So be warned! Minor details aside - the menu is small but priced well for the freshest fish and best local ingredients. The food was clean, not greasy and very tasty. This place is great for take out but also for sitting in if it's not packed. It's really small and quaint with only a few tables so if you're coming in tourist season - call ahead or be prepared for take out only! In addition - this is the new home/bottling location for Pay Day cider where you can purchase on tap, in bottles or refill your own. We only had the Dry cider and while it was nice, it was a little on the sweeter and carbonated side. There are multiple flavours to choose from. We've tried all the spots in the Valley and this is many points above the rest! We watched as people came and went for take out the entire hour we were there. Situated on Main Street, it's a very nice bar with a cosy street patio, a shop within and a bar at the back. I've had a number of their ciders before, notably at my favourite pub in Chester, which set me on my exploration of Nova Scotia's excellent ciders. Our guide was great fun and the head brewer, who was busy down below, was very interesting. As well as mainstream, mostly conventional ciders, he loves to experiment with different hops and fruit infusions to produce some wildly different varieties and flavours. Not all will be to all tastes, ranging from pungent and sweet, to subtle and somewhat sour, rich to bone dry, clear to cloudy, but what I can say for certain is that everyone will find something they like. The varieties are mostly single batch, so what you get depends on when you visit. While I mostly like my cider simple and dry, the vast array of flavours is well worth a deep dive. Top spot!

Our stop in the brewhouse got us some samples and paid 4oz tasters of their beer, and I got a 1L growler of their wheat beer for $13, including the bottle deposit. While they don't take returns, they will refill any brand of growler, for a very reasonable price of $6-7. There's also several kinds of lavender-scented beauty and hygiene products for sale, since that's one of their other main crops. The friendly owners suggested we take a stroll down the path to see their pigs, turkeys, and chickens, and it wasn't only my 3 year old niece that enjoyed this. It is definitely off the beaten path but that is part of its charm. It is a family run farm and brewery. I am not sure if you can get a more "local" beer. They grow their own hops (among a few other things) and brew it on site. I am not a beer drinker, but what I tried was nice. My husband really liked the Honey Brown Ale. I was lucky enough to have a taste of their Cider. It was excellent - super flavorful and crisp. I would have taken some with me but it wasn't all ready yet. They also grown their own lavender and have different lavender products. Aside from a great product, it was very interesting to hear the family's story. The farm has been in the family for a long time although the building and brewery is much newer. We ended up staying for quite a long time hanging out with Alan, Brenda and Campbell. Very hospitable and their passion is self-evident. They also offer farm tours and heck you can sign up for a hand-on experience. Highly recommend! It was a unique experience.

Not a huge space, it's the location, process and raw taste that will swallow you and tease your tastebuds! A small selection of small-batch ciders is worth the visit! Fill up your own growler for $15 (or buy one of theirs for an extra $5). Tall boys of their ciders are much more affordable here vs. the liquor store. You'll love when you discover this super secret spot only locals know about. You won't find a sign at the bottom of the road pointing you to go. Use the GPS to get here and go all the way to the top of Crocker. You'll see the simple wooden 'cider' sign at the end of their drive; keep going all the way to the top until you see the shed :)

I really wanted to try their ciders, but since I hadn't eaten anything yet, I didn't want to risk getting a stomachache, so I skipped them this time. I'll definitely be back to try them on my next visit though! I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, and it was excellent! perfectly seasoned and fried. The coleslaw on top made it the perfect combination. They also had soft music playing in the background, which kept the atmosphere calm and made it easy for our group of eight to comfortably talk across the table. Still, you can't really blame them-the fresh baked goods (sticky buns! still warm!), gorgeous produce, and general charm of the farmhouse is enough to make anyone lose grip on reality. You can also pick up picking bags at the cash before trekking up into the apple fields. Sections are loosely marked to show off Cortlands, Macs, Red Delicious, Empire, and many more, but you'll see most people hiking aimlessly up the mountain for about thirty minutes on their way to the Honeycrisps. You can mix any of the apples into a single bag since they're all the same cost, except for the much pricier Honeycrisp apples. We were told the following from the lady behind the cash: "If I see so much as one Honeycrisp in your bag, I'm charging you for a full bag of Honeycrisp. I don't even care." For the first visit I went with the Wabamo 2.0, an experimental cider with lots of hops added. A really great cider for beer drinkers who don't think they like cider too much. They also have a variety of cans and bottles of beer and cider, including a number you can take with you as singles or in a four-pack for the road. The decor at Sourwood is full of natural textures, and comfortable, with plenty of seating at the bar as well as along benches and wooden tables. The open garage door for summer brings in tons of fresh air which is just delightful. The location is on a relatively quiet street between the Halifax Commons and Gottingen street, which means there are lots of other things to see, do and taste nearby. It's right off highway 12 and just a few kilometres outside of the town of New Ross. You can't miss it. They've got a brewpub in Halifax but this is better because you can talk with the alchemist behind the craft on site. The selection is just huge and you can sample whatever you want first before buying. The little retail hut is TINY but it does have three stools for sampling. There is literally something here for everyone. We like dry ciders and there are a lot of options. But there are also in between and even sweeter options. Lots of sweet fruit wine options as well for folks who haven't refined or figured out their palate yet, too. Definitely check this place out if you're heading up or down the highway!
