For many of their wines I find the, $2 roughly or more expensive than SAQ. I find SAQ is $2-3 more than the LCBO. So all in all it's one of the highest priced liquor corporations I believe in Canada. I did notice that a few items such as Remy Matin XO was way cheaper than QC or Ontario but overall liquor is priced to the ceiling. If I lived in this province I'd go nuts paying so much for booze! It's a plus that this place is located adjacent to the Atlantic Superstore. Provincial governments need to control the liquor in their provinces because it's such a revenue generator. I predict there will be one province in my lifetime that will legalize marijuana. With sinking budgets look at the incentive to controlling and taxing pot! Take a look at Washington State and Colorado! It will come people.

It seems a bit smaller than the other, but is always beautiful on the inside and stocked with one of the wider selections in Dartmouth (especially compared to the ancient-by-comparison store on the Forest Hills Parkway). The staff is friendly and accommodating, usually with one or two people working the floor specifically to make sure customers find what they're looking for - a welcome change compared to other store policies of "we'll help you, but you have to find us first."

But today things are quite different. Take my experience at the Tacoma Street NSLC - where I was greeted by a Budweiser girl, offering me a nice cold beer that she had just pored - especially for me! How could I refuse - something about a big special promotion for a football game coming up soon;-) Well there is nothing like a Bud girl and free beer to put me in the mood for shopping. And this is a great store to buy the essentials for the SuperBowl. Its large, spacious, well laid out. Today there was a centre display with some good wines on sale - again "in my day" there were no such thing as sales on booze. There was a sales person who pleasantly offered assistance regarding single malt scotch - and other NSLC offerings. There's lots of parking, although it was very busy today with people making their way in and out of the adjoining grocery store. I left with all hands and arms full of supplies that I hope will last beyond the big game. I will also take with me a great feeling about this store, the great service - and the hope that every time I shop there, there will be a Bud girl with a cold beer to great me.

I am not a fan of the way you have to move from the Sobeys to the NSLC once you have done your shopping. If you have more than a couple of bags of groceries from Sobeys then you can't go into the NSLC without ditching your cart, which often means having to leave, stash your groceries in the car (good luck if you don't have one) and then go back to the NSLC. Kind of a hassle I think. On the other hand they have quite a good selection here.....comparable to some of the bigger NSLC stores in the HRM. Be sure to catch their wine events where they feature a particular wine from a particular region. The store associates are friendly, and if a certain item isn't stocked in that particular store in Sackville, they will call around, or use the computer to find other locations that do carry what you want.

Whether or not you're a connoisseur you can use these to determine which ones you might be interested in trying. That's as opposed to picking the bottle with the prettiest design/colour combo. (hey, that's what I fall back on) Good local and imported cold beer options too! The absolute selling point of Bishop's Cellar has to be the hours they keep. A beer/wine store that's open until midnight on Friday's and Saturday's as well as holidays has been a saving grace for me on more than one occasion!

I've never driven, so I got an NS ID card (for voting, passports don't have addresses). It's expired but worked for the recent municipal, provincial and federal elections. I have a valid MSI card with my birthdate and a picture ID on the Costco card I used to place the order. Nothing was acceptable and he wouldn't/couldn't leave the order. I am 71.

It's not a huge store, but they have a nice selection of what I assume are some good wines, mostly higher-end liquors, and a nice little niche that they seem to be carving out in the craft beer market, which is more of my bag. They have a couple racks and coolers of the many great beer offerings from around Nova Scotia, as well as regional ones like Picaroons and Dieu du Ciel. I just want to buy them all and stock my own beer fridge! The kicker though is the great idea that they had to offer growlers of beer for brewers that are located outside of the city and are unable to do so here. When I was there on Super Bowl Sunday they had their own RockHead pale ale (made by Garrison I believe), Butcher's Block Red and Hippie Dippie Pale Ale from Tatamagouche Brewing, and Boxing Rock's Vicar's Cross double IPA. Deposit on the growler bottles is $7, and re-fills seem to range from $10-$15, both plus tax. This is a fantastic addition to the neighbourhood, especially since this is in my go-to grocery store. I'm looking forward to quenching my thirst with RockHead's delicious offerings.
