Hahahaha. These portraits are on the wall

This place is unique in so many ways. For one, they have portraits on the walls of random dudes and their crazy mustaches. I was laughing my ass off looking at these guys (look at the pictures I posted). I didn't have time to explore the rest of the restaurant has to offer because we had so much to check out in such a short period of time. We started off on the rooftop (which is huge). Full bar and plenty of tables. My cousin got cold so we ended up moving downstairs after eating our appetizer. We got wings for an app and they were crunchy and delicious. I ended up getting the lobster roll with sweet potato fries. Absolutely heavenly. Best lobster roll I've ever had. And the sweet potato fries were perfect. They have some great menu options. Holly was our waitress and she was bubbly, sweet, accommodating, and very personable. I would 110% recommend coming here. Great food, cool atmosphere, chill vibes, all around 5/5 stars.

    Club sandwich

I ordered the club sandwich which was a delicious grilled chicken and bacon between two lightly toasted and buttered slices of bread, and it didn't disappoint! Even better, my wife ordered the lobster roll and my mother in law had the lobster dinner special, both for a reasonable price, and they were both satisfied. The service was also great, and we'd definitely recommend this place.

It had been a few years since I'd eaten at Your Father's Moustache, and maybe it was the time of day, maybe it was the time of year...but I found it to be just okay. We went here for a late lunch/early dinner (around 3:30 pm) and while the service and food were okay, it was nothing to write home about. I found it pricey for what it was. I got the pulled pork sandwich which was delicious, though there was something about it that tasted like turkey? Weird. My husband got the club sandwich which I tried and found pretty bland. They provide heaps of fries which were also just kind of there. I mean, I enjoyed them because they're fries, but they're certainly no Darrel's fries. ;) I much prefer the patio at YFM, rather than the actual inside. It's dark and dated - kind of makes me think of Boston Pizza actually. It also doesn't seem to know if it wants to be a sports bar or not, it was just a strange experience. I much prefer the patio/deck on the roof in the summer - it's wonderful sitting out there! I will have to say that our waitresses were phenomenal. About halfway through the meal the shifts switched off so we had two different waitresses and they were both really great. Prompt, friendly and helpful without bugging us too much.

    Not a good chicken sandwich

Ordered the lobster sandwich but unfortunately the lobster meat was unedible. Very old and like chewing gum. Instead they gave me a chicken bacon sandwich that was also unedible, chicken was like the sole of your shoe and the bacon must have been from yesterday's breakfast. Server was excellent though!!

To start: I kind of want to give the stache a 4.5. Simply because if you place it in the other categories of 5, the food doesn't really compare. We aren't talking top chef quality but that doesn't in no way mean it isn't delicious. The atmosphere, patio, and everything else, bumped this rating back up to a 5. My moustache. Oh how I love thee. The number of plates of nachos that I have put back here is more than likely disgusting. It would probably average out to 2 a week. They are by far my favorite nachos in the city (sorry shoe shop). Writing a review for this place gives me a slight bit of anxiety, simply because I love it so much. Let me count thy ways as to why I love the stache and why you need to go if you haven't already 1) Obvs, the chos are my list. The Coast rates them as the 2nd runner up in the city. When it comes down to it, it is entirely based on preference of what you're looking for in a cho. For me, its tons of tomatoes and jalapenos with sour cream and salsa. The stache delivers that to me every time, and lots of it. Not too pricey and effing delish. Win win. 2) The food in general at the stache isn't what I'd call gourmet. They certainly have a few solid dishes that I do enjoy. The pub club for starters. Winner of the 2011 Best clubhouse sandwich, the pub club has charbroiled chicken breast, mozza, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and onion all on a fab hunk of grilled French bread. Sounds simple, but it is pretty bomb. Other favorites are the almond grape salad, spring rolls, and the chicken dinner. 3) The stache also has one ballin' patio in the summer time. Halifax's patio season is like none other and you are always lucky if you can nab a seat at the stache. With an awesome view of spring garden road and tabletop fire places make for an awesome summer venue. The heat lamps also make it doable into September. 4) I've always had great service at the stache. I find them super fast even when they are busy. The number of times I've eaten there, I have yet to come across a bad egg of a server. 5) This place is massive. It is great if you want to get a bunch of people together and not have to worry about being elbow to elbow. It's a solid place to chill for beers with 20 of your buddies, last minute. 6) They have my most fav breaky in all of the land. Super cheap (6.75$) for the breakfast special which is: 2 egg, 2 bacon, 2 sausages, 2 pieces of toast, lots of fruit, and for a little extra cents you get hash browns. Again, it comes fast and powerful for the emergency hangover incidences. 7) The have my fav buckets of candy at the door for when you leave--not to worry, they don't mind if you take a handful. 8) There are lots of tv's strategically placed around the joint to occupy your boyfriends mind and attention the entire time you eat. 9) The caesars! So far, they are my favorite in the city. Served with a wicked stalk of celery and just the perfect amount of spice. I crave these bad boys day and night. Perfect for breakfast to start the day off just right or for the start to your evening. They go heavy on the vodka, which goes undetected. So proceed with caution (I never do) 10) Just do it.

fire pit on the roof top! love!
    Ashlee F.

I love the rooftop patio. Love it!! I've mostly spent summer days and afternoons up there, but one evening I went with my family we got a table on the rooftop with the fire pit in the middle! How awesome is that? I finally got to experience it! I'm usually one of the creeps sitting on the side lines, looking down at you while you're enjoying the fire in the middle of your table, all cozy and awesome-like. But, not that day! I've never had any issues here, the staff are awesome - they actually interact with you, not just bring you your food and go on with their job; they make the YFM "experience" that much better. I find the menu average; it's not bad, but not extraordinary, just average. They do have an above average brunch menu though! Definitely not a place you'd expect to have a great brunch, but they do! Saturday and Sunday only though! Their drink menu is pretty extensive; lots of options! Must try: The Pub Club (it was actually voted the best in Halifax!) and the Banana Carmel Cheesecake (I don't even care if it comes out of a box, it's BANANA CHEESECAKE!)

Your fathers Mens washroom, you'll never stop laughing
    Haitham G.

For our repeat tourist, this place is considered an iconic landmark to visit every time they are here. For the local community and students, this is our beloved hang-out space every Thursday night after a long week of classes. Your Fathers Moustache is known for its wings. So, If you are feeling to get those fingers dirty and filling your stomach with delicious wings, Thursday-Night is the day to go. Hands down! My favourite sauce is the BBQ one. In my 7 year experience around the food industry here in Halifax, very few restaurants have BBQ sauce that is actually NOT watered down! A soon as i dip my wing in the sauce, not a drop falls and i could taste every single "particle" of BBQ in it! For #SMUdents (Saint Mary's students), going to "Fathers" is the routine/usual/must-go/second-home choice for Thursdays with your crew. Over there they get the chance to link up with other circles of friends and ends up as a SMU 100+ gatherings. (Most of m undegrad SMU memories personally were there!) If your not feeling wings, thats fine! Let me recommend Cheese and bacon burger. If you finish the plate, then i will consider you a trooper!. With a think, juicy patty, 3 strips of bacon and molten cheese that literally seals and covers all that ( and i mean it!), with hot fresh fries and 2 nice pickles, you are defiantly getting you $$ worth at only 12 bucks! Not only the food and the social vibe that the place gives out, the mens washroom is defiantly and experience to talk about to all your friends (not sure about the ladies washroom). With their massive poster they have inside, no-one leaves the washroom without a laugh. Check the picture i posted as a hint ! In a nut shell, Your Fathers Moustache is the iconic social spot @SpringGardenRd

Most inattentive servers we found in Halifax. Our food took 45 minutes to arrive and was ice cold. Very disappointed with this restaurant.

Alright, so I'm officially bad at taking notes on Battery Park. Granted, in the past we've either…read moregone with friends or been pretty busy, but taking four trips to actually get my first set of notes is a bit embarrassing. It's wild to think that Battery Park has been open for nearly a decade, but the years go by quickly! I'd only been there once before we left NS for several years, and once we returned and got a place in Dartmouth, I knew we'd be here frequently. Burgers and beer - what's not to like?! This first documented visit saw me diving into the Ace Burger part of the menu. I've loved Ace's burgers since their start in the kitchen at Gus' Pub, and I'm glad that they survived the ebb and flow of food trends, un like several other gourmet burger joints. I opted for the Dartmouth-Style Jughead, which is a sort of fancied-up version of In-N-Out's cult favourite, the Animal-Style burger, which involves cooking the patty in mustard on the flat top, and topping it with a messy burger sauce. Battery Park's iteration didn't evoke my vague memories of In-N-Out quite the same way that Stillwell's similarly-themed Burger Week offering did, but it was undeniably an excellent burger. Two, smashed patties with wonderfully crisp edges were lovingly topped with gooey slices of cheese, "Dartmouth sauce" and caramelized onions. This wasn't a pure umami bomb though, as classic accoutrements of lettuce, tomato and a pickle helped brighten up and balance out the burger. The fries were also top notch; the skin-on, hand-cut fries were nice and crispy, and addictively salty. My wife stuck with her long-running favourite, the Pig Mac, which unsurprisingly has pork subbing in for beef in another homage to a famous burger. The flavour is spot-on, and much, much better than its namesake, as in addition to the superior ingredients and execution, it doesn't come with that weird McDonald's aftertaste and regret. As we often do to get the best of both worlds, my wife had gotten a salad so that we could share our different sides. Battery Park's Caesar salad stuck close to the classic recipe, but stood out from the forgettable masses of this ubiquitous side thanks to their deeply rich and flavourful, house-made dressing, fried capers and real bacon. On my next time there, summer was now in full swing, and we snagged a table on the back patio. It was my first time out there, and I was impressed by the space. Patios in very urban settings often have limited real estate, but Battery Park's was a very good size, and had a chill vibe, like it was somebody's (large and busy) back deck. I wasn't feeling particularly burger-y with the heat, so I chose the mushroom dumplings and miso salad, while my other half went with the pork belly and pineapple burger. It was a little bit of a wait with a full house inside and out, but a cold beer and great company made it pass quickly. The dumplings were deep fried to a deep brown, but didn't taste at all burnt, with the spectacularly crisp wrapper encasing the rich mix of chopped mushrooms inside. A dipping sauce of perhaps soy and chili sauce brought added layers of flavour, and a little salad of radish and green onions added a splash of colour and freshness. My miso and ginger salad was very good, with plentiful fresh veg, apple and crisp slices of fried tofu that were beautifully encrusted with white and black sesame seeds, although the overall flavour profile wasn't as Asian as I expected. The namesake ingredients of the creamy dressing didn't really stand out, but it was a tasty salad nonetheless. My wife's burger was an impressive sight, with glistening, glazed slices of pork belly and a grilled section of pineapple on top of one of Ace's always-fantastic patties. The combination of sweet and savoury was a winning one, and it made me think of one of the first "gourmet" burgers I ever had, the Ultimate Burger at The Henry House, which also comes with pineapple. As expected, the top-notch fries were good to the last fry, and I should know, as I finished off what my wife didn't have room for! I suppose the idiom that "a lot of ink has been spilled" doesn't apply in this digital age, but fixtures like Battery Park still deserve attention for the great job that they're still doing after all these years.

However, the food simply did not deliver on what I expected from a gastropub, nor did it live up to the positive reviews I'd read beforehand. As a gastropub, one anticipates elevated, thoughtfully crafted dishes that showcase culinary skill and quality ingredients. What I encountered instead were dishes that fell short of those standards. The execution lacked the precision and care you'd expect at this price point, and the flavors didn't justify the gastropub positioning. I came with high expectations based on what others have praised here, but the food experience left me disappointed. While the service and ambiance have merit, they can't compensate for a fundamental letdown on the plate. For a gastropub to succeed, the food needs to be the star--and unfortunately, that's where The Stubborn Goat missed the mark for me.
