Great BBQ. Two people told me this was the best Q in Atlanta, and who am I to doubt them. It's the only one I've been to here and I thought the brisket and pulled pork were fantastic. Texas style I read somewhere. Hella delicious style is what I would call it! Collard greens too, which had an interesting slight vinegar/pickle flavor. It's a five star joint in my eyes. But I will say that the mac and cheese was just very good, and not off the chart like the rest of my meal. If that was a point off, they got the point back for having a good selection of beer! Lots of seating inside and out. A nice place to go on evenings and weekends because they have games outside and a great hangout vibe. Kudos to the staff for the great service. And an extra thanks to the really cool brother who was in line in front of me. It was a true act of hospitality the way he shared about his favorites on the menu. The curb appeal and decor are definitely attractive - a mix of modern with a rustic cabin vibe. While urged to order more, we opted to share the 3 Meat Combination Plate with Pork, Brisket & Ribs - with Mac & Cheese & Brisket Chili for sides (see picture). I found all of the meats as well as the BBQ sauces above average. I'm a bit of a brisket 'snob' as I make it at home and prefer it wrapped tight and very juicy. This had a great smoke rink and flavor...but the juiciness wasn't quite at the top. The Macaroni & Cheese was excellent - not only creamy and flavorful, but also a great smoke taste. While it was a little on the pricey side for just one person ($30), there was enough food to serve both of us - so I rated the Value above average. I'm not going to enjoy writing this review, but you have to give an honest opinion and my thoughts are pretty average. You can tell whoever bought this place, sunk a ton of money into it. I've never seen so much smoking equipment. They have 5 industrial size smokers right in front of the restaurant. The space is huge and there was hardly anyone there on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. We came here for bocce courts, while the outside is nice, it's next to a busy road and close enough to the interstate where you hear the constant humming of cars. It kind of ruins the outside esthetic. I ordered the wings and brisket, with cream corn and baked beans. I would go back just for the corn, the cheese and pepper flavor if so good, it taste like shaved elotes. The wings were alright but pretty dry. I understand bbq is usually made the morning of, and served to order. But I've had smoked wings a lot and these were sitting out for a while. My favorite smoked wings are the local. The brisket was okay, a good bark a mediocre cut, and not very juicy. The baked beans were a bit saucy and okay. What I will say is there bbq sauce choices were awful. Not enough choices, and too much vinegar. It is my personal preference but I hate vinegar forward bbq sauce. The drinks are very good, and they have jack and coke for only 5 bucks! Even though the margs come out of a tap, they are pretty good. The service was generally pretty nice. Again I hate writing a meh review but my experience was that. I hold a high standard for bbq and the only one in Atlanta I stand by is heirloom. Bottom line I won't be back, unless some friends want to go. I don't like the interstate and big money atmosphere. This is only my second time having DAS BBQ and this was pleasant experience, but this time was a takeout order. We had my in laws over for dinner and decided to get BBQ. We opted for the family pulled pork dinner that feeds 3-4 people, with a large side of baked beans, potato salad and buns. We also ordered one lb of chopped chicken just in case we needed more food. We were underwhelmed when we opened the package but we ended up having leftovers. Their pulled pork was tender but lacked that smoky flavor I want with BBQ. The baked beans was on the sweeter side, but enjoyed the pineapple bits added. Potato salad was nice with crunch from celery/green pepper, I couldn't really tell but wish it had some onion pieces. My fave though was the sliced chicken - it was so tender and flavorful. The drink with the best bang for your buck would be the Rita, as the others are smaller, and could use a little bit more alcohol. Grab a barbecue rack and try the various sauces before you put any on your meat! I loved the GA Peach. There is a unisex restroom but also they have gendered restrooms. I've been going to Das probably weekly since they opened since it's around the corner and have loved it. How and ever....my last 3 visits have not been so well. - Out of stock items - How is a bbq place out of ribs AND brisket at 2 pm. - Customer Service Slipping bad - Rude and untrained staff are the frequent. Today I watched a young lady give my order to someone else. The man opens the box, looks thru it, and then informs her it's not his order. She returned it to the Togo station and I waited another 10 mins until I had to ask for my order. They then proceeded to give me the order that the other customer touched. After I told the cashier about it, the (I'm assuming) manager came back and kind of dismissively asked "so what's the problem" I explained and she said well sorry but this is all the ribs we have left (it's 5pm) So I had to take and she offered nothing to fix it. That's not just some germaphobe thing, that's a health code violation. Anyway. Das you are a gem of a restaurant. Don't lose your flare. Step it up please. I would love to revise this. My husband and I stopped by for a quick lunch today. Unfortunately, the experience started off poorly. Upon arrival, no one greeted us even though two employees were standing right by the entrance, engaged in conversation. It was my first time here, so I wasn't sure where to place an order. I had to walk over to the bar to ask, and even then, the bartender didn't acknowledge us until I directly asked where to order. Mad respect to Das BBQ!! As a Texan I'm always suspect of "Texas-style" BBQ joints out of state, but this place is legit. Ben, the GM, slid me a sample of the brisket and this would crush in Texas. I know, I've judged a professional BBQ cook-off or two. The bark is perfect. Even thickness, great flavor and consistency. The sauce is on point. Not too sweet, complex, and gives depth. I'd prefer more black pepper but I like my sauce spicier than most - this sauce hits exactly where it needs to. The service is excellent. It's just warm and friendly - they make you feel like a regular. Kayla poured us beers and was an absolute joy to engage with. It's painfully obvious that Ben takes deep pride in the service and food, and it's awesome to see. This place feels like a small-town Texas BBQ joint - warmth, character, and quality. The only "knock" I can thing of is the wood selection, and that's not even a knock. They use hickory instead of oak or mesquite, and it works. The smoke is a light flavor, but it does a great job accentuating the flavor of the brisket. I tasted notes of brisket I hadn't noticed before. The patrons have to compete with the visitors to the Oakland Cemetery for spaces. There is a parking lot (kind of) behind the restaurant, but it's full. I went for the 2 combo platter with pulled pork and brisket (they were out of ribs for the next 30 minutes, because a giant party had come in an hour before me). I loved the Brisket and Pork, Brisket had an excellent bark and the sauces they have are great. The beans to me were the star, a little sweet but deeply smokey. The Das Corn was my least favorite item, as it felt a little jumbled, with the cheese, Jalapeno, and sweetness all not melding. I want to go back to try the ribs. I got the 2 meat meal-ribs and smoked chicken with the Mac and Cheese and Greens. I'll post a picture when I go back because I devoured everything, except the greens. The ribs and chicken were flavorful, the Mac and cheese had the perfect balance. The greens on the other hand definitely need a reboot. They seemed dry and undercooked and had too many stems, and probably could have been cooked longer as they were too firm. The flavor was bitter, and the hint of spice did not save it. The banana pudding had its own spin, but could have used more of the crust or something, the custard seemed somewhat bland, but overall it wasn't awful, just room for improvement. Came to DAS BBQ on a Wednesday night for trivia that Dirth South Trivia hosts. There's a free parking lot close by which is really nice so no need to stress about parking and big plus for it being free. There looks to be a bocce league on Wednesdays too here and the outside definitely had a large group. The patio and exterior here is really nice with tetherball, well lit patio, and plentiful seating. The food ordering and alcoholic beverage ordering inside was separate. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, 2 jarritos, mac and cheese, and a spicy sausage and paid $50 after tip. It was a pretty penny for really a meh meal. Service was welcoming and relatively quick. Both of the sandwiches come with chips or your choice of slaw or beans. We both opted for the chips since they had Zapp's Voodoo (my favorite). I enjoyed the brisket and felt like it was fair, but just steep here compared to bbq I've had elsewhere. Mac and cheese was okay, but again nothing stellar and I wouldn't get it again. The spicy sausage was not spicy at all and it had cheese in it - not a bad thing, but unexpected as it had no mention of cheese on the menu. We ordered a brownie towards the end of the night for only $3 for how big it was but it tasted more like really dry cake. Big skip. Drink prices here are really good for Atlanta (Jack & Coke for $5? This is Das BBQ's second location and has been open now for about 5 months, as it opened doors in April of 2021. It is located in Grant Park directly on Memorial Drive next to the Oakland Cemetery. This location is a tad different from the original on Collier road as they seemed to focus more on the layout, seating and overall feel of the space versus a healthy combination of food and ambiance. What I mean by that is this location is more of a quick/counter service bbq joint that features a fantastic space to enjoy your meal in. The exterior of this location features a phenomenal outdoor space that consists of covered and uncovered patios which also converts into a great space for events (ie Yelp Events!) and then the inside has a small and cute full service bar with a good sized, but narrow dining room that features a combination of tables and high tops. The outside is truly where it is at here! As mentioned above, this location has all the food pre-made and pre-packaged waiting for you at the counter. Whether you are eating on site or taking to go, you go to the counter to order and they supply to you immediately. This includes everything from the meats, wings, sandwiches, sides and desserts. Since they prepare what they feel they may need, in the event it does not sell day of, you can get it discounted the day after. Speaking of food, Das is well known for the obvious, but more specifically their brisket and a few sides. I have enjoyed the brisket at the Collier Road location, but here I went with the brisket sandwich as I was expecting the same meaty, juicy, sturdy and moist meat I have tasted before. Well, I was sadly mistaken, as the sandwich was dry, even drowning it in the supplied sauce did not do enough to bring the meat back to life. For our sides we got macaroni and cheese along with brunswick stew. Both were fine, nothing spectacular. The mac n cheese has the signature baked crust on top, but given the preparation and placement into the to-go containers, it lost a little bit of the texture that makes that part so good! The Brunswick stew was a solid stew, I actually took a good part of my sandwich and added the meat to get the best of both worlds. Parking here can be tough as they do not have dedicated parking. You will have to choose from the street parking surrounding the restaurant and area or parking at Oakland Cemetery, both of which are free. Overall, Das is becoming a well known institution here in Atlanta. This location is definitely a cool spot that I could see myself coming back to. Das BBQ has brought their delicious barbecue from the Upper Westside closer to Downtown Atlanta with this new location in Grant Park, right next to historic Oakland Cemetery. They've encroached upon the territory of longtime downtown Atlanta favorite, Daddy D'z BBQ Joynt (https://bit.ly/3lzuhah)! I hope the two coexist and succeed. This is the second location of Das BBQ. The first location opened December 30, 2016. I first tried Das BBQ in 2018. In 2019, I gave the original location 5 stars on Yelp: https://bit.ly/3fSTpp5. Their barbecue and sides are good. This second location of Das BBQ opened on April 13, 2021. It replaced The Harp: https://bit.ly/3fSTpp5. The restaurant doesn't have dedicated parking. However, there should be plenty of free street parking nearby, particularly behind the restaurant on MLK. According to the restaurant, you're also allowed to park in the Oakland Cemetery public gravel lot. You enter that lot from MLK near Oakland Ave, directly in front of the main entrance to the cemetery. There was ample parking during my Wednesday dinner visit around 6:30-7:00pm. This new location is nice and big. According to Yvonne Zusel of the AJC (https://bit.ly/3ioPpxV), this location has seating for about 111 inside, about 80 outside-covered, and 30 outside-uncovered. During my visit, they had cornhole set up and ready for play on their nicely-paved lot. They also had a variety of smokers on display: a five-door Franklin smoker out front, a trio inside named Cledus, Smokey, and Bandit, as well as two Southern Pride smokers. If I recall correctly from one of my visits to the Collier Road location, the Southern Pride smokers are used for chicken and turkey while the others are used for brisket, pork, and ribs. According to my hometown friends, the Barbecue Bros (https://bit.ly/3Chq3tT), Das BBQ uses a combination of hickory and pecan wood. The restaurant had a bunch of chopped wood stored outside next to the catering van, "Das Van." Inside, they've got a small, five-seat bar with beers on tap. They have a projector which they use to display televised sports, etc, and an indoor-outdoor speaker system with great sound quality. I like the variety of seating options. It's just a cool spot all around. Das means "the" in German. As I wrote in my review for the original Das BBQ location, the name "Das" is a nod to the German and Czech settlers who first brought smoked meats to Texas. The food menu is simple with meats served in whole, half, and sandwich portions; sides in regular (5 oz), pint, and quart portions; and desserts. Examples of prices when I visited included a whole pound of sliced brisket for $30, 5 "Smokin' Legs" (chicken wings) for $8, and a whole rack of ribs for $44. The prices of what I ordered below should also give you an idea. Pints of sides ran $7-12 each and quarts ran $10-23 each. Desserts - banana pudding and brownies - were sold in singles only, $5 and $3, respectively. Here's what I ordered: Meats * Brisket, sliced, 1/2 lb ($15) * Pork, pulled, 1/2 lb ($9) * Sausage, one hot and one mild (BOGO, $2.50, see below) Sides and Dessert * Das Cream Corn, regular 5 oz ($5) * Collard greens, regular 5 oz ($4) * Mac & cheese, regular 5 oz ($5) * Coleslaw, regular 5 oz ($3) * Banana pudding, regular 5 oz ($5) I ordered my food to-go. All of the meats and sides appeared to already be portioned and packaged individually for immediate serving. Cashier Kierra and her coworker were very nice. However, when I got home, I realized they forgot to pack the pulled pork that I had ordered and paid for. I understand mistakes happen. I called Das BBQ and the only options were to listen to recorded messages and/or leave a voice mail. I left a voice mail. I received a receipt via email (Clover). When I hit reply, the reply address was to Das BBQ owner Stephen Franklin. I shot him a quick note and he got back to me immediately. The next day, Joy took care of me by initiating a refund and offering pork on the house the next time I visit. Now that's great customer service. As for the food itself, it was consistent with the Collier Road location. I recommend the brisket, sausage - both hot and mild, pretty much all the sides listed above except for maybe the coleslaw. Definitely get the banana pudding. Das still serves up some of the tastiest, smokiest, and moistest sliced beef brisket in Atlanta, in my opinion. Their sausages are juicy, plump, and packed with flavor. As noted on the menu, the sausages come from Elgin, Texas, so they're not made in-house. There was a "Buy One, Get One Free" fridge of "old" sandwiches and sausages that they weren't able to sell in previous days.
