They have plenty of sour beer options which I happen to be a sucker for, oysters and a refined menu making it easy to choose your dishes without getting decision paralysis. I ended up choosing the oysters, nachos and a 1p brown bag fish and chips. While the oyster was plated nicely in a martini glass, the tall brown bag made it hard to take photos so I spent a little extra time having to stage the food to look presentable. Gahan House in Halifax was an instant hit for my wife and me--an easy 5/5 across the board. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and lively without feeling too loud or crowded. Service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable--especially when it came to the beer. We started with a couple of flights to sample the house brews, and they did not disappoint. Our favourites were the Vic Park, Beacon Blonde, Blueberry Ale, and Honey Wheat--all incredibly well-crafted, fresh, and flavourful. As for the food, it was fantastic. I had the Chorizo and Chicken Penne--perfectly cooked pasta tossed in a rich Cajun cream sauce that really stole the show. The spice level was spot on, and both the chorizo and chicken were tender and packed with flavour. My wife went with the Lobster Mac and Cheese, and it was equally impressive. The lobster was fresh and flaky, and the mac itself was creamy, cheesy, and just the right level of indulgent. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Our dinner at The Gahan House was an easy choice, directly across the street from our hotel, it was certainly accessible on a snowy night. Our server was outstanding. She offered suggestions on the menu, and was also covering bar area. While she was busy, she was just attentive enough. We ordered drinks first. The blueberry-lavender margarita was a delightful surprise, flavorful without being too sweet. The espresso martini was nice as well. A very good start. The salad course was delivered at the same time as the dinner, so I could have done without it. But it was crisp and nicely dressed (I don't like them to be too heavily dressed or where the lettuce gets too wilty!) The dinner dishes were awesome. We don't eat pork, so asked if they could prepare the Chicken Chorizo Pasta without Choirzo, and it was so good! It had just enough heat with the spice. The beef was deliciously tender and very flavorful. I loved the gravy, very tasty. Restaurant was warm and welcoming and we really enjoyed the evening. I stopped in for a hot meal on a snowy day, and it was exactly what I wanted. It has a warm, cozy feel with a big bar in the middle and you can see the brewing process. The walls are completely windows so you can see to the street outside. We got the calamari with the hope that it would be great with the location being so close to the sea, and it was! It was super crispy and had great flavor. I wanted comfort food so I got the chicken curry, it was served with fries which was interesting. I wasn't sure what to expect getting curry at a pub-style restaurant, but it was great. My husband got the chicken tenders, which were also perfectly cooked and seasoned, and had a simple but great presentation. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us recommendations of things to see while we're in the area. The menu is small, but from what I had, they do those items pretty well. I took off a star because when we came back again a few days later, our waitress this time was super inattentive. My water was empty for a while, and when I was finally able to ask for another one, she forgot to bring it and realized it when she brought the check. read more

This place is awesome! Great to hang out with friends. A good mix of Beers and food. We had the Originals and the Podium flights. My personal favorites were the sir John Honey wheat and the Iron Bridge brown ale. Pei Mussels from the appetizers was straight from heaven! We also tried the Pan fried Haddock from the entrees, a healthy choice! Works best if you want something less jazzy on the plate. The service is prompt and friendly too! My husband and I decided to stop by Gahan's for a quick drink...but it turned into a few and a bite! Beers aren't my forte, especially during an overcast day. I opted for the Night at Gahan Irish coffee- it is superb! The blend was perfect, not overly alcoholic. It was perfectly semi-sweet. The whip cream was super thick but surprisingly not too sweet. So delicious...I had a second serving! According to my husband, the beer was good. I believe it was the Raspberry? We both got a bite to eat. I got the tuna tartare and it was just the perfect amount to share...or eat by myself. The plantain chips were nicely fried to a good crunch. My husband got the poutine. I'm not a fan of soggy fries, but I did tried the fries that weren't drenched. It was good. I had a bit of the gravy, it was good- not too salty. Overall, Gahan's was a great find. All in all good experience here for our first time. We started off with The Podium beer flight, good variety of flavour. Our appetizer arrived not too long after, we enjoyed the Brewers Board which is a delicious (!!!) charcuterie board. We devoured it, it was perfect. Just wish we had a few more slices of toasty bread for it! Our main dish didn't take long at all to come either, I had the chicken tacos and my boyfriend had the burrito bowl. I really enjoyed my tacos, they were filling enough that I had trouble finishing it. It comes with 3 loaded tacos and the sauce was splendid. My boyfriend really enjoyed the burrito bowl as well. Not long in operation, this is Gahan's new base of operations in Halifax, having moved up from the waterfront. It takes up the corner lot of the new Convention Centre on Sackville Street and is surprisingly roomy inside, though the space is a little undistinguished. While the bar is a classic of its type, I'm not sure how many more high ceilinged, minimalist boxes the city needs. A wide variety of seating is offered, around the large central bar, tables large and small and some alcoves up on the windowed Sackville St side. It also features a large brewing area, though this is not yet (as of mid-August 2019) in use. The menu is the standard type of pub fare, but on the occasion of our visit, it was brunch we were interested in. This menu is shorter than some, but offers a fair variety, including steak and eggs, a fry up and fancy eggs with chorizo. The mimosa, somewhat unusually, is with grapefruit juice, but we were able to swap out for the traditional orange. My wife went for the fancy eggs, I chose the brunch burger with seasoned fries and pretty much a everything was consumed with gusto. No complaints on the quality, presentation or quantity. A big plus, of course, is the presence of Gahan House craft beers. They offer their regular options and a seasonal list, so if you're a fan, you could work your way through the lot over a few visits. Service was provided by a delightful young lady who did everything possible to make sure our visit was enjoyable, and one that will be repeated in the not too distant future. read more

Wavered between a 2 and 3 for this one but the drinks were good! Our experience started off not so great when we showed up for our reservation and were seated in a section that wasn't assigned to a server. After more than 10 minutes, I was ready to find the host when they finally sent someone over. We got our food quickly which may not have been for the best. Half of my broccoli wasn't cooked and most of the new potatoes were cold in the middle. Our server was incredibly nice though! She did offer to fix it or get me another side. She also apologized several times for the off night they were having. Our visit ended when, 20 minutes after we finished our food and drink, I had to flag down our server so we could get our check. All in all not a horrible experience but definitely not one I'm eager to repeat. They did seem to be having an off night so hopefully this was a rare experience but I'm afraid I won't be testing that theory. read more

Very disappointed with some of the food as well since we were expecting awesome lobster rolls. They were awful. Literally had to stab my vegetables to cut them..vegetables are basically meant to be cooked with these dishes BUT they are raw not grilled! The salmon didnt have much flavor or any sauce. When customers cannot cut their vegetable with the cutlery provided, pls listen when they tell you they are raw! as in the reviews here. I have spoken to others with the same complaints. There were others at the table that weren't really happy with their food as well. If the beer is good, perhaps try a pub like menu, and not mid to upper with some items bec it doesn't appear to be working (or change your cook). An awesome brewery/restaurant. I had some amazing fried calimari here that really blew me away. They make a bunch of beers in house (pretty good) and also have local beers on tap. They also have flight options if you're trying to taste a bunch of beers. My fish and chips were exceptional, and I got about a pound of fries with it.
