Garrison Brewing Co. really impressed us with its welcoming atmosphere and top-tier beer. We ordered a big flight to try as much as possible and ended up leaving with even more beer to enjoy later. Some standout brews for us were QueerBerry, All Lit Up, Hawaiian Crush, PB&J, Hoppy Boy, and Georgia Peach--so many fun and flavourful options. And it's not just the beer that caught my eye--I loved the merch so much, I left with a cool purple graphic tee that I'll definitely be rocking back home. Also dog-friendly! Irish Red - One of my favorite beers. :) Had a few tasters of the other flavors, all were good, but I have gone back to being a "red" drinker. This is a great space to sit outside and sample a few beers, right outside the cruise terminal. We've been here on our last two visits through Halifax and loved both visits. The beer is cold and delicious, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I'm always looking for a souvenir tee-shirt (typically a Pride tee) and was disappointed not to find one this time. I'm not gonna lie; the beer at this place is nothing to write home about. If you are a true craft beer aficionado (I sort of fancy myself a bit that way), none of the beer on tap will excite you in particular. They have a wide variety though, and you should find something pleasing enough. I feel bad being so harsh about the beer, because otherwise, this was a great find. We were on a cruise and had spent a full day in the Halifax area. But we had a little time before we needed to be back onboard ship. Who would have thought we could spend that time a a local brewery literally steps away from our ship!! After 15 cruises, we've never had quite that experience. (We always seek out breweries, but never found one quite this close). It's a nice, relaxed atmosphere and the service was friendly. They even have a large merchandise selection if you're looking for a souvenir. It's light and airy. It was the perfect downtime moment for us between the go, go, go of our day and the hustle & bustle of being back on the ship. I certainly recommend a visit. read more

This brewery sits on a prominent corner on the harbor front boardwalk. We stopped in for an afternoon of tasting since the weather was unseasonably warm. There is a small store that sells shirt, beer and other souvenirs. The other half of the building sells 5oz tastings or full flights consisting of 5 tastings(5oz) for 10 CND. Since they are not a restaurant they don't sell pints or anything larger than 5 oz. We sampled 2 flights varying from cider to very hoppy. The beers were very good. The place has a great outdoor area and it was definitely busy on this warm day. read more

Went here from a cruise ship port. I'll tell you what, their location cannot be beat. This is an awesome place to kick the time away if you have an hour prior to boarding your ship. The beer selection is substantial, swag nice, and the wifi helps us non-global sim card folks to be able to hop online for just a bit. I bought the largest sampler they had. Holy moly I had no idea they made samples like that. It was like going to Disney and trying a sample of food from every country in the park. At a certain point, you were convinced that you're just having a great time doing whatever. :) Overall, if this were a brewery by me, I'd still be a fan of this place. Came here for the Saturday afternoon Oktoberfest and boy was it busy! We managed to find a seat in front of the live band play testing for later tonight. My friend and I got a beer sampler (10 beers). What I really like about Garrison is their sours, they have so many and I got to try them all! Their beer flights are also inexpensive, which is super awesome if you want to try a bunch of them! Will definitely come again if I find myself in Halifax again!! Garrison has some decent brews and the staff had a cool vibe happening on Canada Day. Everyone was hustling and pumping out the samplers. This place was my second favourite brewery on our trip through the maritimes, second only to Gahan in Charlottetown. Disappointing that there's no food or even tapas here tho. Its still a very busy place considering and well a comfortable patio with good beer is always a great thing on summer day! I wasn't blown away by anything I had there but I'd still return for another flight of five as the staff and value is bang on. I'd rate this at 3 1/2 stars if I could. It was our first time in Halifax (for our honeymoon!) with my craft beer loving hubby so of course we needed to check out a local brewery or two. We enjoyed a really lovely Sunday afternoon on the patio at Garrison. I love that Garrison lets you bring in outside food and enjoy a few brews. We ended up grabbing lobster rolls and salad from the Farmers Market across the road which were a perfect accompaniment to the delicious beers. We chilled on the patio, people watched, and really relaxed. We ended up trying a flight to share between the two of us and enjoyed the beer very much. My fave drink was the Hot Fuzz (?) peach wit which was amazing - believe this one is a seasonal so be sure to try before it's gone! Garrison also has a bottle shop as well as some merch for sale from their brewery and other local artisans. A great way to spend a few hours in Halifax! read more

Exceptional selections of locally brewed beer. Brillant. On top of that, the price is decent & reasonable (a flight of 5 samples for only $10). I had a great time with my colleagues here. There was also a BBQ stand in the patio when we visited Garrison...I am not sure if they have the stand regularly, but these folks definitely know how to grill their BBQ ribs right. I'm not a beer person. But Garrison makes the only beer I've ever had that I've ever enjoyed. Combine the Nut Brown with the Raspberry - trust me, it's delicious. Yuuum. You can get Garrison beer at any NSLC so far as I know, but the brewery location itself has tastings, swag and the option to mix and match for your perfect pack of beer. They also have sodas - root beer is always a favourite, but they've just come out with two new flavours for the summer. I haven't tried them yet but you better believe I'm going to make a point of it! I really love their Sweet Nelson soda, which was/is their Hal-Con partnership soda - it's bright green but is a raspberry ginger ale. It's super tasty! The storefront is quite large - certainly bigger than it looks! They also have patio space if you want to drink outside in the summer. read more

Came during the Heritage Day long weekend and most stores including restaurants were close Haven't been back to Halifax for 10 years and all I remembered was the boardwalk and nice water view in summer time. In winter however, you don't wanna walk much. So happy to find out that Halifax is now the town of craft beer. Visited the Garrison brewery and felt in love with it. Went to grab a drink with my family but unfortunately nobody would serve us. We waited for 20 minutes while others walked in and had their orders taken. When I went in to give them back the menus, there were several staff members lounging around and clearly uninterested in helping customers. After a soggy, wet walk down to the Seaport Market area from our AirBnB, we found respite at Garrison Brewing. We ordered a large wooden plank of samplers (10 for $18) and prepared to wait out the rain in a constructive and fun way. Out of all the samples, my favourite was the Sideways Chardonnay Wit which they weren't selling in cans/bottles anymore. Even a cold Halifax morn' couldn't stop my pilgrimage to one of this city's original craft breweries. I had read the reviews, had heard the rave reviews from friends and Halifax locals and despite some suggesting that their larger than most size made them less craft, I knew I had to pay them a visit. Just a Hops, skip and a jump away from Pier 21 and the Halifax seaport market, Garrison Brewing has a glorious brewery/tasting room and merch store. And although I didn't get much of a chance to sample it myself, their patio looked pretty friendly as well. The best deal of the day (and the one that allows you to cover the most ground) is doing the $10 tasting flight which comes with 5 x 3-4oz sample. You can buy an individual sample for $2 on it's own - but where's the fun in that?! I should have written this review sooner so I could detail each of the beers I tasted but my memory is beginning to go in my older age so all I can remember is I walked in cold, had 5 tasters, loved them all, left toasted.. err.. A little enthusiasm and a U-turn on a Friday afternoon can land you at the Garrison Brewing Company looking for a bottle of brew to sate a craving. Andrew and I hopped into this hop-shop and realized that neither of us had ever ventured in before. The space is great. The brewing tanks are visible through a pane of glass and there is a cozy little space offside where some patrons were sipping samples. You can choose from a variety of Garrison's beers here, as well as paraphernalia, including tees and caps. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and offered us some assistance. Andrew eventually decided on a bottle of their $7 barley wine, titled the "Ol' Fog Burner." He'll be sampling is momentarily, so I'll have to report back on the flavor rating (I'm sure it will be grand). This is a great local brewery with a lovely store on the waterfront.
