Your Father's Moustache was such a fun and memorable stop during our Halifax trip. It's got that…read moreclassic English pub feel--but with a quirky moustache-themed twist that gives it extra charm and personality. They've got a great selection of craft beers and cocktails--I went with the Purple Haze and really enjoyed it. Refreshing, balanced, and not overly sweet. For food, I ordered the Chicken and Waffle Sandwich, and wow--it was incredible. Super flavourful, perfectly cooked, and impressively held together even with the runny (and delicious) egg on top. My wife went with the New Orleans pasta, and we were really impressed by how accommodating the kitchen was with her dietary restrictions. They happily swapped out the chicken and ham for shrimp, and the dish still came out beautifully done. You can tell the chef really loves what they do--it absolutely shows in the quality and care of the food. It's easy to see why this place is a local favourite. Great vibe, great service, and fantastic food and drinks. Highly recommend!

The last thing we got was the chicken hummus bowl which was good and a lot of food. Overall a good spot for late night food. Our waitress was very friendly too.

This will be our last visit and last review for this place. Have been coming here for a few years…read moreand it's going down, down, downhill year over year. The service is usually a major miss here but we opted for the patio on a beautiful sunny day. The server didn't even offer to bring water when she took our order but the drinks arrived fairly quickly, as did the food. The fish and chips is actually an embarrassment to the entire Atlantic region. Soggy, crusty and nearly black from the deep fryer. You will get a tiny piece that looks like it had heart disease before it ended up on your plate. I've never eaten fish where I have a leftover cup of tartar sauce, but this was it. The fries looked old and like someone grabbed them off a plate of leftovers. While this is definitely the best patio in the Valley, it is not worth eating here. Settle for drinks and expect poor service. If you want proper pub food, head over to the Library Pub up the road.

One of…read morethe tips said to get there early, as there is usually a line that forms at the door before they open. They weren't kidding! As soon as we stepped inside, I loved the interior. Basically it's a brew pub located inside of an old church. Very cool! The restaurant itself is quite spacious, as they have two sections to sit inside. They also have an adjacent beer market and outdoor patio seating. For food, they have a menu that is typical of pub fare. I ordered the fish & chips (1 piece of haddock) for $16, as the hostess said it was one of the more popular dishes. I've had my fair share of fish & chips while in Canada, and I'd have to say that this ranks as one of the better ones. The haddock tasted very fresh and it's a nice, thick piece. The batter was on the lighter side, which I appreciated. The tartar sauce was yummy and the fries were legit, but the slaw was more of an Asian slaw as opposed to a coleslaw, and I didn't care for that. Hubby ordered the Porter Bacon & Cheddar Burger and enjoyed it. We both split a cup of their Matriarch's Chowder for $9, and it came with a house made mini pretzel. Both were delish! They have a nice variety of beers, and I chose the 15 oz "Married to the Sea" for $6.96, which is a delicious German Porter. It had strong notes of coffee, which I liked. Hubby got an IPA and said it was strong and bitter, just the way he likes it. Service was fast and friendly. Although it was crowded, they were able to get a lot of people in and out of the restaurant in a timely manner. I'd highly recommend this fun brew pub if you happen to be in Annapolis!

We had a great time the Nook and Cranny. Thanks to the woman at the Fundy Discovery Center for the…read morerecommendation. The meal was lovely. We started with mussels. Excellent! Our main course was crispy cod tails on lemon risotto topped with a terrific sauce of caramelized corn. The sauce was spicy and made the dish. For desert we had a lovely blueberry concoction with the unappealing name of "blueberry grunt"! This wasn't foodie food but super fresh ingredients prepared simply and beautifully. After dinner we moved into the main dining room for a terrific musician playing mostly NS folk music. All in all it was a great evening. Great food, great music, friendly people. If you're in Truro, don't miss the Nook.

We were keeping a close eye on time. At 6:48 we asked about the order and we were told it had only been 20 mins. Not true! At 7:10- still no sign of food - so at 7:13 we decided to get it all to go. We left a 10% tip despite slow service. The other table of four had been served, had eaten, and left by 7:05. I ordered fish and chips. Batter bit thick so uncooked inner dough in few places but fish was delicious. The chips??? I'm just going to post a picture showing total - quantity minus one chip - couldn't eat them! Cole slaw delicious. If you go before a show give them two hours! I honestly think the order was held up. Maybe lots of orders ahead?? but that other table had plenty of time! And they were literally less than 5 minutes at most ahead of us!

I ended up choosing the oysters, nachos and a 1p brown bag fish and chips. While the oyster was plated nicely in a martini glass, the tall brown bag made it hard to take photos so I spent a little extra time having to stage the food to look presentable. Other than that, I would most definitely take advantage of the happy hour specials from 3-6pm.

From…read morethe moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and lively without feeling too loud or crowded. Service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable--especially when it came to the beer. We started with a couple of flights to sample the house brews, and they did not disappoint. Our favourites were the Vic Park, Beacon Blonde, Blueberry Ale, and Honey Wheat--all incredibly well-crafted, fresh, and flavourful. As for the food, it was fantastic. I had the Chorizo and Chicken Penne--perfectly cooked pasta tossed in a rich Cajun cream sauce that really stole the show. The spice level was spot on, and both the chorizo and chicken were tender and packed with flavour. My wife went with the Lobster Mac and Cheese, and it was equally impressive. The lobster was fresh and flaky, and the mac itself was creamy, cheesy, and just the right level of indulgent. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. If you're in Halifax and want great food paired with top-notch local brews, Gahan House should be high on your list.
