The building isn't much to look at from the outside, but if you're looking for fish & chips worthy of being served in Nova Scotia, this is the place. Outside you have lots of parking, and a deck with picnic tables for when the weather's nice. Inside is classic diner decor. Pictures of vintage Hollywood icons, lots of chrome, a counter with homemade baked goods on display, and friendly staff. The fish is moist with a crispy coating. The fries are hand cut, the tartar sauce is house made. We camp in the area every summer (Grave's Island) and make a point of visiting The Stretch.

Looks very unassuming from the outside but the relatively small interior has a very charming, 50's, retro style complete with chrome and steel. I had fish and chips and it was one of the best I ever had. The portion was more than adequate and the price was reasonable. If I had to say something negative, I would say that the size of the haddock filet filled me up so that I had to pass on a piece of homemade pie that made your mouth water just looking at it. Well done folks. Keep up the good work.

Great service and fabulous homemade desserts as well! You can be sure we're coming back....maybe for breakfast?

Great diner feeling inside. Great fish burgers. Great sweet potatoes and dip. Inexpensive with friendly service. Well worth the stop.

Food is good, fast and service is great. My only con is that the menu needs to be bigger.

This is just a Diner but the fish and chips are the best that I have had in NS. Very light batter and a real treat.

Believe the hype! Don't waste your time with fish & chips anywhere else - this is the only stop in…read morethe Valley if you're looking for the best fish & chips. Right on Main St in canning where parking is limited out front but many nearby lots for free. The space is not accessible sadly, as there are a few spots to get in. Watch out for the suicide door! Not sure what's going on here, but the hinges need to be readjusted because the door flies open when you turn the knob (also not great for accessibility vs. a handle - and requires Superman to close). So be warned! Minor details aside - the menu is small but priced well for the freshest fish and best local ingredients. The food was clean, not greasy and very tasty. This place is great for take out but also for sitting in if it's not packed. It's really small and quaint with only a few tables so if you're coming in tourist season - call ahead or be prepared for take out only! In addition - this is the new home/bottling location for Pay Day cider where you can purchase on tap, in bottles or refill your own. We only had the Dry cider and while it was nice, it was a little on the sweeter and carbonated side. There are multiple flavours to choose from. We've tried all the spots in the Valley and this is many points above the rest! We watched as people came and went for take out the entire hour we were there. It was telling to see many seniors coming in to pick up family-sized meals.

We pride ourselves on fresh, local ingredients, and great house made craft cider made from Valley apples. We have the best Fish & Chips around, alongside other Nova Scotia inspired dishes. So ditch the ordinary and embark on a food and drink adventure that celebrates the best of local flavors.

So wonderful to have such a great restaurant right in Chester, which has some great venues but…read morenothing quite on this end of the fine dining spectrum. The "room", as expected, is sunny and bright, tasteful decorated to reflect a beachy, ocean breeze vibe. The patio is enveloped by a row of umbrellas, making it an intimate space and extending its usability in Nova Scotia's unpredictable weather. Prices are on the higher end for the area but reasonable for fine dining. That of course, assumes the food is worthy of the prices. And here the Sunroom definitely delivers! We started by sharing the flatbread and carpaccio. Both nice servings and delicious. Our table had the halibut, scallops, and lobster pappardelle as mains. My halibut was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked fish with summer vegetables an a small patty of sweet rice. The lobster was also delicious but I think the star of the night was the scallops. Perfectly seared to a golden brown, I watch several orders go by, sadly making me regret my order just a little. And a big thumps up for offering so many gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan options. It's nice to see restaurants thinking about those with restricted diets and in many cases it has no impact on the dish. I finished with the vegan pavlova, which was a tad over cooked but quite nice. Service is very friendly and attentive, but not quite up to the level of knowledge and awareness of experienced 5-star wait staff. The industry is struggling to find people, the venue is new, and Chester isn't exactly urban-central, so I'll cut them some slack here. However, it will come, as will the five star ratings. A must for Chester visitors looking for a fine dining experience.
