The building isn't much to look at from the outside, but if you're looking for fish & chips worthy of being served in Nova Scotia, this is the place. Outside you have lots of parking, and a deck with picnic tables for when the weather's nice. Inside is classic diner decor. Pictures of vintage Hollywood icons, lots of chrome, a counter with homemade baked goods on display, and friendly staff. The fish is moist with a crispy coating. The fries are hand cut, the tartar sauce is house made. We camp in the area every summer (Grave's Island) and make a point of visiting The Stretch.

Looks very unassuming from the outside but the relatively small interior has a very charming, 50's, retro style complete with chrome and steel. I had fish and chips and it was one of the best I ever had. The portion was more than adequate and the price was reasonable. If I had to say something negative, I would say that the size of the haddock filet filled me up so that I had to pass on a piece of homemade pie that made your mouth water just looking at it. Well done folks. Keep up the good work.

Great service and fabulous homemade desserts as well! You can be sure we're coming back....maybe for breakfast?

Great diner feeling inside. Great fish burgers. Great sweet potatoes and dip. Inexpensive with friendly service. Well worth the stop.

Food is good, fast and service is great. My only con is that the menu needs to be bigger.

This is just a Diner but the fish and chips are the best that I have had in NS. Very light batter and a real treat.

If you read their website former dairy farmers turned lobster restaurant cooks on weekends. The location did not have live music on Sunday. You get the funny bib if you want and the lobster meal for $44 with mussels and unlimited salad and rolls or $39 without the mussels but unlimited salad and rolls. The lobster was rather corny in taste, they were not over cooked and pretty nice. The mussels they tasted like the standard grocery store ones- apparently from farmed source. The waiters and waitresses frequently visited to check on us and empty out buckets. The meal also came with two dessert options and self serve coffee/tea. The experience- was nice but pricey and a bit touristy. It was sadden that the unlimited salad bar actually lacked green salad or spinach- which I was sort of craving. They generally had a selection of mayonnaise based salads- look at my photo. But some selection- but I didn't see anything fun like crab salad. The machine auto request for 15% tip, so if you're not a fan of being told what to tip be sure to manually adjust it. Washroom is located in the main floor and the lower floor. Water was self serve- which I thought was odd since the servers were visiting frequently already.

The meal included potato chips and two sweet pickles, which complimented the seafood. The Shack is an outdoor venue only so you order and pick up at windows and take your food to one of several picnic benches on the patio that overlook Peggy's Cove. The lobster roll I ordered in Maine couldn't compare with the offering at Tom's. Tom's is top notch!

For our lunch spot, we chose Tom's Lobster Shack, based upon reviews we had read. Man oh man! What a find! Don't let the 31$ price for one lobster roll stop you from making the leap. If you don't, believe me you will cheat yourself from enjoying one of the most decadent treatments of locally caught fresh lobster ever. Think about the movie "What About Bob" in the scene where Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss) finds himself hosting one of his patients, Bob (Bill Murray) who has invited himself for dinner: The oohs, ahhs, yummy, this is soooo good, Gnom Gnom Gnom, litany uttered by Bob as he devours his food with appreciation and gusto is kind of what escaped my lips as I savored the best lobster roll ever ... even superior to those served in Maine. Score another point for Canada. It was so tasty, I thought I heard a strain of the refrain from "Oh Canada" in the background. The only downside was that it was unseasonably hot and there were not enough shaded tables to accommodate everyone, but Tom doesn't control the weather. This is definitely worth the drive if you find yourself in Halifax (only 1 hour). And there's free parking,

The "room", as expected, is sunny and bright, tasteful decorated to reflect a beachy, ocean breeze vibe. The patio is enveloped by a row of umbrellas, making it an intimate space and extending its usability in Nova Scotia's unpredictable weather. Prices are on the higher end for the area but reasonable for fine dining. That of course, assumes the food is worthy of the prices. And here the Sunroom definitely delivers! We started by sharing the flatbread and carpaccio. Both nice servings and delicious. Our table had the halibut, scallops, and lobster pappardelle as mains. My halibut was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked fish with summer vegetables an a small patty of sweet rice. The lobster was also delicious but I think the star of the night was the scallops. Perfectly seared to a golden brown, I watch several orders go by, sadly making me regret my order just a little. And a big thumps up for offering so many gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan options. It's nice to see restaurants thinking about those with restricted diets and in many cases it has no impact on the dish. I finished with the vegan pavlova, which was a tad over cooked but quite nice. Service is very friendly and attentive, but not quite up to the level of knowledge and awareness of experienced 5-star wait staff. The industry is struggling to find people, the venue is new, and Chester isn't exactly urban-central, so I'll cut them some slack here. However, it will come, as will the five star ratings. A must for Chester visitors looking for a fine dining experience.
