Off to a great start as your new neighbourhood hole-in-the-wall pub (plus apples) - what awesome…read moreatmosphere! Stopped in on a whim with a couple of beer drinkers and found something for everyone. Four taps are dedicated to Sourwood Cider's own offerings, and four to guest beers. Sourwood already has a reputation for dry ciders, so don't look here for your semi-dry or sweet ciders. There are small plates on offer with seasonal ingredients, and I look forward to returning to try all of them. For the first visit I went with the Wabamo 2.0, an experimental cider with lots of hops added. A really great cider for beer drinkers who don't think they like cider too much. They also have a variety of cans and bottles of beer and cider, including a number you can take with you as singles or in a four-pack for the road. The decor at Sourwood is full of natural textures, and comfortable, with plenty of seating at the bar as well as along benches and wooden tables. The open garage door for summer brings in tons of fresh air which is just delightful. The location is on a relatively quiet street between the Halifax Commons and Gottingen street, which means there are lots of other things to see, do and taste nearby. I see many visits in my future and look forward to seeing what the variety of cider that comes out of this great new place.

Beyond the space being super cute and aesthetically pleasing, the drinks and atmosphere were great! We had a lovely bar tender who was friendly and went above and beyond helping us set up the space how we wanted it and bringing us waters throughout the night. ALSO drinks were highly affordable especially after and entire night of ordering drinks. This spot would be amazing to stop into for a drink and a bite to eat, but also consider renting the space for your event (birthday, work, reunion, etc.).

I had never been to a cidery bar before, so this was a completely new experience for me. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcomed us right away, telling us to pick any table we liked. I really wanted to try their ciders, but since I hadn't eaten anything yet, I didn't want to risk getting a stomachache, so I skipped them this time. I'll definitely be back to try them on my next visit though! I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, and it was excellent! perfectly seasoned and fried. The coleslaw on top made it the perfect combination. They also had soft music playing in the background, which kept the atmosphere calm and made it easy for our group of eight to comfortably talk across the table. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'm definitely looking forward to coming back for the ciders next time!

The chicken was flavorful, and the buttermilk ranch complimented it so well. I avoided the hot sauce, out of preference, but the sandwich was fantastic nonetheless. It came with a side of fries that was perfectly seasoned. The servers were awesome. Their kindness and patience really gives this visit a cozy and overall great experience.

I asked to bring my…read moredog in and was granted permission by an employee only for the old man to come over to disrespectfully tell me to take the dog out. I told him when I asked I was given permission and he proceeded to add even ruder and more loudly than the first time that he told me to get it out! Let me state, there are no signs saying pets are not permitted and respectfully I did ask in which I was told yes before hand. My friend and I kindly left our baskets on the counter and took our business elsewhere. I left quietly, put the dog in the car and returned to tell him how inappropriately rude he was and that I would be making this review.

Elderkin's is never an intentional stop on my annual apple-picking trip to the valley, but I don't…read moreknow that I've ever made the trek to Wolfville without visiting this farm and U-Pick. It's just minutes away from the downtown and is the perfect stop on your way back for lunch after an hour or two lost in the Noggin's corn maze. The parking lot around the main building is a total gong show, so go slow and keep your eyes peeled for unaware city slickers who are all but guaranteed to step out in front of your bumper with no notice. Still, you can't really blame them-the fresh baked goods (sticky buns! still warm!), gorgeous produce, and general charm of the farmhouse is enough to make anyone lose grip on reality. You can also pick up picking bags at the cash before trekking up into the apple fields. Sections are loosely marked to show off Cortlands, Macs, Red Delicious, Empire, and many more, but you'll see most people hiking aimlessly up the mountain for about thirty minutes on their way to the Honeycrisps. You can mix any of the apples into a single bag since they're all the same cost, except for the much pricier Honeycrisp apples. We were told the following from the lady behind the cash: "If I see so much as one Honeycrisp in your bag, I'm charging you for a full bag of Honeycrisp. I don't even care." Unnecessarily serious, if you ask me. But hey...them's the rules.

Believe the hype! Don't waste your time with fish & chips anywhere else - this is the only stop in…read morethe Valley if you're looking for the best fish & chips. Right on Main St in canning where parking is limited out front but many nearby lots for free. The space is not accessible sadly, as there are a few spots to get in. Watch out for the suicide door! Not sure what's going on here, but the hinges need to be readjusted because the door flies open when you turn the knob (also not great for accessibility vs. a handle - and requires Superman to close). So be warned! Minor details aside - the menu is small but priced well for the freshest fish and best local ingredients. The food was clean, not greasy and very tasty. This place is great for take out but also for sitting in if it's not packed. It's really small and quaint with only a few tables so if you're coming in tourist season - call ahead or be prepared for take out only! In addition - this is the new home/bottling location for Pay Day cider where you can purchase on tap, in bottles or refill your own. We only had the Dry cider and while it was nice, it was a little on the sweeter and carbonated side. There are multiple flavours to choose from. We've tried all the spots in the Valley and this is many points above the rest! We watched as people came and went for take out the entire hour we were there. It was telling to see many seniors coming in to pick up family-sized meals.
