthused about them but glad they tried. It's one of those acquired tastes I assume. I had the meat pie and really enjoyed it. Those that had fish and chips said they were really good.

What is Acadian food? Well, for us it was fish cakes, meat pie, and rappie bites. Most of the menu…read morewas Acadian, as identified by a French flag next to the item. If those don't appeal , there are a small number of standards like fish&chips, lobster roll, and poutine. My l'Acadie Fishcakes were made from salt fish (cod?) from Nova Scotia, expertly pan-fried. The portion was reasonable - though they were so good I could have eaten a third. They were served without a sauce (not needed), accompanied by house-made baked beans and marinated carrots. The sides were no afterthought either; the red beans were baked (not overbaked) in a flavorful sauce, and the carrots, thinly sliced, were sweet and tangy. The wife got the l'Acadie Meat Pie: a 1/4 portion of a round pie. The filling was the shredded meat, a blend of chicken, beef, and pork (!), seasoned with garlic and spices. This was inside what was described as a biscuit crust. Overall this was very good, not heavy like a meat pie can be, and not dry - but if you find it so there is the au jus gravy on the side. We didn't find it necessary. This pie was served with an excellent Caesar Salad. We split an order of Rappie Bites, which is a way to experience rappie pie in appetizer form. A filling made from grated potatoes and ground chicken, formed into golf-sized balls and deep fried. Interesting. I was expecting a firmer texture like a hush puppy which they resembled but the filling in these were soft and contained by the slightly crispy crust (of bread crumbs?) Unlike the bites which are always available, the pie is a specialty, available only on Sunday, and advance reservations are recommended to guarantee you can get it. I haven't had it in pie form and would maybe try it, but the meat pie was so good I might end up getting that again instead. I had a local cider to drink. Several local craft beers were available as well as wine. I don't remember if liquor was available. There were several desserts but we didn't try them. The only one specifically identified as Acadian was the Pouding Chômeur, described as a dumpling-like cake batter which caramelizes when baked, in a homemade maple sauce. Also ginger molasses cake, maple bread pudding, apple crisp, and strawberry shortcake - with the biscuits made in-house. As I am writing this they all sound so good I wish we had tried one - or more!
