We stopped in here for an early dinner after leaving sensea spa - checked out the menu online and they have your classic diner options so it looked great. The diner itself is what you'd expect - plenty of seats and a patio. The prices were decent and the service was quick and friendly. The food however, was a different story. The coleslaw looked like cabbage floating in water. I asked the server if I could get another side of coleslaw that wasn't so watery, she brought me out a new cup but it was exactly the same. I got the haddock tips and fries; the fries were meh, not great but not horrible - the fish was decent. I also had a side of gravy (beef) and it was alright! One friend ordered a poutine, that was made with shredded cheese and not cheese curds. I'd be hard pressed to return again next time I'm in Chester. read more

Waited over an hour for food. Hot turkey sandwich would have been pretty good if they would have put gravy on the turkey and not just on the top bread. And it was bottled beef gravy on a turkey sandwich. SMH. The fries we only ok. There was a lot of food. Music was fitting for the diner. Hopefully they can get their act together read more

It's obvious this place has new ownership since the pandemic began because it's become quite dumpy and run down. The patio needs some major cleaning up and updating and the inside needs a deep clean. Staff here is incredibly friendly and there is a bit of a wait for food, despite not being busy, so it's definitely fresh and piping hot when it comes out. Food portion is decent and we'd say it's just ok. Fish is nice and buttery but it is quite greasy. The chowder was an interesting super oily broth that lacked flavour. Mostly full of potatoes, couldn't find too much fish but a good sized portion. It definitely needs more cream because it's thin as chicken stock. Prices are better than most places but this place doesn't seem to be what it once was. Overall, an alright place to stop if nothing else is open but I'd try something else next time. read more

The building isn't much to look at from the outside, but if you're looking for fish & chips worthy of being served in Nova Scotia, this is the place. Outside you have lots of parking, and a deck with picnic tables for when the weather's nice. Inside is classic diner decor. Pictures of vintage Hollywood icons, lots of chrome, a counter with homemade baked goods on display, and friendly staff. The fish is moist with a crispy coating. The fries are hand cut, the tartar sauce is house made. We camp in the area every summer (Grave's Island) and make a point of visiting The Stretch. read more

Fantastic fish and chips, but the star for me was their turkey sandwich. Huge and fresh, it was well worth the price. Not discrediting the fish by any means, as my brother ordered the 2 piece and received some fantastic haddock, clearly bought fresh. Been camping in Graves Island for a long time and finally tried this restaurant . Was hoping this was one of those rare place where the food is amazing and what a total disappointment. Food was terrible. My wife tried the scallops, what did she get for 18.00, six scallops served on french fries. Scallops had no spices, they were the most tasteless scallops she ever had and the so called "home fries" were nothing to talk about either. For me, I had a Club sandwich , pretty hard to screw this up but they almost did, I certainly had better club in my life. Anyway, first and last time we will ever go there. There was this horrible phase that coincided with my high school years where people with bad taste and too much money were making fake diners in their McMansions. That's what the decor here feels like, it's all brand new and doesn't feel like a diner at all. The food is legit, though. They are not messing around. The fish and chips is exactly how it should be. Looks very unassuming from the outside but the relatively small interior has a very charming, 50's, retro style complete with chrome and steel. I had fish and chips and it was one of the best I ever had. The portion was more than adequate and the price was reasonable. If I had to say something negative, I would say that the size of the haddock filet filled me up so that I had to pass on a piece of homemade pie that made your mouth water just looking at it. I've been here a couple of times with my in-laws (who love it), and it's the very essence of a great small-town diner. It's definitely worth pulling off the south shore highway for. Small inside, with '50s/'60s-themed US diner decor, especially toy cars. It's not a big menu, but there are a couple of items that you just can't go past: the fish and chips (some of the best I've had in the province) and the pies (coconut cream or pecan). Get them in you now. You can get the pies to go if you're too full of fish and chips. I hear their pancakes are great too, but I haven't had them. There's a big box of toys for the kids. read more

If I could give this place a 2.5 I would. The fish and chips were good but not great. The fish taco was served in a large flour tortilla instead of a corn tortilla. The fish in the fish taco was one very large piece of fish and chips. Smaller pieces of fish would have been better- it was an approximation of a fish taco. Nice little spot, but terrible place for breakfast. Fairly expensive for what you get. Service is pretty lacklustre, orders messed up, and usually fairly slow. Hash browns are probably the biggest disappointment, so bland. Also, the French roast is terrible. Incredibly dry, no flavour and wasn't even given any syrup. It said real syrup was an extra charge so I guess that's the only syrup they have. I understand it's a diner, but their best feature should be their breakfast. It's not. I heard their fish is good, so maybe come back at lunch time. read more

Our group of 10 had be cottaging at Ledge's Edge Lodge in East Dalhousie and stumbled upon this Diner on a day trip to Chester. Sign said real good fish and chips and it was wheel chair accessible so we decided to give it a try. The waitress was very accommodating and rearranged some tables so we could all sit together, and even though there were a number of enticing items on the menu, we all ordered the award winning fish and chips and we weren't disappointed. The fist was delicious and melted in your mouth and the home fries were done just right. The men all ordered 2 piece and it was more than some of us could eat. The desserts selections are limited, but are home made and the coconut cream pie was to die for. Great food at a reasonable price. We will certainly be back. read more
