We recently stayed at the Olde Lantern Inn as part of a weekend 'stay-cation'. We weren't really…read moresure what to expect, never having stayed at a B&B before but were extremely happy with our experience. The inn has 5 different rooms as well as a welcoming common room, several areas to relax outside, and a breakfast area that accommodates both couples and larger groups. While encouraging guests to interact with elements like the outdoor fire pit, we still found we also had plenty of privacy when we wanted it. We stayed upstairs in the Marchel Foch room which consisted of an extremely comfortable four post bed, a fire place and reading area, a window nook with a gorgeous view of the vineyard and a bathroom equipped with a large Jacuzzi tub. The rooms are a perfect mix of cozy charm (beautiful hand crafted furniture, vaulted wood ceilings) and modern convenience (remote controlled air conditioning, tv and dvd player as well as a selection of movies). Breakfast was served a little earlier than we would maybe have preferred (between 730 and 830) but the food itself was fantastic! I really enjoyed meeting some of the other guests and hearing everyone's travel stories (Al, the owner of the Inn had seemingly countless travel experiences and stories to recount. An incredibly interesting man for sure!) We also took advantage of the close proximity to the Grand Pre winery (literally a few steps through the back vineyard) and went on their wine tour and tasting. Our guide (Katherine) was fantastic giving us lots of information and answering all of our questions while keeping it very light and fun. We were happy to learn that she also works at the Inn and would be the one cooking us breakfast in the morning :) I would definitely recommend the Olde Lantern to anyone looking for a relaxing and personal wine getaway in the valley. I can see how this place would be especially fun for several couples travelling together (something I think we will keep in mind for our next visit).

The view is just outstanding and it's best to sit outside on the second level balcony for the full experience. Tasting/flight prices depend on what varieties are chosen (they range from $12-$16) and you will not be disappointed! We went with the 'Mercator Experience' which came with 4 tasters, some cheese and bread, almonds and olives so overall a great deal. And for the wine.. so impressed and shocked that we hadn't come sooner. Probably our new favourites. You'll love the colour of the rosé - almost copper-like - and the mess-with-your-mind white but feels and tastes like a red, Sauvage. Service was excellent, couldn't be happier. The first one was the Tidal Bay and it was light and refreshing. It was a little acidic for my taste, but a very good wine. The next wine we tried was my favorite and that was the Compass rosé. This just had an amazing aroma on the nose and I found it to be very balanced. The third one we tried was the Chardonnay and it was too oaky for my taste, but if you were a fan of California Chardonnay's then this may be the wine for you. Finally, we had the Marquette red and this wine tasted pretty young and there was a lot of fresh fruit on the pallet and it had a jammyness to it. If you are not the biggest fan of red wine, this is an easy transition into a red wine. Overall, it was a great stop and the rose was a standout for sure.

Great views of course, a…read morevery attractive large deck along one side of the winery and a pleasant, bright and airy interior. Some excellent wines, especially the reds (the Quintessence is a good as anything in the province), a unique sparkling mead and a very powerful rummed cider (9.5%), plus several whites and a rose. I had the red flight, wife went for the classic and for eats I chose the beef tip panini, which was truly outstanding. Delightful service, as seems to be the case at all the wineries we've visited. Bought a few bottles to take home and the bill came in at about $150, which isn't bad. Definitely worth the trip up from Halifax.

It looks like this place still needs a little bit of refining but it has some pretty good potential in the next few years. The wine is decent. Their red really is good but their rosé is a little bit more fruity than we like and much darker than expected. Not a huge selection here but a really nice location overlooking the vineyard. I'd personally skip the food as it seems like it's being too fancy for what it is. We got the cheese board and it definitely is trying to be a little more fancy than it is. It comes with 3 cheeses and there are only 3 options so if you don't like blue cheese, let them know when you order so they can give you more of one of the other two. The thing we found odd was the tacky Breton crackers. It would have been nice to have some kind of artisan crackers instead and perhaps some sort of a jam, jelly or spread. We found it to be a little tacky for $16. The service was a little bit in the middle and we waited around a while to even get a menu. Once the server recognized we weren't helped yet, she apologized and picked up from there which made us not want to get up and leave like originally planned. Overall, I think this place is worth a shot but perhaps don't expect to be wowed and maybe grab a meal before you show up. I can see this being a great place to do a flight just to try what they've got or just have a glass of wine on the patio that's being extended (they were working on it while we were there). Lots of parking and just off the road.

We have eaten all over Nova Scotia during our 3 weeks here, but no place measures up to this one…read more We were actually here the year they opened, when they were (as far as I recall) the only winery in NS. At that time, they had only one red and one white wine, and I don't think those wines even had names. I don't recall there being any food service. What a joy to return and find that it has expanded to include a fantastic restaurant offering gourmet meals. The food and wine, Tidal Bay in this case, were superb. We shared an outstanding salad and bread service; my wife had the duck confit, and I enjoyed the best salmon I've had in ages (and I eat a lot of salmon). My wife loved her dish, and we enjoyed the dessert plate of Italian pastry, ice cream, and berries, topped off with a great cup of coffee. Service was first rate, and our server could not have been more attentive. I wish we had eaten here more than once, but we'll be back on our next visit to Wolfville.

Tastefully set among grape vines, this winery is both modern and high end while very pleasantly unassuming and not pompous. The tasting is offered as self guided or with a presenter. Since we had our dog with us we were seated outside on a beautiful deck, with a breeze, shade and amongst luscious greenery. The self presentation and tasting is done in a very stylish way and we only wish other wineries followed suit: We received flights of reds and whites in a beautifully designed wine glass holder (see pics) along with a tasting notes for each wine, and the recommended order to be tasted. We were able to go through them leisurely with no pressure and ended up buying three bottles that we liked the most! Following the tasting we continued with a self guided walk through their vineyards which ended in a spectacular overlook of the Grand Pre area, The whole experience was perfect, from the setting, the service, and the walk. Absolutely a must if you visit the area even for a brief time.
