Halifax Distilling - What a great place and a lovely concept. Owners Julie & Arla have created a great place to stop in, sip on great rum & original drinks and catch live jazz. I was there several times during my visit to Halifax. (Disclosure - I partnered with Halifax Distilling as a sponsor for my trip to the Maritimes and I was so excited to visit the spot & see what they are all about!) I had a tasting of their rums and they were all delicious and unique. The Dark rum is great for Stormy Weather (combined with local ginger beer). Oh, and I had my first Ceasar (which is like a bloody mary but with Clamato) they served it with white rum rather than vodka and it was delish! The interior of the place is unique - it has a combination of old world (with the amazing wood bar) and then newer space in the back with modern furnishings. I loved the pics - historic nova scotia photos as well as the history of rum, Prohibition and Julie's family (she is a 4th generation distiller - her great great great grandfather was a distiller in North Carolina!) We took a tour of the facilities and it's very impressive - but let's face it... I like big tanks! Perfect for live music as well. They livestream their bands on Facebook too which is why I knew it would be great when I got there! We also had a party in the back room which is very secluded & great for small parties. The music from the front room can be piped in as well. LOVE Halifax Distilling and what they are doing for Halifax & the community.

Stopped in for a snack. Best seafood chowder I've ever had. Rich and creamy. Plentiful seafood. I hear there use some type of Rum cream sauce. It must be the magic/secret ingredient! Fabulous pastry chef as well. Next came the LOBSTER ROLL!!!!! To die for!!

Samples of the white, gold, spiced and dark? I think? The gold was my personal fave!

What and excellent tour! The guide was upbeat and friendly and knew his stuff. He really made it an all around informative and enjoyable experience. Most importantly the rum was excellent! So smooth and delicious. Can't wait to come back again!

Fantastic live music at night! Good liquor and must try run flight! They have bottles to take home too if you like the taste of their rum.

I walked into the store with my mother and my 14 year old brother, my mother and me are both clearly legally adults with VALID gov issued ID's, and we looked around for about 15 minutes. My brother was informed not to touch anything, which he didn't and I'd like you to view security footage, all he did was tell me the prices of something because the screens turn fast and I don't have my glasses. So, he looked at the TV in the top right corner (not illegal, anyways). He told me the price of something, that is it, yet the ladies at the front waited until we went to pay to deny us purchase. It wouldn't have bothered me had the ladies told us when we entered the store that we were going to be denied for no reason because they expected my 14 year old brother to have legal government ID with him, they let us waste our time and we're almost snickering and a little too happy to deny us after so. Also, it looks like my brothers school bus pass would've been enough legally, but not for the ladies at the front I guess! Laws don't apply to Miss Sara and her buddy at the front, I suppose. Just made me upset that instead of telling us at the beginning that we were not allowed to purchase anything, they let us waste our time for 15 minutes and then acted almost as if they were more than happy to deny us, playing 'little woman syndrome' or something I am not sure but either way the ladies working should've known that a school bus pass was enough to get him through since his mother was there, but I guess in their eyes only a legal government ID is required. It would be nice if you were allowed to make up your own laws, but you're not. :) Teach your employees the laws better because a 14 year old shouldn't be able to out knowledge actual distillery workers.

It is really easy to access, but is hiding behind the Taco Bell so it is easy to drive past it the first time if you do not know what you are looking for. Once you have found it the tasting room is a lot of fun. They have a wide range of rums and vodkas that you can sample as well as their sodas which are premixed drinks with soda water. You can also order a flight of cocktails which the staff makes right there in front of you. The day we visited the staff member was amazing and was very kind and helpful. With your cocktail flight in hand, you can head out outside to enjoy drinking them. The drinks were all very tasty. We tried the Blueberry Mojito the Creamsicle, Espresso Martini and the Paradise. Our two favorites were the Espresso Martini and Paradise. We stopped because we were working on getting stamps for the Cheers Trail, but it would be a great stop for anyone that enjoys small distilleries from the local area.

The hiking portion of the tour does have some spots where good balance is needed as we follow and narrow path but has rocks along it. We scaled 4 foot boulders, scraped thru brush and trees, balanced across wood planks over boggy areas and went thru steep inclines and declines. You need to be in good shape and wear hiking boots. Both Ryan and Dean were so great with our kids who were at times a little, ahem, cranky, and they enthusiastically joked with them and helped cheer them up when they were having melt downs. Ryan even helped our daughter find cool rocks at one of the beaches we explored. My husband is an adventurous guy who is from Halifax and has toured around the province a lot and I have lived here for 10 years and have done some touring myself and they took us to places neither of us had been to before. I never knew Nova Scotia had such diverse and gorgeous spots! While we were driving around, Ryan told us so much about the history of the area and it was absolutely fascinating. He is a deep well of knowledge which definitely enriched our experience. Both Dean and Ryan are kind and funny. We clicked immediately. I loved the adventure we went on today and our kids keep saying they want to do it again. Thanks for such a great day!
