My experience here was terrible, in my opinion. I brought my parents and one of my daughters. I'll admit they were more forgiving than I am here. We arrived around noon on a Friday. All tables were full. There is nothing that is worse in service than making people not feel welcome when you walk into an establishment. I don't need much. A hello, an acknowledgement, a welcome, sorry we'll be with you shortly....None of that. We stood awkwardly at the front of the restaurant half inside the doorway behind another family. The other family nor our family were not acknowledge for about 15 minutes. I tried to make eye contact and kind of nod at some of the wait staff and people behind the counter to make sure they understood we would like a table, but they flat-out ignored us. As if we didn't exist and they didn't want us there. It was kind of sad, really. The other family that was waiting eventually left after a while of realizing we may not be seated and we were not welcome. After about those 15 minutes, three tables of people finished at the same time. The waitress came over and said we could sit in a booth wherever. Yes, kind of like that. Sit wherever. It was clear they didn't want us there. We were inconveniencing them. Getting our waters and ordering our food was fairly straightforward, but the same vibes: not friendly nor welcoming. We waited longer at the table than I would've expected for waters and ordering, considering we'd now spent 30 min in the building and had hardly been acknowledged, but she did take our order. It was after 11am, so no breakfast options. Hmm, okay I get it I guess. That's fairly common for a diner. My only option as a vegetarian is a grilled cheese and french fries (pictured, after eating half the sandwich, about 12 french fries were included). It tasted good, but it was tiny. It was a kids'-sized portion. I was unsure of how a grown man was supposed to call this a meal. It was cheap enough, but I would've paid a couple more bucks for a larger portion, maybe a full side of french fries? All else was fine. The mood/vibe never changed. We weren't checked on, until we waved her over for more water and our bill. We paid our bill at the counter. I don't think I have high expectations. I just want them to...be okay with us being there? Provide service? (I always leave a tip, but I'm not sure what I was tipping for...) It's no excuse, but maybe they thought we were out of towners? I've lived here for 15 years, but it was definitely giving "you're not our people" type of vibes. read more

If you live outside of I-270, this diner will feel cozy and like home. If you live inside of 270, you'll feel transported into small town America cerca decades ago. Both feelings are delightful. Service was great and their famous Bacon Jam Burger was a star. The jam was not overrated on the least; it definitely adds a special sauce to the burger (and fries). We heard good things so we decided to try it out on our way through. We noticed soup beans and cornbread on the board and gave it a try. The cornbread was good, but what we had wasn't soup beans. It was a brown, watery, flavorless tea with maybe a tablespoon of beans in the bottom. No amount of salt in that soup could save it. We left hungry and unsatisfied. Two stars because the waitress was nice, but the food was fully deserving of one star. read more

Our server was very nice and our food was good. There was l lady busing tables with a dirty shirt that kept talking about her knee injury, people hitting her and smoking marajuana all day that was not pleasant at all. After hearing this story the third time during our visit we hurriedly ate our food and left. Was not the ambiance we were looking for. Based on that I would not come back. read more

Decided to check out the Dashing Diner in Johnstown for breakfast this morning. Ordered the Biscuits and Gravy, two eggs and home fried potatoes. The biscuits were nice and fresh. The gravy was a medium thick gravy, seasoned perfectly with plenty of crumbled sausage in it. The eggs were a perfect over medium. They have 3 types of potatoes. I chose the home fries, cooked perfectly. My waitress and cook was Ellie, she checked on me for refills periodically. This is decorated to be an OLD Fashioned Diner. Can't do anything but love it. Take a little time and check them out, pretty relaxing for sure. read more

Pre-pandemic, my wife and I had lunch out every Wednesday with an emphasis on non-chain, locally owned restaurants, diners and pubs. After a 2 year hiatus due to the pandemic, we've resumed our Wednesday ritual of dining out at a locally owned establishment. We last visited the Dashing Diner Uptown in 2020 (just before the start of the pandemic) and this week we visited them again. This is a classic old diner with great food and service. Being a burger freak, I tried their All-American burger when I was here in 2020 and this time I tried their Bacon Jam Burger. Their menu claims that the baconn jam burger is famous and is their best seller. Well, time to give it a try. Even after enjoying the burger, I'm still not 100% sure what "bacon jam" is or how it's made but it was really good. The menu says the burger is "dripping with bacon jam" and that's a true statement. The burger came with a very ample portion of really good fries. I'd come back for the burger but I still want to try their Jalpeno burger and patty melt before having the same burger twice. The wife order a chef's salad which was exceptional. It was loaded with several kinds of greens, deli meat, tomatos, etc, You have a variety of dressings to choose from and she ordered hers with the blue cheese. When I was here in 2020, I was amazed at how fast the food was served once you placed your order. In 2023 - the food is still served incredibly fast. The waitress was excellent; service was great and the food exceptional. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try the jalpeno burger. read more

Dashing Diner is everything you want if you're feeling a diner experience. It's small, it's retro, and the service and food are great. Their pancakes are out of this world! We live 30 minutes away, but plan to return to make our way through the rest of the menu. Parking is either on-street or in a public lot across the street. If it's a particularly busy day, you might have to park a ways down the street and walk. Also, if you have more than 4-6 people in your group, this may not be the place for you, because it is very small inside. If neither of those things are a problem for you, I highly recommend checking them out! read more

We went to the Dashing Diner for a quick lunch. The place is very small, very old and cluttered with stuff on the walls. It definitely could use a good cleaning. Our waiter was very friendly and took our order promptly. We had an unobstructed view of the 2 cooks behind the bar. Neither person wore gloves when preparing the food. We watched them handling raw bacon and eggs and then without washing their hands, open packages of buns, pull them out and start making sandwiches. Cross-contamination is a real thing people!! Our food arrived very hot but the hamburger was tasteless. The 5 very small frozen onion rings were also tasteless. I utilized 6 napkins to soak up the copious amount of grease dripping off of my burger. If you're hungry in Johnstown, steer clear of this diner! It's definitely a "one and done" place to eat! Best pancakes in the world! Love the Tex-Mex omelette. Their biscuits and their home fries are excellent, too. Actually, everything is super yummy. I almost hate to tell other people about this Jewel because we want to keep it to ourselves LOL. Limited seating but usually can get a table in late morning without a wait. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I have been to a lot of breakfast joints, but this place is the bomb. For lunch, their burgers and everything else that I've had has been great, but I just don't come for lunch much because their breakfast is too good. I got the breakfast burrito and my husband got the biscuits and gravy. I loved mine, and would order the same thing again, he thought the gravy was a little too peppery. The orange juice was good the coffee was average. The chocolate milk is the kind they make with Nesquik powder.Very cute atmosphere and great customer service. My most recent visit was just okay. The French toast didn't "wow" me as much as it did the first time I had it. It only had a scant amount of cinnamon sugar on it this time around and the bread was pretty thin. The thing that bothers me most about this restaurant is the decor. I love the retro feel and colors. Unfortunately, this place is going downhill. Food first, cold, entire meal with exception of the sausage patty. The toast was cold with no butter. (Specifically ordered butter) Ordered three over easy eggs and received cold scrambled eggs. (Still tasted good, but disappointed). French toast was cold, but tasted good. Now to service, poor to say the least. In the recent past there were young girls waiting tables who were delightful, happy and did a great job. Now they are gone and owner waits the tables. Service appears to be good if you are family, or friends. But if you are not, good luck. At first I chalked it up to an isolated incident, but unfortunately the last four times here, it was the same. Ambiance, the restaurant is a small town diner feel, just what I like. But the friendliness has left (unless you are family or friends). Found this place on Yelp while in the area. The place was super busy, but in a good way. Our waitress was fantastic and quick. We had omelettes, French toast and pancakes, which were bigger than the plate. Everyone enjoyed their food. Prices were surprisingly low. A very tasty, local diner with a fun and friendly atmosphere. The food came out very quickly, fresh and hot. The staff are all extremely friendly and natural. Prices are awesome and parking easy to find. It's on a small strip with "small town" shops. Wife and I loved it! The inside is a warm and full of quirky decorations that transport you to a different time. The place is small, but I would call it quaint. We were a bit confused about if you seat yourself or not at first, but we figured it out. The service was good. The entire place is set up like a typical diner, with a bar, open booths, and tables. A great quaint little place. Unassuming but very good and filling food. Don't assume by the menu how much you will get. Some, like the Crunchy Cinnamon Pancakes are great and the pancake is 1/2 inch thick and also fills the entire plate. Can feed two easily. The omelettes are also very large! On the other hand, the Carmel French Toast is fantastic but expensive for only 2 slices of bread. I had to order another side and also eat some of my wife's pancake. Every cup you get is locally donated so you might get a monster that holds a ton of coffee or a small dinky cup, like I got, that I had to hunt for refills all the time. We were told to grab our own table and we waited about twenty minutes before just leaving without ever being served. A coworker and I stopped in expecting cozy diner food. I ordered a grilled cheese and fries and she ordered a bowl of chili with a side of fries. There was an upcharge to get fries instead of potato chips. The grilled cheese was average but the fries were lacking. They appeared to be frozen fries that had been thrown in a deep fryer and were white rather than golden brown. My portion of fries was also severely lacking (about the size of a McDonald's small fry). We expected home cut fries from a place that bills itself as a diner. My coworker said that her chili was bland and unseasoned and her bowl was only around half full. I had also hoped a place that is a diner would offer some type of milkshake or malt, but was disappointed that nothing like that was offered. The menus were also dirty and needed a good wipe down. I've been there twice and both times I didn't have to wait yet there were a lot of people there. The first time I went I ordered a pancake. It was as big as a hub cap. I'm posting a picture. They are very friendly and the atmosphere is a lot of fun. They have the cutest things on their walls such as toys from the 1950s. The food is very good and the price is a more than fair.
