Five stars for the manicure, two stars for customer service. I received a gift card, went in with an appointment was promptly seen and had an outstanding experience with May. However when I went to go pay for the manicure, I was informed that the price was $57??? Gel manicures are $45 which is the price I was quoted on the phone, however the nail polish I had selected was a $10 up charge which I was not informed about before the manicure. When I told the receptionist that this was really a poor business practice, she said well I just usually don't tell customers until after, I explained to her that this was a bad idea because that's poor customer communication; now my manicure is $10 more than I was expecting it to be. I told her I too had worked in the service industry and that it's common practice to let people know when things are more expensive than what they're expecting so that it doesn't result in negative surprise at the end of the experience. She told me she would take that into consideration but never once apologized. read more

I've been going here for 3 years and they are consistently good, from mani/pedis to waxing to massages. They sanitize all the utensils and everything comes in a sterile pouch like at the dentist, and the pedicures are done in sinks built into the floor, so you don't get the backwash like in those nasty vibrating chairs in other places. For example, they really should provide paper towels to place under the drying stations so your "clean" manicures aren't exposed to the germs or dirt. Meh. Overpriced and hit or miss on quality. I've gone here four times; two were pretty solid, the last two have been horrible. This visit I went for a gel mani and regular pedi. Pedi was fine, though incredibly slow. The mani was also incredibly slow and she couldn't get the polish to work. First it was the base, then the brush was the issue, then the color. I offered to pick a different color but was told no. Ultimately I was made to pay full price for a manicure that took twice as long as it should have and looks like crap. Not a fan. Went here as a last resort. I needed a pedicure badly on a friday early evening before a Saturday wedding. My regular place is closer to work and I was already home and didn't have time to travel due to soonish dinner plans. So I decided to try a place in the area. I went to 2 places first but I had to wait and like I said before I did not have time to wait. I tried to avoid Dashing Diva because of the iffy reviews but unfortunately had no other options. The place is clean and for that they get one star, but the pedicure was HARDLY worth the $35 that I paid for it. The woman that did my nails was not that pleasant and was not very gentle when clipping my cuticles. There were a lot of sharp pokes. I figured if I was paying so much for a pedicure I'd at least get a nice massage but I was sadly mistaken. (And no back-massaging pedicure chairs! Only uncomfortable benches). After 3 coats of a light color nail polish (Essie's "ballet slippers") you can still see through to some white marks on my nails, but I've never had that issue before. Finally, after making my way to the dryers, my manicurist asked me to pay by rudely stating "pay now" then she disappeared. Also, no complimentary 2 minute back rub like most other salons. I've only come for pedicures so far. The pedicure ladies are really nice, thorough, and a good balance between having some small talk but letting you relax in peace. The place itself looks like a lot of the other locations in this franchise. It's a little grungier than one I've been to on the UWS but I wouldn't say it's dirty. They offer you something to drink and have a great selection of good polishes. The pricing is also what I'd expect for the area. Heads up: They take cash tip only. Also they leave on time so if you come in at 730 they will only do one service (like pedi only not a mani/pedi) since they close at 8. I had a specific request for a design and she did it exactly right. The staff is highly aware of the Covid-19 regulations and I constantly saw them sanitizing everything and everywhere. I've been going to the salon for over 10 years. It is one of the best, cleanest, friendliest, nail salons in the neighborhood. I went to the same aesthetician for over 7 years and when she retired from the manicure business, she made sure to put me in very good hands. No pun intended. Sonia took over and has been doing an amazing job. From the filing to the polishing, I always leave with my nails looking beautiful and perfect. The salon is always clean, meticulous and sanitized. They were that way before Covid was a thing. They carry all the top nail polish brands and have great gel brands as well. I love Dashing Diva on Smith Street and highly recommend it. Background: I am currently at dashing diva, letting my toe polish dry as I write this review. Great place! I've been to this location twice and the Montague location maybe three times because it's closer for me. This location is MUCH better. This location gets a 4 1/2 star rating while the other would be a 3. The layout is much less cluttered than the other , more brightly lit and just "feels" better. This location also has friendlier people who work here. The polish selections are roughly the same. The cleanliness is about the same. I've been here on weekend days after brunch and during lunch hours since I work nearby. I'm always serviced immediately after picking my polish. I've never had a bad polish job. The aroma therapy oils smell great and add to the relaxing environment. The prices are high-ish. You can definitely find a cheaper nail place but you get what you pay for! Today I had Sandra. She wasn't my favorite tech. Seemed to rush through things with the scrub and foot massage. Luckily, I too, need to move on to other things (like work) or else I might've asked her to scrub a little longer. But overall, she wasn't that bad and it appears from where I'm sitting she did a great job on my pedicure polish job. I would recommend Dashing Diva on Smith to anyone in the area. read more

Half of the afternoon patrons are tiny pregnant women with matching pink blackberries. 3. There is a refrigerator with booze by the coat closet. I have never been offered booze. 4. Manicure specials only count Sunday through Wednesday. Peak manicure days will set you back seven dollars more. From $45 to $52. Seeing it in writing really makes me feel cheap. 5. The front desk lady is the only native english speaker in the place. And she hates you. She does not want to help you. Nor will she offer you booze. read more

Dashing Diva is always on the itinerary during my visits to Brooklyn in the warmer months. My friend lives in Cobble Hill and she uses my visits as an excuse to pamper herself. While Dashing Diva isn't the cheapest place you can go, the pricing is certainly competitive and won't break the bank. I recall the basic mani-pedi being around $45. The service is impeccable and the manicurists are meticulous about cleanliness. We usually walk-in or walk-in to make a same-day appointment for a few hours later (and grab brunch in the 'hood). Dashing Diva has a vast selection of colors and if you like it enough, you can buy it. They sell their own line of nail color and other nail-related products like files, nail art and treatments. They have the best selection of magazines so be sure to round up a few issues before your pedicure commences. I'm not by any means a germophobe but I've heard too many horror stories about fungi and infections, etc. to not be aware of a nail salon's hygiene standards. It gives me that extra peace of mind when the manicurist presents a sterile device package (just like you see at the dentist!) and peels the film back to reveal manicure tools that have been sanitized by an autoclave. They also use a brand new disposable file and buffer block for each client (huge plus!). Other salons should take note. The decor is white and pink - total girly-girl indulgence. I love the "benches" in the back for the pedicures. You can sit next to your friends and share magazines. They also have a nail drying station that fits 6 people. The manicurist always comes back to add the flash dry drops and then flash dry spray. I have never had a bad experience in the half dozen times I've been here. Dashing Diva has been a small NYC chain with multiple locations in Manhattan. It looks like they've spread beyond Brooklyn to Cali, Japan, Kuwait, Singapore, the Phillipines and Australia. It's a testament to Dashing Diva's commitment to quality service that they're expanding nationally and internationally. read more

I love how sanitary Dashing Divas is!! I can't even begin to explain how excited I was to see an autoclave!!! This is the first nail salon in which I have actually seen one and it makes me feel immensely more comfortable knowing that they are trimming my cuticles with a sterile instrument. I also appreciate that the technician washes her hands before beginning and they do not reuse nail files etc. They have an extensive selection of nail polish colors and did a great job with my manicure. Overall, a great experience! I have no problem spending more money for my manicure knowing that they take the extra steps necessary in order to ensure cleanliness. read more

Let me start off by saying that when I walked into this specific location, i had an awful experience at a completely different salon getting gels 5 days prior. My nails were filed down so thin, they were breaking and actually in pain. The salon I went to before Dashing Diva told me to put CRAZY GLUE on whatever nails broke. WHAT?! That's a health hazard! I had 2 broken nails, they were ALL bending, and they just looked awful. They took my in and honest to God, performed a miracle on my nails. It took 2 hours, but they mended my broken nails, made sure every single nail was to my liking and clipped away the cuticles SO meticulously, unlike the place I went to prior. I had Beth, she was SO incredibly patient and thorough, I couldn't believe the attention to detail she had with my nails. Two things that wildly impressed me during my time with Beth at her station: 1. She actually educated me on gels, and nails in general. Which was actually really nice because it's comforting to know exactly what you're paying for. 2. She put SUNSCREEN on my hands before I put my hands under the LED's. That was so incredibly thoughtful to me, I think I actually let out a huge sigh of relief when she took the sunscreen out. THEY CARE! This particular location, I swear, has the best techs. I used to go to a different Dashing Diva location, had a bad tech and went elsewhere. Clearly, I regret it. But it's nice to know that there's an amazing place to get my nails done. I first saw this salon on "Run's House", where Run's two daughters Vanessa and Angela (with their mom) were getting a pedi. I thought it was the cutest little thing ever- and it was in BK! My first time there was somewhat nice. I had a divaroma pedi and my technician was great- not as friendly though as I would have liked- but, I guess my feet were in bad shape- who could blame her! Afterwords, my toes, feet, and legs looked and felt rejuved! It was a treat for my B-DAY, along with some friends getting their nails done too. Would I go back- yeah!! It's cool enough to go on a regular basis- if you got the doe- or maybe once a month- it is definitely a really cute and fun place to go with your girlfriends (or those boys who can't get enough of pink and like to get their nails done too!) ****RECEPTIONIST/TECHNICIAN**** I still remember her name, but I won't go there. All I have to say is, PRETENTIOUSNESS (is that a word?) anyway, it's not in. I like a little exclusivity as the next chick, but snooty-ness, being short on the phone- come on, it doesn't work here in BROOKLYN. They're located on Smith St.- give me a break! ANNDDDDDD, if I'm not mistaking, Brooklyn is like the Nail Salon capital of New York City- Churches and Nail Salons- that we have plenty of. If I never went to another DD again......umm, I think I'll be just fine. They are not the only clean and relaxing salon around- and they have lower prices with the same results. The host here could be friendlier. It was busy and she told me to wait - no apologies or how long but just wait. It's an average size place but designed rather 90's and outdated. I've walked by several times and told the prices was reasonable. They are clean and the girl who gave me the manicure was nice but you can tell she was tire. She offered me water and apologized for the wait but the manicure lasted only 2 days. Personally, I prefer something more serene. Dashing Diva had horrible lighting. Overpriced pedicure. $38 for a basic pedicure. I have never had a pedicure massage so light. I knew in advance they didn't have massage chairs but the distance from the bench to the water and to the foot rest was pretty uncomfortable. I will say she took her time trimming my toes and cuticles and even noticed a problem spot without me pointing it out. The salon is spotless and has a calm atmosphere, the upholstery on the pedicure bench is very worn. I will not be getting a pedicure here again as there are many other reasonably priced nail places in the area. Also the Dashing Diva Lounge in Greenpoint does a basic pedicure for $30. read more

I have been coming here since August 2007 and always had a wonderful experience. I have brought my husband and Mom at different times, who were treated very well indeed. All the girls are competent, but I prefer to see Lhamo, who knows how I like my wax, mani and pedi by now! It's not the cheapest, but I like the atmosphere. Not everyone speaks English - but I'm not there for the conversation! Free teas and water, lots of current magazines, free cosmopolitans on Thursday and Friday evenings, laid back music, a decent toilet .... it's great. Without fail my pedicures last 3 weeks without a chip, that's why I still go there! Mani's last a week, maximum. I usually have the hot pink or scarlet on my toes and natural pink on my hands, both from the white capped range that are formaldehyde free, as I am pregnant. BTW, snippy reviewer, yes, I'm PREGNANT and I have a (black) Blackberry (which I don't use in store)- wasn't aware this is a problem for the general populace until now. Thanks for the heads up. Downside is only the occasional loud mouth that insists on using their mobile for an hour, or shout to their mates across the salon.... would prefer a no cell phone policy! I am SO happy Iris Nails has come to the neighborhood, because Dashing Diva leaves everything to be desired. Until now, it was the only option, so I got stuck there sometimes. First thing first - the mani/pedis are not meticulously done. Whatever technician I get, I leave with uneven, weirdly shaped nails and icky cuticles. Two, the polish does not last. I noticed they added Essie/OPI colors to their stash. Before it was only the house brand. Does not help - it always chips within a day, and I don't have this issue anywhere else. Three, the hostesses up front have miserable attitudes. On the plus side, the take debit cards and . . . that's it. I look forward to patronizing their across the street competition in the near future. read more

My roommate and I decided we needed manis (she for a legitimate business related reason, me because I *had* to have blue fingernails, dammit). We got basic manis and they seemed pretty good. The hand massage part was a bit quicker than I'm used to, but the aromatherapy was nice. I liked how clean everything was, how friendly people were, and how even though it was clearly a chain I wasn't being hustled in and out the door in record time. In addition to my terrific manicure (we'll see how long the polish lasts--I hope for 5 days but I am really terrible to my nails) I got my brows waxed. They have more shape then they do when I go to fancier salons. So that's something else in DD's favor. I don't love chains as a rule, but as chains go, this place was alright. read more
