My fairly new Windows computer died a couple of weeks ago and I needed to have it evaluated. Through a local Mac shop, I was referred to Dave Mason, who came highly recommended. From the first phone call, it was obvious Dave was willing to help, even if it meant he could fix my computer without ever seeing it (and therefore, not charging me)! After trying a number of different recommendations, including that I call Hewlett Packard before bringing it to Dave, we concluded that it was likely the MotherBoard, and not worth paying for a repair (plus tough to find parts even though it was only 2 1/2 years old)! So we dropped off the computer at Dave's home, where he has his shop, and after taking my computer apart and confirming a repair was not worthwhile, he stripped the data for me to an external hard drive. 2 days later, the data was saved and Dave offered the option of returning the computer to me, or recycling it at no charge (I chose the latter.) His fee was extremely modest, and he continued to offer a couple of suggestions if I preferred to ship the computer to a company in NY that might be able to repair it, etc. Point is that he went the extra mile to be helpful! I highly recommend Dave, and will add that in the middle of the pandemic, he was sure to protect his clients for drop-off and pickup of the computer! read more

I had a bigger mess than I realized when I contacted Dave for help installing my newest computer and moving everything possible from the old one to the new. I knew I would have to reinstall a lot of software - but I didn't expect to be unable to find license keys/registration numbers/etc. We had arranged for a follow-up call the next afternoon. By then, I was ready to tear my hair out, but Dave remained calm, used his dry humor to make me laugh (which is always relaxing). I was *sure* the information was stored in one or two directories, but nope. One program was only able to be registered by adding a key to the registry. Fortunately I had exported that key long ago, but I think it only dawned on me what I was looking at because Dave had kept me from going off the deep end. Also, it had taken me 4 hours to install my printer when I first bought it. Dave installed it on this computer in almost no time flat. He came highly recommended by another of his clients, and I couldn't be happier with his help. I feel confident that if I run into more issues, I'll be able to call him and get the help I need. Dave has been cleaning up my computer problems for over ten years. I've always found him to be knowledgeable, reliable and eager to help. Some of my problems have been operator error and Dave never makes me feel silly. With the more serious problems, his natural curiosity drives him to do exhaustive research to get to the root cause. Recently I had a problem with Outlook--all my emails for the past year simply disappeared. I reached out to Dave and to Microsoft simultaneously. Microsoft gave me forms to fill out, excuses, insisted that it was my fault and then started the same steps all over again. It was the worst runaround I've ever had on a time-sensitive issue with no resolution. Dave, however, loved the challenge and dug in with his usual expertise. End result was that Dave retrieved all of the emails and Microsoft just closed their ticket. I teach a citizenship class and rely on a DVD as a teaching tool to help my students learn what they need to know to pass their citizenship test and became a citizen. My personal DVD broke that I was using to show videos to my class. With funding being cut back drastically, the program could not afford to replace my DVD or provide a laptop. I put out a request for a laptop on NextDoor and Dave the Computer Man responded. He found a laptop for me and took the time to make sure it was in good operating condition. Now I can not only show the students citizenship videos, but I can provide information needed via the internet. Thank you Dave. I really appreciate all your efforts. I've known Dave for years as a friend and never had the need to use his services till recently. I have an 11year old desktop that had slowed down considerably and wanted to transfer the data and programs to a newer laptop.
